Antrim, Westmeath and Offaly or Carlow battling to survive in Leinster next year will be interesting, if it happens. Offaly and Antrim will want to drag Dublin into the relegation dog fight.

Carlow's win today shows how near we are to winning a Joe McDonagh cup. Not good news for Kerry, though, as I expect this young Offaly team to get stronger. I'd put money on them contesting final again next year.

I'd put money on them contesting final again next year. Based on this year's form it'd be hard to see Kerry being able to be up to that level today.

Looking like Molumphy will be staying on next season according to the Kerry's eye. Imo he's done little to push things on in the last two seasons but maybe he needs a third to make an impact.

Stephen Molumphy has apparently been reappointed for another year. While in a way it's good to not be changing I just don't see how he's going to bring things forward any more than he has.

Yep not thrilled about that news, this year was a major disappointment and hard to see Kerry progressing now under him next season. Hope I'm wrong but feel things have stagnated already. What harm in the Co. Board putting a call out to other potential candidates and let Molumphy interview like everyone else and spell out what he's going to bring next year that's different.

Because the CB doesn't want the hassle of that and it's just easier for them to just reappoint Molumphy. Unless there a huge change it'll be more of the same again next year.

It's a tough challenge next year. Offaly, Laois and Westmeath have all played at a higher level in league or championship in recent years. While last year, this year but feels like last year already, was underwhelming, Offaly were a tough nut to crack in the league semi-final. The final round of fixtures fell kindly for Carlow and Carlow took full advantage at Offaly's expense in the final. The 2025 league might see a return of Division 1B for 7 to 12, or county boards nationally might opt for 5 divisions of 7. If it's a return to Division 1B for 7 to 12, Kerry would nearly want to consider a more competitive league to get into 1B. If it's a Division 2 for 7 to 14, they'll want to ensure they get into that. The divisions of 7 option will have 2 up and 2 down it that's voted in. Hard to see Molumphy progressing things next year but you never know. Offaly, Laois and Westmeath will be taking points of each other and Kerry can capitalise.

In fairness to him, I think he hasnt the talent to win the Joe McDonagh just yet. My gripe with him and that of many kerry hurling people is the tactics\style of play, overly defensive That needs to be addressed Kerry actually have an excellent under 20 hurling team in 2024 but it looks like it will be decimated as a half dozen or so will be with the under 20 footballers In fact they had an excellent team in 2023 as well if everyone was available but Rob Monohan, Luke Crowley, Adam Segal were not available owing to football In the longer term I think we will have a team to win the Joe McDonagh but just caught in a transition period Charlie Keating, Luke Crowley, Evan Boyle, Liam Og Connor, Ronan Walsh, Dara Conway, Oisin Maunsell, Cillian Trant, Tom Doyle, Kevin Goulding, Rory Mahony, Phelim O'Sullivan all look fine prospects in the 17 - 22 age bracket

Removing the preliminary quarter-finals wasn't going to gain much traction when the overall McDonagh format was remaining the same. There is an argument for expanding the McDonagh Cup to 8 teams. Kildare who were relegated this year are not out of place in the McDonagh. Meath are not out of place in the McDonagh either. It would be a step up for Derry or London but I don't think they would decline a year of tough hurling. An 8 team single group McDonagh Cup could be contested over 7 rounds, with the top 4 advancing to semi-finals. The McDonagh Cup final then can be on the same day as an All-Ireland hurling semi-final, which was the GAA's intention.

To me, the current system makes no sense. It's like giving this year's Intermediate clubs finalists entry to this years county championship. It was introduced to appease Offaly when they were relegated from the Liam McCarthy cup. It's a nice treat for the 2 counties that get to the final, but it results in putting pressure on the round robin to be finished quickly, to allow for the 2 finalist to have the final plus a recovery time & then the Liam McCarthy preliminary quarter finals. I'd prefer to have more free weekends during the Joe McDonagh round-robin and have the final later in the year. Also, the first round at present is the week after the league finals, so this year Offaly had about 7 weeks in a row of hurling. This is nuts, given that some counties were finished their inter-county season so early.

Fionán Mackessy has won his fourth straight McDonagh cup All Star award. He's really developing into a top class player.

Best hurler in Kerry at present in my view Tall, strong and a Superb athlete aswel and can hold his own at any level he hurls at. Could do with another one or two Fionan type players to give the Joe McDonagh a proper rattle in 2024.

Team is too light physically

Parnells play Banner from Clare in the Munster junior championship on Saturday in Mitchels. Be interesting to see how they get on. They did play in Munster a few years ago when Kilgarvan didn't after they'd won the Intermediate.

Crotta put in a massive effort today against a strong castlelyons team.Crotta hurled to a much higher standard today than in the county ch ship.Crotta played with a gale in first half and coming up to half time were 10 to the good but a goal for castlelyons on the stroke of halftime made their cause more managable for second half, eventually c lyons got level and went ahead but could not pull ahead by more than a point or 2 with barry mahony equalizing to bring it to extra time.Castle lyons had the better of extra time to win by 4. The c lyons keeper had a massive puck out with wind pointing from a puck out and a free from over a 100 metres.Barry mahony is the best hurler in the county ably assisted today by killian trant ,just naming 2 is abit un fair as every Crotta player hurled to the maximum of their ability and thats all you can ask for

He has it all. Phenomenal athlete aswel.
