Just off topic on Mayo, if they are beaten by Galway, that means there into the qualifier round, which might afford them some easier games to bring cillian o connor up to speed, let us not for get, for the top 16 teams there is a back door, one of the pundits suggested it might be easier navigate the qualifiers than try win ulster. Qualifiers don't contain Div 3 and Div 4 fodder though - unlike the Connacht SF. Not a lot of cannon fodder in the Connacht SF this year, 3 Div 1 teams, no Div 1 team In Leinster.

Just back from playing golf on a stunningly beautiful morning in North Dublin. I might lie down now for a while.
The wife is putting on a fry.
I will get the 30 minute bus ride around 2.30.
A few pints after the game and the bus home later on.
The Dubs have it aisy!

Don't suppose anyone with a free ticket from their season ticket who isn't going today would be willing to pass it along? Looking for one for a broke nephew, thank you

Hopefully a big crowd today. Was at the games yesterday and only 8,000 came through the gate from 4 counties who wouldn't regularly play in Croker (in football anyways). On the bright side, here's a good article from the 42 on a more in depth inside to Paddy Tallys role a very interesting read: www.the42.ie/paddy-tally-kerry-defence-5728691-Apr2022/Up The Kingdom 🇬🇫🇬🇫🇬🇫 Alas someone has lit the fire of 'how to play Gaelic football today' on here, so I will open a thread in that name. It is what we are all about after all and while 'closed door' training starves us, it is also the reason this thread should be of interest.

12 mins gone and there's one word to be said - wasteful And continuing to be. Kerry can kick lots of points here and are going for goals.

Half time, ahead by 6 but should be more. Need to get a grip on this in the third quarter before we tire and/or Mayo turn the screw on us.

Very wasteful but well on top in all areas - forwards very slick but have left 3/4 scores after us; defence excellent & very disciplined - half backs are the launchpad for a lot of attacks.

The next 10 minutes are crucial now If mayo's Diarmuid O'Connor was playing today I'd have assumed the ref made a mistake. It's like Kerry have had the extra man for the past 10 minutes.

Jack Barry and Adrian Spillane had big games today … Shane Ryan very solid. A lot of other big performances also. Delighted for Jason Foley to grab the final score - he was probably Kerry’s player of the league. Mayo very under strength. Kerry’s panel very very strong. 6 weeks very heavy now to get the fitness levels ready for Championship.

The continued rise of Jason Foley, Tadhg Morley and the defence in general is the most pleasing aspect.
It definitely feels like we're onto something much bigger. Both aforementioned have added at least 15% to their games. Incredibly heartening to see.
I'm not sure what impact this will have on Mayo but I was very surprised to see them so bereft of ideas in the way they were. Big ask to turn it around against Galway. You wouldn't put it past them all the same. Great to see Cillian O Connor return. Mayo badly need him.

Despite the early wastefulness, this was a very, very pleasing afternoon. Not least the performance of midfield where we dominated for once. Really sharp to the breaking ball.
And just how satisfying was Clifford's total destruction of plastic hardman O'Hora?

I thought Foley just about pipped Clifford for MOTM, he was absolutely superb again

Adrian Spillane had been excellent all the way through the league, very happy to see the brace of points he tagged on today.

I don't know how much keeping their powder dry for Galway Mayo were at today. Only time will tell. Admirable performance from Kerry and, during, Diarmuid's very harsh black card 10 minutes, kerry never resorted to players going down and calling for doctors etc. We saw that from our last opponents. For any young players watching today, David's reaction to OHora's silly trashtalking was absolutely brilliant and commendable. He's an outstanding player really. Maybe the greatest we ever had. Too bad the Munster championship won't be a great springboard for Kerry going forward to championship. We can't have everything I suppose. Congratulations to the team, management and all the supporters who made the long journey today.

Ah delighted for Ballydonoghoor Jason, he got it rough at times, FB is a key building block to overall defence - priceless, hopefully he can now continue to grow and become a leader.
That O'Hora is the best man to mark David augers well for the future, for us - mincemeat comes to mind!

The usual Bull where O Hora was acting the Boll1x hitting DC off the ball. Swinging out of him. Shoving him into the back and whats the result....Two yellows. Pathetic.
O Hora was roasted after it though.

One of my big hopes for Kerry this year in croker under new management is to see a capability and trust in the bench. Make changes when needed and trust the lads that are on the bench. I don't think we will win today unless there is good use of Tony Brosnan, Sean O Se Joe O'Connor and Killian Spillane. The balance of our forward line doesn't seem right. No serious team in any sport interchanges goalkeepers like Kerry have done. This is a huge factor too in average midfield performances to date. To be honest today is a must win for Kerry. We simply have to lay down a few markers. We're well capable. I'm hoping Tony starts and named team is a dummy. Disappointing Joe not starting Could not have asked for more. Big performances all around the pitch but most pleasing was the performance of Shane Ryan, Jason Foley, TMorley, both midfielders and everyone of the forwards scored by my reckoning. Joe O'Connor a great man to he able to call in to the fray going forward as well as DMoran. Sean o Se to come back too. Lovely to hear the Rose blasting out and also David issue those lovely words "this is only the start of it". Ciarrai abu

O Hora was roasted after it though. that's the way to answer fellas like O'Hora, hammer them on the score board, well done to David Clifford and the Kerry football team, great stuff from all of them, didn't need to bring on Seán O'Shea or Moran either. Midfield did well, up against a really good midfield outfit . Well that puts the Kerry haven't beaten Mayo in Croke Park since 2011 to bed, what's the next still stick that the media will use to bate us with. Let us retreat now to the long grass with our McGrath and league cups and enjoy the show.
