Rumours going around that Rathmore are joining Kenmare district and not East Kerry next year. Makes sense when you think about it

Kilgarvan will play with West Kerry while Tousist will be part of South Kerry next year. you sure about Kilgarvan going to West Kerry?!! whoever they go to , they have a few players that will give any divisional team a lift. Rathmore and Kilgarvan would give EK serious further riches As far as I know it was decided a few weeks ago at county board - the Kenmare district board is being disbanded with the clubs mentioned going to WK & SK. The county board are looking at restructuring divisional boards with Tralee & St Brendans being looked at also along with a realignment of the Castleisland district - St Kierans are comprised of clubs who play in East Kerry ( Cordal, Scart), North Kerry ( Knocknagoshel, Brosna, Desmond’s) & Tralee board ( Ballymac) - further change is expected.

This is at all levels from Juvenile to Senior. Kenmare District will continue to field a team in the County Senior Football Championship. Next year it will be made up of just Tuosist and Kilgarvan, and from what I've heard, because they have no Intermediate team in their setup, they will be going into the Qualifying round of the Championship. I've heard the rumours about Rathmore up with Kenmare District instead of East Kerry, can't confirm their trustworthiness. Long term, I'd guess that there will be a move by Croke Park to prevent Kerry just have 8 Senior Clubs in their Championship and an order made to increase the numbers back up to at least 12.

When West Kerry were reduced to 3 clubs in 2018, the county board passed a bye law in relation to the composition of district sides which requires a minimum of 3 clubs one of whom must be intermediate - hard to see county board deviate from this in Kenmare's situation.

Kerry clubs have dominated these competitions and it could be argued that the small number of senior clubs means the representatives for Intermediate and Junior competitions are are too strong and are not truly intermediate and junior (on a national grading basis) due to the low level of senior clubs.

Without being too parochial, you'd think there might be better ratings for Crokes v East Kerry than the Patickswell game or Ballintubber v Corofin. We don't know who made the call either though. Not unknown for county boards to reject TG4's broadcasting requests, in the interest of maximising gate receipts.

Hopefully the weather is good, Tralee can be very open on wet days compared to killarney having a full stand on one side. www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/sport/gaa/kerry-sfc-final-misses-out-on-tv-coverage-961797.html

It seems to have clicked with some county boards that having bloated uncompetitive county senior championship structures is self-defeating. In Munster both Cork and Clare have cut down the numbers in their senior county championship recently so that's sure to improve their competitiveness at intermediate and junior level to improve. [Cork will have 12 senior clubs in a group format plus one from the the 7 divisions and the 2 3rd levels next year while Clare had 13 teams in their senior champiomship this year - 12 clubs and one amalgamation ; down from 16]

Not unknown for county boards to reject TG4's broadcasting requests, in the interest of maximising gate receipts.Apparantaly that's the reason why the last few weeks the live games on TG4 have been on so late I wouldn't be surprised if TG4 is paying very little to the individual county boards for these rights. Also while the GAA is pretty much always TG4's most popular programming, I'm not sure that Crokes v East Kerry compared to other fixtures would make all that significant of a difference to their viewing numbers, especially when compared to the cost. I remember seeing an article with the head of TG4 a while back and he basically said that TG4 can't afford to pay anything more than the utter bare minimum for sports rights - I think he said they paid something like a total of €80k for Pro14 rights for 3 years at one stage. The county board is thinking if 1,000 people stay at home to watch it on television that's €15 * 1000 = €15,000 [15 as an average price] If the weather's bad and given it's on in Tralee as opposed to Killarney given the teams involved I could definitely see a difference in attendence of 1,000 if the game was on the television. In the longer-term I think it's inevitable that RTE finances and viewership will mean they will be looking to show more and more GAA action, so I would expect TG4 to come under serious pressure on that front.

Kerry GAA chiefs rejected request to broadcast football final File photo of Austin Stack Park
By Stephen Barry Follow @stphnbarry Tuesday, November 05, 2019 - 06:21 PM Kerry GAA officials decided not to allow TV coverage of their County SFC final over concerns about the impact on the attendance.
The Kingdom's county board declined a request by TG4 to broadcast the final between Dr Crokes and East Kerry on Sunday because of the detrimental effect live coverage of their quarter-finals had on crowds at Austin Stack Park last month.
Learn more That Saturday-night double-header, which saw St Brendan’s defeat Killarney Legion and East Kerry knock out Dingle, was broadcast live on RTÉ 2.
The board estimate that caused a 35% reduction in attendance compared to equivalent quarter-finals in previous years, and didn't want to risk a similar fall-off in crowds and resulting income for the final.
"We decided as a board that we wouldn't televise it," said Kerry GAA chairman Tim Murphy.
"Normally, it would be deferred coverage that they [TG4] would have done in the past but this year, we televised two of the quarter-final matches on RTÉ. Both those games were televised live on the Saturday night and the actual attendance was affected fairly dramatically relative to previous years of quarter-final stages.
"We looked at it overall and the county final is one of the main sources of income for the board every year so, on balance, we felt that having televised two of the quarter-finals, which we wouldn't have done in previous years, we made a decision that we thought the attendance would be affected too much for the final."
Murphy says the board also ruled out deferred coverage of the final as that, too, would've affected crowd numbers, which he hopes will exceed 10,000 at Austin Stack Park, Tralee (3pm throw-in).
"No, normally it would only have been the final that you'd consider but the fact that we had televised the quarter-finals, we couldn't risk a situation where our attendance probably would be dramatically affected by even deferred coverage."
The decision doesn't represent a set policy for future finals, according to Murphy, but reflects the loss absorbed from the prior TV coverage this year.
"We'll review it. This is the first year we've ever televised a quarter-final so we're just looking at it in an overall scale and that was the reason. No more, no less than that."
It comes after TG4 chiefs denied our report yesterday they "prioritised" broadcasting provincial club championship games ahead of the Kerry showpiece. GAA Beo bosses said they wanted to show the match but their request was declined.
A TG4 spokesperson said: "Kerry County Board declined the request from TG4 to cover Sunday's senior football championship final between Dr Crokes and East Kerry.
"We have no issue with that decision. As a result, we have opted to cover the provincial championship semi-finals in Munster and Connacht."
The Munster Club SHC semi-final between champions Ballygunner and Limerick winners Patrickswell gets top billing, with live coverage from Walsh Park starting at 1.15pm. The deferred game comes from Tuam Stadium where All-Ireland champions Corofin face Mayo kingpins Ballintubber.

In Listowel on Sunday, St. Senans play Duagh . Normally this would be my match for the day even if clashing with the County Final . Unfortunately, it is not just clashing with the county final it is also clashing with what is very likely to be my last chance to see young David until the Spring. I cannot make that sacrifice. An artist before artisans Is irresistible.
The Listowel match is on at 12.30 while the Tralee match is on at 3pm. I suppose one could make both at a push but that is too much of a headache for me - parking etc, trying to get a good vantage point.. I thought they would put the Listowel match on under lights on Saturday night which would suit me and I am sure others.
This Tralee match is likely to attract a large crowd and I am convinced that young David is one of the few players who could add say two thousand. to that figure , Including people from outside the county. So, it is good bye to Listowel and hellow to Tralee.

If it's a draw at the end, there will be extra time and if no winner then a replay, is this correct?

Bookies seem split on the result, you can get evens on both sides in most places which is unusual for a gaa match. Draw priced in and around the 8/1 mark which could be a good shout

I would normally refer to is as Dingle unless when I am conversing in Irish and then I would use Daingean Uí Chúis. The people of Dingle made it clear they wanted the town to be called Dingle and that’s fair enough with me. As regards the club in Donegal it is Gaoth Dobhair and that is what the club wishes to be called. The two situations are not analogous.

It will only increase competitiveness in the top senior grade really, which is welcome but hopefully only a starting point.
