I second that from Homerj do ye think Paul Kennelly is worth a look in the League for Kerry . He certainly should be on the panel anyway, the best player on view yesterday and there was 6 lads in there who have been involved with the seniors in recent years.

Dingle just about deserved their win with what was surely one of the youngest teams to take part at this stage of the competition; they had 5 minors from the beginning and all contributed handsomely- I think Marc O'Connor is a special talent given that he is under age again for minors next year. His goal kept them in the game and he never gave up in his tussles with Lucey. Brian Kelly will not have happy memories of this game however- he was very poor for the first goal and nowhere to be seen for the second at the end. I thought that the ref was especially poor in this game- he did not seem to be in control, spent a lot of time consulting with umpires/linesmen and often took no action!

Is it a Dingle V Shannon Rangers semi final so or? And Possibly Mid Kerry V Stacks? Should be 2 crackers to say the least unless another massive upset is caused today.

Yesterdays games in Austin Stack Park gave us something not seen in the County Championship in recent years - hot favourites being comprehensively beaten and late drama in a tight game between two evenly matched teams.
In the first game, Shannon Rangers were the hungrier team by far. But they also had better footballers scattered throughout all lines of the field. Shane Enright and David Culhane at the back were very good (Culhane played wing back throughout and not midfield in the first half as another report suggested), Jeremey King gave Bryan Sheehan little change from open play and once Paud Costello came on they dominated midfield where O Mahoney came out on top in the physical exchanges. Up front Kieran Mulvihill handled a load of ball and never wasted it, putting Killian Young on the backfoot in the process. Mikey Boyle created havoc anytime the ball went in and Paul Kennelly oozed class throughout scoring fantastic points (and a goal) from play as well as kicking some difficult frees. South Kerry were very disappointing. Kevin O Dwyer was probably the pick of the backs, both midfielders were well beaten and Ian Galvin was dangerous at different spells up front. Bryan Sheehan tried his hardest but was making up for their lack of a midfield and didnt get on much close to goals. Their dangermen up front, well Ciaran Keating probably touched the ball 5 times and didnt score, Paul O Donoghue got one point from play but was well marked by Enright and Culhane at different times.
The 2nd game was a real tetchy affair, there was a lot of "tight" marking going on by both backs and the referee had his hands full with some of the stuff going on off the ball. Legion started with James O and Conor Keane in a two man full forward line and almost everybody else behind the ball for long spells. Keane got two early goals both made by James O, the 2nd goal was a superb finish. Jonathan Lyne kicked one lovely point and got on a nice bit of ball around the middle but maybe they could have pushed him on further when playing with the wind. At midfield Padraig Lucey was very ponderous in possession and didnt win a lot of clean catches either. For Dingle, after Tom Sullivan, who was marking Conor Keane, was booked Dingle moved back I think Paul Devane on Keane and he did a good job. Darragh O Sullivan (and Barry at times) along with Mark O Connor shaded the midfield battle. Paul Geaney shipped a heavy tackle early on and looked to be restricted by the knock for the rest of the game but he was instrumental in the late goal. Mikey Geaney played in front of the two Legion full forward line for a lot of the game and moved on a bit in the 2nd half once Legion moved James O into the half forward line which suited Dingle. But it was the Dingle youngsters who impressed me most, Mark O Connor at midfield, Barry O Sullivan at full forward and midfield while Conor Geaney and Matthew Flaherty (it looked like Flaherty who got the winning goal although I couldnt be sure) tried hard throughout even though they were giving a lot away in terms of strength and experience at this level.
Dingle probably wont fear anybody who is left but the same could be said about Shannon Rangers.
I wont be at todays double header, I hope to head for the Ardfert/Castleisland game, but look forward to hearing reports from whoever is there.

shock of the championship, Shannon Rangers have absolutely hammered South Kerry and are into the semi final..... unbelievable Jeff. Hardly that big of a shock with an unfit Sheehan and Declan?

One positive of South Kerry going out at this stage is that I'd imagine it means that Declan can have the operation on his knees that bit sooner.

Mid Kerry 2-14 Laune Rangers 1-9
Sounded like Mid Kerry had too much for the Laune lads.

So its Stacks, Dingle, Mid-kerry and Shannon Rangers. Turning into a right unpredictable old championship.
On the subject of Declan, are Dromid not still involved in the Junior county championship ?

Mid Kerry did have far too much firepower for Rangers little or no impact from Peter Crowley gave Darren O Sullivan far too much space Donncha Walsh was immense atleast 5 points from play by him.Second game was a ridiculously bad game of football. But one guy I was very impressed with was Cathal O Luing kept Shane Callaghan very quite and seems to have got a lot faster.Eanna O Conchuir was getting the better of his man in the first half at full forward but was moved out the field for 2nd half.

Stacks have a real shout this year, nice blend of youth and experience. In woeful conditions, I was really impressed with the likes of Greg Horan and Conor Jordan, they are turning into fine defenders and in Horan's case an excellent attacking player as well. Shane O'Callaghan was a bit quiet, but still showed a bit of class with the couple of scores he got.
Dingle are a really exciting team to watch with all that young talent, I'll be surprised if Mark O'Connor and Matthew Flaherty don't make the grade. Flaherty would be a great replacement for Donnchadh in a few years time, his work rate is phenomenal. No surprises he was in the possession he was to poke home Dingle's winner yesterday.
The only side I havent seen is Mid Kerry because I missed the earlier game today. At the moment it's a really difficult one to call which is what the county championship has been crying out for over the last few years.

I think the draw will be tomorrow night. West Kerry were very poor. No cohesion and looked every bit the team that had not played in ages. Stacks will be favourites now I'd imagine. Only caught the last 10 minutes of the Mid Kerry game. They should be good semi-finals. All will fancy their chances.

Was the rule changed a few years ago? If a divisional team won the county championship it's the club champions(crokes or legion) who represents us even if a club team loses the final? The runners up were allowed about ten years ago(remember crokes after they lost to south kerry) but it's been changed as far as I remember

Presume the minor final will be held up as long as Dingle remain in the senior competition? I wouldn't say so! Isn't there a thing with the under 21 championship can't be held up because of minors , so I would presume same applies the senior champ

Presume the minor final will be held up as long as Dingle remain in the senior competition? lixnaw were in the same boat in hurling and had to play the minor final between drawn and replayed final, with players involved in both. on this point it would be interesting to track the amount of games mark o connor plays next year, not to mind what he has played this year, between school, club and county minors,u21 club and senior club.

So of the 4 teams left who do ye think could get a call up . I still believe we could be looking for a goalie . I think Shane Ryan is the future and Im still not convinced by Kelly or Kealy . Is there any Keeper out of the 4 teams left . Backs Fergal McNamara , and David Culhane should be there in the League Midfield how about Wayne Guthrie or Darragh O'Sullivan ? Paul Kennelly , Gavin O'Grady , Conor Keane , Shane O'Callaghan , Shane Carroll ? maybe .

Stacks v Dingle at 2 and mid v Shannon at 3.45 in tralee Very impressed with but a problem they have this weekend is ballyduff playing hurling league final on the Saturday! They need a fresh mikey Boyle firing on all cylinders to stand any chance

Pity the games are not being played as a double header - would attract a bigger crowd and draw more neutrals. stacks V Dingle in Tralee @ 2 and Shannon Rangers V Mid Kerry at a Mid Kerry venue at 3.45.
