tough introduction for Spa. Crokes and West Kerry will be a very good game. South Kerry tend to start very slow but should still be too strong for Ballyfoilmore who seem to have lost their momentum a bit this year

Crokes versus West Kerry and Stacks versus Ardfert are the games that grab my attention.
In fairness, most of the games in the 1st round the last few years have been fairly lifeless and have had an element of dead rubbers about them with the back door option available and divisional teams only finding their feet. indeed it hasnt been unknown for divisional teams to have scarcely trained together before the championship starts. Its hard for them with county leagues, club championships and kerry in the munster championship.
I wont be getting too excited about the 1st round games but the two games i have mentioned do interest me. Stacks and Ardfert also met in the club championship. where will this game be played. Ardfert generally play their home football championship games at Kilmoyley hurling club's pitch in Lerrig. A fine pitch that footballing folk dont get to see too often

Reckon West Kerry will be a good outside bet this year, provided they can gel as a team. Stacks are flying at the moment too but not strong enough to win it out id say

South Kerry could be missing a lot of players for the summer so could be vulnerable but drawing Bally/Foilmore will focus their minds as they wont want to lose to them

Gary Driscoll, Aidan Shine and maybe Eoin Neill are heading away. Three players from last years team. They might not be going til after the first South Kerry game

First game of this years championship on tonight in tralee.St Brendans v East Kerry.
Tough one to call as its hard to know line ups for the teams.East Kerry showed no interest in last years competition but i would expect some change in that with former Mid kerry boss James Sheehan now at the helm.If East kerry get proper commitment from the Gneevegulla lads then they should go through.

Not much to report on I am afraid. Very disapointing game. East Kerry played with a stiff breeze in the first half and led 05-03 at half time. Game was tied at 07-07 with about ten minutes to go and it looked at this stage that East Kerry could win it, however it was the brendans who pulled away in the end. As I said it was a very bad match and I would be very surprised if either team were to make an impression on the championship. Thought that Paul o Sullivan in goals, Shane Brosnan and Mikey brennan were good for the Bredans. Not sure about the East Kerry boys. Very small attendance at the match aswell.

They believe that Tommy doesn't contribute as much as he should considering he's an inter-county player

I believe that Dingle fully value Tommy Griffin's contribution. Whole hearted player and always has been. My understanding is that Colm Benny and Paul Geaney are heading away next week and they wanted to have it played before they left. Sooner be missing one player than two.

Yup colm moriarty and mikey geaney goin away, paul is doing his leaving cert, i believe it was tommy's decision...he's carrying an injury and would prob have to rest after today anyway, of course they value his contribution, he was outstanding all last year for them, what a load of rubbish

We don't ask much of our county players. I see the Stacks Ardfert game is down for Friday, 5 days after going to extra time in Cork with many others down for 6 days. Extra time is been listed for all games.
Today kieran will spend the day recovering from the physical exertion of the last two weekends, I'd be surprised if he or any of the players are in work today. By mid week the strain in muscles will be starting to losen out.
By Friday he'll probably be looking at taking a half day off at least to prepare his body for a 6.30 start on a Friday evening.
This is the type of weekend where players will pick up injuries due to different warming up/down schedules in a different envoirments while their bodys and minds will still be in recovery mode.
If I remember correctly Tommy Walsh picked up his ankle injury in a similar situation last summer.
The kerry players should be spending next weekend in the Sheen Falls unwinding, not on the battle fields of the kerry senior championship. It was interesting to listen to George Hook over the weekend pick up of the excessive exposure of the Irish players in the professional era to the game.
Yesterday was a big ask and a big delivery from a group of outstanding amatuer players.

Just posted the same idea on the replay thread. I really hope any of the players with niggles will head for the beach instead of the pitch. While we are in a good place right now i feel that an injury to a key player could bury our season as the bench does not have the depth. An injury to Declan, Gooch,Mike Mc etc could be fatal. I can only imagine the pain in the bodies when the legs touched the floot this morning.
I assume that Jack will warn them of the dangers but very few of them will turn down their clubs. It is an accident waiting to happen to a tired body.

Lads i understand what ye are saying from a Kerry suporters point of view but believe or believe it not there is a lot more to the GAA than just intercounty teams.Club players havent played a competitive game in 2 or 3 weeks now and need to get the chance to play Championshp at the weekend. If we are going to be looking after players like that there would be no club games palyed during the summer(i mean involving senior panellists of course)
I would expect the Kery players to be a bit sore today but they should be fully recovered by tomorrow or the very least Wednesday and be fine for the weekend.

Dead right!! If the club scene was pushed aside everytime a county match was even remotely close to a club game the county team would be non-existent! Players of all levels need to play consistently to ensure a better quality of competition and to avoid unnecessarily long seasons! Take for example the KDL soccer, matches are called off for half nothing over a season and as a result Killarney Celtic last season started in August 2008 and finished their season in July 2009 and started up this season again in August 2009 with only 2 weeks of a break!!!! If this starts happening in GAA then none of our players will be fully fit and rested for matches!!

I was thinkin along the same line as "buck02" except for the Crokes maybe beating West kerry. There are odds up, and that accumulator with stacks, legion, feale rangers, South Kerry, LAune Rangers, Strand Road, Mid kerry and crokes worked out at 50/1. There will surely be a couple of draws or upsets though.
