Final today week in ASP A hard game to call with emmets seemingly going well under Marc o Se and Ballymac after a good year in Division 1. Slight preference for Ballymac, division 1 county league must mean they are that bit sharper

Terrific final in ASP on a beautiful afternoon in front of a great crowd. A huge boost for Listowel and for North Kerry football. Credit to both sides for making it a proper game of attacking football. Daire Keane the standout player for Ballymac while for Listowel, Jack McElligott gave a performance for the ages. Scored four superb points from wingback, including a clutch equaliser at the end of normal time and a first half point that was as good as you'll see anywhere all year. Deserving MOTM winner.
Listowel move up to Intermediate but in fairness I think Ballymac should be there too. With 16 teams in each, there's surely scope for two to go up from Prem Junior to Intermediate and two in the opposite direction.

Well Done both teams on a fantastic game of positive football.

Hard to believe on today’s evidence that Jack McElligott wasn’t even a Kerry u20 panellist this year.

Jack played Kerry minor and was invited onto under 20 panels but repeatedly declined offers to attend.
Funny enough, football is actually his second preference when it comes to sport with badminton being his first!!
You won’t find a more laid back but superb athlete! Some fellas just have ‘it’ and he’s one of them. Yesterdays performance from him wasn’t a huge surprise to any body here in Listowel

What is this recent obsession with people wanting every club just to move up grades? Ballymac will be an Intermediate team when they win the Junior championship simple.

Might give an extra bit of bite to both competitions if promotion/relegation were a more realistic possibility.

Every club in every grade up to Intermediate have a possibility to be promoted by winning whatever grade they're at. Your suggestion would just lead to the same teams going up and down every few seasons.

Like the old yarn with Pat Healy and Micko Dwyer, maybe Jack O Connor will give Jack Mac a call when Kerry are playing Ballymac!!!

FT Killimer 2-2 Listowel Emmets 5-17 HT Killimer 1-0 Listowel Emmets 3-7
All too easy in the end for a Listowel side backed by a large travelling support in Quilty this afternoon. So large in fact that throw-in had to be delayed as the ferry struggled with the volume of intending traffic - supporters' buses and cars being left behind.
The game was tight and competitive enough in the early stages. However, when Joe Joe Grimes converted a penalty to put Listowel up 1-2 to 0-0, the writing was on the wall. Killimer were blitzed for the remainder of the half and never let into the game. Their goal, from a turnover (looked a foul), was a rare opportunity against a tenacious Emmets defence. Thirteen points in it at the break, Killimer would need a fast restart with the wind to have any chance. It never came.
Listowel were ruthless and clinical all through and never once took the foot off the throat. The game was long over when the Killimer no 7 scythed through the defence for a terrific consolation goal. Worries for Emmets came with Eddie Healy and Joe Grimes picking up shoulder injuries - Healy in a sling afterwards. Kilmurry of Cork up next - they had a similar sized victory in their semi-final today.

Kilmurry of Cork up next - they had a similar sized victory in their semi-final today. A demolition job. The most memorable feature was the novelty of the ferry stage of the journey. In the first ten minutes or so it appeared that we might get a contest but two quick fire goals by Listowel gave us an advance warning that Killimer might be out of their depth. That is the way it transpired. A gulf in class that would never be bridged even if the match kept going until the last ferry departed Killimer. Very often when there is such a discrepancy in standards the inferior team resorts to roughhouse tactics. Compliments to Killimer for not adopting that approach. They had a couple of useful players and ,according to an affable Killimer man sitting next me, they had a few key men missing through injury. That was a pity. There was no obvious weakness on the Listowel team but a more rigorous assessment cannot be made until after the final. One criticism I would have , something that manifested itself against Ballymac as well, is a tendency, particularly early in the game, to try to walk the ball into the net. I feel it would be advisable to build up a reservoir of points in the opening stages and only go for goal if the chance is clear cut. Against stronger opponents, which will inevitably confront them as the campaign progresses, these failed goal attempts ,at the expense of handy points , could well see a promising journey end in bitter tears. An immediate worry are the injuries sustained by Eddie Healy and Joe Grimes. Both had towering games yesterday.

Both had towering games yesterday. Yeah, have to agree there. A fine performance overall but five or handy six points were left behind in that first half, and the game not yet won, over trying to manufacture goals all the time. Against stronger sides that will cost you. In the second period, the points were being taken so we can assume words were had at the break.

Listowel 0-9. Kilmury 1-2 HT 0-4 0-0
The gale force, wayward wind ,with intermittent showers , ensured a game of moderate quality. If did not prevent Listowel from playing good football at times and this was sufficient to dismiss the challenge of a poor Klimurry side with ease. The only mystery is how Kilmurry were only four points adrift at the end. It is partially explained by the goal they scored late on in the game but mostly it is due to some over elaboration by Listowel, particularly in the second half and , in fairness to the players, weather conditions not conducive to slick forward play.
That goal resulted from a high ball with some poor handling by the Listowel defence. It was the only mistake that defence made. It was totally bulletproof otherwise with each member having a stranglehold on his opponent. Further out , Joe Joe Grimes lorded midfield with Jamie McVeigh a worthy lieutenant in that area. Cormac Mulvihill played the role of a wandering minstrel back there also . All this ensured that the Kilmurry attacks were infrequent and of the powder puff variety.
The attack did not play with their usual fluency, exemplified by the fact that danger man, David Keane, was replaced . An unusual occurrence.. In spite of that , some good points were registered. An example in the second half was when Bryan Sweeney, always a threat, won possession near the sideline, instantly slipped it to onrushing Joe Joe, who collected at speed. delivered a delicious cross field kick pass to Jack McElligott who kicked over. Listowel are capable of that sophistication but today did not lend itself to that type of deft play.
Kilmurry were disappointing. Also they bordered on the over physical at times with several yellow cards being brandished , with only one of their players getting a second yellow from a poor referee.
A historic day for Listowel, vociferously appreciated by their huge following . For too long , the town has punched below its weight. The hope is that this provincial title will spark a renaissance in this urban area and , by extension, further afield in North Kerry.

Listowel 0-9 Kilmurray 1-2 FT Listowel 0-4 Kilmurray 0-0 HT
A win that was somewhat more comfortable than the final margin would suggest, truth be told. Kilmurray nicked 1-1 in injury time to put a bit of gloss on the scoreline. 40 minutes or so before they registered their first score, no real surprise given the way they parked the bus and hid the key at the throw-in. A horrible wind didn't help matters and made for a poor game all round. A poor game but a great occasion for Emmets for whom Joe Joe Grimes, Jack McElligott, Micheál Kennedy and Sean Keane stood out.

It's been a great 12 months for Emmets, not just on the pitch but in terms of the local interest also. Great to see the flags and bunting all over the town, big crowds going to the games, the schools getting involved, people excited about their club again. Long overdue and long may it continue.

I saw Jack on Clubber and saw that he is a very talented footballer that can turn defence into attack. Let's be realistic here, he must deliver at intermediate club level at least before he can be considered for the county squad.

Fair play to Listowel, great to see one of the big North Kerry clubs landing provincial silverware. To be honest I always found it so strange a town the size of Listowel having the one club and it playing at such a low tier. Hopefully they can kick on now and have a good few years at a level closer to where they should be.
Be great to see them make an AI final day in Croker in the new year!

That’s the beauty of the county championship, he has played with Feale Rangers.
