I hadn't been so pessimistic for a Kerry team playing in Cork since the seniors in 2014. I should have had more sense and faith on both occasions.
Semi-final will definitely be a step up in class. Monahan and Crowley will be hopeful of starting spots. Some of the Kerry squad including Crowley will be out for revenge as a few of the Sligo team were part of the Summerhill team that beat the Sem in the Hogan Cup semi.
2008 is a long time to wait for both an u20/u21 title and even worse, an AI final appearance. Kerry have lost their last 4 semi-finals.
Kerry have finally gotten a run of consistency at u20 level in Munster having won 5 of last 7 having 0 Munster titles from previous 9.
Should have been 6 from 7 but one year we were missing Sean O'Shea, Diarmuid O'Connor and David Clifford because of the ridiculous rule banning senior players, or even 7 from 8 if you throw in the lost year from moving u21 to u20.

Must say Cillian Burke showed leadership last night. Serious option in a couple years for the seniors, has speed, power and quick hands. Half forward is his position I think.

Looking forward to the Sligo game for sure, progression from Clare to cork, rob monahan back will be a big plus, but we need to ensure that both him and shine are maximised with possession.
But we need big improvement defensively, is the system we are playing, releasing players of responsibility, again last night cork were bearing down on goals away too many times.
I am sure management are learning more about the lads from competitive games, e spect another improvement next night out.

Very well done to both team and management. Some fantastic improvement in the past week. We still gave up too many goal opportunities but at least this time, those opportunities weren’t taken. Those opportunities need to be cut off earlier but if the improvement achieved in the past week can be replicated, then it can be achieved.

Kildare beat Dublin after extra time Watching that game, I felt our lads would get the better of both teams, however it’s impossible to know with young lads. No6 McGrath was very good for the Lilywhites. Good few on the team from the Naas CBS squad that beat The Sem in the Hogan Cup final last year.

didnt kildare and dublin both beat us not that long ago i think? Yeah in the John Kerins competition back in Feb. Kildare scoreline was something like 0-15 to 2-12. Can't remember the scoreline in the Dublin game. Kildare put in a good performance last night and looked good in the semi-final against Laois although Laois look limited from what I saw of that game. Down v Derry is on TG4 tonight at 7:30

Galway beat Dublin in the final of the 2023 John Kerins Cup so you can take John Kerins Cup scores with a pinch of salt. It's the u20 Gaelic Football equivalent of the par 3 contest at the Masters!
Sligo lost 2 of their games in a supposedly lower grade (Leo Murphy Cup).
The only aspect that was predictory was Clare completely dominated their grade (Liam Connor Cup).

I see Dermot Hanafin’s son came on as a sub for Kildare. He did indeed and when they played Kerry in the John Kerins cup he played midfield and scored 2 goals and a point. Third generation same name, same position.. good pub question there

I wonder if Derry-John-Luke are Kerry's first 3 generations of u20/u21 players?

Derry 0-09 - 2-11 Down
Kerry the only provincial winners in the 2020 minor championship to win their province at u20 2 years later.
Kerry now the favourites to win it out with the bookies, based on history more than anything as surely Down have been the most impressive disposing of Tyrone, Monaghan and Derry with ease while Kerry drew with Clare over 60 min.

Interesting that 3 of last year’s 4 provincial winners retained their title in ourselves, Sligo and Kildare. The All Ireland champions Tyrone being the exception but the team that took them out went on to win Ulster in Down.

On a side note about Dermot Hanafin. Dermot s two sons Dermot and Sean have the breeding. Their mother is Foley from Tipp (a sister of Derry Foley who was a top class midfielder for Tipperary). Didnt know that, Derry Foley was top class, he was good enough to play midfield for Kerry in the era when he played for Tipp

Evan's dad Liam was a dual kerry minor and under 21 and a kerry senior hurler for over 10 years Cillan Boyle played u20 hurling for kerry this year. The number of Boyle's to wear the kerry jersey just grows and grows

All 4 provincial winners have won 2 of the last 3 provincial titles in their province. Down having a gap in the middle, the other 3 having won 2 in a row.

Semi final fixed for Sat 6th at 4.45pm in Salthill. Strange time and strange location. Ennis would have been more appropriate, 2 hour journey approx for both counties. Ball in Sligos court when it comes to venue, I'm sure they'll have a big following especially with their seniors playing in the Connacht final that weekend also. Tough fixture awaits

With Limerick bypassed, you can now make it to Salthill in 2.5 hours from Tralee and Killarney.
Sligo to Salthill is 2 hours, so there's not much in it.

Galway city traffic is never much fun, least of all on a Saturday evening (as I was reminded on this forum during the debate on the venue for Hogan Cup semi-Final) so plenty of time needed to get there.
On a side note, speaking to people who were at HC game, the Tuam pitch wasn't in great condition at all so maybe that had a bearing here.
On the game itself, Sligo will be well up for this. Tomás & Co will need to repeat their work in getting the team on to the next stage.

Semi final fixed for Sat 6th at 4.45pm in Salthill. Strange time and strange location. Both U20 semi-finals are on TG4 - I suspect that is the main reason for the time. On the location front Pearse Stadium is always a bit of a disaster given it's location on the far side of the city.

Neither Eoin McEvoy or Lachlan Murray were allowed play for the Derry u20s by Rory Gallagher in the Ulster final last Wednesday so they would be available for the Senior semi final today. Fair enough McEvoy played the whole game today in the number 3 jersey but Murray was only brought on in the 71st minute. I think that’s absolutely disgraceful from Rory Gallagher. How must that young lad feel after missing out on being his teams key man in an Ulster final just for a token appearance from the bench. Not only that but Gallagher has possibly cost all Murray’s team mates an Ulster title. I don’t agree with the rule but still that’s ridiculous carry on from Gallagher.
