leave Donaghy where he is at midfield. Himself & Dara doing just fine. dont see him as having potential at full forward.

From what I've seen this year, he's doing better at midfield than I think he could ever do at FF => Leave him where he is.

please god NO!!!!!! he can catch, certainly, however he is inconsistent in holding onto the ball and often ends up breaking it for th eopponents. but when he goes to score i cover ny eyes- he could land it anywhere! if he is our alternative at FF then, dec, stay where u are, all is forgiven!

Couldnt help but notice how Donaghy does seem to pop up in full forward every now and then. There were occasions against Galway and against Waterford. Cant remember if they ended up in scores. Is Jack telling him to wander every now and then

Tis a sad day in football when Kerry cannot field an out and out full forwad. Its rubbish to think Donagh can fit this mantle, he is doing fine midfield so let him there please. Dec spends most of his time roaming between the halfback line to halfforward line so, Jack should pick him there or just drop him, HE IS NOT A FULL FORWARD... PERIOD. What we need is a sturdy, bulky fella who can contest those high balls and who actually stays in the fullforward line....... People like Aodhan, Quirke (I can feel the backlass already), even Cooper, or Fitzmaurice. He in my view fits the bill better at full forward than at centre.

Ya Donaghy looked class yesterday but with all due respect to Longford his real ability as a full forward can be fully judged after coming up against a battle hardened Armagh side. Heres hoping from more of the same though

Do ye not think lads that Star will relish the chance to test himself against the glass eating, red headed giant killer Francie?
Of course he will. I really thing there could be some fun had on Saturday between those two boys. If Star can keep his cool, I think he could get the match of Francie. Francie never had pace so don't say he has slowed down. But he has a great knack of getting to the ball with, or ahead of his man, of getting a hand in and breaking it away, with inevitably somebody like Enda McNulty nearby to sweep up the ball and begin the counter attack through McGeeney. But one thing Francie hasn't come across too much in recent times is a lanky cloud catcher. It could be a really interesting battle.

I obviously take back at what I said above. He will start at FF the next day and best of luck to him there.

One swallow doesnt make a summer Lolly! I just hope all the hype all week doesnt effect him, if we've any chance on Saturday Donaghy will need to cause havoc for the Armagh full back line. My other concern is that he'll lose the cool when he gets belted, kicked, pulled, dragged etc. I'm sure JOC will have sat him down and made this point clear so hopefully there will be no more red cards. Still if we can get the right kind of ball in and if he gets a good start to the game we could be in for another headline grabbing display from the Star!

After all what would roy keane have to offer on a football pitch if you took away his agression. if donaghys aggression can be chanelled in the right direction i think he can make a top class target man. next saturday will be part of the learning curve,it wouldn't surprise me if he got man of the match,if he does we wil be in clover. one thing for sure,he wont be afraid of francie bellew or any other francie for that matter either. tear into them donaghy and give it a blast.

Well said Kerrygold. If he can field a high ball in the FF line for every belt he gets he'll be canonised in Kerry.

Armagh to deal with threat of Donaghy From Hoganstand
Former Armagh players Jarlath Burns and Brian Canavan feel Armagh will contain the threat of Kerry full forward Kieran Donaghy.
Canavan feels the positioning of Donaghy has brought Kerry back to the “Bomber Liston” days but says that Francie Bellew should handle the situation better than Longford did.
“Donaghy has moved into full forward and it reminded me of the old Kerry team when the ’Bomber’ would use to play at full forward.
“Whether that works in the modern era against a team with an experienced defence like Armagh, I’m just not so sure.
“Armagh have a week to work at it and I think Francie Bellew at full back will be a lot tighter than the Longford full back was,” said the former county manager.
Former star Jarlath Burns, who worked with Donaghy when he was involved with the Underdogs team in 2004, believes the Armagh defence will be a tight unit on Sunday and that the game may even throw up a red card or two.
“Francie Bellew had an excellent championship so far and will relish the high ball challenge. Enda McNulty will also introduce his own special talents to Colm Cooper and won’t be interested in any reciprocal demonstration.
“Andy Mallon will just love being taken out round the 40 by Mike Frank.
“I expect a fairly bad tempered match with even a sending off or two, but it should prove to be an absorbing contest,” explained Burns.

Ciarrai33: It means McNulty is going to check out Gooch's private parts and will not expect the recieve the same treatment in response

I find it amusing that the next manager of the Armagh senior football team is condoning physical abuse by players on the pitch.
At least we'll all know what to expect when Jarlaths first team runs out onto the pitch, thus negating any surprise element. Smarth man Jarlath.

It's a pretty bad article that basically describes what puke football is. In any case if Donaghy can win half the ball he did against Longford and if Gooch can continue to improve it will be very close. The real battle though is in MF. Dara has to play well and try to compete for the full 70 minutes. Also the start will be of major importance. If Armagh get ahead of us early they will employ this blanket rubbish and just squeez us for the whole game and possibly not score alot themselves but win by a few points.
However if we get ahead of them early the game could become alot more open and suit us more.

Are ye sure he will be full forward? I hope so anyway.. .. Our midfield was under pressure there the last day...I think moving Moynihan midfield, Fitz in and starting Donaghy FF is the way to go...
There is always the option of bringing him out midfield if needed..
I am a bit concerned about his temperament though.. Especially if he is FF he will prob gets lots of abuse, etc...He has a tendency to do silly things like lash out or make high tackles...
I think Armagh have seen this and will target his temperament..
Lets hope he will rise above it.. and play a stormer...Fingers Crossed..
His role and impact on Sunday will have a massive outcome for the result on Saturday me thinks..

This is mirroring a lot of what is on the Armagh forum. They are pretty much saying they will win if the ref doesn't play by the book.
(Also, they are mostly confident that they will beat us unless we improve by 50%).

Theres a lot of talk of Francie taking Donaghy next saturday. Francie is a big step up from the Longford full back but I bet Francie will be resorting to alot of fouling: pulling/pushing/jersey tugging etc. If the ref calls that he could be in big trouble.
Lets hope the ref calls the fouls as he sees it.

We can expect Star to be bear hugged every time he gets the ball. They'll probably have to double team him which can only be good news for Gooch and MFR. I can see the team who hoovers up the breaks being the winner on Saturday..... to use Rugby parlance we need a few groundhogs. If we can't get the ball into Star in the 1st place from mid-field / 50 yards we're wasting our time. For this reason Seamus could be vital. He's been good on the breaking ball this year.
