Cork dropped 8 or 9 balls into the goalies hands as well if they hadgone over it could been a lot worse for meath. Bray wasnt on song at all with his first 4 shots going wide i believe. great work ethic by the cork lads as well today, noel o leary enjoyed his day out a little too much though Are you colour-blind? It was Meath who were dropping the ball into the goalie's hands

Watching it on the sunday game now. Cork looked good. I said straight after the munster final that kerry and cork would meet again in the final. One thing that might count against cork is that they have'nt had a tough game since the munster final.

Cork dominated the possession, physically, defensively, and at midfield, they were well on top. Up front their forwards came of age. I did not forsee that their forwards would do THAT well, so fair play to them, today was a complete performance. As predicted, Meath did not cope with being favourites, nor with such a physical challenge, they lacked alot in experience, and whatever injury weaknesses they had were really shown up. Then again, Cork were without their main forward, so there can be no excuses for Meath. Cork's development over the past few years came fully to fruition today, and without being clever, it's clear that the idea of Meath & Dublin being cocks of the walk this year was not at all realistic. I've said since the start of the year (hello Mickmack?!) that I didnt think Meath were any great shakes yet, and that Dublin still have it all to prove against a top team. This view was vindicated today

I've bitten my tongue for long enough. And, yes, I know it's early days to say such a thing but I'm going to say it anyway:
If we come through against Dublin, I would be very, very worried about coming up against Cork judging on their performance today. They have things coordinated so well all over the field - backs, mid-field and most impressively, their forward lines are working very well. With the obvious problems we have in our defense, will we be able to cope?
Answers and a few valium on a postcard please...

If Kerry made it to the final like Cork have done we would all be fretting over the lack of a meaningful test (no fault of Cork's). We went into the Monaghan match with a 6 week break from competitive football and it was the general consensus that no amount of training matches make up for the real thing. Cork will face Dublin/Kerry in an All-Ireland final with an 8 week break from competitive football (I am counting Louth as their last close call).
They did a very good job in the 20 minutes that Meath were in the match but they did not learn anything new.

They were obviously told to keep the flame burning and to continue with their dogged, tenacious approach (i.e. - Billy Morgan probably told them to keep imagining they were only 2 points up and to play as if that was the case). This, my friend, will stand to them in the final.

I wouldn't go calling the game at this early stage. A lot will depend on the teams named and possibly on the ref.... Meath didn't suddenly become a brilliant team because of beating Tyrone and Cork are still not a bad team after the two previous games. Up to a few weeks ago people were on about the Leinster championship not being competitive yet now there seems to be a change of heart. I would always have said a team are only as good as their last game, which in Corks case isn't great. Isn't it great to be right sometimes....

One thing keeps coming to mind:
Two teams have been there or thereabouts for the past three years and persevered - both hadn't got beyond the semi final stage but both kept coming back more determined in the league the next year - and both set out their stall early this year - All Ireland or bust.
Those two teams:
Cork and Dublin.
Cork are in the final.....

Cork players walking to an almost standstill with the ball with all the time in the world because the Meath players had competely lost interest. Tell me what did they learn today that they did not already know (other than they could have done with Masters who would have slotted those two early frees with his eyes closed . . . although I suspect they knew that already)

You know what makes me most proud of Cork? The way they fought even at the end to keep the ball out of the goal, when really at that late stage it wouldn't have made any difference. They really need to do it again for the final. Still haven't decided who I'd like Cork to be facing.

Lads, Cork needed a big performance today, if Meath had been close, they probably would have got the draw, so Cork had to put them away. They also had to find their form after the two previous games, and that they did.
If I was a Kerry fan I would be worried now, Cork would take Kerry for sure, and that's the first time I've felt that outside of Munster since the back-door began. They look almost the complete team, perhaps the loss of the main free-taker is their achilles heel, if the final is close

Cork's performance today says it all about the standard of Munster this year, I felt it was a high quality Munster final, for various reasons, and this view was vindicated by today's game meath very very poor cork wont have it so easy against kerry or the dubs They were made look poor, but yes, I agree, they were shown up as not being nearly as good as people thought. Still, it was a top quality Cork performance, long & short-game, and their forwards came out of the shadows big time. If I was a Kerry fan I would be worried now, Cork would take Kerry, and that's the first time I've felt that outside of Munster since the back-door began Rashers biy, don't be taking up Cork now. One good game doesn't make a summer....(Or autumn) Rashers biy, don't be taking up Cork now. One good game doesn't make a summer....(Or autumn) Hope you had a good day at the match Abue. I'm not talking anyone up, as always, I'm calling it as I see it. Up until this year, and more especially today, I would have at Cork's prospects against Kerry OUTSIDE OF MUNSTER, but not anymore, they came of age Most people still feel like that about Cork... I could name a few but I really couldn't be bothered. O' Cinnéide article in the Examiner yesterday was on the botton, but then again, it tends to be only Kerry who take Cork seriously... Most people still feel like that about Cork... I could name a few but I really couldn't be bothered. O' Cinnéide article in the Examiner yesterday was on the botton, but then again, it tends to be only Kerry who take Cork seriously... In fairness, yis were muck against them in most of the semis where yis have met, a bit better last year, but not much. However, as regards taking Cork seriously, everyone has always known yis have a wealth of quality players, but getting them playing as a winning team was another story, and only Billy Morgan has really achieved that in the last 30 years yes Kerry have no problem saying we take Cork very seriously. To day I made more money on Gaelic Football than i ever did. 2 Meathemen 3 Dubs a Laois man and a Limerick man (not fair really) are paying up big time. One Dub put it on at half time..he was sober..Tonight he is reflecting on the Landscape a little more...I d expect he will be more conservative in his betting the coming week....

The Rebels to do the business here, but it will be tight. The media has more or less written Cork off completely. They are going into this game with nothing to lose. I believe this is where Cork are going to be at there most dangerous. Yes, they've put in 2 very Mediocre performance's against Louth and Sligo. But there's not much point peaking for those games. It was all about getting the job done. Now is the time to up it a gear or two. I believe Cork will win midfield and this will starve the Meath forwards of the amount of ball they got against Galway and Tyrone. Also the Cork Backs have rarely been found wanting in the last yr or 2. Should be an intriguing battle here." Well lads, i hate to say i told ya so. But all this talk of Meath just didn't add up. Like i said before the game in my post above, Meath beat 2 poor teams before Cork. Also, what was the point in peaking for Sligo and Louth. The result was all that mattered there. This Cork team are learning and getting alot cuter. Reading the Sunday World yesterday, the great Pat Spillane listed it as Dublin, Meath, Kerry and Cork(were only there to make up the numbers). Expert(I'm not sure) Still i expect it to be the Kingdom to meet us in spetember in what should be a mighty All-Ireland final. Does it get any better?

I wouldn't be getting too worried owenabue...Billy and Cork are in an ideal situation now. Thanks to the media and public reaction to Meaths win last sunday and Corks performance, the only way is up now. Defeat and everyone expected it, win and you shock the nation. I'm not trying to talk Cork up but I genuinely believe they have the ability to defeat Meath but....can Cork perform in Croke Park?...as with previous summers, they seem to let their best form in Munster. I think they will deliver this time and defeat meath, with a huge feather in Billys cap but its going to require a tough, hard performance with spirit such as they showed in Killarney. Some of us Kerry folk predicted ye're victory too redisthecolour! Where were all ye're supporters? waiting for the final? well, the waiting is over! hope we'll be there too........

They could have won by 15 points at least yesterday if theyd really gone for it

The game was very poor and not just because it was so one sided in the second half.. If Cork win the All Ireland Final this year..Kerry or Dublin will have to play well below their best.. Meath were very poor.. I thought the standard of play was really terrible..at times. It was described as the worst game of the year and I certainly dont disagree.. Cork with their running game will be a tough enough crack to nut but I dont they they have enough to win the All Ireland..This is the kind of comment they thrive on though so Id better shut up...but to be honest, I think the All Ireland winners will be playing next Sunday... Cork are alright but not great...Simple as that!!

There will still be questions for Cork of course, how will they play when there's more pressure on, how much they miss Masters in a tight game, but regarding yesterday's game, Meath played ok for most of the first half. Then Cork went on to destroy them with a total game. The game was said to be "the worst semi-final for years" because it ended up so one-sided, but this should not take away from Cork's quality of play, they worked some great scores. Regarding "poor games", this game was way above the standard of Cork-Sligo, Dublin-Offaly, and most of the Kerry-Cork All-I semis of the past few years Indeed Meath had a very off day, but you cant ignore that Cork destroyed them without really going full-pelt

The question ,as you well know, doesn't arise today and may well not do so any more this season. I hope to return to the subject in earnest next monday morning and if not then, next year. With the super dubs likely to roll over us, we need to concentrate on doing our best on sunday and not think about what might be etc.

If we dont win the all ireland this year it'll be on the foot of a defeat to either Dublin or Cork, doesnt get much worse than that!

In fairness Joxer you did call it, but there wasn't too many more of your Kerry folk that gave us a hope. This is why it is even more satisfying. Yes the Crowd was small, but Kerry are usually the same at this stage. In fairness, the hardcore Cork football support was there yesterday. I think the Dubs or Kerry will actually sit up and take notice now - and that the All-Ireland won't be won after nxt wknd. Also mrtierneyesq, i wouldn't mind seeing a Cork-Dublin final. I have been impressed all yr by the Dubs and it would bring a whole new freshness to the final. I will b routing for ye the nxt day(but that will b as far as it goes)

Well done Cork. They are a good team with some very talented players.
Will be interesting to see what happens with O'Leary. I expect (and hope) he plays but expect a few strokes to be pulled first.

Maybe so but I'd be amazed if he amends it to a red card, I don't think any ref has ever done that before. He'd make himself very unpopular on Leeside if he did and I'd say he just won't want the hassle. Are they still allowed to keep everyone happy by giving him a 4 week suspension, meaning he'd be back for the final?? ...I can't remember if we have a real discipline system now, or is it as dodgy as ever. i'd imagine they wont visit the oleary incident as after using the boot across galvin in the munster final and thus receiving a suspension for that incident his suspension for a closed fist strike to the head would have to be doubled,i cant see them wanting to be bothered with the hastle, watch them side step it now with the line the ref has dealth with it adequetly.
