Darragh was at the Galway v Derry game and says today that it was Galway who were the defensive team in that first half. They didnt want Derry getting an early goal. Derry lived off goals all year. His key point is that Joyce is prepared to win ugly and do what needs to be done. Did Darragh ever take a penalty i wonder. He says that no one should miss from 11 yards Thrust me. This will not be an enjoyable game of football! And will have more to do with Cian O'Neill's input as opposed to PJ. Both Galway and Kerry have tightened things up defensively. Thats the main reason they have progressed further in 2022 than in previous years so i am expecting an arm wrestle like 2014. Dublin were ultra defensive in 2011 too remember. Plenty of time in future years for champagne football for this years winners.

This is a game made for Tony Brosnan, i do hope he gets on the field while the game is still there to be won. I’m very much in the bringing on Tony camp, should be the first forward in

Cian O Neill will be hoping for a gale of wind, torrential rain and poor performances from Seanie and Clifford like the last time he was able to beat Kerry.
I would guess that the sound of him sledging the Kerry players that November night will be remembered by the players over the next 10 days.

factors dictated Tonys inclusion the last day.
we got 3 injuries in last 15 minutes plus poor performances from Geaney and SOB (though i thought he was doing fine in an impossible to win battle). added in Jack Barrys fitness and moran coming off, Tony was never coming on.

His key point is that Joyce is prepared to win ugly and do what needs to be done. Did Darragh ever take a penalty i wonder. He says that no one should miss from 11 yards SOS thinks it is a good idea to have a shot at goal, and so does the whole bloody world - that's what penalties are for, otherwise a free would do. And yes, a goalie can only cover 20% of the goal mouth, with shots closest to the posts hardest to beat the speed of the ball to if ya get it? Darragh's IT article is insightful if taken as intended, the voice of a recent enough past master. His experience is awesome and he oozes of a common touch, nailing aspects ordinary folk struggle with. I can understand how people punch holes in what he says - I bet he writes off the cuff and his account wouldn't be the same if he approached the same subject an hour later. That's why I never take his stuff as gospel- it is the gist of it that is key, though the forensics are generally 100%.

And BTW re Hawk Eye there is something fishy going on here - from what I understand the technology is not the issue when the camera lies. It couldn't be a software bug as the routine has been run thousands of times. If they are saying it was the hardware then Hawk Eye cannot be trusted under any circumstances, meaning all and any previous recordings are void.
It is as simple as this - did anyone ever see a photo that lied?
It had to be human intervention and if it wasn't internal staff then it was a security breach - very worrying stuff.
How many games have been decided on such calls?
Clear as it was the ref and umpires should have seen it but for Hawk Eye to 'intervene' reeks of something unsavoury here, very.
P.S. 'Intervene' should have read 'contradict' - strange or not but I believe as of lately the ref no longer asks Hawk eye - instead the Hawk contacts him if there is a miscall.
This is how they put it - 'A combination of unrelated issues, including minor hardware failures, led to the erroneous finding.' Maybe they will tell us more - of course the likelihood is that the GAA is being wronged here, maybe held over a barrel?

Only 5 subs allowed now.
If Moran starts as he surely will, he will probably be replaced by Adrian or JoConnor.
So its 4 subs for 76 minutes to cover all other eventualities.
Against Dublin, Killian and DM came on in the 42th minute for PG and SoB. I'd say Jack wasnt expecting to have to replace both.
DMoran was replaced in 51st minute by Adrian. As expected i suppose.
Paul Murphy came on for Graham on 62 mins. (was Graham injured?)
Gavin got injured but it took an age to replace him while Dublin were in full flow. In the 66th Gavin was replaced by Joe.
Jack said that JB wanted to come off but all subs were used.
Its a high wire act picking the team and making substitutions.
Having to remove both PG and SoB really curtailed options last week.
Cover had to be held in reserve for defenders.
It all worked out ok and JB was sone man to keep going in the circumstances.
Killian and DM appear to be ahead in the pecking order ahead of TB. Whether they should be is another question.

Regarding the substitutions on Sunday.
I thought Jack got it spot on with his calls and the timing of them.
My mind goes back to 2011 when Declan should have been taken off and ends up being concussed on the field. Jack clearly has improved alot with brining lads in when needed.
I wasn't keen on Jack's return but upto this point he has got almost everything correct.

I agree with the above and the previous comments that Tony needs to be on the field. At what stage this year did K Spillane move past Tony? Tony is a far more dangerous forward who is capable of taking on his man (or men) and get a score which is an attribute now missing from PG and KS. Spillane had s very good game against Limerick and that along with his experience in Croke Park seems to have pushed him ahead of Tony B. It will be interesting to see if Jack makes nay changes in the FF line for the final. You could make an argument for Tony to start ahead of Geaney, Paul can find it hard when tightly marked (as everyone does to be fair) as he doesn't have great pace. He's a great man to take a score when the game opens up. He scored a couple of lovely points against Cork late on and 2-3 of his scores against Mayo were when the game was nearly done. Tony B on the other hand missed a good few chances against Limerick. Hard to know which way to go.

The GAA has named the referee and match officials for the 2022 GAA Football All-Ireland Senior on July 24th with Sean Hurson confirmed as the referee for the senior final.
Hurson from Tyrone will take charge of the All-Ireland Senior final between Galway and Kerry in what will be his first Senior Final.
Hurson, a member of the Galbally Pearses club, has also refereed the All-Ireland Minor Final in 2018, the All-Ireland U20 Football Final in 2021 and the All Ireland Club Football final in 2022 between Kilcoo and Kilmacud Crokes.
In this year’s Football Championship Hurson refereed the Ulster Provincial Final between Donegal and Derry, the All-Ireland Championship quarter-final between Dublin and Cork, the Leinster Championship semi-final between Kildare and Westmeath, and the Connacht Championship quarter-final between New York and Sligo. He also refereed National league matches between Monaghan and Mayo, Kildare and Dublin, Donegal and Monaghan, and Derry and Galway.
His umpires on the day will be Mark Coney (Ardboe O ‘Donovan Rossa), Mel Taggart (Clonoe O’Rahilly’s), Cathal Forbes (Ardboe O ‘Donovan Rossa) and Martin Conway (Moortown St Malachy’s).
Roscommon’s Paddy Neilan will be the standby referee. The other linesman is Barry Cassidy (Derry) and the Sideline Official will be Sean Laverty (Antrim).

Whether they should be is another question. Tony B isn't really competing with Dara M for a position. Dara is going to start or come on in the half forwards or as a roving corner forward (a la Paudie C) whereas as Tony will be competing with Killian & Paul G for one spot. Now, that could change depending on how the game is going or how Jack wants to attack Galway's set up. If both Dara M and SoB start then there would be a possibility of Tony replacing one or the other (even though that wasn't the case against Mayo). That was the game really where Tony could have been given a longer run out. Actually when you think about it Tony's minutes have decreased as the season has gone on, from starting against Cork & Limerick to just a few minutes against Mayo and nothing against Dublin.

Tyrone's Seán Hurson got the gig. Best of luck to him. Edit: It appears that Mr Hurson and Mr Tally are clubmates. Actually surprised the gig was given to Hurson now, but Tally isn't officially a selector I guess. Second Edit: www.google.com/amp/s/www.the42.ie/galway-kildare-super-8s-4141666-Jul2018/%3famp=1Galway had no issue with Hurson reffing when Tally was involved with them. Hurson should have no drama before the final.

Jack doesn't change too much in terms of his starting 15 and this Championship is proof of that. Having said that he's also been known for making an unexpected call for big games.
My guess at this stage would be that baring injury, close to 14 of the men in the parade last Sunday will be there Sunday week. But he might just shake up the forward line with a Brosnan or a Killian Spillane.
For me Geaney has enough credit in the bank to overlook a poor game the last day. SOB less so, perhaps that's where the change might come.
What's certain is that we need more from the other three forwards than what we saw against Dublin. Whatever combination of Geaney, O'Brien, Brosnan, Killian, Moynihan, Burns is picked they need to bring their shooting boots.

I wouldn't have wanted to hold anyone back going into the game against Dublin because you might end up bringing guys on to rescue a game that's already beyond you. I don't feel quite the same threat of Galway particularly when they seem to have started the last few games slowly. I also think we lost shape a lot when the more experienced players went off the last day. This is a game where I don't mind the idea of planning to bring in the likes of Geaney and David Moran in the second half.

I agree with you on this, as I’ve expressed the same opinion earlier in the thread. We need someone to come off the bench and kick a point or 2, where we fell away under PK was that he would always bring on lads to close out games rather than kill games. We need a killer in the last 10 mins and for me, Tony is that man

Is there another match before the Final. Is there extra time/ penalties on Sunday or does it go to a replay if there level after normal time? Hopefully the latter. There will be a replay in the event of a draw after 70 minutes. The only matches this year where there's a provision for a replay are both finals Incorrect. There will be extra time in the final if level after 70 minutes. Replay if level after extra time.

Killian didn't do much wrong last Sunday (one turnover that was recovered), but only got one shot off and was reluctant to take his man on, he was just recycling mostly. He was fresh, I think we needed more from him. Lacks pace when the first couple of yards are critical taking on an opponent. I think he needs the game to open up to flourish. He won't get much space from Galway. I'd be reluctant to start him and would go with Paul again, and keep Tony for the second half when intensity drops, tiredness creeps in, to provide an injection of pace and take defenders on, to kick scores or draw fouls.

Killian moved past Tony in the Munster final & not all of it was of how Killian played - I was seated close to the Kerry dugout & JO’C was fuming with the goal chances missed by Tony B - I felt walking out that day that Tony had missed a golden chance to cement his place.

That’s what wins all Irelands, look at Dublin and Tyrone over the last few years. What held Mayo back? Feckall off the bench scoring wise

It was a perfect final for the likes of David Gough. They do work in mysterious ways. In 2019 I thought Hurson was nailed on for the final and this year I expected Gough. Mind-boggling. Galway can't complain as they were in the same position in 2018 with the same two individuals. If they complained they would be inadvertently be saying they conspired to cheat in 2018. Why was Hurson fine in 2018 and not 2021? Another year where the GAA admin puts their choice into a cloud of controversy.

Paul Murphy came on for Graham on 62 mins. (was Graham injured?) Graham signalled to Jack on the sideline a minute before coming off pointing at his lower leg. Jack went looking for a sub straight away. Didn't look anything major, walked off ok.

I like Hurson too. It's just he will become a talking point due to the unfairness of GAA HQ placing him in a no win situation. Like Gough in 2019, it is unfortunate for the man. Flip the years and they are perfect choices with no assumed baggage. I expect Galway to say nothing as they were in the exact same position in 2018 and said nothing. I'll stop giving this oxygen and just concentrate on the 15 v 15 on Sunday week.

If it was a contact injury it might be be ok but I fear it's more serious. The poor lad is very unlucky with injuries.
