I don't think county league positions going out the window legislates for these odds, especially if club champ also taken into consideration Ballyduff won the novice, are 10/1 while teams that could not get out their group are 8/1
The odds are all wrong

St. Senans 1-13 Beale 0-6 HT 1-7 0-2
St. Senans won this as convincingly as the score line suggests. Indeed the issue was settled by half time even though St. Senans had played against a s strong breeze. In fairness to Beale they did stage a spirited fightback in the first 10/15 minutes of the second half and at one juncture they had reduced the deficit to four but Senans pulled away and won pulling up at the end. Beale's cause was not helped by having a penalty well saved by impressive keeper, James Barry, at a time when St. Senans were six up. However, a successful conversion was unlikely to have impacted the outcome.
The Senans were very impressive in that first half. Their defence was bullet prrof , conceding only 0-2. Barry O'Mahony ,less prominent in the second half, was the dominant figure at midfield. Up front , Sean O'Connell and especially Conor Kennelly, recording a fine total of 0-6(1f) were the most impressive. Sean expertly converted a penalty, had one point from play and four from frees, unlike his Beale counterpart in the second half.
Beale , only a shadow of the team who won it a few years back, always looked to a tier below their opponents. Phillie Blake gave his all at midfield. Paul Collins was defiant in the backs while Cormac Linnane, 0-2, Darragh Buckley,0-2(1f) and Neilus Mulvihill fought the decent fight up front.
The referee was far too whistle happy and therefore the game was frustratingly stop start, especially in the second half.

Have to disagree taught the referee had a very good game in a game that could have got dirty especially ten mins before half time when Beale were getting frustrated by their own performance. If there’s a foul the ref has to blow if no advantage not he’s fault the teams were continually filing but I stand corrected

Desmonds 1-13. Emmets 1-10. HT. 0-6. O-7.
This was closely contested in the first half which Listowel edged by one point . Indeed they looked more dangerous in attack and I felt they looked the more likely winners. However, we saw a much improved display from Castlisland in the second half with top performances from a number of players all over the field. Barry Lynch was unyielding at full back with Luka Brosnan and Maurice Hickey no less prominent on both wings. Up front Sean and Thomas Lynch and Adam Donoghue were crafty and incisive . They created a great movement which culminated in ? In Cian Hickey O’Connor flashing to the net . In a short space of time they opened up a lead of six points and appeared to be cantering home.
In that second half, Listowel brought on a promising newcomer, Noel Kennelly, and he finished a move to the net . Indeed with a bit of luck he could have had another. A promising future for this boy! Castleisland deservedly held on and now go on , I think , to meet Ballyduff. A nice soft one!
I was very impressed by recent Kerry minor, Adam Donoghue, at wing forward for the Desmond’s . A fine athletic lad , he was repeatedly used with success as a kick out recipient by competent goalie, Stephen Bartlett.
Conor Cox did not line out for Listowel and with a one score deficit at the end he may well have made the difference for them. Bryan Sweeney was also an absentee through injury. Listowel will be disappointed but most of their team are only recently out of the minor grade. If they can keep them together matters could become brighter for them in the not too distant future. Ciaran Pierre, Eddie Browne, Joe Joe Grimes , Sam Tarrent and David Keane all had good moments but not enough of them.
P.S. Two ambulances entered the terrace to treat some supporter towards the end of the game. I am not sure what that was about but two ambulances? Reading the papers one gets the impression that it can be difficult to get one ambulance on occasions but yet two arrived more or less together yesterday at a football match. I would love to know the background to that story. Anybody know?

End of an era for 2 great Listowel Emmets stalwarts as Noel Kennelly and Shane Quinn hung up their boots after their long and distinguished careers with the Black and Amber of Emmets. Noel first came on the senior team in 1995 at the tender age of 16 and would continue right up to yesterday 8 weeks short of his 40th birthday. Noel had many a fine day in the office for Listowel and could always be depended upon to rise his performance to help Emmets to get over the line ( which he nearly did again yesterday after being introduced late on scoring a goal and another attempt saved on the line ) he won 6 NK C’chips with Emmets his last as player manager in 2015, A promising underage player he won 2 All Ireland medals before his inter county career was cut short by niggling injuries. When both he and brother Tadhg lined out together for Emmets they were a sight to behold the telepathy between both brothers was a joy to watch, he was an inspiration to those around him and always gave great encouragement and advice to younger team mates. Shane also had a long career with Emmets after coming into town from Clounmackon in the late ‘90s, he was goalkeeper on the last Feale Rangers team to win the County Championship.Shane was teak tough and a great character on the field playing outfield or between the posts. Both will be missed on the playing fields of Kerry, Thanks for the entertainment lads.

Very poor reffing performance in knock today . Not much better in Desmonds I was in Knocknagoshel. It was much worse than very poor. The worst I have ever seen by some distance. A ten year old would have made a better effort.

For a town 'where stories begin' there will surely be more acknowledgement of Noel Kennelly's retirement. Now us exiled don't need reminding that we don't go to enough matches so come on our townie kin.
Eddie 'Polo grounds 47' Dowling once silenced the company of an evening characterising brother Tadhgeen as 'a dandy footballer', and didn't Roberteen O'Muirceartaigh feed an in the moment/on the spot absolutely astounding turn of phrase in a NK semi final in Moyvane, that was when we could be in moment of such battles, before viewing such warfare was censored.

Ventured to Listowel for the Senans-Duagh game. Senans the more capable team but are weakened by the loss of Damian Somers (talk of serious injury troubles) and David Foran (emigration to sunnier climes). Duagh offered little up front outside of Nigel O'Connor and in general seemed to be more interested in making a physical impression on their opponents. If they were able to tackle within the law and use their physicality then they could have made more of a fist of this game considering that they were able to spring players like Kieran Quirke and Maurice O'Connor from the bench. Maher spent second half at full forward with what looked like a calf issue and was limping heavily. Sean T Dillon got red carded late for Senans and will be a huge loss but I struggle to see how two players can start boxing each other and only one gets the line??
Senans had Barry Mahoney, Paudie Quille and Sean Weir playing in spurts and still seemed to have more football and legs but wasn't hectic fare all in all. North Kerry football not in a great state quality wise.

It's very quite here so I felt I should participate. NK semi final draw made on Tuesday night. NOV 24TH ballyduff or Desmonds v Brosna DEC 01ST Ballydonoghue or tarbert V senans.
Very open championship this year. Are ballydonoghue still solid favourites after rd 1? Senans will struggle without last year's captain if he is missing in semi. It's anybody's really although tarbert and Brosna look to need improving. I think it could be the winner of the remaining 2 if they are doing enough and hold the interest until close to Xmas. While the quality is not great the matches so far were competitive so far (the ones I saw) and others read and heard about.

senans and ballydonoghue panels much depleyted from last years final, which brings them back in to the chasing pack, could the winner come from the brosna desmonds ballyduff side of the draw or will b donoghue make 4 consecutive finals ,senans 3 out of 4 finals or will tarbert the least mentioned team come in under the radar

Ballyduff 1-16. Castleisland 1-7. HT 0-8. 1-3. (maybe out by a point or two- no scoreboard)
Desmonds started like a train , scoring 1-2 without reply, and it looked as if they would carry on where they left off against Listowel. Amazingly , they scored only 0-1 for the remainder of the half. Ballyduff said enough of this nonsense and continued to dominate the rest of the half and indeed the remainder of the match.
Thomas Lynch at full forward was the fulcrum of that early Castleisland blitz, scoring 1-1. He was a threat all through the game , indeed Castleisland’s only threat, but once Ballyduff took over he was living off crumbs. but to his credit he never stopped presenting himself for the ball. When the pressure was exerted by Ballyduff the Castleisland backs could not cope and conceded free after free. In total the ageless Mikey Boyle kicked eight from frees while younger brother , Podge, had three pointed frees.
The issue was well decided before Podge, outstanding all through, crashed home an inevitable Ballyduff goal in the second half. Castleisland had a few efforts at goal in the second half but the Ballyduff defence was impregnable. At the other , Ballyduff pushed up very tight on the Castleisland backs and made life a misery for them as they tried to get the ball out the field.
Darren O’Connor , Padraig Walsh and Paul Costello’s, when he went back there in the second half, were outstanding. Up front they had a multiplicity of prominent players in Jack Goulding, Eoin Ross and the aforementioned Boyle brothers..
For Castleisland, Barry Lynch when he cams on in the second half , Luka Brosnan and the ever willing Pat Fitzgerald at midfield gave all they could. Up front , apart from the menacing Thomas Lynch, they were toothless. Adam Donoghue , outstanding against Listowel, disappointed.
I believe the Duffers are out against Brosna next. I wouldn’t bet my meagre life savings against them, Indeed, I may think of putting some of those life savings on them to win it out! They will always give you value for your investment.

So c'island were not able for the challenge. I agree with last posters ballyduff must be favourite. Today's result for ballydonoghue would not instill confidence even without their county star. On the other hand I assume they did not go all out. Senans v ballyD in semi. No bold predictions only that I feel ballyduff will not be in awe of who ever they meet. Should be a good if a bit drawn out run in.

Tarbert 1-10. Ballydonoghue 1-6. HT 0-4. 1-2
This quality was never more than mediocre but excitement was ensured because both teams were evenly matched . Ballydonoghue lined out without ace marksman Paul Kennelly as a consequence they struggled badly up front all through.
Tarbert started brightly courtesy of a pointed free or two from Killian Langan, who was industrious all through. Jack Foley struck back for a fine goal for Bally which the goalie from Tarbert may have dealt with better. As the half time score suggests , scores were rare occurrence. However , Ballydonoghue came close to scoring another goal about midway through the half. Jason Foley made a great run upfield and finished inside the cover and shot very well but Pa Carmody the Tarbert goalie went full length to effect a great save. Jaoon got injured in that movement and shortly afterwards collided blindly with one of his colleagues and limped off the field. A crucial loss. Ballydonoghue also also lost Darragh Sheehy and Brendan O’Neill at wingback who was playing well. Brendan reappeared late in the game.
Ballydonoghue had the better start to,the second half. Young Jack Kennelly, chaperoned by Shane Enright at this stage , got two fine points and Jack Foley lofted over a spectacular one as well. Matters looked good for Ballydonoghue at this stage but Tarbert have never been less than dogged. Shane Enright got on top of young Jack, Michael Heaphy and Daniel O’Connor became prominent as well in their defense. Mark Buckley emerged as the best midfielder over the course of the game, while Gerald O’Sullivan, Andrew Doherty o-2, and Killian Langan were forever industrious and a threat. Michael Carrie, nominally at corner forward, ranged all over with success.
It looked that for a while in that second half that Ballydonoghue might stumble over the line but a clinical Tarbert movement capsized them. The ball finished with wither Gerald O’Sulivan or Finbar Carrie, not sure who, and the net was rattled. That score deflated Ballydonoghue and lifted Tarbert and they were convincing and deserving winners at the end.
Ballydonoghue were a mere shadow of the team, in personnel and quality, who have been top of the pile in the North for while. Billy Foley, Michael Foley, Brian O’Sheanacain fitfully, Jack Foley and Jack Kennelly were their best players today. Above all , they could not cope with the loss of Jason and Paul Kennelly .
