Very interesting draw - 6 matchups pit clubs v divisional sides and with the club championships running through October it will be difficult for the divisional sides to get together. The county championship games then run off in double quick time meaning injuries will hit hard, particularly those with smaller panels.
EK will be going for 3 in a row but without Spa this year who enter the fray in their own right. Difficult opening game for them as Stacks seem to be going well having won all three of their club championship games to date including an away victory over Dingle.
No back door so no room for off days or slow starts

East Kerry lose Spa from last year but gain Kilcummin. Will gain player's from either the crokes or legion next year Further confirmation that the East Kerry division has grown too big - has to be a limit to the collection of clubs (particularly D1 &1 clubs from the county leagues) making up any division within the county.

Can someone explain the “relegation” criteria, is it a simple case of all round one losing clubs in a playoff pot. That would be unfair considering that there is only one all club clash in round one.

Relegation based on club championship. Loser of Crokes v Legion goes down. Although as per Adam Moynihan on Twitter if one gets to the County Championship final then the other goes down.

Reaching the final has the benefit of giving you immunity from relegation. Somebody has to go down though, so process of elimination would leave just one candidate remaining. More of a worry for Legion than Crokes I'd say. Although Crokes should have too much for them anyway if it comes to a playoff.

Just read - to complicate things even more - should both Crokes and Legion make the Kerry SFC final, then Spa and Kerins O'Rahillys - the third-placed teams in the Senior Club Championship groups - would face off in the relegation playoff.

Crokes & Legion in a relegation playoff (assuming none make county final)? I've been more focused on the Intermediate Championship this year so haven't been following much Senior Club, but have they both been poor enough or is it some freaky vodoo stuff? All I can say from this though is that the CB will be hoping an East kerry team gets promoted or they might have to make a few key decisions for next year.

Crokes won a tight Donoghue cup match last year. The previous year, legion beat crokes in final. I agree crokes are favourites but legion have a chance if they get everyone fit.

Would have a puncher's chance then of an upset.

The reason East Kerry has got bigger is mainly due to the number of senior clubs being reduced to 8 in recent years which has pushed the likes of Kilcummin, Rathmore and very soon one of the big Killarney clubs down to intermediate. Should be more senior clubs as having only 8 by definition greatly strengthens some of the divisional board teams and lessens the chance of those 8 clubs that are senior of winning the championship. The fact that a team of the quality of Dr Crokes are in danger of being relegated is a sign that the balance is wrong.

Surely the sensible thing would be to have a 'Killarney' team in the county championship if one or other of Legion or Crokes are no longer one of the 'super 8'

There was a Killarney team in the recent past, in 1986 if i recall Austin Stacks beat a Killarney Divisional side in the County Final - that team just made up of Spa and Legion only.

Almost unthinkable that Crokes would lose their senior status and while they'd surely be favorites in a one off game anything could happen.
Then again would anyone in the 1950s or 60s have thought Mitchels would no be a non-senior club for so long!
Have Crokes ever been a non-senior club before?

Killarney won the county championship in 1983 with a team made up of Legion and Crokes. After Crokes went senior, Spa joined Legion to form the Killarney team for a few seasons.

Anyone know if the semi finals are going to be on tv or streamed ? Crazy to see crokes in a relegation fight but that's the way it goes. East kerry could be even more ridiculous next year to the detriment of the players in the area. Surely there would be room for 10 senior clubs maybe with 1 automatic relegation and a play-off with intermediate finalist and 9th place

Hermit - Crokes would lose their senior status and while they'd surely be favorites in a one off game anything could happen.
Like NK anything can happen when local rivals meet, both Legion and Rathmore have overturned the Crokes in recent O'Donoghue Cup games.
Crokes are not the force they were and are a far cry from all Ireland championship team of a few years ago - lot of that team are gone or have too many miles in the legs - it would apoear too that a lot of the younger generation in Killarney have filtered towards Spa and Legion as both appear strong underage, whereas Crokes are not.
They got a winable draw against West Kerry in the C'ship but depending on who they draw they might not make it past the next round.
Funnily enough the same is happening in Tralee with Strand Road... lot of kids heading to Stacks and Na Gaeil. The Narries could be in a similar position in few years - whereas the Rockies will be a serious force again in a few years.

Yeah, you suspect its only a matter of time before Na Gaeil emerge as a senior force given the underage structures now in place.
Like the above poster, I hope the club semi-finals and final might be available to view somewhere online.
I'd be fascinated to watch the regulation battle of Killarney too when it comes around to be paid, hopefully it will be streamed.

I thought when Mitchell's moved out of town they'd develope into a serious team with their new facilities I dont know why I thought that but they didn't, it seems to be a bit of a free for all in Tralee with regards to what team you play for.

Do EK have Kilgarvan this year? So would have Donal Down O'Sullivan and John Mark Foley to add in.
