They wanted Pat Flanagan but he opted to join the Cork staff instead.

Does this mean he will have to give up his GDA position. I didn't think a GDA employed by Kerry County Board could also hold a management position?

Lads I must say Im puzzled as to why ye haven't even given Legion as much as a prayer. They knocked out a good (5-in-a-row hunting) Crokes team albeit they were without Gooch. Legion have some classy players such as Donoghue, Lyne and Conor Keane and some decent club players to complement them also. I wouldn't write them off at all. I wouldn't have them as clear cut favourites but at the same time I think they are in with a great shout of winning it out. Legion with 5 Kerry panelists are 8/1 ... worth a punt . Although I'm gonna say South Kerry will win this one out

I think it might be you cant be employed by the county board and manage the same county at intercounty - not 100% sure on this but I think he should be ok to do both.

Paul Kennelly was excellent, Enright and Culhane superb as were the Ballyduff lads.

Its only a shock to people outside of North Kerry. Everyone in North Kerry knew this performance was there. I had them backed at 9/2 so happy days. Credit to Liam Weir and Mike Holly for getting ghis group together.

Credit to Liam Weir and Mike Holly for getting ghis group together. Fair play on the bet- but don't give me that triumphalist baloney. This is a big shock if you analysed the teams on clubs they pick from, historical performance and actual players SK were favourites, strong favourites at that, with just about everyone and this is one of the biggest championship surprises that I can remember in recent years.

Dramatic late finish here in Austin Stack Park. Dingle got a goal from the last play to win 2-9 to 2-8. Killarney Legion shell shocked. Dingle march on.

Your obviously not from North Kerry - South Kerry ver average on paper with the exception of Sheahan and Young and proved that on the field.

From what I heard on the radio it was Barra O' Suilleabhain,Mattiu Ó' Flatharta & The 3 Geaney's that stood out for Dingle while it was James O'Donoghue, Conor Keane, Jonathon Lyne & David O'Sullivan for Legion.

Much more energetic side. JOD caused damage when he got the ball but didn't get it often enough. Looked like they had it won in injury time when 2 points up but gave away possession and lads didn't bother chasing back, leading to a scrambled goal at the death. Foul ridden, tetchy game meant too many stoppages to be enjoyable.

Shannon Rangers 3-11 South Kerry 1-9 HT 2-6 1-5
There was nothing fluky about this result. Shannon Rangers, unfancied even by their mothers, were decisive and impressive winners, easily the best of the four teams on view today.
Needless to say the two goals the winners got in the first half were hugely important, not merely from their intrinsic value but also because it raised their self belief while, conversely, undermining the confidence of the boys from the deep south. Both goals resulted from the inability of the SK backs to deal with a the high ball, with their full back line being a shambles all day. The first one resulted from Mikey Boyle getting his fist to a high one and the second occurred when a high one broke to Paul Kennelly who finished with a aplomb. It was appropriate that these two lads were the finishers. Mikey Boyle has been making a nuisance of himself since he came out of nappies. He is as strong as an ox and as crafty as a fox, shielding the ball John Egan like. Paul Kennelly was the best forward on the pitch, finishing with a tally approaching 1-8(0-5f)
Ironically SK played their best football after those two solar plexus blows.Bryan Sheehan, for the only time in the game, became prominent. He scored about five frees and he ran onto a ball which should have been cleared, flicked it up to hand on the run, made a burst, passed on to the in rushing Ian Galvin who smacked it home. Ian should have had another shortly afterwards when Killian put him through but Darragh O'Shea was out like flash to smother.
Shannon Rangers dominated the second half. The third goal came when Mikey Boyle came out to gather low , laid it off to Paul Costello who slotted home. Good night Irene.
Shane Enrigth was dominant at full back against a variety of foes. His Tarbert colleagues , Ambrose Lanigan and Danny Wrenn, were enthusiastic supporters. David Culhane was inconspicuous in the first half at midfield but impressed at wing back in the second half. Kieran Mulvihill deservedly got a black card for a foot trip.
Padraig O'Sullivan and especially Killian played well at the back for South Kerry but it was up front where they had too many failures, fringe Kerry players who did not advance their cause. I am thinking of the likes of Paul O'Donoghue and Ciaran Keating. Ian Galvin was their best forward with all too rare contributions from Bryan Sheehan,
Dingle 2-9 Legion 2-8 HT 0-7 2-3
With a couple of minutes to go it seemed it was just a matter of winding down the clock for Legion, leading as they were by two points. Keep possession and demoralise the opposition, whose body language suggested they too were just waiting for the final whistle. But keeping possession is a two edged sword. Play broke down about the midfield area and was snapped up by Paul Geaney who spent most of second half out the field, with some success. In any case, he collected possession ,as one could hear the Dingle death rattles, and he set off on a mazy run, dodging past one man, weaving past the next, expecting surely to be hauled down, but no, he kept going and let go a daisy cutter, it was blocked but not collected and the ricochet was slammed home by whom I do not know. Only of academic interest. It was the goal and not the scorer which caused the sensation. Time only for the kick out.
From a goals point of view it was so different in the first half, with Legion getting the rewards. The first goal came from a cross field kick which JO'D retrieved. Did a little dance, spotted Conor Keane alone in front of goal, floated it across to him and Conor duly knocked it home with his fist. Goal number had the two same merchants involved. This time JO'D won possession towards his right wing forward area. Did a little dance, looked up and kicked a beauty into Conor, who swiveled and rammed home. A thing of beauty. Legion dined out on those two goals for the first half with Dingle having more possession but being unable to free up Paul Geaney, who kicked just one from play all evening.
The second half was not very old when Marc O'Connor soloed through, shot blocked but finished to the net by ? Mathew O'Flaherty. It was backwards and forwards for a good while after that with neither team able to make a decisive move. As stated it looked as if Legion had sealed it with one from play by James, his only score from play, and another from a free again by James. But along comes Paul and heartbreak for the Killarney lads.
Mickey Geaney played aggressively well at CHB for Dingle but he should curb his tendency to get involved in squabbles. Indeed most of the Dingle backs were satisfactory, especially in the second half. Young Barry O'Sullivan ,though listed at midfield, played most of the game in the full forward line. Played well too and looks like a man who could successfully make the move to u21 and senior. Conor Geaney kicked two points while Paul shone sporadically but only when he came out. He took a heavy tackle near the terrace sideline in the first half and that seemed to impede him . But of course it was he who made the telling incision at the end.
Legion will have nightmares about that late goal. However, they had opportunities as the game was coming to the end but they had some careless wides, due chiefly to bad shot selection. Indeed on a couple of those occasions James had maneuvered into good positions but was not seen or was ignored. In the first half, they seemed to be very conscious, as they should be, of servicing JO'D and Conor Keane, but they dispensed with that part of the script in the second half. It cost them dearly.Podge O'Connor and Damian O'Sullivan did well in defence . Padraig Lucey was too cumbersome at midfield. Jonathan was quiet in the first half at wing forward and was fairly quiet at wing back in the second half too. He did kick a great point in front of the stand in that half but Legion needed more from him. The Legion numbers were very difficult to read but as far as I could make out they had a number twenty three who played well. That would have been Kieran Slattery according to the programme.
P.S. Legion's colours are green with a white band across the centre. Their numbers, which straddled this white band, were white also. Impossible to decipher. Is their anybody with imagination involved in jersey colours and numbers?

Paul Kennelly was the best forward on the pitch, finishing with a tally approaching 1-8(0-5f) worth a pop for the kerry seniors next year?
