Lots of teams without Paul Murphy. I can’t see that happening and nor should it.

Strange that the 2 Spillanes always play well but are rarely selected. Killian is looking for a place in a position a good few guys are putting their hands up for, but Adrian for me is a perfect fit at midfield with Diarmuid O'Connor

Adrian has a bit of boldness that we need.

I’d go; 1. Ryan 2. Morley 3. Foley 4. O’Sullivan 5. Breen 6. Crowley 7. White 8. O’Connor 9. Barry 10. Moynihan 11. O’Shea 12. O’Brien 13. Geaney 14. Clifford 15. Clifford I'd be happy with that team. Gets my vote too.

Lots of teams without Paul Murphy. I can’t see that happening and nor should it. Paul Murphy has never really let Kerry down and is a tremendous warrior. Moreover, his never beaten for lack of heart or effort but only occasionally by better and stronger men (this can happen) who normally occupy a blue jersey in recent years it must be said. He’s not alone I hear you cry, but Dublin have been turning what we perceive as one of our strengths into a weakness for a number of years – they’ve done what Kerry used to do and hammered the hammer! We must adapt and have other options, we must try and upgrade if the upgrade is there. If Paul starts – great but if not then I will be excited to see if Breen could be a serious upgrade in the making. Whatever the case, its great to have serious options coming off the bench.

Killian is looking for a place in a position a good few guys are putting their hands up for, but Adrian for me is a perfect fit at midfield with Diarmuid O'Connor I fully agree with half of your post (Killian) but am unsure about the other half as yet. Not saying I disagree,I am open minded. I think it would be very difficult to leave Killian out based on what we have seen since the 2019 drawn All Ireland. This year he got a nice few points against Galway, was as good as any forward against Dublin before his withdrawal at HT but hasn't been seen since. The big question is.. Who would he start instead of? Is Stephen O Brien still guaranteed a start? Pre the league I would have said yes but now I am unsure. Thus is more of a compliment to the other forwards than putting Stephen down as I am a fan of his. I don't know enough to go picking between Ryan & Fitzgibbon. Ditto between picking 6 from Tom Sullivan*, Foley*, White*, Crowley*, Murphy, Begley, Morley & Breen and 2 from O Connor*, Barry, Moran & Spillane. I am willing to go out on a limb and "pick" Moynihan*, O Shea* & P. Clifford* in the half forward line and D Clifford*, Spillane & Geaney in the FF line. *= those who I feel will start. I would hate to be the one making the decisions but thankfully PK knows more about football than me. I am glad that I am undecided about so many players, especially those who I rate highly (Murphy, Moran, O Brien, Killian, Geaney). Competition at training must intense, this can only be a good thing for us supporters.

An outside observer, I'm wondering what is the view of Breen in Kerry? I haven't seen all of the games he played in the league. I think Paul Murphy and Stephen O'Brien would be great players to bring off the bench. There seems to be great competition in the forwards as most teams would have Killian Spillane as their go to full forward line player. I think he is good enough to start. I've been very impressed with Jason Foley this season. he looks to have strengthened up again and is playing with great confidence, he is definitely worth persevering with at full back and if Morley plays I'm sure he could be just as effective in the corner. Ultimately Kerry look to be going for a man on man game which means the defenders will probably need to get used to switching from full back to corner to wing etc. I think the increased mobility in midfield without Moran is crucial (no offence to Moran who is a wonderful footballer but more of an old style midfielder imo) and DOC has looked excellent in the league. Again with Jack Barry, Moran, Spillane all pushing for a place to partner him the competition is really strong. Fingers crossed Kerry can continue to keep all of their players fit and they look set for a big championship, lessons learned from last season.

I sense we are selecting here based on emotion and hopefully PK & co get it right from what goes on behind closed doors.
Must be hard telling veterans 'we won't be starting with you', only yesterday were they pushing vets out.
It looks like we now have the pipeline Éamonn oft alluded to and much as I hate saying it, but still love to be able to say it, with the way our attack are going about their business, it is hard to see who else can put it to the Dubs for the foreseeable future.
That in itself isn't a great sign for the game overall, i.e. the resources required to get that pipeline, and then the vital luck factor of having the talent. I wonder if there is a correlation here with the fortunes in NK. I mean it is sad that so many teams will have out of the championship by 5pm on the first Sunday, and bearing in mind the backdoor arguably helps strong counties more.
So Dubs have one threat while Treaty have half a dozen and with so many, the possibility of an upset increases, and so we could be in for some serious ground hurling.
On a sobering note, a well placed snout tells me we may have two another years before this covid crack tapers off.
Still we will have our few games and once we behave that can only improve please God. Like Dwyer used to say, we only pray when our backs are to the wall!

Seemingly, Clare have a very big midfield pairing . It maybe a day for David Moran.

Huge respect for Clare and their achievement on the football field, but parking the conservatism, you would expect nothing less than a ten point victory, yes they will compete for periods, but there is no way they could hold our forward line, so before anyone gets excited, the bookies have the handicap at -12. So for Kerry it’s all about delivering a complete performance, no excuses, well within the team and panel. #championchip

I said it before, this is the best team we ever had, maybe the best one anyone ever had - time will tell, let's get one in a row and take it from there. Hyperbole much? A team better than these... 1. Seamus Moynihan, Three Ó Sés, Tom O'Sullivan, Mike McCarthy, Paul Galvin, Kieran Donaghy, Gooch, Declan O'Sullivan, etc. 2. John O'Keeffe, Paidí, the Horse, Tommy Doyle, Jacko, Pat Spillane, the Bomber, Ogie, John Egan, Mikey Sheehy, Ger Power, etc.

You could equally say they are one of the worst Kerry teams ever seen as they have won 0 of their last 3 championship matches (when did that last happen?).
But that would be stupid talk too.

John O'Keeffe, Paidí, the Horse, Tommy Doyle, Jacko, Pat Spillane, the Bomber, Ogie, John Egan, Mikey Sheehy, Ger Power, etc. If the above are your 2 best ever until now, which one of the two is best? I saw a good bit of both of the above and though I was old enough, I wouldn't consider myself a good judge. I would also be mindful that fellas today have more support, so they have that advantage that I am factoring in, although bearing in mind our opponents also have such resources, and didn't we almost topple the best of 'em when not playing to our potential on the day, i.e. draw with Dubs in AI final. Still and as much as I hate saying it, I believe the current panel shade it even as it stands today, and may go on to open a bit of daylight, not alone with the two above, but with all counties, maybe even including hurling. Though not unduly influenced by what I just reread in MOM's 'From Dún Síon to Croke Park', I note his, if philosophical comment that 'todays would hold their own', and which was published in 2004. Now I don't know if MOM was factoring in the resources aspect but look, it is only the view of one disciple and I did I not say 'potentially the all time best' and while not covering myself, they have it all to prove. Another factor is management - Dwyer was able to craft a team like no other, well so far IMO - Horse wasn't the fastest and Deenihan wasn't stylish, and they are Dwyer's words, but he still crafted the team so that any weakness was compensated through improvisation. Ogie was hardly a heavy hitter, probably never hit - no player was or ever will be all things, though Clifford may be as close as it gets, and which also raises the evolving advantage of that past masters, Maurice coaching DC and Gooch v DGal in 2014 AI final. What sways me is that there is GAA genius in the current brigade to a man and that extends across the 20+ of the panel, and where a new laddo shows every 6 months or so. The jury is out and I rest my case your honour.

I like WhosInMidfields team. Over the last few seasons our defence has been our Achilles heel - so continuing to play those same players will more than likely give the same result. We have been great at attacking from defence, but not so hot at the primary job of keeping it tight.
It was obvious in the Dublin league game first half that Dublin targeted the Kerry right wing where Paul and BoB were stationed. Both are fine footballers, but both are on the lighter side and not outright defenders. I would prefer Morley and Breen there - way stronger physically and in the air (the latter will be critical if we manage to go all the way), and more inclined to stay at home and mind the house that the other 2. Paul first in for me after that.
Killian in for SoB for me up front - I think he has a real killer instinct. I like Adrian in midfield - he reminds me of Ambrose of old - tough as nails. However Jack is also a good option - just wish he was more physical and imposed himself more.
I think DM and Tommy Walsh will also have a big say in proceedings before the year is out - great options off the bench.

While not 100% convinced by our defence I do think our perceived weakness there is overstated at times. In the drawn game in 2019 we conceded 1-16 against dublin which isnt terrible against such a strong forward line. Rock got 3 from play ,6 frees and a 45 Mannion got 2 and o callaghan got 1 that's 6 points from play their forwards got. Mcaffrey of course scored 1-3 but that's not the defenders fault surely?
We failed to win that game at the other end imo in the first half geaney missed a sitter and a peno , Clifford dropped 2 short and missed one or two others that he would expect to get. Our forwards left 2-3 or 4 behind them in first half alone.

How credible is the notion that Gooch has all those who came after him wanting to be forwards, hence the imbalance between an over supply of attackers and an undersupply of defenders in the pipeline, ala 'what do ya think of that Joe Brolly?' If it is credible then God only knows how DC will impact the next crop - the pipeline will be genetically modified for ever? PS Hope Breen fans are happy, hope they will be even happier this time tomorrow night.

5 players who started the 2019 AI Final 1st game on the bench.. it just goes to show PK is willing to trust the players on form. If these group of players progress as well as they have been, it'll be scary to think the squad depth we'll have in 1/2 years. It may be far too soon to say yet but I really think from 2022-2030 Kerry will dominate football and win the majority of AI titles and become like Dublin im a sense where any player coming from the bench, can slot instead of the majority of starting XV players without loosing quality. Dublin have players like Cluxton,McCarthy,Fenton, Kilkenny and Con who they would really miss whilst Kerrys are looking like they could be Foley,White,DOC,SOS & Clifford.

Breen was a double winning minor & his selection is deserved based on recent performances- he is versatile too & could play anywhere from 2-7 which is a big plus; David Morans return is probably “ horses for courses” given the physicality of the Clare midfield; panel looks stronger than recent years which can only bode well for our long term chances.

I think Moran has given an awful lot to Kerry and hope he has a great game.
I hope he moves the ball on quickly and players move so that he can do that and not be looking for a killer pass.
I hope he does not shoot from difficult positions.
I hope he comes off after 50 minutes before his decision making starts to disimprove..
I think Moran starts or is nowhere: I don't think he is a great option off the bench in the way T Walsh is.

Annascaultilidie, that's three 'I hopes" in the one post regarding Moran.
At this stage we should be expecting and not hoping, we have better options on the bench that can play this style naturally as opposed to being half forced.
Do agree with you 100% on Tommy, he is as effective in our play as he is as an upsetting agent to oppositions defensive plans.
Dublin being forced to move McCarthy is the prime ex sample - they lost an attacking platform to protect their backline

About 25 mins into the game with Dublin Moran took a ball into the tackle with two Dubs and of course lost possession. After doing it in injury time in the drawn All Ireland final with Dublin and losing possession which led to the equalising point and of course twice giving away possession needlessly v Cork at the death last year, two fundamental questions arise....is he incapable of learning from his mistakes and why does management allow this. I turned off the TV in the Dubs game when he wasnt immediately substituted. I read in the paper that he was taken off till the 44th minute.
