So it's confirmed today we play Cork in Killarney. Judging by todays game I can't imagine Cork will come close to beating Kerry but they still provide the bigggest test Kerry can get from Munster and Kerry need all the tests they can get. Can't expect a crowd of more than 20,000 attending this game especially with Cork hurlers out the following day vs Waterford. Hopefully we'll have a few more bodies back than we had in our last few league games.

I would be surprised if the crowd reached 20K. cork hurlers the next day a big factor Kerry and cork couldnt fill pairc ui rinn 2 years ago so I d say 20k is optimistic

we get 12,000+ at our home league games, why cant we be aiming for 18-20k for a game at home against Cork?

Munster Championship is a division one side vs a mid to lower div two team at best. Worst is Munster Council will orob chsrge €30 for the 'privilege' to watch... Well that's a few reasons alone...

I'd be thinking 20k might be optimistic also, I think thats what we pulled last year in the All Ireland game vs Mayo on a beautifully sunny day. Mayo is a much more attractive game to our supporters and Mayo would probably bring 8-10k down with them, I cant see Cork bringing anywhere near that either. I know I mentioned 20k earlier but I think it would be more around the 15k (or maybe less) if I'm being honest.

That coupled with higher admission prices for the championship makes me feel 20k for kerry v cork is an ambitious target.

Atmosphere was so muted most games due to poor quality and weather, defensive set-ups, & cross-field handpassing that most people spent the 70 minutes chatting with the people around them, with the occasional rise in atmosphere where the ball was turned over...only for silence to take over again once the bodies starting flooding back. Very hard game to watch now outside of the top 3/4 teams playing each other

4 O'clock on a Saturday is a bad time for this game for people working ect. With this weather and darkness, latest you can probably have the game is 5.30 in case of ET and penos! Mental early in the year to be having these games played, we often played Munster Finals in July!

I'm assuming TV coverage is also a factor in the timing of this match.

Mental early in the year to be having these games played, we often played Munster Finals in July! I think there may have been a Munster Final replay played in early August back in the early eighties. Maybe I'm wrong but it was about 4 weeks after the first game. As you say, different times.

Can we not stop moaning in the GAA for five minutes. i try to stay positive most of the time but ive a huge issue with this nonsense of playing championship this early in the year and a heap of games thrown in. whats happened to Leitrim this week for example, is an absolutely disgrace.

AH reminds me of a certain divisional board meeting good few years back, twenty minutes after discussing player burnout, they were trying to find a window for the U21 championship... one suggestion was quarters on a Friday evening, Semi on the Saturday and final on the BH Monday.... I'm not bashing, but of the appearance even at central level is to get played off as the earliest opportunity, park and plan for the next phase... I agree, personally, that its early, maybe like them over there, play the championship same time as league, that way teams play the same calendar but games are staggered.. maybe Ja Burns has ideas, to be fair, I like what he is about and what I have read and heard so far....

we can have all the talk about times, venues, split season etc and many of it is valid debate no matter what opinion is, but the bottom line and most important of them all, is player welfare.....intercounty players are being treated disgracefully.
look at our injury list for example its the worst ever and we are only 1 year into this now....its the same for most counties.

Like others I wonder if I'll ever get used to Championships starting in April and Munster finals in early May. But whether it is the 20 April or the end of November there will always be something special about Cork/Kerry in Killarney.
I just pray the appalling weather can somehow abate over the next two weeks and you can enjoy finding a perch on the terrace as opposed to sheltering from the wind and rain in the stands!
I will say a 4pm Saturday throw-in is a nice time for people looking to have a few drinks with friends around the game, booked the train from Tralee and back last night so we don't have to worry about parking and designated drivers!

I generally prefer standing on the long terrace for games but I opted for a Stand ticket this time in case this weather keeps up. On the day I am sure I could sneak around anyway

€25 for Stand & €20 for Terrace. Not The worst price for a Kerry Cork game, expected it to be more.

I'm assuming TV coverage is also a factor in the timing of this match. I would think the big reason for the early throw in is lack of flood lights in Killarney. Would probably have been fixed for a later time if it was in Cork. Mayo Roscommon & the hurling will have the prime time slot on the Sunday I'd imagine.

Cork have targeted this game a while back and have adapted their training plan accordingly. We were looking lucky to beat them in the Pairc last year, they ended up beating Mayo and ran Derry close, no bad team. They have improved significantly and they rate Corbett highly. They will be in our faces, probably similar to what Galway did to us in 2018 when Kevin Walsh was manager now their coach. We will need to be at our best and anyone that knows their football should not underestimate them.

1987 MF replay was on the August weekend if memory serves me correctly- both Munster Finals went to replays, both played in Killarney. Heady days (at least for some).

A question in relation to GAAGO.
I just happen to have a bunch of family events on the afternoon/evening of 20th - the date of the Kerry/Cork game. The game is at 4pm. I have a free 90 minutes slot from around 6.30pm. Does anybody know if the game would be available for viewing so soon after the finish.
Or does one have to wait some time for the game to be put up for retrospective viewing - like some other sport streaming sites?
Many thanks.

Even when the games are in progress you can go back to the beginning. I have been late on a number of occasions, I avoid looking at the score and go back.

Has anyone an update on Joe O Connors injury Also Jason Foleys progress ? Are they our only injury concerns, have Diarmuid O’Connor and Dara Moynihan recovered? I know Cillian Burke is back, Dylan Geaney another who’d be in contention for the 26 who was injured.
