anyone whos been unfortunate enough to have played games that the ref of the 2nd game has reffed before wouldnt have been surprised to see the pen given.........its his speciality.........the best vision of any ref in the country he can see 2 players 70 yards away and know that tis the back whos holding the jersey.......its like the soccer player always looking for the hollywood pass this guy always looks for the hollywood close in free/pen award that hes managed to spot from 70 or 80 yards away.......
overall tis good for the game 2 club teams in the final.....gooch v star for the captaincy......hard to see what stacks can do to mark gooch.....unless they put 2 guys on him theyve no hope at all at all.........

anybody spot the 16th Stacks man on the pitch for the last 15mins? He was nearly on the goal line at one stage, how the referee, linesmen or umpires did'nt make him leave the pitch is baffling but fair play to him for doing it because it worked

ah was waiting for the usual narrie sour grapes. What 16th man are you on about. Well the most satisfying about the results today is that the narries wouldnt be representing kerry in the munster championship. They simply dnt deserve it!
should make a great final. Hope it on in tralee, would make great atmosphere!

The decision to award Crokes that penalty has to be the most ridiculous decision I've ever seen by a referee! What the hell was he thinking? Is it even within the rules when the ball was 40yds (at least) away? Completely bizarre and had a huge effect on the game. A great fight back by SK in the second half and the post saved crokes more than once. I thought at half-time that Stacks wouldn't keep it kicked out to Crokes in the final...different opinion at the fin ish. I still hink Crokes will win it but its far from clear-cut. From the first game, if the two Geaneys are not on Kerrys NFL panel, I don't know what to say.

Was in Killarney today ... enjoyed the outing on a lovely sunny Autumn day. Agree with most of what has been said by previous posters. Crokes V South Kerry really was the game of two halves .... and despite their comeback South Kerry had left themselves too much to do in the second half. The Gooch is a joy to behold ... he just sees things that others don't and sets up attacks that don't look to be on at all. The overwhelming feeling I had in the first half though was that the ref was really ruining the game. I know they have a job to do and its a tough one that not many are willing to take on, but he was so whistle happy for the most pernickety things and as someone else pointed out for things that were happening 60 yards away from him. I felt it really broke up the flow of the game, it had a real stop-start feel to it in the first half in particular.
As regards the Dingle v Stacks game, I felt that overall Stacks deserved their win. Dingle were overly relient on the 2 Geaneys in the full forward line for their scores. If they could have gotten more ball into them, they probably could have done even more damage, but supply was limited. The 2 goals were very well taken. Was most impressed by these lads and I'm sure we'll see a lot more of them. Thought Kirby did very well in the middle until late on when he tired. Star was quite influential and I thought his two defensive contributions at the very end were very effective.
Have to agree with one or two other posters who mentioned the verbals from certain county players ... I know they get frustrated, but I think its awful to see it and it doesn't get them anywhere, other than into the refs notebook!
Looking forward to the black and amber county final .... I suppose one would tip the Crokes now, but I reckon it should make for a very good game!

Can anyone say for sure what was the offence for the South Kerry penalty yesterday?

When Gooch got fouled off the ball and a penalty was given against Limerick in '04 people didn't seem to have any problem with referees giving penalties off the ball then!

Apologies for the choppy video for both games yesterday. Just not enough bandwidth in our broadband line. Will hope to have fixed for the final.
Didn't catch the Gooch's penalty incident on any camera but the ref was on the 40 and looking straight at the two players.
South Kerry penalty came as a result of the ball landing on top of the post and then falling into the penalty area. It was grabbed by Ronan Hussey (I think) and he tripped over Buddy O'Leary who was lying on the ground.
Brian Looney's goal from yesterday.
Will post a few more clips this evening.

South Kerry should put Stephen Sullivan on the Gooch. He would have no fear of marking him and would believe he is better than the Gooch. However I have heard that it might be Stephen Curran who will get the job. Is Jamie Doolon playin wit the Crokes? Interesting prediction..............

Gooch was immense yesterday, the strength he showed to hold Stephen Sullivan off the ball was unreal and then when Crokes were under pressure he showed for the ball and conducted the Crokes final attacks. Compare that with the oppositions star forward who was lucky not to be sent off and spent a lot of time mouthing at the referee

Cooper calls shots for Crokes Dr Crokes 2-15 South Kerry 1-13 By Jim O’Sullivan
Monday, October 04, 2010
THEY’ve been foiled by South Kerry twice in recent finals, but a Colm Cooper-inspired Dr Crokes ended that hoodoo in nail-biting fashion yesterday to book their place in another Kerry SFC final.
It wasn’t without drama, however, as the divisional side whittled down a 13 point interval deficit to leave Crokes living on their nerves in the final stages.
Superb free-taking by Bryan Sheehan brought the holders thundering back to within three points before Crokes regained their grip and edged into a final against Tralee’s Austin Stacks.
It’s the first time the two clubs have met in a final since 1994 (when the Tralee side won in a replay). And for that they could thank Brian Looney and Colm Cooper for two early goals which helped inspire their victory.
Looney had the ball in the net before the divisional side had time to settle. That was in the opening minute and in another three minutes Cooper converted a penalty he won himself.
The South Kerry challenge was weak at this stage even though they were playing into a reasonably strong wind and were limited to three pointed frees. Cooper, as expected, spearheaded the Crokes attack and his marker, Stephen O’Sullivan – another in the litany of club and inter-county players who have opposed him – was simply unable to curb his influence. In the circumstances, the management had reason to regret the absence of Killian Young because of injury.
Additionally, Eoin Brosnan was prominent at centre-forward for Crokes and with the benefit of a controlling defence and the predominance of Ambrose O’Donovan and Johnny Buckley at midfield, the Crokes attack as a unit enjoyed a continuing flow of possession. And, to their credit, they made the most of it.
Conversely, South Kerry struggled to get decent ball into their inside forwards and while Declan O’Sullivan was involved in the play at different stages, Bryan Sheehan was isolated in around the goalmouth.
With the half extending to 36 minutes after a few skirmishes around the middle of the field, Crokes were 2-10 to 0-3 in front and looking good.
Immediately on the resumption, defender Aidan O’Sullivan scored what proved to be the first of only three points from play for South Kerry. And after Ambrose O’Donovan’s magnificent 39th minute angled point, Crokes would wait until the 57th point for their next score – by which time the margin had been reduced to a goal.
With their pride at stake, a South Kerry side which has enjoyed significant success in recent years, lifted their standard significantly, tightened up in defence and were much more competitive at midfield.
In addition, Declan O’Sullivan (foiled of a goal soon after the resumption) had a bigger role, while Sheehan and Ronan Hussey were also more effective.
It was Sheehan who sparked their recovery with a well-taken penalty in the 44th minute. And, finishing with a goal and seven points all from placed balls, two of his frees from close to 70 yards range were absolute gems. The end result was that Crokes had their backs to the wall after conceding a goal and six points without reply up to the 55th minute.
They broke the siege with a Cooper point from a free won by Daithi Casey and three more scores in quick succession eliminated any doubts.
Scorers for Dr Crokes: C. Cooper (1-6, penalty, four frees); B. Looney (1-4, one free); A. O’Donovan (0-2); C. Brady, D. Casey (free) and S. Myers (0-1 each).
South Kerry: B. Sheehan (1-7, penalty, five frees, two ‘45s); R. Hussey (0-4, three frees); A. O’Sullivan and B. Hickey (0-1 each).
DR. CROKES: K. Cremin; J. Payne, M. Moloney, D. O’Leary; S. Doolan, L. Quinn, S. Myers; A. O’Donovan, J. Buckley; A. Kennelly, E. Brosnan, B. Looney; C. Cooper, D. Casey, C. Brady.
Subs: N. O’Connell for Myers (51); B. McMahon for Kennelly (60); A. Kelly for O’Donovan (62); J. Jones for Casey (65).
SOUTH KERRY: L. Sheehan (St. Mary’s); S. Curran (do, capt.), A. O’Sullivan (Piarsaigh na Dromoda), S. O’Sullivan (Skellig Rangers); Denis O’Sullivan (Piarsaigh na Dromoda),B. Hickey (Skellig Rangers), C. O’Driscoll (do); J. Sugrue (Renard), J. Golden (St. Mary’s); N. O’Driscoll (St. Mary’s), Declan O’Sullivan (Piarsaigh na Dromoda), A. O’Sullivan (Skellig Rangers); R. Hussey (Sneem), B. Sheehan (St. Mary’s), N. O’Shea (Piarsaigh na Dromoda).
Subs: W. O’Sullivan (Skellig Rangers) for O’Driscoll (29); I. Galvin (Derrynane) for Denis O’Sullivan (ht); P. O’Donoghue (St. Mary’s) for Golden (36).
Referee: Seamus Mulvihill (St. Senan’s).

Narie10 my friend, I am not from the rock or any of the clubs in the county simi finals....But if star gave Quirke a run for his money and came out top in the game happygreen was talking about fair play to donaghy...Quirke in my eyes is a very solid midfielder...but not a top class county midfielder... a very good club player at most and a winter county footballer... he is also a fine dirty player and gets away with it, one of the best at it!

well said neilesflynn, however this is a topic about the senior county championship and not narries beating the rock in a mickey mouse contest! Narrie if you would like to start a thread about the narries, be might guest. Im sure you will have plenty to talk about in particular the fact the whole county is laughing at your off the field problems!

Can any Rockie tell me what the deal with throwin the toilet paper on to the field is? There fans create a great atmosphere anyway and in the tighter confines of Austin Stack Park it could be very intimidating on County final day

Mickey Mouse contest - its easy know you dont really have a clue what you are on about. Anyone with an idea of football would know that no matter when Stacks or KOR meet then it is full blooded and it always matters. As for the whole county laughing at our supposed off field problems then again anyone in the know would understand that these are vicious rumours...again look at your posts before hitting the return button.....small typo in your last one. Best of luck to the 2 sides in the final. As you said this is a senior championship discussion so I will let it at that.

At least there might be a bit of atmosphere now that the game is on in Tralee, last years county final was utterly forgettable in all aspects. One minor gripe was after the game a lot of stacks supporters were over the moon about Kerins O Rahillys being out of the Munster club championship i thought it was petty in the extreme especially since they have won nothing yet but in saying that best of luck to Stacks its great for the town.

crokerman, will the game be showin live online We hope to stream the game. At least, thanks to Kerry Broadband, there is a great internet connection in ASP, so hopefully the transmission will be better than last Sunday. Only problem is copyright. AFAIK TG4 hold rights to all club games from County Finals onwards. Because there have been Divisional Teams in the Final for the last few years they haven't shown the final live. I'd suspect they'll be showing this game live on terrestrial TV. If we get permission, of course we'll stream. Fingers crossed.

the 1994 final between the same two teams generated a mighty atmosphere in austin stack park. I cannot wait for the 2010 final. Should be packed house in austin stack park. I am nearly glad it is on in tralee. pack the place out. make for a better atmosphere than 15k in fitzgerald stadium.
