He's awfully paranoid of a bias against South Kerry within Kerry, a bias against Dromid within South Kerry and a bias against his townland within Dromid. Spot on Jo90. Brilliantly put! he seems to be awfully paranoid about the golden year lads and management also,i still dont get what the problem was with denihans comments.

Read the book a few days ago, very good in fairness. I think the media blew it up a little, but i guess thats their job. Once i started reading it, I couldn't stop.
Particularly enjoyed jacks "fear" of Darragh O Se. He tries to convey it as "respect" but he knew that if he lost Darragh, it was going to be tough. that said I'd prob be the same myself!
Reading something like this makes you realize that we have, without a shred of doubt, one of the best amateur organizations in the world. Professional sport-people would struggle to convey and paint the scene which Jack does very well. And also he was able to put it into words for us ordinary folk to appreciate!
P.S. Actually, we are part of the BEST amateur organization in the world!

Good point Jacko........................ can you imagine what this summer would be like without GAA.....
Johnny Culloty said that during his time working as a phychiatric nurse............ the number of admissions fell sharply in a year when Kerry won the All Ireland.............

I agree that the book is harmless enough but.... How players prep themselfs for a game or what is said in the dressing room is not for us to know. It is a respect that all players managers selectors must have for each other even after its over.

I agree Joan. Jack could have let well alone at least until the present day players that he had managed are retired. I can only deduce that he did it for the money and struck while the iron ws still hot and pehaps as a swipe to those he felt affronted him. He certainly seems to have a large chip on his shoulder. Proven good manager though, can't argue with his record.

O Se says Jack’s book told too much 12 August 2007
Current Kerry star Tomas O Se has expressed his disquiet with some of the contents of former Kingdom supremo Jack O’Connor’s recent autiobiography and believes there some things in the book that would have been better left out.
"I don’t think the book compromised us but I don’t agree with what he did," O Se declared.
"There are some stories which shouldn’t have been told.
"When you’re in charge of a team the players need to fully trust you and we did.
"We trusted Paidi, we trusted Jack and we trust Pa (O’Shea). I don’t buy into the idea of telling stories - I just don’t get it at all.
"Had we known that he was going to write a book, I don’t know what it would have been like.
"It has changed things. In fairness nothing major came out of the book. There were just small things that shouldn’t have come out."

From all I've heard about this book, I feel I've read it already. All the talk can't be doing the sales much harm!

Finally got around to reading this. It was a good read but I wouldn't be that happy with Jack if I was a member of the Kerry panel. Some of the stories should have remained untold. The dressing room is sacred. I would imagine it has changed his relationship with some of the players.
Oisin Mcconville's book is up next!
