Well done to Listowel Emmets, great to see the club climbing back up the ranks of kerry football and winning munster finals.

Heading for Tullamore shortly for the s/f. Hopefully the roads will be ok.
Best of luck to Emmets today. No idea what the opposition are like.
TG4 are streaming it, if anyone's interested.

1-8 to 0-1 at half time. Maybe we shouldn’t worry about the Kerry county board having to change the structures to make our competitions better, Croke Park surely looking at this and say this can’t continue. I know people will say that each county has the right to run the competitions the way they want but Kerry teams hammering through everyone to every all Ireland is no good for anyone

It doesn't account for a team that won a provincial championship only kicking 1 point in a half of football.

In fairness, Arva strolled their way through Ulster and hockeyed the Leinster champions today so it isn't just a thing with Kerry sides. In any competition, some teams are better than others, so what?
That said, Laherdane weren't great today and the game was over by half time. It was somewhat competitive early on with the Mayo men getting stuck into the challenges. Listowel stood up well and notched a few points before Brian Sweeney's cheeky lob knocked the stuffing out of the Westerners. The second half was a non-event.
Fine crowd in O'Connor Park today. Fine ground it is too, though the pitch was awful.

Listowel seemed to win without breaking into a sweat. Bryan Sweeney”s classy lob settled matters at an early stage.
Listowel seem to be playing well within themselves and I get the impression there is more there .
Niall Collins at full back appeared to be invincible.

Knocknagree are a senior team in Cork now so that was an outlier that a Kerry team didn’t win that one. Gneevguilla lost the final by 2 in the other of the 2 non- wins. 11 of 18 too. Were burying our heads in the sand if we think this isn’t an issue

Croke park refused to even listen to them. If they want a dumb blanket rule of 16 teams only in Senior applied to all counties (even Cork with 245 clubs)then there’s not much county board can do.

It’s great that our junior premier winners have such a great chance of winning an All Ireland.

Agreed, why do we have to apologise that our club game at each level is so strong?!! Don't tell me a club that can only manage to score 1 point in 30 mins of football and still are provincial (never mind county) champions is Kerry's issue.
And lets be frank the fact a town the size of Listowel with one club are only at junior level anyway is mad to begin with - but that's their issue.
The North Kerry championship would give most intermediate and a lot of senior club championships in the other 31 counties a run for its money. As Edge said its other counties issue if that's the case not ours.

If we are so confident in our game we should start putting forward our Junior (old novice) as our representatives for the junior. I’d imagine fairly quick things would level out

Well the fact we have divisional teams would be a key reason why our senior success is more limited, it means the club sides that represent us are often not the best team in Kerry.

If we are so confident in our game we should start putting forward our Junior (old novice) as our representatives for the junior. I’d imagine fairly quick things would level out is everything even at senior level?? you have some huge clubs all over Ireland, drawing from populations of 1000s of people and also able to draw in lads from other counties. look at the 18 titles since 2004 - 3 Dublin clubs have won it. 2 Galway clubs 1 Mayo club 1 Kerry club 1 Armagh club 1 Antrim club 1 Down club 1 Roscommon club 12 of the 18 have been won by what you would consider super power clubs, that we simply do not have in Kerry. we dont need to put our Junior/Novice teams forward because theyre still would be 8 teams in Junior Premier good enough to win an all ireland if they put their minds to it, plenty of clubs have been division 5 teams starting out, in the right championship and eventually got over the line winning a premier junior. it helps at Intermediate level when you see Rathmore winning it, no doubt there, but at Junior level, most of the clubs that have gotten to Croke Park, were coming from noting 2 or 3 years before it. another factor that cannot be ingored at Senior level is the fact that in that time, 11 Divisional teams won the Kerry County Championship, Crokes and Stacks made 7 all ireland semi finals out of 9 in the other years, with Crokes getting to 3 finals. KOR got to AI semi final last year being the exception. there basically is a huge tie between a divisional team winning Kerry and the club teams not getting far in AI in the same year

I watched the first half of the game on TG4 YouTube page. The kick outs from the Mayo goalkeeper were the main cause of the lopsided score at halftime. Listowel must have won between 75 and 80percent of them between clean wins and winning the brakes. Never mind the one for the goal to make it 1-4 to 0-0. A lot of the Mayo lads heads dropped at that moment and there was no way back.
It would have be interesting to see the intercounty experience of both teams. Listowel had a few who played minor/u20 and some senior.

Listowel will understandably have issues with a few refereeing decisions but Avra were the better team. They had a natural inside forward and Brady was a step above the rest of the players out on the field. Eddie Healy one to watch from Listowel

I have just received a phone call. Apparently, an emergency meeting of the competitions authority of the GAA have concluded that the junior /intermediate club structures as constituted at present are totally fit for purpose.

Commiserations Listowel, Didn't come out at all in that 2nd half. Arva were worthy winners in the end. The ref was appalling, the black card and disallowed goal were shocking calls.

Congratulations to the Cavan club. While the referee did Listowel no favours, the black card was farcical , the better team won.

Not allowing the goal was a disgraceful call but at the same time the game should have been over by then, Arva’s shooting was very poor. Listowel are fit and strong but are lacking a bit of cuteness and a high scoring forward. Eddie Healy was the one player for Listowel who stood up and upped his game in Croke Park. A few others who were big players up to this had off games.
Kerry clubs have won 6 of the last 12 juniors. Is the standard in the county dropping a little bit, is there a junior premier club in the county that would win next year’s All Ireland? They’ll be close but I don’t see an outstanding club in Kerry next year and there’s usually always one very strong club from a different county.

One word perfectly summarises the difference between the teams today - experience. It showed in many ways all over the pitch. Listowel are working their way up the ladder from a low base. The Cavan team have been senior and intermediate in recent years.
Ironically today's experience will be a major asset to Listowel going forward. They have done themselves and the county proud.

Hard luck to Listowel but better team on the day won ..one point from play from the Listowel forwards was never going to be enough. But still a good achievement in getting to this stage

It was a terrible decision not to allow Listowel see out their advantage for the goal. Regardless of how wasteful Avra were, Listowel were denied a fair opportunity to have the game back in the melting pot. The last play going for a point would have been a different dynamic.
