Have to admit I'd be a bit concerned if Dec starts and Brosnan moves to the middle. Fair enough this worked in '04 but things are very different now. One saving grace is that Nallen has been off form this year even against Dublin he wasn't too hot. It would be terrible if Dec starts and then plays badly seeing as he has somewhat redeemed himself by coming off the bench in the last few matches and doing well. I just don't know if he did well enough to dislodge someone (looks like Tommy) off the team.

The real questions are at the back and its not getting a mention here. Cork have 1 forward so we were untested. We were destroyed by Armagh when there was any long ball coming in. Mayo have an excellent midfield and could put in McDonald as a ball winner to distribute to Mortimer and Dillon as he sees fit.

I doubt that Kerryman. Macdonald has been central to Mayos game plan in the past few games and his deep lying foraging role (DOS anyone???) has been a big catalyst in them beating Dublin. Mortimer, Ger Brady and Alan Dillon are also danger men. The backs will ahve to really step up to the plate on Sunday week.

Yeah kerryman but do you really think that Mayo have forwards the quality of Clarke and McDonnell? I dont think so, I said after the Armagh game we wouldnt be coming up against as good a set of inside forwards again this year and I stick by that. We conceded 1-13 that day - I think we'll get more than 16 points in total the next day.

From todays' Irish Times
O'Sullivan to regain number 11 Ian O'Riordan
Kerry football captain Declan O'Sullivan is poised to return to the starting line-up for the All Ireland final against Mayo on Sunday week. A loss of form resulted in O'Sullivan dropping to the bench after the Munster final replay defeat to Cork. As a result, the captaincy was handed to Colm 'Gooch' Cooper.
After several notable appearances as a substitute, and more significantly a return to the centre forward position in training games, O'Sullivan is set to regain the number 11 shirt. That switch would see Eoin Brosnan revert back to midfield, with Tommy Griffin dropping down to the bench.
The captaincy issue may not be quite as straightforward, but it does seem likely that O'Sullivan will resume the duty.

Haven't they ever heard of "If it's not broken, don't fix it". I know O' Sullivan is a handy player, but is now really the time to go disrupting a team that has been playing well together?

Of the 3 boys mentioned in that piece, I think Declan is the one most likely to make the biggest impact if brought on from the bench. Still reckon Brosnan is a centre forward and nothing else at inter county level and i think his performances there compared to anywhere else he has played over the past few years proves that !!

The management have shown before that they will make the changes depending on how well players are going in training..
While I have always been a fan of Brosnan at 11, I think maybe he will be reverted to midfield.. Declan O Sullivan will come in alright I'd say.
It isn't such a big gamble to be honest. DOS and Brosnan can both play really well and though Griffin has been sound....well I think these two can offer more...
Whatever the management go with is fine... They have a great record and Kerry wont lose the All Ireland Final based on whatever changes they make...
The players involved are all big game boys...

LiM & the rest of you folk - Thats a few times now that someone has said that John Morrison was with Tyrone last year - He wasn't, and never was as far as I know.......................... Don't know where you got that from ? (hope the feck I aint wrong, but I'm 99% sure) yeah, you are right, i just checked it out. I dunno where i heard it from to be honest, chinese whispers. i think he may have been with Derry when they won and Armagh when they won, not sure though

We conceded 1-13 that day - I think we'll get more than 16 points in total the next day. I'll buy that they'll keep McDonald further out, but I don't buy for a second that Armagh have a more complete set of forwards: 2 forwards did well on the day for Armagh. Now compare that to Mayo's main scorers against Dublin. G Brady (0-2), A Dillon (0-4); C Mortimer (0-5) C McDonald (0-2). K O’Neill (0-2) A Moran (1-0) I'm not confident about our backs against these Mayo players. Everyone has always said it, if Mayo ever learned to kick straight they'd be dangerous, and now they're getting there....

i wouldn't like to see a situation develope where seamus would become isolated on dillon.
i'd fancy either tom or mick mac to stand man to man with o neil and contain him,o neil will struggle if he doesnt get clean ball,on the other hand he can be leathal with the ball in hand.
mortimer is their main forward this year, himself and dillon hold the keys for mayo.

Hey Kerryman, I'd share some of your views about the Mayo forwards, however K O'Neill and A Moran both came on as subs. Also I would certainly rate Kerry's 6 backs better than Dublins and I think our lads will be a lot tighter. I'd expect Moynihan to have a great game considering it will be his last in a Kerry jersey. Aidan has been very consistant and Tomás has shown that he's over his bad patch. Mark has been Kerry's best defender by far. Mike McCarthy was outstandng against Cork and Tom O'Sullivan is one of the thoughest corner backs in the country (and under rated in my opinion). The main battle will be in midfield and between the two centre foward lines. There's no doubting that both full forward lines can score, however it's the supply that's important.

1) Does anybody remember who was nearly man of the match in midfield in the 2004 All Ireland final? Eoin Brosnan.
2) Maybe Jack O'Connor was playing some PR mind games. Afterall, the night Declan played at no. 11 in training was during the media night, or as Tom Humphries calls Kerrys version, "the annual festival of the yerra". Everybody, including M&M (Moran and Morrisson) think Kerry will start with the same team as Longford, Armagh and Cork. No harm having them second guess their original plans now is there?
3) Go back a few pages. I asked if anybody would give me odds on Declan starting. He's playing well in training, Jack may feel any sense of disappointment in Goochs corner at not being captain etc could be worth it to bring on the most in form player in training, who has given our full backs and half backs an absolute roasting in training these past two weeks.
Now, I'm not in favour of starting Declan. I think he brings far more options for multiple positions when coming from the bench than Tommy or Eoin.

I agree with those sentiments ASABU. I wouldn't be overly worried if Dec replaced Eoin at half forward because I think Declan on form can pose more problems (as long as he doesn't go walk about with the ball).
The flipside is that Declan would be a far better impact sub than Eoin would and for that reason (along with the Gooch factor) I would leave the team as it is.
PS: All this talk of Tommy Griffin being dropped is annoying. The man has done a great job since coming in and Darragh's performances have been outstanding since he was picked to partner him.

its hard to see what tommie could have done wrong during the last four weeks at training to justify him being dropped.
agree,we would be weakening our bench.

Just heard on Radio Kerry that rumours of Declan O'Sullivan starting at centre forward are growing. It states that he has been training on the A side while Brosnan has been on the B side. I think it would be a little silly if it was just physcological tactics.

I think it would be a disgrace if oconnor starts declan and drops brosnan. Such bias could upset the team. Remember kerry were up 4/5 points against armagh. Jack could'nt wait to get his south kerry boys on the field, this unsettled the team for a while as armagh brought it back to two before kerry pulled away again thanks to darren o sullivans goal.

Kingdomkerry, what are you on about, against armagh, declan came on and scored a point and won two more frees that were pointed... Brian Sheehan scored 2 frees one of which was prob the most important score in the second half. Armagh were after bringing it to within 2 points and brian sheehan kicked a free from over 50metres.. I'm not saying to drop brosnan but like kerryman said its hard to argue with the guy who's playing better being picked.. If jack is biased towards declan then your bias is clearly at the other end of the stick for whatever reason!

Ease up lads were all entitled to our opinions. I just dont rate declan o sullivan enough to start. he holds the ball up too much and drops too deep. It is not a coincidence that when declan was dropped this year against longford that kerry turned the corner. Stick with the same team thats all im saying.

Me too. It may be a coincidence that the team started to play well when he was dropped but anyone who has been regulary attending league and championship games will realise that he holds up the ball too much and allows the opposition half back to attack more when he drops deep. Is it a coincidence that Ger Spillane had his quietest game of the year when he had to worry about the Brosnan goal threat???

Phycological games is all thats going on Kingdom so dont worry, it will be the same team unless someones injured. Morans good at this stuff so its no harm to keep him busy. Brosnans best position is center forward and Griffin doing a reasonable job at midfield to drop. Brosnan is a decent midfielder but can have a bad game in this position. Declan is better as an impact sub and theres no need for him to break up a settled side. As for the case that hes playing well in training well hes playing against 6 lads who know they wont be dropped for final and might not go into a very tough ball to win that they usually would. I think you will see Declan and sheehan on as subs though and hopefully they wont disrupt our gameplan like the Armagh game. Same team again bar injury for me.

Hope your right eastciarrai. If O'Sullivan is picked to start it'll unsettle a team that has come together nicely. Kerry winning the All-Ireland is more important than who gets to lift Sam.
