What's next stage.
Just wondering how does the semi-final and relegation playoff fixs look.
I see Ardefert lost 2 games along with John Mitchels.
Is there a relegation playoff for the status.

i would imagine the bottom 4 teams in each group, play off in a "semi final" and then the two losers play off to see who goes down.
top 2 in each group, into 1/4s then.

Final day of action today in the group stages, apart from Group 4 which finished up last week.
Group 1:
Ballydonoghue - 4 pts, SD +18 Kilcummin - 4 pts, SD +16 John Mitchels - 0 pts, SD -11 Dromid Pearses 0 pts, SD -23
Kilcummin v Ballydonoghue - Both teams through to last 8 already. Winner gets a home quarter final, a draw would do Ballydonoghue. Dromid v John Mitchels - Both teams eliminated already. Dromid need a win to avoid relegation playoff, a win or draw would do Mitchels.
Group 2:
Glenflesk - 4 pts, SD +25 St Mary's - 2 pts, SD -3 Castleisland Desmonds, 2 pts, SD +19 Ardfert - 0 pts, SD -41
Desmonds v Glenflesk -
Any win is likely to do Desmonds, as even a 1 point win would mean the Marys need a minimum 23 point margin over Ardfert just to draw level on score difference. A 4 point win would 100% guarantee Desmonds a quarter final, as they would be at least ahead of Glenflesk on SD in event of a 3 way tie. Glenflesk are through unless there's a 28 point swing in score difference with the Marys. A 2 point loss or better will 100% guarantee qualification as that would keep them ahead of Desmonds if it was a 3 way tie.
Ardfert v St Mary's -
Ardfert need to beat St Marys and hope Desmonds get a draw at least, so that the head to head with St Marys would give them 3rd place and avoid relegation playoff. St Marys need to win and hope Desmonds don't win. SD not likely to be in their favour if the top 3 are level on 4 points. Mary's head to head win v Desmonds would only be deciding factor if both games are drawn.
Group 3:
Rathmore - 4 pts, SD +21 Beaufort - 2 pts, SD -1 Glenbeigh/Glencar, 2 pts, SD +3 Currow, 0 pts, SD -23
Rathmore v Glenbeigh/Glencar -
A win, draw, or anything up to an 8 point loss would put Rathmore through even if Beaufort win the other game. Glenbeigh need to beat Rathmore by 9 points just to draw level with them on score difference if it comes down to a 3 way tie. A narrow win for Glenbeigh would leave them vulnerable to Beaufort making up the 4 point gap that separates them at the moment. Beaufort's H2H win over Glenbeigh would only be a deciding factor if both games are drawn.
Beaufort v Currow - Worse case scenario for Beaufort would be a 9 point win for Glenbeigh, as they would then need to beat Currow by 13 points just to draw level with the top 2. So a 14 point win would 100% guarantee Beaufort qualification. A narrow win for Glenbeigh would mean Beaufort need to have a 5 point better winning margin over Currrow than Glenbeigh's margin over Rathmore. Beaufort's H2H win over Glenbeigh would only be the deciding factor if both games are drawn.
Group 4:
Na Gaeil - 6 pts, SD +20 An Ghaeltacht - 3 pts, SD +1 Milltown/Castlemaine - 3 pts, SD -12 Laune Rangers - 0 pts, SD -9
Group completed. Na Gaeil had a 100% record and will have a home quarter final.
An Ghaeltacht's head to head game with Milltown/Castlemaine was a draw, so Gaeltacht qualified based on a better overall score difference.

Anyone at the Na Gaeil game report on whether Okunbor featured and if he did what sort of performance he turned in? He was listed as number 17 in the match program.
Should be two good semi-finals I'd imagine.
At the moment I'd predict a Rathmore versus Na Gaeil final with Na Gaeil to win the final.

Castleisland 4-11 An Gaeltacht 3-13 HT 2-6 2-7
A scorcher on the sideline and a scorcher on the field. One team on top, then another. Uncertainty about the outcome until the final whistle. Great point scoring and a feast of goals of every hue. It looked as if it might go to extra time and few would quibble with that. But it is said you get what you deserve and from that standpoint the glory belongs to Castleisland and the heartbreak for An Gaeltacht . Heartbreak of course commands no market value.
The opening was lively with An Gaeltacht more impressive with Brian O'Beaghlaoich, playing impressively at midfield all through, scoring the first point, a long range effort. He got two in total. But then Castleisland manufactured a fine goal against the run of play. After an interchange of passes , Luka Brosnan, with the number four on his back, struck a fine shot to the net. He followed it up with a point. Not too long afterwards, Tomas Lynch on the right wing , made all, as they say in racing, and cracked another one home. He was a torment all through at wing forward for Castleisland. Gaeltacht reacted , nobody more furiously than Eanna O'Conchuir. He started at midfield but spent more time in the forwards. He won possession and unleashed a cannon ball to the net. Another cannon ball of his came close to blowing the cross bar to smithereens, and perhaps Castleisland chances as well. In any case , shortly afterwards Oigi O'Se, brother of Tomas, goaled.
The second half had scarcely resumed when Tomas O'Se emulated the brother and goaled. He scored 1-2 in all. Matters were looking good for the boys back west but there were more goals to come. The ball darted around the Gaeltacht's square and the inrushing Luka Brosnan fisted it home. At the start of the fourth quarter Castleisland introduced Tomas Hickey for ? Pat Fitzgerald. Pat ,nominally at corner forward , roamed far and wide productively until he had no more to give. Ah ,Tomas. Blighted by injuries all through his career, he showed after his introduction why he was once a revered figure by his club. He kicked an exquisite point but there was better to come. Before that happened, it looked as if An Gaeltacht might hold out with a one point lead, the likelihood of that engineered above all by the magnificent Eanna O'Conchuir. Not to be. That little wizard, Tomas Hickey, punted a delightful effort forward to the goal advancing Adam O'Donoghue. He rounded his man and scored the seventh goal of the afternoon. Eanna put a kickable free wide but compensated immediately afterwards with a glorious long range effort. Try as they did An Gaeltacht just could not get the equaliser.
Castleisland goalie, Steve Bartlett , converted three place balls.
There were several fine individual performances but , for me, Eanna O'Conhuuir, was a man apart . He was massive and kicked 1-5 for good measure. Worth a look, Jack?
Cost me ten euro. Worth every cent.

Consent Kerry Subscribe GAA Thirteen-point haul from Carmody fires Na Gaeil to intermediate decider
Damian Stack October 16 2021 09:00 PM
KERRY PETROLEUM COUNTY INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL SEMI-FINAL
Na Gaeil 1-19
Castleisland Desmonds 0-11
It didn’t quite start with a bang, nevertheless it ended with somewhat of a whimper as what was shaping up to be an entertainingly competitive fixture in Austin Stack Park petered out tamely by the end with Na Gaeil victorious by eleven points.
For much of the opening exchanges the notion that one team would run out such comfortable winners would seem fanciful with defences looking very much on top in a cagey, if engaging, encounter.
Early on it even looked as though Castleisland Desmonds might have been marginally the better side and they did open out a two-point lead by the first water break – 0-4 to 0-2.
Na Gaeil, though, seemed to have the ability to turn it on as and when required. A sign of a good team, albeit a quality that ends up with them making life a little more difficult for themselves than is strictly necessary at times.
Having gone three points down early in the second quarter, Jerome Stack’s men really thundered into the game for the rest of the half. The axis of Dan Goggin at centre-forward and Darragh Carmody in the inside line proved invaluable to the green and white as they linked up wonderfully and consistently for the Killeen outfit.
Three on the spin from the hugely impressive Carmody levelled it up and, while Desmonds went back in front with a point by Seán Lynch, the cracks were beginning to show somewhat for the Castleisland men.
A further point by Carmody levelled it up and Diarmuid O’Connor – quiet by his high standards up to them – fired his men clear on the stroke of the half hour having claimed a Steve Bartlett kick-out.
For the Desmonds to go in at the break behind – albeit by the minimum 0-7 to 0-6 – having looked so impressive early on, with guys like Brian Leonard and Luka Brosnan standing out, probably stung and they certainly started the second half well with a pair of points from Thomas Hickey (one a free) to retake the initiative.
Still there was a sense that Na Gaeil were just biding their time. True it was worrying when they kicked three early wides in the half – one from a free and one from a mark – but the fact was they were creating chances, and again they showed that ability to play really well in patches and by doing so assumed near total control over the game.
In the space of less than two minutes Na Gaeil retook the lead once more with a trio of points by Carmody – who bagged thirteen in all, seven from play, by the end – to go 0-10 to 0-8 clear by 40 minutes. A point by Goggin on 41 was the least he deserved for his efforts and, while Desmonds staunched the bleeding somewhat with a pointed free from Bartlett, Na Gaeil’s blood was very much up.
A goal from Diarmuid O’Connor – now very much coming into his own – fired Na Gaeil six clear by the second water break, 1-12 to 0-9, and from there it was very much game over for the Desmonds.
Tommy Horan’s men desperately needed to recover their goal-scoring touch from a week ago and, while they had a couple of outside chances including one from Luke Lyons, they never looked all that likely to find the back of Devon Burns’ net.
Instead Na Gaeil pushed on showing a real ruthless streak. A pair of points from James O’Connor on 52 and 58 proved that they weren’t wholly reliant on Carmody for scores.
The result is bound to be hugely disappointing for Desmonds, all the more so after the high of six days previous against An Ghaeltacht. The reality is, however, that they never truly got going in the game to the same extent as they did on home soil.
A lot of that, obviously, is down to the opposition. Na Gaeil are a very fine side and having been at this stage of the competition last year (played this year) they were in no mood to let another final appearance go abegging.
When they got their dander up it was really impressive stuff from Stack’s men. Still the impression one gets is that there was still some more left in the tank, particularly if Jack Barry and Diarmuid O’Connor can really hit their straps. Just the sort of place you’d want to be before a county final.
Oh and they’ll probably and hopefully have Stefan Okunbor back for that game against either Beaufort or Rathmore too, after he was a late withdrawal from this game.
All in a all not a bad position to be in. Not a bad position at all.
CASTLEISLAND DESMONDS: Steve Bartlett (0-1f), Tadgh O’Connell, Gearóid Leonard, Luka Brosnan (0-1), Brian Leonard, Tadhg O’Shea (0-1), Maurice Hickey, Adam Donoghue, Adam O’Donoghue (0-1), Tomás Lynch, Luke Lyons, Seán Lynch (0-1), Micheál Walsh, Cian W O’Connor (0-1f), Thomas Hickey (0-3, 1f) Subs: Dominick Finnegan (0-1) for T O’Shea, 43, PJ Curtin (0-1) for S Lynch, 43, Conor O’Sullivan for M Walsh, 43, Kieran Brennan for A O’Donoghue 52, Graham O’Connor for C O’Sullivan, 60

Na Gaeil 1-19 Castleisland 0-11 HT 0-7 0-6
This was an interesting , lively affair in the first half and very evenly contested. Stefan was listed to play at right wing forward but did not appear.
Matters were even at midfield with Luka Brosnan and Adam O'Donoghue giving as good as they got against Jack Barry and Diarnuid O'Connor. Jack hit one terrible wide but followed up with a massive point. Thomas Hickey played the full game for Castleisland but was closely marshalled by a tight Na Gaeil defence. He kicked two from play and one from a free but the best forward on the field in that half and indeed for the entire match was Darragh Carmody playing at right corner forward for the Na Gaeil. My final tally for him may not be entirely accurate but he got about six from play and about the same amount from frees. A one point differential at half time so a close second half beckoned. That was the hope.
After half time, Thomas Hickey pointed a great free and had a fine one from play also. Not too long afterwards Thomas Lynch, not as impish as he was in the Gaeltacht game, made good ground, sent it across the face of the goal for the inrushing Adam O'Donoghue to connect, but stretch as he could Adam was unable to make the vital contact. A goal then would have put Castleisland four up and might have put them on the highway to the final. That was as good as it got for them.
Na Gaeil got progressively stronger at midfield, Niall O'Mahony and Andrew Barry exerted a dominant stranglehold in defence and up front James O'Connor, Dan Goggin and, above all, Darragh Carmody began to freewheel. In a short space of time Na Gaeil opened a up a four point gap and it became apparent at an early stage in that half that Castleisland were taking on too much water to stay afloat, not helped by some erratic kicks out by their goalie. If there was still any hope among their more optimistic followers that too was quickly extinguished. Na Gaeil won a free in front of the stand about forty metres out. The free taker saw Diarmuid O'Connor make his move, all of us on the stand saw Diarmuid make his move, the only people who didn't see Diarmuid make his move were the Castlisland defenders. There is a price to pay for that lack of vigilance. Diarmuid made his move, collected the free and waltzed through unmolested , and cracked it home. Diarmuid is good at creeping forward like that. In truth, it was not the defining moment of the match. It had been decided by a flurry of Na Gaeil points prior to that.
After Diarmuid's goal Castleisland did launch a good attack and managed to put Adam O'Donoghue clear. Unfortunately for him, the greasy ball squirted away from him and with it whatever faint hopes they had of rising from the dead.
Brian Leonard and Maurice had good moments in Castleisland's defence and up front Thomas Lynch and Thomas were best.
The glitter we saw from Castleisland last Sunday was too seldom in evident tonight. Na Gaeil can take the credit for that rather than Castleisland failing to reach their potential.

I just watched the Na Gaeil v Desmonds game on 247 TV.
A few observations...
Hard to believe that Desmonds were a point up after about 5 minutes of the second half. Na Gaeil gradually turned the screw and Bartlett in goals for Desmonds came under huge pressure with his kickouts as Na Gaeil cut off his options. He was forced to go long and the middle third of Na Gaeil mopped up everything. Diarmuid's languid style can suddenly morph into an incisive runs and one of these runs cut through for the goal while the Desmonds were asleep to the danger from the quick free.
Na Gaeil have a few more scoring options other than Carmody and it looks like there is more scores in Goggin and O'Connor the number 12.
Desmonds never gave up but Na Gaeil had their number from about the 40th minute.
Andrew Barry did his chances of a call up by JOC no harm.
Na Gaeil 'will be hard bet' as they say. Teams will struggle to score more than 12 points against them.
There was an interesting 2 minutes in the first half as Desmonds prodded and probed for an opening against Na Gaeils defence that was set up just line Tyrone. Eventually Jack Barry got his hand to the ball and turned it over. Paddy Tally would approve.
Na Gaeil also like to kick it long out of defense from the turnover. It didnt always stick inside but when it does they will put scores on the board.
The final will be interesting.
Perfect picture and interesting commentary. Thanks to all.

Beaufort beat Rathmore today in the 2nd semi 1-16 to 1-10. Kieran Dennehy with the goal. I think I heard in a recent commentary that he's a son of former Kerry player Pa Dennehy.
Only 6 weeks since Beaufort played Na Gaeil in the 2020 semi final. The form of the very recent 2020 campaign also showing in the Junior Premier grade with losing finalist Gneeveguilla back in the decider again.
Beaufort have taken out the last 2 East Kerry teams Kilcummin and Rathmore, so the East division will be even more formidable next year when the Legion or Crokes are added to the mix.

I was disappointed with Mark Ryan as I thought a man who was training with the Kerry seniors would have showed a lot more.

Sure how many players are missing out on playing County Championship just due to the shear size of East Kerry I wonder? It's like a county team at this stage. Maybe a rethink of all club championships (especially at Senior) might be needed. Back to the intermediate championship, disappointed that Rathmore didn't win, but ultimately they were beaten by a better team on the day.

There should be limits to the number of clubs making up a divisional side. The divisional structure was designed to give players from smaller/junior clubs a chance of winning a county championship. The current oversized division that is East Kerry does not fulfil its primary objective as the majority of players making up the division are not getting the opportunity they deserve. 10 clubs with 20 players (some have a lot more) would give a pool of over 200 players with roughly 30 being in the panel and probably less than 25 getting game time. Its not just senior level that this applies to but also the more vulnerable minor and u 20 grades - I say vulnerable in the sense that keeping lads interested and active in the GAA at that age is more difficult and once lost most of these players stay lost to the detriment of the club. The voting system at county level probably makes it difficult for a decision like this to get approval at convention as winning takes precedence over keeping small clubs vibrant and alive. Difficult to tell the 170 discarded clubs players that they matter when the small club comes calling for a Division 5 league game in front of 30 people.

Anyone at the Na Gaeil game report on whether Okunbor featured and if he did what sort of performance he turned in? He was listed as number 17 in the match program. Should be two good semi-finals I'd imagine. At the moment I'd predict a Rathmore versus Na Gaeil final with Na Gaeil to win the final. well Na Gaeil are there now, I fancy them to win St Brendans District Board need to strike very soon to win a county senior championship while Na Gaeil are on board!

I hope the Currow game is pushed back for as long as possible to allow Mike ‘Buff’ McCarthy get back to full fitness. He has been plagued by injury this year and I think that’s why we are seeing Currow in a relegation play off. If they can get him into some sort of shape for this game that he will have a big say in this play off, as they say the old dog for the hard road.
One would have to worry about the age profile of this Currow team though. Mike ‘BUFF’ McCarthy is 36 next February as is goalkeeper Shane ‘the cat’ O’Leary. Then in midfield Scanlon is about 46 so they certainly aren’t getting any younger.
The winning of the game will all come down to THE BUFF and his world class free taking abilities. Right leg or left leg it doesn’t matter and he also has a goal in him too. It would be fairytale stuff if he was to save Currow from relegation.

Currow are doomed I’m afraid. Ardfert will have their hurlers back for one last push to avoid being banished to the Junior and Bag will find himself picking the ball out of the net over and over again . They’re an ageing team and Buff or no buff won’t make a word of difference .

He was finished 5 years ago, they would be better off with buff from kilgarvan

I hope the Currow game is pushed back for as long as possible to allow Mike ‘Buff’ McCarthy get back to full fitness. He was finished 5 years ago, they would be better off with buff from kilgarvan On what basis is he finished? He has been their main forward the last 5 years. I wouldn’t be replying on Mike ‘the hammer’ Hannafin to pull them out of a hole. Scanlon and buff are the only players worth their salt in that team.

So, on the Currow team you have The Buff, The Cat and The Hammer . I presume we are talking about humans here. Anybody else we should be told about.

As far as I know game is going ahead, both teams seem to be missing big players if the rumours are true which is very hard on the players involved and the match itself
