Well done on your victory folks. It was well deserved. We cant really have any complaints about the result. We just weren’t at it today, which was down to Kerry as well. We never seemed to get closer than the 3 points in the second half, and Clifford coming on just made the difference really. Disappointed, but we didn’t play well enough to get anything. And had we nicked a goal at the end , I thought it would have been undeserved. Safe journey home. Gracious as always, Ard Mhacha, fair play.

It will be interesting to see the forums take on the goal keeper debate after today's match. Luckily for Shane Ryan the Armagh forward with the last goal chance wasn't a finisher, thankfully Shane Ryan has a great "presence" between the posts. He's number 1, that was obvious today.

That stadium in Armagh looked top class.the pitch looked a bit rough around the goals but, with Irish weather, that's inevitable. It sounded like there was a good Kerry crowd there.

I agree about the stadium, Fitzgerald Stadium could take a leaf out of Armaghs book when it comes to the stand and toilets. The pitch looked a bit rough alright, for a dry day there was a lot of slipping, maybe because of the bald parts of the pitch. A very strong Kerry support, I haven't seen as many Kerry supporters travel such a distance ever. Great to see. A great day out overall. Armagh have a great chance in Ulster this year I reckon and they'll take great confidence from coming with a kick of a ball withing Kerry.

Would disagree with that to be honest. Neither goalkeeper has been stellar so far. I think Murphy gets a lot of stick for poor kickouts when we see today Ryan wasn't much better against the press. Obviously it's not a kicking problem but, more a structural or tactical one further out the field. I still think we are no closer to seeing who is the best number 1. Ideally would like to see Murphy get a game in decent weather like today. Thought Aidrian Spillane again had a massive game. Not only winning breaks etc but, really making the hard runs and showing for the ball. A bit like Paul Galvin. A true warrior. Morley has really made the centre back spot his own and is now a leader on this team. Was great to see him barking out instructions to other defenders today in terms of positions etc. Jason has massively benefited from having a 'proper' centre back in front of him and looks a much more settled defender. Was looking forward to see how we fared sans Clifford junior today. He played well as always but, would have been nice to see how we reacted in that bear pit today without him. Killian Spillane I feel has fallen down the pecking order somewhat and now is behind Geaney, Tony and Clifford for what is essentially 2 spots for sharpshooters in the full forward line.

Impressed today particularly with our defence. Good workrate , strong tracking back, clever tackling and above all generally in the correct position to stop any goal chances.
Midfield getting better and better too. Diarmuid O'Connor has certainly filled out and is stepped up.

Well now today witnessed a pleasant and all too rare feeling in 2022, returning from a Kerry game dry! The sunshine was a constant companion for the whole trip to the Orchard county and (thanks to the helpful parking info provided by our Armagh guests here)I reached the Athletic Grounds at my leisure. A modern and compact stadium it is too and one where the atmosphere is aided greatly by how close to the action spectators are. Someone in the likes of the Meath and Kildare GAA should earn their expenses by being dispatched on a fact finding mission to study the likes of it and Iniskeen as models of how to build decent and cost effective county grounds! Given the time of year it was perhaps appropriate to be at a pitch overlooked by the two St Patrick's cathedrals - impressive monuments to the faiths that have shaped the history of this island (for good and ill) ever since a young Romano-Briton came back to these shores to introduce us to Christianity in the first place. Ah but I know my Medieval history so, spoiler alert, Patrick did not land back among the heathens in 432AD. In fact its unknown when exactly he first came to Ireland or when he returned or how long he was here. After all there's four different dates given for his death in the Irish sources of that era. You see Patrick is our patron saint not necessarily because of what he did but because of how his life and achievements were embellished by propagandists working for the monastery at Armagh to ensure it secured the leadership of the Irish medieval church in the centuries which followed his passing. Armagh's success can be judged by the fact that most of the world knows what St Patrick's Day is - I doubt many Americans could tell you the date of St Brigid's Day. Kildare's propagandists proved less adept, the irony of all it being there is no historical proof that Patrick was ever even in Armagh let alone that he founded a church there!! Anyway I digress, for I was here to witness another battle for supremacy. And one could not but be happy to be coming back down the road with a win and a League final secured against a team we will likely see again in that very final. Royalfan put it very well above - Jack has put some steel into this side as the past 8 days have shown. Games we could well have thrown away in the past we are steering home in the present. We have a bench that can make an impact but most of all we have a defence that is hard to break through and can harry and hassle with the best. I wonder how long more the armchair opinion of Kerry not being great at the back will survive? Credit to them all because they dealt with just about everything. Only once did Armagh get through on goal and thankfully it was a shot straight at Ryan. Foley read everything well, Casey and Tom looked comfortable and Brian was industrious. Graham and Tadgh went about their business without ever making me too ware of their presence out there. Maybe, like a good ref, the worth of a defenders display can sometimes be marked by forgetting their on the pitch. There's not much to say about David today - another brilliantly taken opportunist goal and if his first point wasn't impressive enough his dummy for the second had the Armagh supporters around me shaking their head, smiling and applauding in awe and admiration - they know their football and more importantly they appreciate genius. Sure didn't I spend long enough admiring Francie Bellew, a genius of a different sort. To echo others, I felt Stephen gave a performance reminiscent of 2019, he was popping up all over the field, linking well and making penetrating runs. Paudie put in another huge performance too getting a nice couple of points and acting as a magnet for the ball at all times. So far so rosy but being the 'animal' I am there's plenty to raise questions about too. First how good were Armagh today and were they really interested in getting a result to secure a final place? Its hard to tell we were 4-5 points the superior side and the eventual three point margin was as close as they came to us after 10mins to us. As for our own: Killian was anonymous and Tony was subdued and both played their part in some distinctly unKerry like wides in the first half.I was informed by the Armagh patrons I stood beside that there is a noticeable incline to the pitch so not only were we playing with a decent wind at out backs we were facing downhill too in that first half. The scoreboard at the break should have looked far healthier given those factors. We simply have to find a way to spread scores across our full forward line. We can't rely alone on DC doing it all himself in there. To emphaise this point neither Burns or Geaney contributed much on being introduced. I'll have to disagree with the prevailing views on here about Savage. I simply didn't see enough to make me think he is seriously pushing for a place on any Championship starting 15. Granted he was playing on the opposing side of the pitch from where I was in the first half so maybe I missed things but he was involved from the get-go in stupid niggly stuff and got himself black-carded which could have really hurt our chances of a result. Midfield has become a worry for me again over the last 2-3 games. Bar one fine catch, Barry and DOC struggled badly in the second half. Long kickouts by Ryan became 60-40s at best and all too often the dirty breaking ball was snatched by an Armagh man. I feel this has now become a potential Achilles heel. Every team has amble video evidence of how poor we are fairing on long kickouts - push up and crowd the middle and you will dry up our supply of ball. On my visit to the Catholic St Patrick's after the game I was lighting a candle to pray for David Moran having at least one last great Championship summer. I hope Joe O'Connor will be started next week to see if he can provide an alternative to an under-performing Jack Barry. The referee had a questionable performance himself. First off its only fair to say that I thought one of Savage's points in the first half was wide and the white flag being raised certainly incised the home fans around me. Perhaps the free in Armagh got in front of our posts towards the end of the next half was the refs way of cancelling that error. How else could you explain a free in being awarded when the Kerry defender was clearly being fouled coming out with the ball. That became a recurring theme in the second half, Kerry defenders being peanalised for trying to get the ball away from short kickouts. I'll be damned if I could understand how they were fouling as opposed to being fouled! Foley was also clattered off the ball around the half way line in the first half and was down for a good while without the culprit even being spoken to. I felt Kerry got very little off the Mayo man in the final half hour but there was a few needless off the ball stuff by Kerry too so we won't rage too much about it. For all that we are unbeaten and looking a decent shout for a 23rd League title - what more could we have asked for this spring? How Jack looks to approach the next two weeks will be interesting. For myself, after unfortunately helping to fund Putin's warmongering with all these miles clocked up by Aston Martin , I think I might settle for Radio Kerry next week instead of making the trip to Killarney. But I'm looking forward to being back in Croker with some silverware on the line.

Great stadium, well run, great facilities. Really enjoyable. Yes but one criticism I would have and its something I've become a lot more conscious of in all the grounds we've visited this season - the lack of basic information being passed onto spectators before and during the games.
For example there was not one mention for why the game did not start until 2:15 today. There was no team announcements before throw-in and at no point were patrons informed as to what players were being substituted. Its not as if the PA system wasn't working considering we were all aware of the minutes silence , the anthem, the half-time raffle and the irate pleas to get the kids off the pitch at half time.
Is it only in Kerry and Croker these days we get to be told about the team lineups and informed of the names of players coming on/off and how much extra time is going to be played? Why is this stuff not being announced either in Newbridge, or Inniskeen or Armagh?
When you consider that in soccer these days patrons in the ground are the only ones not given the opportunity to see the VAR decisions and in rugby attendees are likewise not permitted to hear or be made aware of the referee/TMO conversations and decisions - you really do begin to feel that its the poor souls paying all the money and spending their days actually going to these events are the ones being least accommodated.

True Hermit, When the Kerry team came put for team photo and then went back in I was wondering what was happening. It was however far nicer than that kip in Newbridge.

But I'm looking forward to being back in Croker with some silverware on the line. good history lesson, I would disagree on the MF comments, bar a short period, our boys dominated, why we struggled near the end was that Armagh were on a full press, some work needed here for sure, but to be fair them 2 boys have been full on since there return, we had no meaningful back up till now, savage also had a fine game no doubt about that and the score was a point for sure from my view, what I find amazing is you could not see him in the first half as you said he was on the other side of the field, but yet you could see the score go wide? Are you sure, no argument by the players either. also players have off days, as did Tony and killian today, but we have others standing up, it’s the remarks about starting 15 I believe add no value, 15 players will win nothing, what we have now is a squad, all well able to contribute to our system of play, lots to look forward too.

Good to get out of Armagh with another test, another close game, another clean sheet and most importantly another win. The positives were the performances of the Kerry defence (especially Dylan Casey), the performances of Stephen O'Brien, Paudie Clifford and Jack Savage up front and that Joe O'Connor got some minutes into the legs and we can now afford to rest midfield players. Also though Diarmuid O'Connor was doing well until that head injury. Negatives: Spillane and Brosnan were poor today. Tony was too quick to shoot on sight and had some poor wides whilst Killian didn't get involved in the 1st half at all apart from a couple of poor wides. Kick outs in the 2nd half, we were cleaned out. Both short and long, we got caught in possession too easily from our short kickouts. Long kickouts we just looked tired when contesting them in the 2nd half. However, it's very positive that we got the win. Especially when we were missing the following: Seánie O Shea Dan Donoghue Paul Murphy Mike Breen Gavin White Gavin Crowley David Moran Dara Moynihan Kerry are in a great place, a changed team for Tyrone next Sunday will give more fellas a chance and then a league final the following weekend and a chance for a lot of these guys to win a 1st Croke Park final in Kerry colours. Let's put Tyrone down if we can. We need to settle on a 24.

Would love to see Stephen O’Brien regaining the form of a few years ago - would be a huge addition to our half forward line. stephen has improved his game, his runs forward are more measured and heads up, the ball into Clifford for a goal is an example, previously Stephen was heading into trouble , great to see him going well, need all players we can to win SAM Stephen. Give you the savage work rate and runs direct. He’ll still run into tight spots but overall we’re lucky to have him Especially the way he’s playing currently

Just saw on twitter and I think they're right. DC's goal celebration was a nod to Donaghy who celebrated a goal against Donegal in a very similar way. Nice way to round the circle if this was the intention.

As for the other reason I'm being directed to Specsavers there was a point scored at my side of the field that looked wide to everyone in that section. Maybe I'm mistaking Savage as the scorer, I haven't watched back any of the game yet.

Lads the goalie option is still 50-50 and I think it’s the biggest decision facing management , as I mentioned previous, they are both top class keepers and we are lucky to have both, in a game of fine margins, personally I believe it’s about which keeper can handle the different pressures applied by opposing teams during the game, I have not studied stats, but I assume management will have and make their decision , us mere mortals can continue to debate, but I am happy that we have 2 top class keepers, which either can step in, as both have had good game time thru the league, look at other teams like Donegal , Monaghan and Tyrone have not tried any other keeper I think.

He's number 1, that was obvious today. Ok, any particular reason for this? Yep for me his stature and presence is the deciding factor. They are pretty similar on shot stopping and restarts.

Really enjoyed the trip met some sound armagh lads good old craic they are a proper d1 team in fairness they will learn a lot from this year and would be good bet for Ulster given the relatively poor showing from the rest of the teams up there. I thought our half backline was the big difference they couldn't live with our pace. Beaglaoich was fantastic the competition in the that line is unreal no guarantee for white, Breen or Murphy getting starting places. Savage was good but he has a temper on him didnt really see the black card but he was mouthing way too much for my liking needs to keep his mouth shut! O brien was immense really put his hand up and he offers something different with his pace. All in all we are in a great place heading into a league final not sure there are too many teams that want to join us there! Armagh are playing Donegal and they meet again in a few weeks could be serious shadow boxing there. Mayo weren't great Saturday and may be more focused on high flying Galway. It actually opens the door for kildare if they beat mayo by 3 or more they could sneak in if armagh take a beating vs Donegal.

That's mad re: Kildare could get relegated or could end up in a final! Seems we are the only team next Sunday that has nothing to play for.
Hope Monaghan can pull out a performance and send the Dubs down - but alas, as I feared, the reports of their death were greatly exaggerated.

You'd have to say that, in addition being slow out out of the blocks themselves, Dublin probably had their 4 hardest games first (on current form anyway) and the 3 easiest to finish. Donegal and Monaghan look to be the poorest sides atm and Tyrone are just schizophrenic this weather.

I'd actually prefer to see Kildare meet us, I suspect Mayo and Armagh are simply not that interested in a League title. It might be a case of both of them going out next week not overly concerned about winning.
Kildare meanwhile would probably grasp at the chance to win some national silverware and would go all out for such a game.

Ok, any particular reason for this? Yep for me his stature and presence is the deciding factor. They are pretty similar on shot stopping and restarts. I agree it's Shane Ryan as our number 1 due to his stature and presence, no way Murphy would have blocked that shot at the end, the ball would have hit the roof of the net.

Ya kildare with Highland and Daniel flynn would test our backs the hermit , we'd get a good test off their midfield as well. I still think we'd learn more if we played Mayo, Mayo hate us with a passion and they'd hate to lose to us in Croker, they'd have the beating of us around the middle and I'd love to give Tom another go at Ryan O'Donaghue, if it was to be Mayo I'd like to have Moran available to put big Aidan in his place again. Aidan thinks he's a hard man till he meets some1 the same size as him.

My point in the debate on GK is that it is not as clear cut as some commentators are making it out to be. You can't say for definite that SM would not have saved it as he is capable of pulling off some fantastic saves. SR did make the save but it was a poor short kick out that led to the chance in the first place. Neither have made a mistake that has cost Kerry in the league so far so therefore all our discussion on the top is based on a pre existing bias in one way or the other. As Mike70 alluded to none of us have access to the states that will be used to select the no. 1 and I would think that a non measurable such as "presence" would not come into the decision. I would imagine that the main stat will be kickouts but this is stat is not a direct reflection on the GK as our poor MF showing under high ball has an effect on this stat. stature and presence I'd measure in who would I feel more comfortable seeing under a high ball, 5ft 11inch Shane Murphy or 6ft 4inch Shane Ryan, forr me it's Shane Ryan all day long. Donegal kicked 1 high ball into Michael Murphy yesterday and it was a goal, it's not a tactic we've seen much of this year but it's something that can happen during a tight game and for me it's Shane Ryan in goals all the way. Murphy will be OKish as a back up.

Some counties have star goalies while we have 2 equally good ones so maybe we need to make stars of both, risk is that as both can't play but need to make same commitment and so may walk, still I'd hope there is an understanding there, maybe they can improve each other tactics wise, etc, they are Kerrymen! Goalies also less likely to get injured or red carded but disaster if it happens and no backup, moreover if stars, i.e. Clux, Beggan and Morgan - Donegal's Patton put in a great shift vs Tyrone a few weeks ago, he was a professional soccer player in the League of Ireland with Derry City, Finn Harps and Sligo Rovers, now I'm no expert here but that ain't a bad CV?
