I watched the Kerry Offaly game straight after the Wexford KK game. Apart from the disparity in standard, the strictness of the reffing in Tralee was notable compared to the Wex v KK game.
Offaly won the all ireland 21 years ago in Codys first season as manager. They beat KK in the final.

Well done to the hurlers. Great result. Lost in all the hoopla about Offaly slipping to the third tier. Wait for all the calls now for the Joe McDonagh to be expanded to 6 teams etc. Offaly aren't good enough. Maybe the GAA might have been better off giving money to promote hurling in counties like Offaly, Kerry carlow etc than pumping it into Dublin football the last 10 years.
Look what the Joe McDonagh counties and Carlow have done with ittle or no central support

Another U20 title won, but again as i'vr said before is it any benefit in the long run when Kerry are so far ahead of everyone else at this level?
Also interesting to see three from Kilgarvan and no one atall from Ballyduff or Kilmoyley

Man of the match from Donal O'Sullivan scoring 2-5. Barry O'Mahony scored 1-2 at centre forward. Any chance of them playing senior hurling for Kerry?

Barry OMahony has two seasons under his belt as a senior. He played senior for the county before playing senior for his club.

What is the rush in getting the county hurling championship out of the way? Replayed game today with next round on Saturday. Quick turnaround for Crotta once again playing just 5 days later! Semi finals on the weekend of August 17/18 with the final the following Sunday. Quite clear thay the hurling is nothing more than a hindrance to the county board

Semi finals on the weekend of August 17/18 with the final the following Sunday. Quite clear thay the hurling is nothing more than a hindrance to the county board In 2017 there was a gap of 3 months between the first round and the second round with the final played in bad ground in October. Full marks to the county board i say for running it off properly in good weather. The dual players can play football when the county football championship resumes. Other counties should follow suit.

Who is your tip to win it Mickmack? Lixnaw looking even stronger than last year at the moment. Shane Conway is just a joy to watch - Would make an impact on most county teams IMO. Ballyduff wont be far away either, as always. They looked impressive in their last outing granted it was against a poor Ballyheigue side.

Munster councal wanted the minors to play in Munster championship next year but county board said no. I've said it before things wont improve unless the underage teams make a spet up. They're saying it's a year or two too early but imp the others will just push on even more. I know Kerry won't be winning the champinship but is winning the B grade doing anything good in the long term?

Cork with too much power even with a second string squad. Mallow was bitterly cold tonight and Kerry over their depth. Kerry haven't closed the gap on Cork, maybe do better against Tipp.

Would be great if hurlers rose near the top but realistically hard to see it as they would have to compete with teams that have similar wherewithal as our footballers. Cork won both one year and Offaly and Galway are also 'dual' counties so there is a benchmark.
There may be a belief that TCB would be risk averse in that what might be given to hurling would be better spent on football, i.e. a Sam Maguire is more valuable, so maybe the county needs to have that conversation.
I didn't really get into the few hurling games I've been to and partly because I had a behind the goals ticket - whatever chance I had of seeing the ball from the sidelines I had no chance there. Low and behold but with the League Finals played together this year I had a good ticket on the Hogan and didn't I get the bug, really got into it, though Limerick outplayed Waterford it was an amazing game, much as I hate to admit but it even sapped a bit of the enthusiasm for our own game after.
On the question of 'dual' playing, with the standards of both codes rising it is consequently increasingly hard for 'dual players' - hard enough to manage one!

on a receiving end of a lesson in the 2nd half today. very dependant on Shane Conway frees for a score
still with Daniel Collins, Brandon Barrett, Padraig Boyle, Michael O'Leary and one or two others to come back into the side, the outlook heading into the league is still positive

Great result for Kerry against Offaly at ASP today, the Kingdom scoring the last 6 points to win by 2-11 to 0-14.
Two from two in the league so far. Well done to all.

super win....
anybody know why this game wasnt played saturday night at 5pm before the football? would have been great for the players to play before a crowd of what would have been close to 12,000 by the time you add the too together.
instead they played before ~300

NIALL MCINTYRE Shane Conway dances around the hurling pitch like a kangaroo on springs. The ball does as the Lixnaw man wishes and when he drops the shoulder and goes, you haven't a hope of catching him.
There was one stage in Wednesday night's Fitzgibbon Cup final when the Kerryman slipped trying to control the ball. The IT Carlow chasers converged, but as the dainty forward fell to the ground, his balance remained in check and the ball somehow stayed, as if hovering with magnetic forces on his hurley.
Everyone in the DCU sportsground stands drew a sharp intake of breath. This was street hurling in the field's of St Clare's.
All told, Conway's 0-10 guided UCC to their 40th ever Fitzgibbon Cup title. It was Conway's second in two years and if you haven't heard of or seen the Kerry player in action at this stage, you're missing out.
He's like a chosen one, with the low centre of gravity and the dancing feet. The ball just responds to his call and speaking after another stellar performance, UCC manager Tom Kingston praised his gem to the heavens.
"He’s just different level," said Kingston.
"His hurling brain is just so far ahead of most guys, his skill, his free-taking kept us in the match. He did it all over the pitch, he’s outstanding. I think any team in the country would love to him, he’d make any team in the country but he’s loyal to his club, he’s loyal to his county and I’d have huge admiration for him. I slag him there sometimes, I call him the Messi of hurling, and I don’t think I’m too far wrong, he is the messi of hurling."
Few would argue with that. Kingston's nephew Shane was another who dazzled on a brilliant night for 'The College' and the manager was a proud man afterwards.

The guy is just gifted. Let's hope the Cork senior hurlers come calling! Some of his teammates last night are Cork seniors and some of the best young hurlers in the country, yet he outshines them most games...
One of our counties brightest lights across all sports.

Shane Conway seems to have taken his game to another level this year. Congrats and well done to him. The more fellas playing at this level the better imo. Even being part of panals in UCC, UL etc can only be a good thing. If he can stay injery free he'll be one of if that Kerry's greatest

good win in Trim in terrible conditions
The backs were teak tough, Nolan and Conway got on a lot of ball at midfield and forwards grafted hard on a day that was not for forwards. Padraig Boyle and Brandon Barrett were the best of the forwards
Kerry going nicely in the league

RTE's treatment of lower tier hurling is appalling. On TSG last night, for instance, they started with extensive highlights and analysis of a Div 2 football game (Ross-Kildare). Later on, after the results from all 4 divisions were gone through, there was special mention of Waterford and Limerick's footballing exploits. Yet, when it came to the hurling, there wasn't a peep about anything outside of Div 1A/1B. I don't think they even gave the scores.
This is the norm with RTE and has been forever. In fact it seems to be the case with the hurling fraternity generally - no interest in highlighting or promoting the game beyond the elite counties.
