Congrats to my First Cousin Tom'O on getting a deserved Man of the Match for the All Ireland; not just for yesterday I feel but on a mighty powerful display throughout the season - FAIR PLAY CIARRAI.... I was there and was nearly the first onto the pitch; the outpouring of emotion from Players and Fans alike was unbelievable; even better than 2007 when I was there... This was a much sweeter victory over vocal Cork; 70th/100th/125th GAA Anniversaries - pretty Amazing County that we were born in guys!  Good joke to make you all giggle Richard Branson wanted to sponsor the cork football team next year but the GAA would not agree to the word virgin on the shirts of a team that get f***'d by Kerry every year! |

Just back home from the weekend in Dublin ..... what a fantastic achievement .... so proud of the lads, each and every member of the panel, management and backroom team played their part to deliver a 36th title and bring Sam back to his rightful home in the Kingdom!
As others have said, woke up this morning with the sense that all was right in the world again .... we have had such a great adventure following this tremendous bunch of lads .... highlights from this year are many .... from the feeling that the season had turned when we walked across O'Connor Park in Tullamore after the Antrim game .... to the sight of Darren, Darragh, Tadhg and co lift Sam on the Hogan Stand yesterday evening before a sea of green and gold.

so proud to be a kerry man...this team is amazing.they have brought us through every emotion you can feel this year and they still manage to make every soul happy in the kingdom in the end.how did we ever doubt this team,i feel i let them down by questioning them earlier in the year but now i can say lads ye are fuc*in the best players that have ever graced this land.that is nor up for debate,it is FACT.
Thanks again lads for a brilliant day, weekend, month, year and DECADE.

What a party in Dublin last night, I was never so happy to be hungover today. What a performance by this team, as I stood soaking in the swamp that was Pearse park, Longford, having watched the star being carted off, I was fairly sure that our season was going to end prematurely. Yet, here we are, All Ireland champions for the 36th time! Incredible and some feat by a wonderful group of players. What stood out for me yesterday was the way the team played for each other, their work rate for each other was amazing, you would think that it was they who hadn't won an all Ireland for 19 years.
We are indeed privileged to have such a fine collection of footballers with absolute oceans of character in each and every one of them. Tomás O Sé was playing his 8th final this decade and he was magnificent, as were Griffin, Tom Sull,Marc and Tommy Walsh. Most honourable mention of all, for me, must be to Séamus Scanlon. He went through an amount of ball and if he doesn't get an All Star then you can throw your hat at it completely.
There was huge emotion on the pitch afterwards and it was easy to be moved by the sight of Tadhg Kennelly collecting his medal.
This management team had their homework done on Cork big time, Quirke had to go straight and direct with his kick outs. They tried the Pierse O Neill tactic on several occasions but Mike Mac haunted his every step. It says so much about Mike Mac that he was only too willing to curb his attacking forays for the greater good of the team.Paddy Kelly was neutralised, Canty curbed, as was Kerrigan. Ironically, Cork ended up the team that had the problem with free taking! Was Kennelly injured when he came off? Can't understand why he came off, unless, of course, he was injured.
The game and the experience of losing a final will stand to this Cork team, they will better be able to deal with the big day next time round. However, their forwards were not as clinical as ours, that was hinted at in earlier games and cruelly exposed yesterday.
As Jack O Connor said earlier, it will shorten the winter in Kerry. It will shorten the winter here too and brighten up the dark days. An ríocht abú, go deo!

Lads, I can't put it into words, I've never enjoyed a win as much and to top it all off last night Tomás O'Sé just amazed me at the D4. He was such a gent at the after match do, so unassuming and he sagely said "sure it makes the winter nights alot shorter girl", he was a pure gent and Seamus Scanlon great craic altogether trying to find Darragh for me... hoping my sister will get the photos to me and great with Tom O'S and Tomás....I don't know how to express myself to be honest, I'm back in Plymouth with a sprained back from dancing last night but the biggest smile on my face.....

Wow .. what a feeling. Many thanks and congratulations to the Kerry team and management on such an amazing achievement, it really lights a match to the hog wash that has been written about this team over the years. Some great performances but I don't want to single anyone out as this was truly a team effort from the very start of the year.

Fairytale stuff. I read Billy Keanes article in the paper on Saturday - touching and poignant stuff. All doubts in mind as to Sundays outcome were erased. Tadgh, you deserve it old stock.
Galvin, deservedly, without a doubt will get player of the year. Sensational turnaround. You couldnt write it. There's no legislating for Kerry on their day.
An incredible season.

My first final missed since 2000 but in CIT today you could not move without seeing a Kerry jersey.

What a great day. The craic in d4 hotel was unreal, the sweat was hopping off everyone cause they were dancing so much. Although i was a small bit disappointed that all the players and sam did'nt appear on stage.

Congrats to this wonderful kerry team who have served us loyally over the last 10 years,and given us supporters some glorious days in both victory and defeat
From that old war horse Darragh who never ceases to amaze us with his engine,power, and coolness under pressure, did you ever see such a brillant footpasser of the ball. 6 medals I believe you can go on to emulate the greats by winning 8. There is surely 2 years left in you, maybe not the full 70 mins, but you still have a role to play no matter how big or small, You above all owe Kerry nothing. It is in fact the opposite we owe you Everything !
To Tadhg you have sacraficed so much to fulfill a boyhood dream ( every kerry boyhood dream) you have proved to the world what it means to win an All Ireland for your county, You did your family proud Nuala( mother) siblings Noel & Joanne, and not forgetting that great gael your Grandmother Margaret, God bless you Timmy there's great bloodstock in you Horse!
On one of the most emotional All Irelands ever we as supporters should bask in the glory that is Kerry of the '00s and name this team the 'MILLENIUM MASTERS' as they have finally broken the chains around the GOLDEN YEARS team .

What a game, what a day, what a weekend what a team. My chest is bursting with pride to be a Kerryman , I am in absolute awe of this team. We are so indebted to these great men for that is what they are, GREAT MEN, each and every one of them.
They were driven to excel on the big day and all of them played out of their skins. I can't thank them enough for giving us so much joy. We are extremely lucky to have such a magnificent team in our midst, and should thank each and everyone associated with the squad for their sacrifice and efforts.

Don't know if any of you have heard this story yet, but I loved it. And it comes from the relatives in Glenbeigh so it has to be true!  On one of the days leading up to the weekend the local sergeant in Glenbeigh, (Twiss I think), had to ring headquarters for some traffic signage to prepare for the following weeks homecoming, should Kerry win of course.  And guess who picked up at the other end of the line?? None other than Garda James Masters himself. How awkward was that conversation? ;D |

I could not get around to writing this report yesterday. I spent the day walking around aimlessly, paralysed by pride and ecstasy. The beautiful weather of Listowel Race Week carried on to Sunday to coincide with the thirty sixth lap of honour in Kerry's Mecca. What more could an old man wish for?
I arrived for the second half of the minor match. Armagh have several fine prospects. They will not be in the doldrums for long. The older I get the more impatient I am becoming with the All-Ireland final pageantry. The incessant beating of the drums had my nerves jangling. The parade is enough for me and then get with it. How do the players compose themselves?
I was in Canal End and had a bird's eye view of the calamitous opening ten minutes. Tommy seemed to slip for the goal and I thought Diarmuid could have done better. (I am writing this without the benefit of seeing the video) In any case, things were looking bleak in general and for Tommy Griffin in particular. He had conceded 1-1 and the match was only a pup yet. What were management thinking? Needless to say, Veteran would have switched Tommy before Cork were out of sight. Lucky for Kerry, Veteran was in the Canal End while Jack patrolled the sideline. Management held their nerve. They obviously knew Tommy better than that old moaner, Veteran. Did Tommy repay their faith or did he repay their faith!!.
It was clear from the outset that our backs, Tommy apart, were going to make their direct opponents fight for a sniff of a score like they never had to fight all the year. This was imperative because they were being opposed by top of the range forwards. Gradually Kerry exerted a grip all over the field and the scores started to accrue.
At half time, in spite of protestations to the contrary, Cork must have been very worried. In spite of their whirlwind start they had been reeled in . The Kerry/Croke Park spectre must have loomed menacingly large as they resumed their places. However, the Kerry backs continued where they left off. They blocked, they harried, they fetched and they marshaled their opponents down cul-de-sacs. It was a master class. All this took place at the Hill 16 End. Accordingly, I could not clearly identify who was performing particular feats but what mattered was that a green and gold figure was emerging with ball. More often than not it is the Kerry forwards who get chief billing but this was a day where the backs, by and large, claimed most of the glory.
Diarmuid has had a remarkable year. Indisputably, his form dipped significantly last year. It is a remarkable achievement to reinvigorate himself at his age. Remember, Veteran would not have had him on the panel at the start of the year. I will move quickly on.
It never ceases to amaze me how the mind influences players. Marc and Tom O'Sullivan were uncertain full backs but move them a few yards sideways and they approach invincibility. They needed to be as good as they were because they were confronted by two crack corner forwards.
I have referred to the power of the mind and in nobody was this better illustrated than in Tommy Griffin. Here was a man who conceded 1-1 when the game was a mere pup. What was going through that man's mind at that stage. He must have been glancing in the direction of the sideline. However, he seems to said to himself - enough is enough. He simply gave everything he had from then on. It was a remarkable transformation which must have required incalculable mental resolve. Possibly, his most significant contribution ever to the cause.
Tomas is truly remarkable. Truly inspirational. Of course, what would you expect from an O'Se. Killian was his usual elegant self. I expressed a view on this Forum last week that I had no fears about the Mike McCarthy/Pearse O'Neill duel. That is the way it transpired. The quiet man, as always, was the essence of efficiency.
Seamus Scanlon carries on a long line of what I would describe as the coal miner Kerry midfielder. I mean by this, that down the decades Kerry's midfield is often composed of a glittering midfielder who digs for gold and a less flashy creature who mines for coal. Examples would be Mick O'Connell/Seamus Murphy; Mick O'Connell/Mick Fleming; Jacko/Sean Walsh and Ambrose; Darragh/Donal Daly and William Kirby and finally Darragh/Seamus Scanlon. The gold digger is the eye catcher whereas the coal miner is often unappreciated for a long time. Seamus has graduated to the appreciated stage.
The old trooper from back west made an invaluable input in the first half. Six medals in the modern era is an incredible haul. Darragh now moves to the pantheon where only the true ,legendary figures of Kerry football reside.
Paul was indefatigable and Darren, as always, was impish and gutsy. Tadhg gave a power packed display and his overall contribution this year has been immense. I am baffled by his substitution. Somebody suggested that he had nothing left. That would be surprising in view of this previous professional status.
For probably the first time in his career Colm got a bit of fair play from the referee. It has baffled me for several years how Anthony Lynch, a fine player, got away with so much holding off the ball. Once the yellow card was brandished it was curtains for Anthony. It is ironic that Colm was impeccable from frees whereas Cork tended to be erratic in that department. It is a strange old game. I was astonished when it was announced that Kieran O'Connor was starting for Cork. I have never thought that he was inter county standard. However, to pit him against Declan was inexplicable. No contest. Declan is as good as any forward I have seen playing for Kerry. I am thrilled for Tommy Walsh. This is another man with nerves of steel. Four points is a huge tally on a day when scores were at a premium.
The Cork team is littered with fine footballers. Surely it is only a matter of time before their efforts are rewarded. They played the consistently best football over the year but if you want to win the steeplechase you must jump the final fence. I heard Marrtin McHugh on the radio yesterday describing them as "chokers". What an obnoxious term from a reprehensible little man. He attempted to justify the term when describing an effort by Doncha O'Connor. He berated Doncha for an effort when he twisted and turned and eventually had his kick blocked down by Marc. Mr. McHugh felt that Doncha should have cut in for goal. I suspect if Mr. McHugh was confronted by Marc or TO'S at the top of their game a lot of his tabloid friends would also describe him as a choker. Get out of it.
So, it has been turbulent year. Jack got most of his calls right and Veteran got most of his wrong. The same as it has ever been.

Great post Veteran. Just one comment on the Cork goal. I, like you, had a slight question about Diarmuid's positioning, before I watched the replay. Suffice to say, there is no question about it, but it was a sublime finish and there really wasn't much more Diarmuid could have done. Considering that Tommy Griffin was unfortunate to slip on a surface that had fellas falling all over the place, (See sequence near the end where Donaghy and Donnacha both fell beside each other on the same spot on the Hill 16 end of the pitch) Diarmuid had no option but to come out and close the angle. Colm O'Neill put the ball in the only available spot possible between Diarmuid's outstretched foot and arms. A quality goal, from a quality player.
