Maybe inside line, but he has played across all the lines you mentioned, not the expert but like him inside or in the middle. As someone mentioned he was in before, so can’t remember him getting any game time. The lad definetly has quality, enough of experts to see where he might fit. He was an unbelievable minor but I think his problem is he doesn’t have the mobility or work rate that is so highly valued nowadays at inter county level. As we are in the immediate chat, I must ask what are the chances of Darragh Lyne getting called into the training panel for Kerry. Has a great pair of hands and a good half forward (possibly midfield), the real standout player on an average Legion team the past couple of seasons. I think, personally, he has greater ability and potential than some players already in the Kerry panel. Athletically he is ready but would he have the skill level in him to compete with intercounty players. The only way to know is to have a look. Him, Dan O'Donoghue and Evan Looney are the 3 players from East Kerry clubs I'd think would have a chance of being called in. Paul O Shea, as mentioned, has great ability and I would like to see him get another look also but I would think it will have to be under another Kerry manager as it doesn't seem that Jack fancies him all that much, whether that's down to his ability or mentality I'm not sure.

Glenbeigh got the better of Beaufort by 11 points to 10 in Beaufort. To me, they looked like the better organised team and the fitter team from the start. Their experienced players, Pa Killkenny in the 1st half, Jack Brosnan, Colin McGillycuddy, Darren O'Sullivan, and Gavan O'Grady had a major influence on the game, ably assisted by Liam and Aedán Roche, Caoilte Purcell, Liam Smyth and Rian O'Donovan. Where Eddie Walsh got almost 6 minutes of injury time from at the finish was a mystery. Try as they did, Beaufort couldn't force extra time. Sean Coffey switched from goals to full forward for the last 6 minutes and was a real handful. If Beaufort had taken their points instead of going for goals, they could have won it. Sean O'Brien and Mike Breen were anonymous all through.

KOR went in 7 points down at half time - they played against a wind in the first half but I don't think it was a 7 point wind. Fossa were the better side against a poor KOR in the first half. The second half saw the introduction of Tommy Walsh (listed at 14 but did not start) and Darragh O Connor and they played much better until it came to taking their scores - they squandered a load of chances in the second half and ended up losing by 4. They also finished with 14 men in what looked like a harsh red by the ref who will not have endeared himself to the home support but when push came to shove Rahilly's only have themselves to blame for the loss - if they had converted more of their chances they would have progressed.

Only themselves to blame in a nutshell - down 7 @ half time was a mountain to climb but 9 points from 20 chances tells its own story; they kicked 13 wides in total to Fossa’s 4 - that’s why they are out. On the referee, when dies this guy not want to be the centre of attention? Jack Savage, from my vantage point, added a late point from a free - the umpire beside the post it was nearest to, pointed to the other umpire that it was a point - the ref, standing in the middle of the pitch, thought otherwise & over ruled his umpires, disallowing the score. The red card was , at worst a yellow- he did not bother to consult with his linesman, issuing a straight red. The Fossa midfielder was yellow carded just at the start of the 2nd half - he took out Tomás Kennedy off the ball later in the game- ref waved play on, then called him back when the ball went dead, and just ticked him!! Think he was unfit to ref the game in a physical sense & was often unable to keep up with the play.

I had planned to attend the Strand Road/Fossa match but I backed out worrying about the Rose Festival traffic/parking situation. Instead I paid my E13/14 fee to Clubber. The commentary was reasonable, the co-commentator said little and was largely inaudible In any case and the camera work was only ok. I felt it was a poor enough return for my outlay which to me was on the steep side. Also, I didn’t watch the match live and while watching the recording I was subjected to repeated breaks for advertisements. All in all , an unsatisfactory experience especially for the rather extortionate stipend. It certainly reinforces the adage that nothing beats being there. On the other hand , without this service one was left twiddling one’s thumbs,
The match itself was of reasonable quality and even though it wasn’t bristling with intensity and bite a fussy referee brandished yellow cards as if the match was about to boil over. He issued a red one towards the end to a Strand Road player which appeared to be totally unwarranted. One further matter, he didn’t look to be slim, trim and brimful of energy.
The story of the match is that it was essentially decided in the first half. Fossa being economical with their opportunities, Strand Road being profligate, a profligacy which continued in the second half. This contrasting methodology ensured a seven point advantage for Fossa at the break. Fossa got their goal from ? , appearing to be scrambled over the line. That was a back breaker for Kerins O’Rahillys. Needless to say , the Clifford double act was central to Fossa’s supremacy , with Paudie masterfully controlling affairs.
Tommy Walsh came on for the second half but did not make any impact. David Moran played all through and did treat us to some of his trademark long range kicking but did not get on the ball often enough to steer his team to victory. Similarly, BJK was on the periphery of affairs. Still, in spite of these less than stellar performances from onetime folk heroes, Strand Road manfully fought back in the second hall, not helped by the aforementioned wastefulness, They plugged away at Fossa’s lead and looked to have orchestrated a goal. Thomas Kennedy unleashed a sizzler but Fossa’s goalie seemed to fly through the air to effect a wondrous save, That was a pivotal moment. Nevertheless , they took the game to their opponents led by the classy Jack Savage. Jack must have got the guts of ten points with ? three coming from play. However, Kerins O’Rahillys couldn’t get closer than three points , losing by four at the end.
Fossa were deserving winners. Could they be about to reprise their odyssey of two years ago? They will take great encouragement from beating such vaunted opposition in their back garden.
I felt sad for Kerins O’Rahillys in the sense that I always want football to be strong in Tralee. I am not sure what their underage talent is like but clearly some of their faithful servants are only a step away from redundancy. Time is relentless. On the evidence of last night I am fearful that they could be residing in the basement for a while. Of course , it maybe , unbeknownst to me, that there are a few more Thomas Kennedys in the pipeline. I am rarely disappointed with this rising star. Even though he was not often on the ball last evening , everything he did had that touch of stardust which might herald a David Moran like future. One worry I have is that , with his level of athleticism, he may become a target for avaricious Australian agents. Say it ain’t so, Joe!

On Clubber - I personally believe it has regressed since last year. Adverts seem absolutely crammed in, and the fact you can only rewind 60 seconds when watching a match live is really frustrating. The increase in cost has not coincided with an increase in quality.

On Tomás K I see the real deal - still only 17, he was not born when Tommy & David played in the All Ireland minor final of 2006!!! The lure of Oz will be hard to resist I fear. Finally on the ref - he is junior standard - the red card issued last night will easily be rescinded based on video evidence - as I said earlier he does not even look fit & refereed a lot of the time from the middle of the pitch. The fact that he failed to consult with his linesman regarding a dismissal personifies his arrogance.

I would have the same observation on clubber, my renewal was up recently and wrote to them about price and the amount of adds even on watch back after, got little joy. Great service but please maintain quality camera work and up the commentary.

Austin Stacks, Fossa, Glenbeigh/Glencar and Laune Rangers are the last 4 standing. 3 away wins in the quarter finals. Nobody could have predicted that! Draw for the semi finals is on this evening. I was in Glenflesk for the feast of football that was served up by Glenflesk and Laune Rangers. It was played on an immaculate pitch in perfect conditions, and generally well refereed by Éamon Moran. Rangers were victorious by 3-19 to 2-18 after extra time. Some very good performances from players on both teams. Jamie Moynihan, Tommy Bowler were good for Glenflesk, while Darragh Roche was unmarkable. Eoin Clifford, Oisín Birmingham, Fiachra Clifford, and the Hassett brothers, Gearóid and Eoin were on form for Laune Rangers, with John Burke and Matthew Leslie making a big difference when they were introduced.

Semi-final draw Laune Rangers v Fossa Austin Stacks v Glenbeigh/Glencar Laune Rangers and Fossa should draw a big crowd. The average age of that Laune Rangers team must be very young. Fair going for them to dig out a result today. Stacks should beat Glenbeigh but only scoring 2-9 today must be a bit of a concern. Glenbeigh keep proving me wrong

Glenbeigh well worth the win but can’t see them overcome Stacks .. though Stacks didn’t impress against Legion.. Liam Smith looked the only one worthy of a Kerry panel place .. could he be answer to midfield problem.. definitely looked stronger than Breen or OBrien

Agree a lot on Beaufort. Thought they played poorly yet still missed possibly 4 goal opportunities and 10 wides. Ó Brien and Breen anonymous for county men
Fossa will be dangerous, think they'll have the upper hand on Laune Rangers, a team that only beat a severly depleted Glenflesk outfit after x/t
Stacks to beat Glenbeigh/Glencar...handy..

Agree with you on both fronts I can't see laune rangers having the defense to hold the Clifford's in the park and stacks to win handy

Just finished watching all 4 quarter finals on clubber, a lot of tense matches with 3 away wins!
Beaufort didn't get out of 2nd gear v Glenbeigh, missed 4 clear cut goal chances as well as about 10 wides with the county men Ó Brien and Breen shockingly quiet. Liam Carey was also not involved as much as you'd expect. And yet they could have won the game late on when their most impressive player, young Darragh Ó Connor hit the butt of the upright. The main men for Glenbeigh stood up, Liam Smith had a powerful match after a quiet first 15, and Gavin Grady and Jack Brosnan were impressive as was Darren who came in to the game late. And they took more of the chances that came their way. While it was an exciting finish, it was the poorest quality match of the 4 quarter finals I thought.
Rahillys also missed an awful lot v Fossa, a load of wides. Paudie was once again the best player on the field, Coffey struggled with him. David has the class inside. Rahillys missed the leadership of Tommy in the 1st half. Jack Savage was very impressive and Tomás Kennedy is some prospect. Rahillys lacked scoring threats inside though, whereas Fossa had a good spread of scorers. Again like Beaufort, I didn't think Rahillys played anywhere near their potential and Fossa, after a strong 1st half, saw it out.
Laune Rangers eventually got the better of a Darragh Roche inspired Glenflesk in extra time. Glenflesk were short the likes of Daniel Ó Brien, Patrick Darcy, Luke Crowley and Chris Ó Donoghue before the game, and midfielder Jeff Ó Donoghue got injured after 3 or 4 minutes. After an impressive performance, they should have seen out the match in normal time after being well up. Darragh kicked points for fun, but missed a crucial goal chance that would have put the result to bed. They were very unlucky also when they had the ball deep in 2nd half injury time in front of the Rangers goal but didn't get a free I thought they deserved, and Rangers broke to equalise. Rangers will have to tighten up at the back, conceded a lot of frees and the full back was lucky not to see red. But Eoin Clifford a class act, and Gearóid Hassett very impressive in the forward line. A cracking game of football though between two young teams.
The last quarter final saw Stacks beat the Legion. Didn't think they were firing on all cylinders, but they ground it out. Cian Gammell and Darragh Lyne drove Legion I thought. Joe Ó Connors late runs were very hard to stop, and I think he finished with a couple points. James Ó Donoghue was a big loss for Legion, and Stacks did what they had to do to get over the line. Paddy Lane and Ó Gara their most dangerous forwards, with Fiachna Clifford outside them doing well. Brian Kelly was very unlucky not to stop the early penalty, the ball rebounding off the post after he got a touch only for it to hit off him and roll back in to the net. Still probably the favourites for the competition, but not by as much as I was thinking earlier in the year

Still probably the favourites for the competition, but not by as much as I was thinking earlier in the year Fair play Bishop, good review of the quarters. Having been at 2 of them I’d largely agree with you. I don’t know who you mean by “O’Gara” for Stacks. Michael O’Gara wasn’t playing anyway. You meant Fiachna Mangan not Clifford also clearly. I think one of Stacks major weak points is the lack of end product. None of their starting forwards got more than one point from play. Paddy Lane got the 2nd goal from a flick in after a great run and pass by Joe O’Connor. Stacks were ultra defensive with 15 behind the ball for a lot of the game but they’ll need to up their performance to win this thing out I believe. Darragh Lyne gave Armin Heinrich a lot of trouble and Cian Gammell was very much running the show in midfield for around 40 mins before Joe O’Connor came into it and had a strong last 20. Fossa v Naries - a close affair but Fossa were the more clinical team. Benefited from a couple of refereeing decisions that could have gone the other way I thought, but Rahillys just a bit short of firepower outside of Jack Savage. I only saw bits of Glenflesk v Laune but it sounds like a good game. Glenflesk will be kicking themselves. Beaufort once again fall short in a poor performance. They just aren’t getting anywhere near their peak with the talent they have. 2 interesting semi finals ahead in this with neither game easy to call.

Apologies Shannonsider, Horan I meant, not Ó Gara. And Mangan on the 40. Agree with you on the scoring threat, they rely a lot on physical hard runs through the middle. Glenbeigh will have 13 behind midfield, might be hard to break down, but I think they will eventually if they get a lead and Glenbeigh have to come out

For all the talk of how competitive the intermediate is you’d get low odds now on the final being between the big pre championship favourites and the team with close to the 2 best footballers in the country. A few teams I feel haven’t reached the levels they could have this year. Glenflesk were down 4 or 5 key players, with them they would have been very strong contenders. Beaufort are developing a habit of underperforming in knockout games but Kieran Dennehy was a huge loss for them.

A few teams I feel haven’t reached the levels they could have this year. Glenflesk were down 4 or 5 key players, with them they would have been very strong contenders. Beaufort are developing a habit of underperforming in knockout games but Kieran Dennehy was a huge loss for them. In all of the reports that I've read about the Glenflesk/Laune Rangers match, the players that were absent for Glenflesk have always been mentioned. It should also be noted that Laune Rangers have been down starting players during this championship. Missing the last day were these starters, David Mangan, Patrick Carey, Shane Daly, and Eoin O’Sullivan, while Ryan Diggin only managed 10 minutes on the pitch. It's almost like Glenflesk are being given an excuse for not progressing further, because of being down players, but not enough credit is being given to Laune Rangers for doing so well, while also missing key players. Looking forward to next weekends semifinals, a lot will depend on how Gavan O'Grady, Darren O'Sullivan and Caoilim Teehan do up front for Glenbeigh/Glencar when they break against Stacks. Looking at them against Beaufort last weekend the support that they get from Liam Smyth in midfield will be very important. I think that he's a player in the same mould as Joe O'Connor, but with a little more quality. It'll be a very interesting battle between them. If Glenbeigh/Glencar can stop Austin Stacks from getting early goals, they could have every chance of upsetting the odds. Stacks are a big strong team, but I'm not sure if they have the finesse to break down a packed defense, although if Paddy Lane finds form, he could be the difference. Himself and Daniel Kirby have done well so far in their 1st year at senior level. Stacks only big win of the championship so far was against Glenbeigh/Glencar in the group stages, but I feel that GG will learn more from that loss than Stacks will have learnt, and remember, Stacks only defeat in the county league was against next Sundays opponents. I still feel that Austin Stacks will have too much on the day, but it'll be much closer than the bookies or common consensus predicts. The second semi-final is a very hard one to call. Lots of questions that will only be answered on the day....who will pick up Paudie, David and Emmett O’Shea for Laune Rangers, and who from Fossa will pick up the Hassett brothers Gearóid and Eoin, and Daire Cleary. How this game is referreed will have a big bearing on it. Hopefully the better players will be left play football without being fouled cynically, and it'll be a good open match. I'm going for the draw in this one at 7/1.

Disappointed by glenflesk and Beaufort myself for differing reasons. Beaufort never turned up again, time is pushing on for that team. Glenflesk didn't live up to the hype as much as was talked about by some people. We all knew they had alot of injuries and players in US. It's their own responsibility to have their house in order before this competition and having all your players on the field is an important part of that. In fairness darra roche was lethal against laune rangers but needed others to step up and alot of them were not even on the field. People will say they are a young team etc and plenty of time to win it but you must have your house in order before championship

With respect Luke Crowley, Daniel O’Brien, Chris O’Donoghue and Patrick Darcy are of a different calibre to the Laune Rangers players you mention bar David Mangan. All 4 are in and around Kerry panel standard at least which is a massive total loss. John Kelliher a Kerry u20 also wasn’t available to them.
