I boughts the blue jersey yesterday, the winner of the "refuse to bend" category in the jersey character championship. It'll be gladly donned in the morn for me reflecting the unity, spirit, will and grit shown by the team in the two day battle with Mayo. A borderline piseog. Thrilled also that medium is a comfortable fit My two originals are a bit more spacious reflecting headier times of success and excess. Travel well all and visualize Fionn with that monster goblet by 5 tomorrow.

It is nearly upon us, that was the slowest week at work in a long time! I think that I'm more excited by this game than 09 or 11 because I seriously couldn't see us being there come the business end of the championship. It certainly has been an adventure this year, from the frayed tensions in Ennis to a relaxing day out in Pairc Uí Chaoimh, from a common canter against Galway to a heroic struggle against mighty Mayo. Now the final fence awaits, clear this and we are champions. It's all a bit surreal, even at this stage!
The usual routines must be followed on All Ireland Sunday. The Dublin express will collect me at the curragh racecourse roundabout and straight for the usual watering hole in Dulbin, meet friends and family again and a few sociables before the game.
We can do it, it's not going to be easy that's for certain. if we don't concede a goal we can win it. We have to avoid being isolated under the high ball like we were, at times, against Galway and Mayo. Our free count in our own half has to be in low single figures. That is going to take serious concentration and balls of steel. I think tomorrow may be a day for the likes of Donncha Walsh and Stephen o Brien to shine. If they can ghost in behind the Donegal defence we might get the couple of goals needed to win this game. We have a very strong bench and that, hopefully, will have a huge bearing in the outcome. Sam come South West my friend, there's a great welcome in store!
Safe journey to all fellow travellers tomorrow and thoughts also with the so many thousands of Kerry people abroad. Three of my own siblings will be tuning in from Canada and Europe and roaring on the Kingdom as much as anyone else inside the stadium. We will stand proud tomorrow, whatever the result. Ciarraí abú come on the Kimgdom!

Best of luck to our senior and to our minor team, management and everybody else involved. Safe travel to all making the long trek tomorrow and pleasant viewing to all that will have to sit this one out. I'm sure Kerry will make it a good game and I hope Sam will come back to the kingdom on Monday when the team are coming back. It's been another wonderful year and it's not over yet.

In the past, most times, I would be apprehensive at the start of the week but as the big day drew closer I became more confident, so that by Sunday morning I was convinced, usually, that Kerry would win. It is now Saturday but, sadly, I am still at the apprehension phase.
I am fearful about out full back line's inability to cope with the high ball, I am fearful of our propensity for giving away sloppy goals, I am fearful of not having a reliable long range free kicker on board unlike Donegal, who in Michael Murphy, seem to have all free kick eventualities covered.
I suppose it is a factor of old age but, in this instance, I tend to see more negatives than positives. Still. Still, I have complete faith in Eamon and I have faith in this gutsy team to bend with reluctance. They came from five down and seven down against Mayo. Who knows. I don't. What I do know is that I enjoy All-Ireland finals less and less. The nerves jangle more and more each year. God help the poor players.
Donegalman, you are an honourable member of this forum. I sincerely hope you enjoy tomorrow, but not as much as me.

Safe travels tomorrow, folks. And may the best team(s) win. For God's sake take it easy travelling tomorrow - have just heard some very bad news involving a young supporter from Killarney who had an accident last night in Dublin. Really puts things in perspective RIP

Best of luck to Kerry minors in their quest for All-Ireland glory in what will be their 12th Tom Markham Cup & best of luck to the Kerry seniors in their quest for their 37th Sam Maguire Cannister.
Since the All-Ireland Minor Championship began in 1929, the Kerry minors & Kerry seniors have appeared 14 times together in the finals. The years are 1931, 1932 (both won), 1938 (both lost), 1946 (both won), 1954 (both lost), 1962 (both won), 1965 (both lost), 1970 (seniors won, minors drew & lost replay by 1 point), 1975 (both won), 1979 (seniors won, minors lost by 1 point), 1980 (both won), 1982 (both lost), 2004 (seniors won, minors lost), 2006 (seniors won, minors lost after replay).
Apart from this Sunday, Sept 21st 2014, the only other year that the minor and senior championship finals were contested by the same two counties was 1979. That year Kerry bate Dublin seniors by 3-13 to 1-8 and Dublin bate our minors by 0-10 to 1-6.
Fast forward and in 2014. Kerry will win the senior by 0-15 to 1-10 & the minors will draw on a scoreline of 2-11 each. The minors will then go on to bate Donegal in the replay on a scoreline of Kerry 3-15; Donegal 1-14. Perhaps, the inconceivable of inconceivables may even happen & both minor & senior end up as draws.
By the way, there have been a spate of draws in minor finals in recent years, so a draw result is certainly not inconceivable here. See below for recent minor final draw and replay results.
2008 Tyrone 0-14; 1-20 Mayo 0-14; 1-15 2006 Roscommon (0-15); 1-10 Kerry (0-15); 0-09 2003 Laois (1-11); 2-10 Dublin (1-11); 1-09 2001 Tyrone (0-15); 2-11 Dublin (1-12); 0-06
One sad little fact: the Kerry minors have won an All-Ireland every decade since the inception of the championship in 1929, except the 2000’s. The years the minors won are 1931, 1932, 1933, 1946, 1950, 1962, 1963, 1975, 1980, 1988, 1994
Will ye kick the ball over the bar, will ye, an' don't be givin' me a heart attack, an' doull ticker not great in the first going down. Come on so lads, that's better now. Ye hov um now. Tear into um. Jaysus, ye hov um now. Yahooooooooooooooooooooooo! Ye hov um...we hov um...

I am so terribly sorry to have heard such ill tidings regarding this young supporter. My post will continue with some observations concerning tomorrow's affairs which will unfurl regardless, unfortunately or not depending upon one's point of view. Having a Kerry jersey trusted to your possession is a great honour, as it is in any county to be invited to represent your county. I feel that the "in transition" phrase somehow undermines the current occupant of a county jersey as if they are somehow purloining the jersey. This phrase in fact prevents those that use it in a defensive way from admitting that in fact the team is not very good. Kerry at all times have a team; good, bad or indifferent. Using "in transition" is nothing other than laziness. Eamon Fitzmaurice has put together a resilient bunch who have acquitted themselves well. I will readily admit that I did not expect them to be in action tomorrow but the team have proven me and I suspect most people wrong. Will they prevail? They will if certain things happen. Michael Murphy is the star Donegal attraction who will require careful marshalling and Donnacha Walsh is perhaps the man to do that. He is indefatigueable, extremely strong, courageous and able to dictate play on his own. The other man to nullify is Karl Lacey but I think Johnny Buckley is not the man to do that but a fit Stephen O'Brien certainly would be if the named team starts which I doubt. We are lacking height at the back but as they say size isn't everything. Donegal may try the aerial route for a while but Murphy will not be in the house for the whole game and McFadden has been hot and cold this year. Dublin were naïve to say the least and Kerry in the two semi-finals proved that they have the mongrel in them to win a dogfight. This is a new dimension to our play but it cannot be seen as a negative attribute. Having the ability, best exemplified by Peter Crowley, to look after business has been missing for a while. Allying fine skills with steel is a recipe for success and I think we possess this. The minors will be the first to hoist our colours tomorrow and there are a couple from my own small parish so good luck to them and the seniors. Go m-béadh an t-ádh len fóirne don Riocht amárach!!

Good luck to both our teams from the forum and a special hello to our exiles, we're all together today in spirit and hopefully we'll have ye back asap. I was there myself and I know the feeling and how it tests you, if we weren't so good at football 'twouldn't be half as bad. Still it is good on TV and that's where I'll be as I a have a dose and can't afford to prolong it.
Good luck to our players and we wish you good fortune in reaping just reward, we will always be so proud of you in the sacrifices you make and how you represent us.

Ready for the road now. Just note that the car travelling southwards with green and gold flags is NOT supporting Donegal.
I'm letting my heart rule my head and hoping for a win but no matter what these boys should know how immensely proud we are of them. The support in Limerick was mighty and we might need likewise today. Donegal supporters are not shy and just as the lads will leave nothing on the pitch we should not be precious with our vocal cords.
Come on the Kingdom!!!

The day has finally arrived - it's dry TG and we can stroll the streets and meet and greet old friends - commiserate in jest (serious jest) with the Donegal fans and plan the day towards drifting closer to Jones road and being inside Croker around 1 to see how the minors look - then zoom the rest of the day will accelerate to warp speed and let's pray and invoke all the kindred spirits that we will still be there watching the presentation with grins on our faces shortly after five. Seconds Out......

Terrible news about the young man from Killarney, may he Rest In Peace.
Confident that the seniors will meet the challenge head-on today. It may not be a scientific observation but I've been heartened by the sight of James O'Donoghue's eyes lighting up in his post-Mayo win victory interview saying that the replay was worth two months of training, by David Moran saying they would have been willing to take on Mayo 'three, four, five times' if that's what it took to win, and by Barry John Keane's emotional reaction after that Mayo win. They say the Donegal players will leave everything on the pitch but this means a hell of a lot to our boys too.
Best of luck to Jack, Eamonn and to everyone involved with both panels.
Hammer the hammer...Up the Kingdom!

Was at Mass this morning and a group of Kerry supporters were beside us. After Mass was over the little girl (aged approx. 7 or 8) asked for some money. We were told that she wanted to light a candle for Gooch. And that she always does this when she visits a church. Lets hope her thoughts and prayers will be answered.

Best of luck to both teams today and everyone travelling. Had myself convince all week of a Kerry win but woke this morning with my gut saying draw, no idea why either... A bad showing at Listowel races means my gut probably can't be trusted. Never been so conflicted over a game
