Good performance today - Clare are a very good team - pity there are no qualifiers as I think they could have gone a long way. A poster above saying to put Paul M back on the wing ...... that would be ok but we cannot have him and Brian o B in same back line, and especially not on the same side. Please have a look at the Dublin league game first half - it was so obvious that they were being targeted. I think Breen has to stay at wing back, and I would go for Morley behind him. Its tough on Paul but I think he could be a superb option off the bench when teams are tiring. Gavin C was on a very good player today - he would get on most teams. I thought Gavin did quite well on him- would not be moving him from centre back. I thought Paudie C was MOTM. He is the missing link over the last few years - his ability to turn defence into attack is unreal - superb passer of the ball and always has the head up looking for the best options. Paul G gets a rough ride on here - he did well again today and his pass for the last goal was superb. In a tight finish I would always want him to be the man getting the ball. Must say I totally agree on the defensive point, I also would have Morley in for BoB behind Breen. That is a physically strong back line with pace also. On PG, great balance and pass but I think he is at the beginning of the end of his county career - he doesnt have the legs, tho he has the brain. He has just about threaded water in all league games and again last night and there is no doubt he will struggle later in the summer against the racehorses of Donegal and Dublin. One positive with him starting is that it means we have the man that is excluded K Spillane guaranteed to make a real impact when he comes in, as evidenced again kast night. I am not sure PG ever really relied on his "legs". Unless of course you mean his agility as in ability to turn.

Job done! Every day is a school day and we take our lessons and move on. Clare may be out of the Championship but they’ll be quite a few sore bodies in that county for days to come! Indeed when the Kerry men hit the Clare players were repeatedly getting hurt so the conditioning of those Kerry players is now something serious to behold. Bigger tests await but probably not in Munster but Kerry are on track and getting ready to rock.

Save for the rare cameo, he has been largely ineffectual in all games this season but you and yours will point to his great half of football in the final against Dublin 2 years ago. We will agree to disagree on the matter.

Or is that a more generic comment along the lines of 'he is not the player that he was'?

While the margin of victory was similar, I did not get the same sense of elation from last night's match as I did from the Tyrone match. Perhaps it was because it was Tyrone, perhaps it was because of the deluge of goals in that league match but I had a flat feeling at the end last night. Only a curmudgeon I suppose would moan after a seventeen point victory but , while we started and finished strongly, there were long periods in the game when we were sloppy and ponderous unlike most of our league campaign when we were incisive, decisive and when we transitioned from defence to attack with long accurate foot passes in lightning fashion. Last night, our attack was often blunt against, in spite of their exploits in the NFL, a moderate defensive unit. You must understand Clare is not the gold standard, as much as I admire them and their manager and of course it is a shame that there is not back door for them. But such is the wisdom of our betters.
I thought Dara Moynihan epitomised the difference between the Kerry we saw last night and the Kerry we saw during the NFL. From a very early stage it was clear that this tornado was not at the races, committing about three fouls in quick succession, and it was no surprise that he was replaced. Why Dara was not present in body last night is a mystery to me. Who knows what plays on a player's mind. It will be a great surprise if he does not bring his usual energy to the Tipp game. His lack of energy reflected to a large extent the lack of energy in Kerry as a whole for large swathes of last night's match.
Kieran Fitzgibbon seemed to be overcome by a bout of anxiety in the second half. Kicked a couple over the line and two that were too short. He may feel a little pressure in the coming weeks from Shane Ryan.
Jason and BOB continued their good form while Tom O'Sullvan is still not the Tom of 2019. Mike Breen continues to enhance his stature and Gavin White is emerging as a key man . It was heart warming to see him upscuttle an opponent with a solid shoulder. Indeed, that was a feature of most of our players, hurting opponents in the tackle. Gavin Crowley struggled alarmingly against Eoin Cleary. While allowing for the fact that Eoin appears to be a very good player, he was given far too much space for too many of his scores. I was hoping that management wold have switched Gavin with BOB who is very fast and tenacious and would I feel have been a very difficult opponent for the Clare man.
I understand people's misgivings about David Moran at this stage of his career, citing lack of pace and poor decision making. However, there are some opponents against whom David can still do well. I felt he played well last night. If we get over Tipperary I feel he would be our best foil for Ian Maguire. After that , I am not sure.
Like Gavin White, Paudie Clifford is now one of our major players. One thing about Paudie is that towards the end of a game he appears to be puffing fairly hard. I am not sure whether that is due to not having a reservoir of fitness build up over the years unlike other players who have been around longer or whether it is some physiological peculiarity he has got. Of course it maybe due to the acreage he covers in every match.
Paul Geaney , as always, even in this late stage of his Kerry tenure, provides those subtle touches which can be decisive. Killian is probably better coming off the bench, invariably kicking a few over.
I hope Sean O'Shea and David Clifford did not sustain serious injuries. Good night Irene if those boys become unavailable.
I do not have Sky, so had to visit a friend to see the match. Are the commentators always as hopeless as they were last night? No effort made at a running commentary, just meaningless jabbering. Several yellow cards were brandished but the two lads didn't seem to have a clue as to why.

The alternative is starting K Spillane but that leaves us with little to no attacking uplift from the bench as Tony Brosnan probably needs a full league campaign to become that player, next year and beyond.

Like others I had no sense of elation after yesterdays win and this set me thinking. Clare were knocking on the door of promotion to Division 1 and I think we disrespect them thinking a good Kerry team will do a Miltown Malbay on them as we dance our way to a showdown with Dublin.
Defence performed well yesterday in the main, our kick out came under a lot of pressure and KF should have learnt a lot from the game - yes Shane Ryan will be nipping at his heels for the No 1 jersey but competition is good.
David Moran showed his value to Kerry and will start every game this year if fit - he will finish none but that is father time nipping at his heels. Those calling for his omission undervalue what he brings to the team on and off the ball.
The forwards were a little off but still put up a handsome score - my old bogey of scores from chances raised it head for me and we missed too many opportunities which mattered little yesterday but could in a tighter game.
Our biggest strength this year is our bench and we are close to the point where subs coming in are every bit as good as those they are replacing - no wonder PK is calling for 7 subs. This strength in depth gives the potential to kill teams in the final quarter and this is where we have lost to Dublin in recent years.

2 or 3 posters have said that Tom O’Sullivan was rusty or not at his usual levels. I’d disagree, I thought he blotted out Tubridy keeping him scoreless who is Clare’s best forward along with Cleary. That’s exactly what we need from Tom. If he can eliminate one of the opposition’s best forwards every game then I’ll be very very happy. I’m not too bothered about him doing much in the attack. He is one of the best man markers in the country which should never be overlooked.

as usual, far too much negativity here. Clare are a fine fine side and the toughest game we could have gotten at this stage of the competition so to come out with a 17 point win, means it was a very good day at the office.
i was expecting us to win by 4-6 points so very happy with the result which after last year, is all that matters.

Totally agree clare are at least as good as any of tipp, cork, anyone in leinster bar dublin and all but the top 3 in Ulster. Could we have played better yes but if we had beaten them by another ten points what difference would it have made! We won the game by first water break. We now have a good few more players playing in the top player bracket in 2019 I think we had o shea,Clifford Tom sull and o brien up there. We now have o shea, 2 cliffords , o connor , white and Jason foley. Tom sull will get back there and hopefully o brien will aswell.

Clare are a good side but they weren't yesterday and you have to point out the areas for improvement. The scoreline was due to a late flourish against a tired team. We kicked some bad wides and were under pressure on the restarts. Plenty to work on but to call it a good performance is not accurate and its not negative to call that out.

Clare are a credit considering the small pick they have from small clubs in West Clare. Ennistymon is probably the biggest town with about 1000 population. Their pick would be that of Feale Rangers and Shannon Rangers combined. Maybe smaller. They are punching above their weight. If they played in Connacht ....as most counties west of the Shannon do....they would be picking off the Connaght Championship every so often like Roscommon do.

They like roscommon Galway and Tyrone they met a better conditionioned coached and in particular a team with better players and bench.

A number of years ago, I enjoyed the most wonderful experience of attending a wedding reception in Dromoland Castle. The food was to die for, free bar, all the bells and whistles. I have never experienced a day out like this since.
The Tyrone match was our Dromoland wedding. These are rare events to be enjoyed. They won't come around too often, and anything afterwards will never quite meet the same level of satisfaction.
We won the match. We put up a big score. We're in the next round. We're 1 step further down the road than last year. We'll Drive on.

Gavin White is the real deal. An absute thoroughbred. Sean O Shea is in the same league. Kerry need to win a shed load of All Irelands with the talent we have currently. White has always looked blue chip to me, might just be about to really take off

DC 84 you are right of course to acknowledge the positives from the Clare match. Taken in isolation it was a very pleasing performance but you must realise that Dublin are the benchmark. On a given day, you need to ask was the performance good enough to beat the Dubs? Would we get away with sub par individual performances against the Dubs? How costly would mistakes have been against the Dubs e.g. that period when Kieran was rattled and kicked two out over the line and kicked two too short? How much damage would have Ciaran Kilkenny or Con O’Callaghan wrought consequent on the slack marking of Gavin Crowley? We are title aspirants and therefore must evaluate our team and individual performances accordingly. This is the brutal reality.

Ah I get it alright I think though we also have to acknowledge the players mentality going into playing dublin in an ai final would be a lot more clued in. It's only natural that they would drop a bit when 10 or 12 points up on a team we usually beat handy enough in killarney. I just think we and people in general are always so quick to point to the negatives rather than take a more balanced view. I'd rather a win like that with a few weak areas that can be worked on than if we won by 30 points or 4 or 5 points either!!

I've been guilty of over hyping this team particularly after the Donegal game last year so I'm less inclined to fawn over ever performance now. Lots to be positive about but of the games played so far for me it was the least impressive in regards intensity and accuracy and that's just how I see it.

Tubridy got Clare's goal. Tom O’Sullivan had been taken off by that time. Yes your right. Tom was marking the in form player in the league and the all time league top scorer and done what he usually does, completely took him out of the game. To me that’s exactly what we need from him. I would love to see him in the half back line but he is one of the best at what he does in the full back line. Gavin white is turning out to be a top class defender. Great to see Micheal burns get a goal. Is Tony Brosnan a better option then Tommy Walsh?

I think if Kerry are to beat Dublin it will be something like 1975 when a young Kerry team caught fire and the Dubs were complacent.
Is it likely that Dublin will be complacent against Kerry? Unlikely to say the least.
Kerry are better in 2021 that in previous years. Paudie Clifford is a big addition and also Mike Breen looks to have the goods. DOC is finding his feet at midfield.
When Shane Ryan returns Kerrys possession from kickouts will improve.
The thing that concerns me the most and its the reason why i dont think Kerry will beat Dublin is our inability to close out tight games against the top teams.
You dont have to look too far for examples....
Monaghan were rocked to the core when DC equalised in Clones in 2018. They lost the kickout. A point and Kerry could have stolen it and set themselves up to win the group v Kildare in the last game. Moran balloons a hail mary into the sky and the ref blows full time. Drawn game. Monaghan and Galway advanced.
The 2019 season gave us further evidence of Kerrys inability to show cool heads in the last few minutes.
When Kerry a point ahead v Donegal in injury time a Kerry player got himself redcarded for retaliation in front of Joe McQuillan. Furtunately there wasnt enough time for Donegal to capitalise on 15 v 14 and Kerry got away with a draw.
Kerry failed to close out the 2019 final v Dublin when a point up and with an extra man. Again wrong options taken by Kerry players in possession. Dublin would have won the game if the roles were reversed.
Kerry also lost a league final to Mayo in the final stretch that year in a game that was there for the taking.
We dont need reminding of the final minutes v Cork last year in extra time with Kerry two points ahead. Not once but twice was the momentum handed to Cork by unforced errors.
So who are the 3 or 4 players you would want to have possession for Kerry in the final stages of a big close game. Sean oShea is one obviously but after that it gets tricky.
We dont have the cool shrewd heads yet like we have with Declan, Colm, Darragh etc.
This is why i dont think Kerry will beat Dublin in a tight finish.
Its probably too much to hope for a repeat of 1975.
Another thing that needs to be tackled in Davids tendancy to shoot from the left without composing himself and taking a hop. He takes a secord or two when shooting off his right and manages a hop as he surveys his options. Some of his shot selection off his left is poor. I am sure it will be worked on.
