Very well deserved win for the stacks but how the ref never awarded a free to mid kerry for Donaghys goal is a mystery still don't think it would have affected the outcome but from a mid kerry point of view very poor refereeing at a crucial time

Congratulations to Austin Stacks, well done and well deserved. Now time to concentrate on how to beat the Cork side Ballincollig. These opportunities don't come around every day, hopefully Stacks won't overdo the celebrations.

A few years ago we had a lively discussion on this forum regarding the methodology involved in choosing the Kerry captain. I was opposed to the archaic system of the captain coming from the county champions. My argument was that a captain should fulfill two criteria: 1. Be certain of his place 2. Have some leadership qualities.
During the discussion I cited the case of Seamus Moynihan who was nominated captain in 2000 because there was nobody from the county champions on the Kerry team. Therefore, a quirk of fate rather than the traditional approach gave us one of the best Kerry captains witnessed in my time- certain of his place and inspirational qualities to burn. During the discussion, I further mentioned Kieran Donaghy as potentially a great captain who may never get the opportunity because Austin Stacks were going poorly at the time!
Well, it has come to pass that KD is going to get his chance after all. I have no doubt he will be a wonderful captain. He will lead his team by word and deed. I do hope however that "word" will be confined to cajoling his colleagues rather than wasting energy in arguing with the referee. He was inclined to have words with the referee on Sunday. A fruitless exercise. I have no doubt that Eamon will have a "word" in his ear in connection with that matter.
Regarding a different matter: I saw the second half of the u21 final last Sunday and was hugely impressed with what I saw. Both teams were littered with fine players, to mention just a few: Tony Brosnan, Jordan Kiely, Eanna O'Connor, Rob O'Se. I have made a suggestion previously that this competition should be u20 so that all the participants should be available for u21 intercounty duty the following year.

I agree Moynihan was a great captain - just to note that he was captain in both 1998 and 2000 as of right rather than as a quirk of fate: he was playing with East Kerry who won three County Championships in a row. Johnny Crowley was captain in 1999.

I would fully agree with you on moving to U-20- having said that all those mentioned fit that criteria with Jordan & Rob being minors this year!

Saw rob o'se on Sunday and was very impressed with him he must have been very unlucky not to get a run with the minors dominated midfield for the gaeltacht with some great fielding

Donaghy being captain works out very well and in fairness, with the odd exception the rule normally gives us a really good captain, am sure Gooch would have been Captain this year again
Seamus, Gooch, Darragh or players from those 3 clubs would have been Captain 10 times in the last 16 years.
U then have declan x 3, galvin, darran with tomas filling in 1 or 2 years.

The club will bring 12 busloads of supporters to Fitzgerald Stadium free of charge as their famous brigade of followers once more hope to make their presence felt. But O’Connor is unhappy with the decision by the county board’s competitions control committee to fix the game for Killarney. Prior to the first match in Austin Stack Park, he made his feelings known then about the county final venue. “It’s just a pleasure that we are at last playing the county final in Tralee, which should always be in Tralee.” He is adamant no other stadium is as suitable for a county final as Austin Stack Park. “You would have to be disappointed it’s not in Tralee. I suppose when you look at Killarney, there might be 80% of the stadium that will be empty on Sunday. You lose the atmosphere whereas in Tralee the crowd are on top of the pitch and the atmosphere is incredible.” traleetoday.ie/austin-stack-park-to-shut-from-may-until-spring-2016/
