*Robbie Brennan. Also it’s not a great choice from him as Meath seem to be a complete shambles at the moment and are miles away from beating Dublin Can someone tell me is Brennan a Meath man himself, as I saw he played for St. Peters Dunboyne in 05' but also read that he was a native to Kilmacud? As the resident Meath poster I'll take this one... He is from Kilmacud but married a girl from Dunboyne.

Spillane at it again. He is becoming an embarassment imo.Pat was one of the greatest half forwards of all time but a brutal bitter pundit. When Kerry win great but when they dont there s a problem.
Pat blames Mickey Harte and Joe Kernan for copying Clive Woodwards defensive rugby tactics winning the RWC in 2003.Does Pat not realise that both Armagh and Tyrone won their All Ireland in 02 and 03 before the rugby world cup even started.Pat never thinks before he writes or speaks rubbish.
I remember even as a child Pat complaining about the 77 semi final saying the games Kerry lose tend to be great games and Kerry never get credit for winning. Grow up Pat !

Ciarraimick, I agree with you re Pat Spillane, it is a shame that a truly great player has become a byword for comedy punditry.
I do not read him anymore but can’t avoid seeing the occasional preposterous headline signaling his article. Like some other commentators , he specializes in sensationalism. Now , by ignoring his articles entirely it is likely that I am missing out on some insightful comments but having to endure reams of garbage is too a high a price to pay for the occasional gem.

Yes Vet,Like yourself I do not go out of my way to read his articles but they pop up on my phone. When I do read or hear his rants I think of the song "You say it best when you say nothing at all". The saddest thing is that people especially outside Kerry look on him as a joke or a whinger when they should be talking about the player he was. Pat was an all action player and maybe the greatest scoring half forward ever.A great man to kick long distance points and a defending half forward also. Also a very clean player.I think he won man of the match awards in 3 All Ireland finals and nine All stars but but but his punditry!

What was more impressive was that team was missing Dara O'Sé from injury and an injury returning Seamus Moynihan....

My sister decided to get hitched in Vienna of all places the day before, so I had to contend with watching it in Charlie P's one of the most famous Irish spots in the city that I believe is still going strong. One lone (and soon to be disgruntled) Mayo patron did not enjoy having to contend with a dozen Kerry fans still well on it from the day before Some team in fairness to them, quality everywhere. Saw the clip doing the rounds of Fitzmaurice's high ball, beautifully taken by the Gooch in full stretch before he spined through the Mayo defence and cooly slotted it into the net. Hopefully someone might encourage David et al to study such clips so they'll never be a repeat of what passed for attacking Kerry football this season!

saying there was serious strength in depth upto no. 30 is stretching it.... Mike Frank, S Moynihan, B Sheehan, S Sullivan and T Griffin serious replacements to have.. the other subs werent upto much.. none of them ever broke into starting 15 or anywhere near it.. John Sheehan did make the 1st 15 under Paidi and i thought unlucky not to feature under Jack... and he never did feature under Jack...

A lot of those subs were very good just came along at a time when there was huge competition for places. For example had the Gooch not come along Quill would have been a certain starter. Ronan O Connor was similar.

John Sheehan played 31 times senior for Kerry including 20 championship matches. Started and finished every match in 2002 under Paudie, including the All Ireland final. I'd be damn happy with that gang today...

id agree, that 2004 team and squad was one of the best we ever had, sure it was the basis of 6 all ireland finals in a row.
did we get to 6 finals in a row, any other time in our history does anybody know?

Seamus played up 2012, i assume he got injured and didnt feature . he would have been 31 coming back in 2013 under Fitzmaurice, you imagine too many miles on the body then and injuries took their toll -so thus, i dont think your "left go too early" is applicable here at all. he may also have been injured in 05 and 06 under Jack or didnt want to be part of the panel at all during those years. important to consider also our midfield options back then were really strong - Darragh and Kirby were mainstays for two years, you also had paddy kelly, brosnan and griffan starting big games there. loads of options and im sure theres 1 or 2 more i am forgetting. he played 4 years under Jack by the way and was a mainstay under Jacks 2nd term.

He played with the Juniors around 2005 I think. From what I remember we used to get sent off quite a bit when he was there under Paidi. 2010 was more or less his last year really. He wasn't really able to take over from Darragh as the main man at midfield.

That was a unique achievement by this side in the history of Kerry football and its a bitter shame they couldn't have pipped Tyrone in 08 and won the 3 or 4-in-a-row their talents deserved. If we had Dublin's money, Kerry based refs in major matches and got to play most of our games in Fitzgerald stadium I'm sure they could have won All six finals. But that 'glorious' achievement is getting the Christmas book treatment: www.rte.ie/sport/football/2024/0925/1471896-how-dublin-lost-their-innocence-unbeatable-extract/Can't wait to read the chapter on Dublin's finances, Mrs McQuillian and Gough and making Croker their home I'll certainly buy a copy and give it pride of place next to my loo where it can be on hand in case I need emergency toilet paper

Mossy Lyons was a sub in 2006. I remember this as we were scheduled to play Desmond’s in a championship game but it was called off the day before as Kerry had organized a challenge game and he wouldn’t be available. Net result was that 30-40 players plus more panel members had their schedule changed because of 1 sub on the kerry team. I think one player had to miss the rescheduled game as he had booked a family holiday on the basis that there would be no game that week.
Things like this always make think that as imperfect as the split season is, it’s much better than what went before it.

Mossy had a short career but was a very good player and solid.Never let Kerry down.Padraig Reidy another good corner back that had a short career. Padraig Reidy was a funny one to me. Was straight onto panel & team at a young age but then dropped off as quick while still seeming to be playing well for St Kieran’s in the co. Championship. Stephen O’ Sullivan from Skellig Rangers was similar to this without getting on the starting team. Was a mainstay of South Kerry through the noughties while he never got back to the Kerry after 2000

Reidy was decent but got some game time in the league and never really impressed.
Mossy Lyons was a very good footballer in my opinion but just came along when we had some great backs, did he not get a bad injury or 2?
