I am one of those in the camp that has yet to be truly convinced if the uptick in Kerry's defence is to be trusted. Yes I can see from my own eyes that the defence seem to be playing better and all the stats e.g. one goal conceded from open play back it up. However, we have faced no challenge at all in the championship yet in terms of our defence being tested. Mayo should have had a goal from Kevin McLaughlin in the first half when our defence was entirely flat footed when he blazed over the bar. How many of our league games were played in decent footballing conditions? Did we not play a dysfunction Dublin team in a gale wind? If memory serves me right we played Monaghan on a bog of a pitch, Mayo in a storm. Donegal didnt know how to attack in the league. Kildare did cause us problems in newbridge. Sunday should be a big test of this defence and we will see what happens. Hopefully we have a plan B in place that if Dublin do decide to play with six forwards that we can re jig our team to free up Morley if that is the plan Monaghan pitch was just fine, dry day also. The McLouglin chance was a good chance but this came after four of our players converged on a ball that squirmed loose, it was a bad mistake but there were plenty bodies at home, we weren’t carved open by sweeping play

Guys I was thinking, I either just got a brain wave/fart (depending on how you see it). It was mentioned on here that Kerry play a lot better when Paudie is at number 11 rather than Seánie and judging by Seánie vs Mayo he seems more dangerous closer to goal. Perhaps Seánie might make a damn good 14 with Paudie at 11. Team being: 1) S.Ryan 2) G.O'Sullivan 3) J.Foley 4) T.O'Sullivan 5) B.Ó Beaglaíoch 6) T.Morley 7) G.White 8) D.O'Connor 9) J.Barry 10) A.Spillane 11) P.Clifford 12) S.O'Brien 13) D.Clifford 14) S.O'Shea 15) P.Geaney
People might argue the fact it might take away a kickout option having him at 14 but Seánie could always drift out for the kickout. Also Adrian is a great ball winner from half forward. About Jack Barry, yes David had a huge game vs Mayo and deservedly deserves to be in the conversation about starting this game. However, Barry is the man to track Fenton. Moran cannot track and DOC's game is taken away when he is left track (which we saw vs Mayo due to Barrys absence) instead of him showing off his high skill level on the ball. Just food for thought but it would be my team personally.

Guys PC has rarely played at 11, he might have wore the jersey, but for the most part he has been the link to take the ball from defence and transition it to the forwards, that’s the role he will play this weekend, not because he is good at it, but also it let’s our 2 man full forward line have the space they thrive on, do people not see why geaney and DC are getting most of our scores, bring another man in their , the dubs would thank us for it, help them mark dc with an extra man. By all accounts let seanie drift in during the game as geany moves out to create a mismatch around the goals.
The reality around PC is he has not been at the heights of previous year but still making a telling contribution, PC was all star material last year, but off it this year, maybe the second year syndrome .

I watched the Mayo Quarter Final again last night, and one thing I noticed is that in most intercounty football matches positions are meaningless really. Goalies (obviously), 3 backs and 2 forwards for both teams will generally hold their ground but everyone else could be found anywhere. It's so fluid that it's shapeless. We'll have 9 players in the middle who will be either attacking or defending, whoever they'll be.

I seen both Brogans comment on the lack of coverage etc of the game. With Bernard saying teams should be made do interviews etc While it's true there's not been much in the media but not every player is as media hungry as he was/is.

Paudie possesses a bit more pace & if beating his man can set up dangerous plays 2. Seanie gives an aerial outlet particularly on marks & would be guaranteed to kick his scores given his accuracy.

Will Jack go back to 2004 All Ireland Final tactic and reign in high ball and target Murchin and Gannon.

Unless they are individually overrated, in terms of skill, I feel Kerry are better than Dublin and should beat them.
But I don't think I gave Tyrone a chance last year for similar reasons.
I'm nervous.

We got a bit of joy off marks against mayo it could be a worthwhile tactic on sunday geaney and clifford are very accurate and davids range is obviously ridiculous! Doesn't have to be massive high either just accurate and we have plenty of good footpassers to do it. Cant wait for this lads should be a belter time for our lads to stand up and really drive at dublin in particular there older players lets see what rock , mcarthy, cooper and fitzsimons have left in the tank!

Colm O'Rourke on radio 1 just tipped Galway and Dublin. Dublin on the proviso James and Con play, he said. All the pressure is on Kerry, none more so than DC he believes. Team dripping in minor medals versus team dripping in senior gold.

I dunno how much I buy into this idea that our guys are walking around the place this week tense from pressure in a way that the Dublin guys aren't

Should we have more faith in the bookies odds mindful of the old adage 'they are rarely wrong'?.
This is from the Examiner this morning: 'David Clifford and James McCarthy are expected to be fit for Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final but doubts remain about the availability of Con O’Callaghan.' If Con was really out would we know by now or is the Dublin dressing room just that watertight.
Regardless, Keane above is right, why wouldn't Dublin be under as much pressure, a terrible 12 months by their own standards of the last decade and a team whose elder statesmen surely know a defeat on Sunday and that's probably that in terms of this era of Dublin GAA. 2021 can be dismissed as a blip if they reclaim Sam this month, if they don't every knows its the end of the road.

Team dripping in minor medals versus team dripping in senior gold. He’s right, more of the pressure is on us. However handling pressure is what top level players do and we have a lot of top level players. I’m nervous but I think we’ll do it. I would also agree with playing Seanie closer to goal and have him and DC inside

I wouldn't agree with CO'R regarding al the pressure being on us. I've never seen any footballer carry the past into a football match, the good ones will prepare as best they can and give their all on the day. Yes, there is a pressure to perform but the pressure is about this one day only, an All-Ireland semifinal. History won't matter to a twenty something year old, it's not their role to put right the wrongs of the past, their role is do their best to cross the next bridge, Dublin.
Early in the league final, when it was still a match. PG missed a 20m free just off left centre, right foot shot. You'd put your house on it. Ooh's and ash's from the crowd. I was thinking how he'll be rattled after that. He demanded the next ball and kicked a screamer, left side, left leg, no bother. Pressure is for tyres!

There is pressure before every big game as hermit said above it could be a watershed for dublin for a few years lot of lads 30 plus on their team. Also a loss for dessie farrell would really ramp up tge pressure on him not the most beloved character up here anyway and took some criticism last year re mcarthy not being captain and his clubmate cooper getting it when it wouldnt take a genius to work out mcarthy was the obvious choice combined with so many ballymun players in the squad. Parachuting in a hurling fullback into the squad nid season smacks of a bit of desperation tbh and is hardly a ringing endorsement of his faith in the lads looking to play back there. Their collapse against mayo last year coupled with relegation probably heightens the pressure if we win on sunday by a few the mood music in the capital will not be nice i can guarantee that. There are still tickets available for sunday its clear the fair weather fans now believe there is rainy times ahead.

Please God those Fairview fair weather fans are right DC84!! And lets hope that come 6pm on Sunday evening the recriminations in the capital are beginning and that they prove to be very long, very bitter and very divisive!
2009 was the catalyst for this era of Dublin dominance, it would have been perfect symmetry for it all to have been brought crashing down by us in 2019.
Alas life and history is rarely so simple and clean, but I'll take waiting an extra three years if it happens this Sunday ;D

I think they will, Geaney, SOS, Paudie and David are in good form. Particulary Geaney I think, his decision making is really good to watch this summer.

Those who let off about fake news often offend themselves, what with the media now 'advising' us where the game will be won and lost - sure only 3 need turn up. Do they feel the need to boost interest and attendances or what?
It is a 26 man squad and that along with management is what will win it, and a bit of luck on the day.
In clutching at straws pundits are descending into all matter of rigmarole - 'predicting' a stalwart will display a new skill he just perfected the day after he persuaded mon and pop to take him into Dowlings in Tralee for his first pair, etc.
Ah maybe they are just having to flesh out the possibilities as they have to fill column x square inches and that is what they, and consequently we, are reduced to, with the tight lipped MO that has become the norm.
I suppose the story could be worse, they could be misleading us; so maybe 'tis a case of no news being good news?

The butterflies are starting to spread their wings and flap about and the mind is a lot more on what lies ahead in Croker then these last few hours of work before quiting time. Christ most of me wishes it was 6pm on Sunday and I just knew the result one way or another. Waiting and hoping is what will slay you

Team dripping in minor medals versus team dripping in senior gold. That is pathetic punditry from O'Rourke. "Dripping in senior gold" - the Kerry team beaten by Cork in the 1987 Munster championship (2 games) had approx 90 AI medals. The current Dublin team almost certainly has less medals than the team beaten by Mayo last year. And people have been jailed for not having a licence....

I absolutely agree with your sentiments here regarding the inclusion of Eoghan O Donnell. Not only to be included 3/4 way through the campaign but to be actually be given some minutes against Cork is an absolute head scratcher. I believe these minutes indicate he will see game time against us on Sunday. If you were a sub on the Dublin team I'd say you'd have to feel fairly disillusioned with this. There hasn't been much talk about it but if this is a ploy that Dessie Farrell actually goes with he will be pilloried if it fails. If I were a Kerry forward and Mr O Donnell was assigned to mark me I'd be screaming for every ball.

From what I am hearing, the parachuting of Eoin O Donnell into the panel has already had a significant impact on the availability of certain players. Time will tell if it turns out to be a master stroke or a serious own goal.

I would like to remind posters that Dublin did nt collapse last year v Mayo and Mayo were aided by very lenient ref decisions. Mayo won extra time fairly but got a draw due to very soft frees. A retaken 45 but the most important one was Comerford being done for over carrying on the wrong. Yes Dubs had a poor league with a half a team and I say now as I said then. Write them off at your peril. Pressure? The only one under pressure is Dessie. If Dubs lose he gets the abuse. If Kerry lose Jack is safe. Dublin looked home and hosed at half time v Mayo. At least a few points up. Their second half performance had elements of a collapse about it. The mistakes that crept into their game was shocking that day. They showed very little stomach for the fight. I fully expect them to have their bellies full of fight on Sunday.

Lee Keegan then drove forward and drove Mayo to victory.
