This is a question, that I'm looking for the answer of.
Sub goal keepers, in the golden years to 81 ish it was Paudie Mahoney behind Charlie Nelligen, in 91 Peter O'Leary was the number 21
In between I know Mitchels Rory Kilgannon played a few league games as did Tom Lynch from Castleisland.
Who else was out there as our sub keeper in the 80"s?

I remember Michael Hussey ( Stacks) was around the panel in the late 80s & May have played a league game or two; John Kennelly ( Listowel) was minor keeper in ‘78 & played in the U-21 All Ireland semi after Charlie Nelligan was sent off in the senior final - not sure if John was ever in the senior panel though. Peter Lyons ( Laune Rangers) springs to mind too in mid 80s - think he was sub for a couple of years & would have played in the league. Donal O’Neill ( St Mary’s) also played in the league around ‘86 & ‘87. Kieran Moran ( Derrynane) may have played league football in late 80s.

Wasn’t Kieran Moran the junior Keeper in 1991?
Looking at old league programmes, there is an O’Sullivan lad from Kenmare listed as number 21 which was the sub keeper number back in the day. Never heard of him, and a Lyons from Castleisland?…

Well I'm not sure how much he played with them.

Lyons from Castleisland would be Mossy Lyons, he was a great defender. I'm open to correction but wasnt Peter O'Brien of Crokes the sub keeper for a fair while?

No it's before Mossie Lyons time, I'm talking 88/89.
Ya Peter O'Brien and his club neighbour Peter O'Leary has a good tustle 93-95. O'Leary was MOTM vs Cork in 93 in Killarney, he was in goals from 92-94, in 95 O'Brien started against Cork.
Paidi brought in Declan O'Keeffe in 96 to 2003 with O'Lesry on the bench.. Murphy then followed.

If my memory serves me correctly, I don't remember Gooch playing any part of the Championship 2014 and wasn't listed as a sub in the Final. But I believe that he was given a medal. He was tagged off and ready to play that day. Back then, you didn't have to be named to make the panel If my memory serves me right he wasn't available but he was a 16th man - hey, ye know the crack! On that note, is he involved in Crokes underage? What a role model? His book, his dad taking him to matches regardless of who was playing - nurturing par excellence! And on the occasional occasion Maureen would do as mothers do, all clubs have 'em, some mothers are 'em - as oft I say, thank God for small misfortunes - keep us big men on our toes!

What do Mick Spillane, Pat Spillane, Sean oShea and Brian Talty have in common. They're all qualified teachers? Talty and the two Spillanes won Sigerson with Thomond college.

So it's the Sean O'Shea who is at fullback for Thomond you're referring to!

Micko is the man, but do you know one stat that really surprised me, how high up Declan Quill was for league top scorer in a league year. Unfortunately once dry sod came and the club tied Gaeltacht players became available, he petered off... he invariably was keeping Dara O'Cinneíde's spot warm for him in the early 00's.

Declan was a gifted player, no surprise to see him do well with the ladies team. unlucky is one way to describe him, directly up against Gooch for one spot and Gooch hit the ground running. Mike Frank at his peak too.
easily one of our most skillful ever players, just came at the wrong time.

Quill was Kerrys top scorer in the league twice I think and was the overall top scorer one season from what I remember. I think I once read he played in an All-Ireland semi final every season from 2001 to 2005 but never actually played in a final. I'm sure he was linked with Limerick and Laois at some point during the 2000s.

For sure Quill was unlucky in contention with Gooch Mike Frank Johnny Crowley Ó in éide etc.On highest league scorers surely Mikey Sheehy up next to Micko I'd imagine. Sheehy was a prolific scorer and free taker of course too. What may have hindered Mikey was in the golden years, Micko didn't take the league seriously... avoid relegation was the key, anything further was a bonus

I don't know the answer but it's something I thought about recently.
Has any team not been relegated from Div 1 of the county league? Off the top of my head I'm thinking Strand Road.

Just looking through records on Wikipedia, 1953 was the last year ending on a 3 that we appeared in the senior final. Won that year also. 30 years prior to that, 1923 was the next one before that.
Hopefully, David Clifford won't be wearing 13 this year which is another omen!

So an update to the answer of one of these questions. Kilgarvan now are the most recent club to have had a senior player with Kerry. I would think they'll have a first championship player in the summer also.

That ASP is not Stacks field had a few of us running the slide rule over what County fields are owned by County Boards. All Donegal ones are Club owned, I assume the new Castlebar one is owned by TCB as are CP, PUC ... is Fitzgerald stadium the exception, being privately owned? What's the story in other counties?

I might be wrong but I think I once read that Mitchels actually used ASP before they had their own place. In the past a lot of county grounds were also club grounds. Dr Hyde Park was Roscommon Geals. Letterkenny is/was a club ground as well.

Who captained the Kerry Minors and was unable to get his place the following year, though still underage? Ah I know this makes it easier, if more of a trivia - he had lifted the Tommy Markam? Ballydonoghue's Robert Bunyan?
