it was almost mayo all over again for the dubs against derry, they didn't score for the last 10-15mins, dodgy full back line.
they will play a much more open game than monaghan and our forwards will have more space to run at them esp the half forwards.
the dublin game could suit eoin down to the ground, he'll get plenty of chances to run at the dubs defence.
def think we should start with the full back line that finished the last day.

i suppose it has nothing to do with the fact that mike mac, seamus, eamonn, donal, william and dara all central spinal players have retired in the last 2 or 3 years don't forget Liam -- Hassett that is and Mike aswell, he's a big loss that hasn't been replaced really, hear he's taking up Hurling now, saw himself and Mike Mac enjoying a few pints after Munster Final, they missed out on that for years

good last point buck02.John Sugrue has been getting south kerry to peak for a few weeks at the end of long seasons for the last three years and done so very successfully,he knows a thing or two about peaking late.

Kicks and straight over the bar. Another point for Kerry who are starting to pull away now.

Just heard that John Bannon (Longford) will be ref for one of the semis. Think its Kerryv Dublin, but not 100% sure . Hope its Cork V Meath. If not it might be a bad omen!

If Galvin is fit, then I can't see the half forwards changing.
I wouldn't move Declan from the wing as he's playing very well there.
Brosnan had a bad game but being constantly bypassed by the high ball didn't help him, and when he did put his back into it he gave away a penalty. If he's dropped, who plays centre forward? Sheehan?
I would go for the option of Tommy at centre back with Aidan or Killian in the corner and Reidy losing out.
Scanlon has probably done enough to hold his place, and
Injuries aside, Sheehan should probably be first sub rather than on the starting 15 (MFR and Gooch would look a lot better if the supply of ball wasn't so stubbornly wasted).

I can see the forwards & midfield staying the same but the backs could line up as m o'se o'sullivan o'mahony t o'se griffin young Pretty much agree alhough Sheehan in for MFR for long range frees that the Dubs give away. Also maybe in Full for Tom, Tom moving to corner to replace Reidy and Maybe an O'Mahony/O' Se swap. I think Pat should ask Fitzmaurice back and change tactics. Better ball into Star but Gooch should also be played more often. I agree it's hard for Bros with the ball always bypassing him, hopefully hell make up for a disappointing day last Sunday with a couple of Goals

Oh no this can't be true. We had him last year in the semi against Cork and even then he was trying to help them over the line. There's nobody down for our game yet but Crowe didn't ref a quarter final(neither did Bannon) and he's on duty this weekend so we'll probably get Bannon as well! This is a huge problem in the GAA, the games are shared out between all the refs instead of the best refs getting the most games. If there's any justice Pat McEnaney will get our game but don't bank on it.

Brosnan is the type of centre forward, when on form, could cause this Dublin defence a lot of trouble. Cullen wont relish having to track Brosnan when the ball has gone in over their heads and I think he could feed off Gooch and Donaghy and create goal chances. Perhaps Dublin will try counter-act this by playing Moran between the centre back and full back, not sure.
But will he be "on form" for the Dublin game? Thats the $1m question.

kerry will have to treat this game like an all-ireland final, theres nothing in irish sport like the prospect of playing the dubs in front of 83000 people in croker at the extreme business end of the championship to whit the apetite of a kerry person.
if this doesnt sharply concentrate the minds of all concerned for the next 12 days then not much else will,i'd expect the lads to be sharply focused from here on it,it wont surprise me if the kerry players dont do more than enough to meet the challenge the next day.
These are the days senior kerry intercounty players live for,the clash of these two great tribes and cultures in a packed croker, roll on the 26th.

We're worrying about the ref??
Lads, I'd be more worried about performances to date on and off the pitch than the ref.....
For the second time in six weeks we're putting our head in the sand and ignoring the issues.

even though bros wasnt good enough d last day he was still a threat i av often slated him in d past but he was squeezed out of d game remember d league game a tired bros destroyed cullen and could av ad 2 or 3 goals. i know we cant read toomuch from d league but certain things cannot be denied like jayo beating aidan easily and d gooch causing havoc in a roaming full forward role destroying ross mac. maybe we should borrow a tacic of d dubs and av star roaming in and out of full forward it could cause havoc

Remember in the lead-up to the 03 semi final when we were expecting a "shoot-out" and we were beaten in a dog-fight? I just wonder will the Dubs adapt a similar approach or do they reckon they're good enough to beat Kerry by playing open football?

Has Sean O'Sullivan ever played at centre half forward?
I agree that we need a fast man running straight at Cullen - he has never proven that he can defend going backwards.....ie, with a man going straight at him.....but can Brosnan up his performance the next day? I would love to think he can, but if he can't?
If Galvin doesn't start, it will be probably be Sean Sull and Declan on the wings with Brosnan in the middle. If he can start, well then.....Declan in the middle with Galvin and Sullivan on the wings?

I like to wait for at least a day after a game before I comment - clear the head – let the emotions get back down to terra firma. First, I’m glad I was wrong about the result; the King is still alive – just!
The positive thing is we faced the ugliest brand of Northern football imaginable and we never buckled. Despite the hard and at times over physical approach of our opponents, Kerry were a sea of calm during the crucial last five minutes.
Can we beat Dublin? Yes, but only if we get the match up’s right.
Aidan O’Mahony has to go into the fullback line. The two Brogans brothers will take serious watching – Marc O Se on Alan Brogan, Aidan O’Mahony on Bernard Brogan – these match up’s give will us a very secure base. Tommy Griffen has to come in at centre back – didn’t we look a different team when he came in on Sunday. Declan O’Sullivan (already an All-Star this year in my opinion) has to be our centre forward. Jack O’ Connor got stick for picking his club mate Declan O’Sullivan last year – during the qualifiers and semi final - Declan was dropped. I think Pat O’Shea is now in a similar position – he has to make the hard call about Brosnan who should not start in my opinion based on poor performances. One thing, I can’t stand is people telling me the selectors must judge on who performs in training, I don’t buy into that totally, you judge on matches as well, real matches not training matches, and this is what separates the men from the boys – whose up for it? – Who really has the hunger? No amount of training will really tell you that until you’re facing the white heat of battle. I was impressed with the Byran Sheehan who grabbed his chance – what a talent – people should remember all the chances O’Cinneide got to establish himself. I think Byran deserves a start but then again the same argument could be made for Darren and Sean O’Sullivan. But, having seen club games and County Championship games in Kerry – Sheehan is deadly accurate from play and from frees and is a really heavy gun to have in any side. Just, look at Vaughan for Dublin and how his come right, I would start Byran Sheehan – as I said earlier in the year his free taking ability alone may prove vital yet. Contrary to some views, I though Scanlon did well, he got a fair amount of possession and did the sensible things. Perhaps, he lacks a bit of confidence to express and attack the play a bit more, but that can be put right. I would go with Scanlon again with Dara.

Haven't posted here in a while, but I just got sick of logging on and being told that the forum was down. Anyhew, this would be my team for the Dubs match.
Murphy Marc, TO'S, Aidan Tomás, Griffin(If fit), Killian Dara, Seamus, SO'S/Darren, Declan, Galvin (If fit) Gooch, Kieran, MFR
Thats all the tinkering that we need. Brosnan would be great from the bench, but I doubt O'Shea has the neck to drop him. Perhaps the Dublin game will suit him but for me Sean O'Sullivan or Darren would do more damage. Putting Griffin at 6 may be risky but I'm sure he would be up for it if he's 100%. MFR is on a last warning for me. While he was v.good against Cork, against Monaghan he bottled out of a number of situations were he could have won good possession for us in dangerous positions. Sheehan could replace him early if he's not up to it. Being fair to MFR he needs the right delivery.

The Declan thing was building for far longer - for two years prior to that so there was a great deal more frustration, and a far greater sense of delight when he was taken off last year. However, if Brosnan starts, doesn't play well and isn't taken off quickly, Pat will be questioned yes.

just for the record pat has taken off eoin twice in his first three championships games as manager,it took jack 2 and 3 quarter seasons to do just that.
i think this pat, eoin undercurrent that is developing here is leaving a lot to be desired in fairness.

I'll question it kerrygold when a player, any player, is left on the field, or in a poor position, for longer than is necessary. This is the weakness on the sideline - maybe they don't want to make the changes, but every time, they have been obvious ones that are made eventually when we've dug ourselves into more trouble than we should be in.

kerry won the game stacks,i got the feeling during the game the lads on the sideline werent panicing but waiting to see if we would pull through, they got it spot on in the end and the subs worked well,i thought kerry and the line were superb in the last 10 minutes.

If all fit, Brosnan should be dropped and Declan plays no 11. He will give Cullen the run round I believe. Brosnan looks tired and the confidence is low.
Would also take Reidy out of the firing line and play Griffen if fit.

I believe Brosnan has been carrying an injury (or at least had been) which has effected him. I'd prefer to see him rest and get himself fixed as he is doing himself no favours. There is little to match a fit Eoin Brosnan racing through the defence and sticking the ball in the net, if he is fit enough to do it on Sunday week I'd start him, if he's not in a fit state to do so then I'd prefer to see him held in reserve.

Keith Barr has a very good piece in todays indo.
One of his points is that the Kerry management...... in its first big game in Croke Park made shrewd substitutions while Paul Caffrey ....... in his sixth year in managemnet got his substitutions wrong.
Give Pat o Shea a break for f........ sake

Agree with exile.
Unlike Kerrygold, I don’t feel there is any undercurrent against Eoin Brosnan. If Eoin was at his best and performed to his capabilities we would all be delighted. But let’s be honest, this is not about personalities, sentiment, or club alliances, this is about winning an All-Ireland – nothing more. Brosnan’s form has been erratic before, his lost his starting place before, and on this season’s form doesn’t deserve to start at the moment. Moreover, any player would be hurt after being dropped to the bench but I would expect a player of Eoin’s calibre to give the right reaction as Declan has done. Has Declan O’Sullivan not improved immeasurably? Kerry has the talent to win an All-Ireland – but the players in form and performing must be picked on merit.

I would say that Justin McCarthy regrets taking off John Mullane lastt sunday....... and Gerald McCarthy regrets taking off Jerry o Connor the previous sunday ........ and Big Joe regrets taking off Geeser in that semi final against armagh in 2005. You have to be careful that you dont give the opposition a boost by making a substitution.

It's obvious Reidy and Brosnan were not motoring well on Sunday - any man, woman or child could see that from early in the game. They were replaced but after 50 odd minutes.....it was obvious well before that.....
Maybe there is a reason the managment hold out - I can't figure out what it might be though.

In fairness re making changes in the backs we don't have a lot to work with on the bench. This is in complete contrast to the options we have for the attack.
Also those who are criticising that the substitutions were made late ok but did they not all work?
Plus theres an element that people seem to miss if you don't get a lot of breaks in the middle of the field as we didn't for a good part of the game it follows that your back line will be under pressure and your forward line suffers as well.
Why did we not get these breaks? It might have beena lack of hunger or ring rustiness. I expect both factors to be absent against Dublin if not we can forget it.

Aye because Kerry's constant hoofing it in to Donaghy was just glorious, especially when the finest forward in Ireland is on your team. Monaghan are a very physical team-similar to the challenges on Tyrone players in the Ulster Final, this whole thing of "that's northern football" is silly. Isn't it a bit contradictory to say it is the ugliest brand imaginable, then just say they were "at times over-physical," make your mind up. The whole heavy hits from Monaghan is nothing to do with the rest of Ulster, maybe Armagh. Monaghan have been fantastic this year, and they have a lot of good players, but is it the same old thing that if a team from the north puts it up to Kerry it's just because of their over-zealous defending.
