I said it after the Antrim match, that in the last ten minutes I could see things clicking into place. Once I saw that, from then on I had a quiet optimism about me. Remember, this is the Kerry team. A team with more heritage, more togetherness and mainly, more football than anyone else in the country. To say I'm a proud Kerry man would be an understatement. I am not from Kerry, Kerry is a part of me. What courses through my veins is green and gold of the Kingdom. I never thought I was all that lucky, but by jaysus, God was smiling at me when he gave me the greatest gift of all, to be a Kerry man! I've been mocked for where I'm from for a long, long time. They could beat me down for my county, they could lock me up, they could torture me. Tell you one thing, I'll never be anything other than Kerry! UP THE KINGDOM, FOREVER!

My wife, god love her, is French and was slightly bemused by the weekend's goings-ons. This became heightened when she thought that I was being fanatical having the geansai and the scarf laid out waiting to begin the ritual. Later in the day, some time after the final whistle and me reaching cloud 9, I was asked what all the fuss was about as it was only a match. Now thank god we won because such a question is beneath anyone even a spouse. The only way that I could make her understand was by saying that Kerry is part of us and that our connection with it is almost visceral. Football is the ultimate expression of our identity and we feel its fortunes acutely like a tide that rises and falls. I think it was Kieran Donaghy that gave a mention to Kerry people around the world and it was nice to hear because we suffer and rejoice as much as people at home. Again Lads thanks, or as Lou Reed put it "Just a Perfect Day"!

Next time she says that tell her it's as much "only a match" as she is 'only' a collection of skin, bone and other assorted gunk.
The French are real romantics so I'm sure she'll love it.

Watched the full game on TV for the first time last night. Have to say Martin Kearney is so biased against Kerry its unbelieveable. Every Kerry free was "soft" in his book. Saying I still think Cork can will this game/get a goal right to the end. Whats with these Mayo fellows himself and McStay? Are they bitter cos they didnt win anything? If you add in Tommy Lyons theres a lot of Mayo guys on TV with no medals but big big opinions. spot on, Kearney was bitter as hell which is always good, I bet he lost a lot of money too, lol lol lol

I know I certainly did and judging my Weeshie and co's comments on Monday I don't think it was just women crying, one of the most emotional wins ever...

Just about getting my voice back, what a weekend. Congrats to Jack, Darran and the lads. The backs were outstanding all through, you couldn't say any one of them was beaten by their direct opponent. Great display from Scanlon who is one of the most under-rated players in the country, his distribution was excellent. Darragh again showed why he is one of the greatest players of his era even after 81 Championship appearances. Declan, Tommy , Tadhg and Paul all had stormers. Darran worked very hard and kept miskella completely out of the game, Gooch won some vital frees and his free-taking off both legs was impeccable. special mention to Jack too who had his tactics spot on and blotted out all of corks big players.
We have been privileged to witness the Kerry teams of the past 10-15 years They have provided some of the greatest days of my life and I thank everyone of them (both past and present) for it.
Also I'd just like to encourage everyone (who can) to get involved with your local GAA clubs in any way you can, support the teams, sell/buy GAA lotto tickets, whatever.. We have been handed down this legacy and we must ensure this love for the game is passed down to future generations. Although from the evidence on this forum I don't think we have have anything to worry about.
Even though its not a GAA poem, days like Sunday always remind of the words of Sigerson Clifford
I AM KERRY
I am Kerry like my mother before me, And my mother's mother and her man. Now I sit on an office stool remembering, And the memory of them like a fan Soothes the embers into flame. I am Kerry and proud of my name.
. . .
'Twas thus I lived, skin to skin with the earth, Elbowed by the hills, drenched by the billows, Watching the wild geese making black wedges, By Skelligs far west and Annascaul of the willows. Their voices came on every little wind, Whispering across the half-door of the mind, For always I am Kerry...

Has anybody got a copy of the game on CD, I had it on Sky + but it got deleted by accident. I know it is available online but the quality or screen size is not the same as watching it on TV.

Check out the torrent thread. if you have a half decent pc or laptop you should be able to download and burn onto dvd.

have to say also, i had watery eyes as the whislte blew. dont know why, but after last year and all the craic thats supposed to have happened, supposed i feel it was the best ever. and beating cork made it more special, expecially as we were underdogs by many.

erra, its very easy to post that kind of stuff behind internet anonymity. Theres a few of them in every county but i reckon they know deep down that they wern't good enough on the day. Like yourself, any of the Cork folk i have met since have been very gracious.

I found them to be very quiet and humble after - so much expectation but the same oh same oh after - Can Cork come back from this??? It wil be a testament to them if they can. anyone know what some of the Cork boys had written on their wrists - much like what Portumna had on for the club final this year? ? Not sure if they all had but Canty and Shields had in any case

Aren't we bloody hilarious when you stop and think about it. A famine of the minimum number of years possible and we greet its end like some amazing and miraculous thing! Weaker counties must weep when they see the passion and hunger and joy shown in winning our 36th final and 5th this decade. Wouldn't swap it for anything in the world.
Was in the gym today for 1st time since the match trying to sweat some of the porter out of me. I was struggling I can tell you. Then U2's Beautiful Day came on the iPod. Started thinking about Darragh winning his 6th, Mike Mac coming back, Tadghie achieving his dream and I tell ya I wasn't long turning the speed up on the treadmill with a sudden burst of energy and a stupid grin on my face. People must've thought I was demented. Still smiling 3 hours later.

still think Cork will win one of the next couple of championships, they are on the up, no doubt and while the defeat is not easy to take, their younger forwards will have learned an awful lot from that, plenty teams take their beatings on the way up, believe cork will come good in the near future
