Well if that's the case then there is no argument. I have no problem with that scenario and Michael Duignan should nt either. I did nt like the situation a couple of years ago when players with no connections were allowed play with weaker counties but I'm all for players playing for a parents county if it suits or players working or living in a county also. Would people object to the son of Tomas O'Se playing for Kerry for example. Are you suggesting that a change of counties could be on the cards in the case of an O’Se? Don’t be ridiculous. I have it on good authority that Tomas’s young fellow was recently picked to play u14 for Cork but when he put on the red colours he broke out in a sever allergic rash. An immediate meeting of the O’Se clan was called and Tomas was forced to swear on Paidi’s jersey that nothing like that would ever again be repeated. Mick , if you make a suggestion like that again I will petition that you circle Paidi’s monument in Ventry one hundred times while uttering “ forgive me Paidi. I knowest not what I say”

Michael Duignan is complaining about Kerry recruiting hurlers from outside the county in today’s Examimer. I am sympathetic to his views . Uneasy about this policy. www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-40783116.htmlI don't like it either. Happening in football too e.g. Conor Jordan of Stacks lining out for Clare. His father is from Clare and played with them. In recent times Mike Miller played with the Kerry hurlers after joining Crokes and had no links to Kerry and no one had an issue with that

I've a good time for Michael Duignan. I've met him. Nice man, but maybe he's worried here that Kerry may upscuttle his 'Faithful Renaissance' regarding Offaly. Michael is missing the point.

In fairness Milner though Cork native was living in the county and transferred to a Kerry club Dr Crokes. He is still in the thick of the hurling activity in Crokes Not really the same as a lad living in another county and playing with a club in another county

He got a job as a guard in Kerry and moved here permanently, so what issue could people have had? So yes he has links to Kerry, he lives and works here.

Milner was an entitled to play for Kerry as Joe McKenna from Offaly was entitled to play for Limerick back in the 1980s. It really is staggering that some people cant see how that differs to the situation of a player born and living in another county of but with a Kerry parent.

Not directly connected to this thread, I'm just after watching the best documentary on Laochra Gael just there on TG 4. Terence ' Sambo' McNaughton. What a legend from Cushendall. What an inspiration, considering what he had to go through himself with his speech impediment at school, the intimidation by the occupying forces in the North. Antrim in general.
The whole episode was a joy to behold and inspiration to developing hurling counties such as ourselves even.
So maybe there is a lesson and a connection here to a Kerry hurling thread after all.
Great credit to TG 4. Antrim and Sambo.

Whats your view of the other scenario that we are discussing. Kerry people move to live in say Limerick. Have children. Children are living in Limerick and playing with Limerick club. Should the children be allowed hurl for Kerry.

Not the same thing at all. Those lads were living and playing club in their adopted counties. There's never been any issue with that whatsoever, except of course where there's been a doubt as to the real circumstances like in the Seanie Johnson case. If a fella lives in a county, fine. If he plays there, fine. And obviously if he's from that county himself, great. But an ancestral link and nothing else just isn't enough in my book. Sure half the country must have a parent from another county. Parental rule should be scrapped imo.

I can still recall his description of the time he was being presented with an award at some away club and the organisors got their wires crossed and the MC asked him to say a few words. This was a nightmare situation. He was incapable of speaking such was his stammer. What followed was a few minutes of embarrassed silence. Those in the room who knew his predicament were mortified. He decided to try to say a few words and the words came. From that moment his life changed and he pretty much spoke freely ever since.

I am aware of a very similar instance in London and where a 'compatriotess' in the audience roared 'UP MAYO', and then they couldn't shut him up for the night! Nobody would believe the same man was a boxer as he was anything but big, poor man passed away recently so nostalgia all round! What was further amazing was that he used to take a nap before a fight, lulling the opponent into a false sense of security or what? Ah one great aul story borrows another - RIP Sean Corley, Castlebar and Ealing London - he was a pal of the great Sean Horkan and won national titles - and a fine gentleman he was too, one of Mayo's best even if he was a small parcel. We'd have strangers in the pub in awe as we'd regale his bouts.

A lot of names in the first fifteen unfamiliar to me. Tipperary must be wondering about their understudies.

In fairness they were a bit understrength but yeah totally outclassed. Were you watching the Rockies game Kingdomboy? I heard they were fairly dire. I was bud, Stacks were slow out of the blocks and conceded a very early goal after 20/30 seconds which they never recovered from. Did you stream the hurling or did you travel down for it? By all accounts there was a big Kerry support there for it.

Unsurprisingly big defeat, I was predicting 18 - 25 points against a strong Limerick side, lost by 30 points which was very disappointing. Two milestones in 8 days, a first historic win over Tipperary last Saturday, a near record defeat today. I know we were missing a lot ourselves. Hopefully a lot was leant today, albeit a steep learning curve. The two Shane's were playing deep today. The main thing is we are learning and raising the standard of expectations, hunger wise.

The 'wannabees' can be more formidable at this time of year, laddos looking to unseat 1st 15, so maybe not as bad as it looks on the face of it.
Progress has added that bit of magic to things, moreover as NK is under quota where county players are concerned. Any word on Fitzy's report?

Shane Horan (Dublin and Kilmacud Crokes) is playing football with Offaly as one of his parents are from Offaly. All done with the blessing of one Michael Duignan. Will Shane Horan continue to play football for Offaly if Kerry are blocked from playing the lads born in Limerick. Michael Duignan will have to block him too if the principle is to be established and implemented consistently
