I read this forum rather than contributing and loved reading Veteran's reports, it's a shame he's not contributing. My take is most of our half back line can't kick the ball and only 1 midfielder. How many times did we see them carrying the ball into the tackle. Oh how I miss David Moran who would kick a beautiful ball into forwards. We played with fear and that resulted in Gavin White mistake abd there could have been a few more. I'm old fashioned re kickouts why didn't we press up? Maybe JOC has no faith in our midfield? Still we were unlucky, another day David would have scored, beidgh la eile ag David.

Paul Murphy and Morley stay back and our corner backs attack more. Positions don't really exist anymore.

Only getting to watch it back this evening, and it was so close. Our boys were absolutely heroic, this team is still improving and if we can bring through a few more top class players we'll be unstopable

You're dead right Iceman. We were agonizingly close and I know most believe the result was due to a wet ball mishap that proved crucial. No ones fault, Our half backs were brilliant and saved us many times during the game. I believe Kerry, as always, will bounce back from this and have the players present and coming through/back from injuries and will be a force for a good few years to come.I presume Jack O Connor is sticking around for a third year? He will be mad to set things right. Is Donaghy staying on with Armagh? He'd be a great addition to the Kerry dugout if he isn't.

Canāt watch it back but can someone tell me the time Costello punched Tom Sullivan, Gough called that free from off he ball . Did he give him a card that time. If he gave he free what did he give it for cause if he saw he punch why didnāt he give the red? Also I wonder is James McCarthy been called into the Irish rugby squad for WC . He wud be ideal for tacklingššš

No it's been an awful week... Heading to Castle in the morning hopefully that lifts the mood. Im just coming around now.I think it took me until today and now im in better form,I honestly think i took this defeat worse than any i can remember.DefĀ the worst since 2011 but even then i took it better. However after watching the game 3 times over the last week im ready to keep the head up again.I think the defeats get worse the older i get.Win lose or draw I head to the pub but went straight home Sunday evening apologising to friends I supposed to meet by text.Time to move on I think. I did likewise, I apologised to fellas up from West Kerry and made my exit. I couldn't even speak on Sunday evening. I think in 15 and 19 you could just see Dublin were a superior team. But 11 and Sunday we were equal and just lost. A hard one.

I think we lost this game last winter the day Barry Dan while playing well and scoring was substituted Jack showed his cards that day as he is entitled to do. We went to battle with a midfield that wasnāt as good as Dublins and ultimately on the biggest day we paid the price . No amount of hair splitting and what ifs will change that This was well flagged throughout the year but never properly addressed. We papered over the cracks all year against lesser opponents but against Dublin we needed to be close to perfect Dublins midfield 3 points Kerry. Midfield 0 points

Midfield 0 points Must say I agree with this, Barry Dan showed well in the league particularly against Galway. I think after the Mayo game in Killarney we panicked around the middle. Happy to concede kickouts shouldn't be the Kerrys attitude.

So positions doesnt matter anymore? That's what happened with their kickout. Who was marking Brian Howard? Surely thats basic stuff?

Paul Murphy is listed as a wing back but plays more defensive than TOS and GOS. Paudie Clifford is named as a corner forward but is a half forward. I don't know who was supposed to be marking Howard.

Shane Ryan pushed out so they're shouldn't have been a free man.

The final few minutes we had no luck - David lost the ball as he and Fitz clashed with Fitz knocking the ball over the end line - umpire ran down to indicate where the ball went out - Gough awarded Fitz a free out - I was close to the incident & could see no foul. At 1-13 each, we turned them over in defence - Morley had possession & was on his knees - ref could have given a free out but didnāt - when the ball broke free Scully picked it up & ran 6/7 steps before releasing the ball - it should have been a free out - Rockās kick fell just short & Mannion fired over; it was that tight - the final free to Dublin was of the soft variety- 3 of the final 4 calls went Dublinās way!!

Yeah that 50:50 going to Fitzsimons was spurious. The ball was on the ground so Clifford was entitled to challenge for it. At the same time, if it was a dry day, it might not have spilled it and scored a point. Whoever was marking Mannion should've been more alert also. He actually should've scored a goal.

I watched it back and re-viewing confirmed for me again it was the most intense and ferocious of finals. Kerry put up a heroic defense and really gave this everything. Still heartbroken.

When Gough over turned the free for Kerry on the advice of his umpire he should have given possession back to Kerry from where the ball was kicked in instead of throwing in the ball. You can see Clifford remonstrating with him and pointing to where the ball was kicked from.

Lads, itās gone.š
This that and the other wonāt bring it back, we need to analysis our own performance , what can we do better, our turnover count was just too high, itās not to be critical, but I think we need to learn from our errors.
Is the team becoming to comfortable in its own skin, some guys keep making the same mistake, all well in the games we are masters, but the tight games we require to be more meticulous.

I didn't go drinking much after the final as I was travelling away with work for the week early enough on the Monday morning. I haven't read a paper or watched a replay. I couldn't even bring myself to listen to my usual podcasts which I usually devour.
Home last night and still can't bear to stick on the pods.
Glad to be away from it all and the bonus was it wasn't passing rain where I was.

Glad to be away from it all and the bonus was it wasn't passing rain where I was. You were lucky in a way. I donāt think I have ever witnessed such a degree of vitriol & triumphalism by the Dubs as witnessed now across social media platforms. We all love our football & our heroes - we are all blinkered & there are bad apples on both sides. The attempts that I have seen to belittle/denigrate last years win & David Clifford in particular are beyond the realms of decency. I welcome the Dublin contributors on this forum &!thank ā Blue Pantherā for his balanced, informed & humble article following the final - we are all bad losers, sore losers sometimes but the bile I have seen & read on Facebook & Twitter is at another level. Some keyboard warriors who hide behind the anonymity of various pseudonyms are without doubt the worst - at times I blame myself for getting involved but itās often hard to refrain from replying to some of the utter rubbish peddled. The inclusion of David in the IT bad week section shocked me - an amateur sportsman who had, by his standards, a quiet day, who suffered a deep personal loss is being held up to the scrutiny of professional players - beggars belief. Itās a problem for society in general & we all have the option of ignoring it but sometimes itās hard. Thankfully, we will have club action to take our minds off the county scene for the coming months.

I have got banned on about 3 occasions off Facebook for engaging with gob*es, usually Covid related ( I have to say my interactions were not particularly abusive but obviously triggered some algorithym). I try to ignore a lot of stuff now to be honest.
One thing I did see when I was away was that Paul Flynn fool learning not to Tweet when drunk. Good enough for him.
I can only presume Brolly was at it too.
Now that I am home from my exile I will have to face the music with the neighbours and club mates in the big smoke.
Maybe they will forget now that the soccer season is starting again

Brolly is paid to distort the truth for his own ends.
He is a *e pundit as he is continually trying to be antagonistic. He is a wind up merchant.
RTE got shut of him as he just courted controversy and wanted to be the centre of attention.
It's not all about you Joe.

There has been no mention at all around how defensive Dublin were in the first half.
Were they that defensive in the second half.
If so it was a bad day for football.

I think I'll watch it again next week and keep bottle of bourbon close for the finale.I asked a friend of mine, who's a neutral, if the rivalry irks non Dublin and Kerry folks. His reply was: "Dublin and Kerry have built that great tradition over generations. It isn't a trivial thing, a superficial relationship:it is a monument that took a century to build. It's wonderful that it is still vibrant and relevant in 2023." Maybe he was trying to the ease pain of defeat, an act of kindness towards fragile emotions only a day after the match. I'll never know. I do know that we are all privileged to be part of this monumental rivalry. The Kingdom will rise again and shake off the dust of this defeat. This is not a might or a maybe. It will happen!
