I know hes played all season midfield with kerry and formed a good alliance with dara.. A lot of people on this forum would like to see brosnan at midfield for the championship.. Against a northen team with brosnan at midfield and donaghy at full forward it would give us anumber of options..
1. Brosnan could use his pace to bring the ball out of defence before the dreaded balnket defence gets time to funnell back.
2. High ball could be hit into star over the blanket defence.. Hes one of the best fielders in the game and as such his role in full forward could bring people into the game. Fetching a high ball and laying it off to inrushing players like gooch or brosnan is bound to result in a few scores. Most teams wud use a sweeper to counter act this freeing up space further out the field.. Allowing tom see amd mahony to push forward ad well as midfielders for a couple of long range points

Dunno Lolly I'd worry about his ability to use the ball when he does get it in there. Sheahan for me is probably a better option but then again I feel he is better out the pitch too.

Jack O'Connor brought Quirke on in 2000 in Munster Under 21 semi v Waterford didn't really work at all the memory of losing to waterford will probably stop him trying a stunt like that again. Limerick v Waterford Under 21 final that year - the Revolution Years!!

What? O'Connor wasn't U21 manager in 2000. That was 2003 and Quirke was overage at that stage.

While Donaghy is a fantastic fielder of the ball he doesnb't really seem, in my humble opinion, to have the requisite skills for the full forward position. his shooting is wayward and he is not the quickest. I don't see the merit of throwing a fella in ne of the key attacking positions just so we can throw high ball in on top of him. he needs more than that. Have it as a plan b (or c) maybe when we need to pull a game out of the fire but I wouldn't do it from the start.

Eoin Ferris of laune rangers cleaned him out last Saturday night before the lights went out in Stacks Park. They had to move donaghy back out to get some use out of him. Keep him midfield in my opinion, he is doing as well as any partner of Dara's in recent years (apart from Kirby).

yes brosnan midfield is a good idea, but not a hope is donaghy good enough for full forward, this is the kerry team were talking about with forwards on the bench that would make any team in the country so why try transform a midfielder!!!!!!! Donaghy has played well midfield thats his position not full forward!

Donaghy has played well midfield thats his position not full forward! I think this is a misconception that is not true at the moment. Our forward subs are: Ronan O'Connor - and he might start Darren O'Sullivan Paddy Kelly Paul O'Connor Seamie Foley Ronan Hussey How many of these would get one the Tyrone, Armagh or even the Dublin team right now?

Aodan Macgearailt, Sean O Sullivan and MFR are subs as of now too so if u add them to Darren O Sullivan and Paddy Kelly to a lesser extent you can see that our replacements in the forwards aren't that bad..
These are my starting forwards.. Galvin, Brosnan, Sullivan Gooch, Declan O Sullivan, Brian Sheahan..
That leaves you with MacGearailt, Darren O Sullivan, MFR, Ronan O Connor to come in..

mfr sean sull darren sull ronan paul o connor paddy kelly seamie
all very good forwards and all worth there place on the panel, if you saw one of these boys coming on you wouldnt say that the team would be worse for it would you, there are players out there not on the panel that would be a better option as a forward then donaghy would be like: leary from crokes, a good full forward adrian o connor glenbeighglencar would be a better option if you need some one to mix it up with the tyrones and armaghs, donnacadh walsh cromane can play full forward, colm kearns milltown good target man for full forward noel kennelly strong man with the experience

Yes, no point panicking about putting players in their right positions or whetever yet..
Its still early enough..
Donaghys performances in Munster will tell a lot...as of course will everybody's anyway. Keep him at midfield for now until or if chinks appear.. Same goes for Marc O Shea at fullback and probably Fitzmaurice at 11..
I wonder if Fitzmaurice on the forty will last Munster..Personally I doubt it..

Donaghy might be able to catch a ball but once he gets to ground with it he'll be eaten alive by the likes of Derry, Tyrone, Armagh and even the Dubs. Also, he wont find it as easy to go up for a ball when the half forwards and half backs are blocking his runs for kickouts.

Prsonally id be horrified to see paddy kelly or ronan o connor coming on in the forwards..especially paddy kelly.....Hes too small for intercounty midfield..

The whole pint of him full forward is that he wont have to run onto the ball..He has one of the best standing jumps in the country.. I've seen him countless times catch a ball over a 6'9 /6'10 american under the boards in a basketball game from a standing jump.. Dont bother with this crap about basketball not being physical because under the boards its every bit a physical as gaelic football... He doesnt need to score... Just lay the ball off to the inrushing forwards.. If we're going to play the long high sky scraper in we might as well have someone in there that can catch or do something productive with it

If he plays full-forward then teams will do what Laois did in the League semi-final i.e. when he's in possession 20 or 30 yards from goal, ignore him and concentrate on not letting any of the forwards get a pass from him.

you need your full forward to score aswell and he hasnt shown thus far that he can, declan is alot better choice at full forward then donaghy im not saying that declan is the best choice for there but he is a better option then donaghy, aodhan could also be an option

I wouldnt mind seeing aodhan in there..In fairness u cant let a fella alone 30 yards from goal no matter how bad u think he is at shhoting...Its nthing a couple of nights kicking around in the park with gooch and russell would sort out for him

when the bomber came on the sence he couldn't kick or solo the ball very well either, micko spent countless hours working with him one on one in waterville after his days work teaching in the local school.he retired as accomplished as any of the great kerry forwards on the ball. this is just a suggestion, dont tear the head of me,are we becoming very black and white in our selections and thoughts on kerry football. For me the traits that marked boylan and o dywer out as the best managers of the last 30 years was there ability to see the vast colour picture behind the black and white version.

Ah Kerrygold dont tell me you're trying to compare Donaghy to the Bomber?

he's similar in size and build to the young bomber when he first came on the sence, same level of football kicking skills also, dont know what goes on between donaghys ears though.

Kieran is a good footballer its just a lack of consitency in his shooting that may prevent him from maling it at full forward..im not from stacks but i have seen a few of their games and he scoring performances can range from prolific to poor..I think its more of a confidence think with his shooting but this can easily be rectified by a couple of nights one on one with a forward or kicking coach

If hes in fullforward hell nearly be able to punch the ball over ther bar.jus cos d lad is not all that confident to shoot after bombing in from midfield does not mean he cant score atall. throwing him in a full is always an good option,if he was put in there im sure hed do a good as the mighty declan

Maybe it might be an option but teams will suss it out too. His distribution isn't good enough yet in my view and if crowded out with the ball I'm not sure if his footballing intelligence would shine through. At the same time it might be an option and no one else seems to have made that spot their own. It could also be a good way of overcoming the sweeper system at the same time I dunno would his contribution be as good as people make out and I think we need a more natural forward who can distribute the ball to the corners like Cinneide in his prime.

Kerrygold is right about the bomber...... he developed his footballing skills late as do a lot of tall players...... niall quinn in soccer being an example.

Star has gelled well with Darragh. No need to move him. The concept of Paddy kelly in fullforward was not something I would have thought of but now that it is out there is could work. He is strong enough and agree with lolly with his ability for standing jumps. It worth a try. But we are not the manager or selectors

Doesnt look very likely judging by the team that jack put out for sunday...the team is more or less fine...only gripe i would have is that declan is playing full forward but he was never going to be dropped anyway.
