Cluxton always struck me as a puritanical man who sets high standards of behaviour for himself. The early morning training sessions in contravention of covid rules would be an affront to him. He sprung to my mind when that story broke. That wouldnt have sat well with him. I would say he stayed at home too on the night of the 2020 final!

He is also a science teacher so would have studied science at third level which might put him to some extent in the same frame of mind as Dr Tony. The only time I ever heard him speaking at length and with enthusiasm was in an interview on radio explaining his class' project from the Young Scientist Exhibition at the RDS.

What a point by McBrearty. Coldrick gave Derry enough time to equalise but nobody wanted the responsibility of hitting it.

Eric Lowndes has left dublin panel... That’s a bit odd. I’ve never rated him but he has always been happy to play a bit part role so why leave now? Especially when they’ve a lot of injuries in the backs so he might actually see game time.

It is strange, when it was announced on the radio this morning they also said that Cooper, Small, Murchan and McDaid were all doubts for Sunday, that's 4 of the AI final starting backs, not to mention Cluxton.

It is strange he came on in all the league games its another oddity coming out of that camp there is only 7 weeks left in the competition. I'd say they will still hammer Meath but hopefully Meath go at them the defence is obviously not as strong without all those players.

I fully understand that the All-Ireland football championship schedule is set out and has a very tight timeframe but I just don't think it's right that the Monaghan match wasn't postponed in light of the devastating loss of their U20 captain just hours previously. Some room could have been found to play this match at a later date.

Bit of a game in Leinster, as I type it's a 1 score game Dublin 2-13 v 1-13 Meath.
Edit: 3 late scores in injury time for Dublin. FT: Dublin 2-16 v 1-13 Meath.

Was that because it was being shown live on Sky? Who knows.

Kerry played Tyrone in 08 and the keeper's father died the night before the final and the game went on.i was embarrassed to be there. The date should have moved.

I was going to call this out too for the obvious agenda driven piece that it is. Tony L seems to be no fan of our current management setup because I suspect his completely outside the loop and quite rightly they tell him nothing! Tony's agenda is as transparent as glass and it's get team Éamonn his buddy back.

Dublin are in trouble.
You go at Dublin like Meath did and Kerry did in Thurles and you can get at them.
Please god we get a crack at them in August.

Wouldn't Jack love the feather in the cap of taking down the Dubs! A Dublin era that really took off in 2011 and ending at Jack's hands in 2021 has a sort of symmetry to it. Still you'd imagine the Dubs will see off Kildare but the Connacht champions? I'm not so sure anymore.
There were some terrible decisions against Meath today and not for the first time the Dubs got serious breaks from the referee in the big house.

The penalty Meath didnt get was more of a penalty that the one Dublin got. Fenton went to ground for the Dublin penalty
Conor Lane got both calls wrong in my view.

Interestingly they did not analyse them in the Sunday Game even though they have just analysed the two “penalty “ incidents in the Clare/Wexford game.

the Sunday game never criticize Dublin, at least not to the level they would Kerry if we were in their position. I was watching Spillane and Kavanagh going at it at the Monaghan Tyrone match. They were the pundits. Kavanagh throws it out there how kerry 'only' have to play Waterford while Tyrone and the whole of Ulster have it so hard Blah Blah Blah...! Tyrone have won nothing in 12 years says the bould Pat. When you've walked the walk.....!

Still you'd imagine the Dubs will see off Kildare but the Connacht champions? I'm not so sure anymore. There were some terrible decisions against Meath today and not for the first time the Dubs got serious breaks from the referee in the big house. Lane reffed the 2019 replay and didn't award Dublin a scoreable free for over 70 mins (in same big house). Kerry's defence was obviously magnificent in terms of its discipline. Yesterday he got 2 penalty calls wrong, one for each side. He also got the third one right. He gave at least 3 and possibly 4 frees against Dublin for over carrying and none against Meath. At least 2 of those calls were nonsense. In the dying minutes James McCarthy was hauled to the ground on a Dublin kick out and a fairly large scale melee ensued. James got a yellow for being hauled down. When Meath got a run on Dublin, and fair play to them for it, Dublin players had to be near assaulted to get a free. On the flip side Meath got frees if a Dublin player coughed within 2 yards of them. I don't like blaming refs as they are human too and make mistakes like us all but Lane has ridden Dublin consistently since he started getting big games. It hasn't been highlighted as Dublin usually come out on the right side but he's uncomfortably close to cheating. So I don't agree with your analysis. As an aside, Dublin have obviously regressed. The expectation bar is well and truly lowered. The first half was a pleasant surprise, but the 2nd was a stark contrast. What struck me was that relative newcomers like Bugler and Paddy Small, although with a couple of All Irelands to their name, are hit and miss in terms of both attitude and decision making. This has been masked by the high standards of some generational players. The team now is more or less carried by Fenton Kilkenny Con and James Mc, and possibly a fit Dean Rock. If we get Murchan and John Small back the half back line is much stronger and Jamesie goes to midfield. I expect them to get past Kildare. If Mayo get past Galway it's a big if they are to beat Dublin without Cillian O'Connor. And if it's a Dublin Kerry final on current form you have to think Kerry are favs, barring injury or suspension to Clifford. If Dublin get over the line this year it will be almost as sweet as 2011 and 2019. Great to be looking forward to it all as it unfolds, feels nearly normal.

If Lane gets another game after that then the system will be open to refs being bunged, free holidays, hotel stays, etc - well why not, the rest of 'em are at it so why shouldn't others in authority. How a supposedly top ref could get those 2 penalties wrong is inexplicable and a total insult to the effort involved - on the face of it these alone determined the outcome and that is telling underdogs that it isn't enough to score more, you now have to buy off the ref.

Small n murchan would definitely help the cause and strengthen your bench.

Maybe he was over compensating for allowing Murchan to take all those steps in the same final you referred to! I am fairly sure Lane reffed the semi final between Dublin and Mayo in 2019. I remember in the first half he gave a number of frees for overcarrying that would never have been given. Before that game there was a bit of a focus on over carrying on the Sunday Game and a few podcasts and it was like Lane decided to over focus on this in the first half. He forgot about his focus on this for the 2nd half and the final replay. Dublin still look brilliant on paper from 8-15. Getting Small - No. 6 - back for a semi final will be their priority.

The Dubs will destroy that Kildare team and when Small and Murchin return they will be very hard to beat. Mayo again will give them a game but it will be the same old story in the end. Kerry will have to be super clinical and our backs will have to prove that they are defender's as well as footballers. Jack o Connor interview after the game was telling. He almost admitted that Kildare's season had reached its goal for 2021.

8 finals (including replays) in 6 years with - A Referee know colloquially as Dublin Joe reffing one (3 if you include 2011 and 2013) - David Coldrick reffed 2 finals (lives in Dublin) - David Gough reffed 1 final (lives in Dublin and holds a high position in Dublin's Cumann na mBunscol) - A Referee from Leinster (Maurice Deegan, Laois) - Conor Lane (Cork) with 3 finals
The problem is with the Corkman 🤔
Are some Dublin fans really going down the route of claiming there is a refereeing conspiracy against them when at least 3 finals were managed by officials who travelled less than some Dublin players to the final?
Jesus wept.
