those scoring graphs do nothing but reassure me that our win the last day was very very comfortable and the much talked about mayo misses were all from areas they shouldnt have been shooting from.
6 chances in 70 minutes in the scoring zone and mayo scored 3 of them. this means its quite clear that all these misses we hear about were quite simply because they werent allowed to create chances in actual scoring zones.
8 of their misses would be very low % shots especially if lads are kicking at angles out to the right, with their right legs and under pressure.

Excatly be nice if we would acknowledge that our backs and half forward line were fantastic defensively and our two corner backs attacked really well discipline was super aswell we conceded very few frees in the game they only scored 3. And their first one was a joke O shea went in wrestling with foley straight away shouldve been a free out.to only gove away so few frees on a wet day against a running team is very impressive. Dean rock got 8 points from frees against cork if we can halve that it would go a long way to victory. As for matchups i think we should put tom sull on costello foley on con and graham sull on rock and tell him to attack at every opportunity he is as fit as a fiddle let him test rock out defensively i think he could make hay here

I think a lot of credit goes to our defence system for sure, but we also must realise there were bad decisions by mayo players to take the shots , influenced by our defence, I think what people are saying, is that better opposition would have recycled these balls to scoring positions. I for one while at the game and not the benefit of replays, did feel in that 40 to 50 minute time frame, Mayo had a huge opportunity to put Kerry under pressure, it did not happen for reasons above, the big question is how will we react if we go behind, as it has not happened to date, which is good, but the quality levels are rising, so it may happen, how do we react, do we maintain our 12 behind the ball or go more offensive.

I have no idea why Aiden O’Shea got a black card, At around that time Kevin McLoughlin rugby tackled Gavin White/Stephen O’Brien to the ground . If you were looking for a classic example of a black card offence this was it. Not this time, says David. Actually , I was surprised he let so much go. He refereed it in the style of David Goldrick rather than in his own usual style.
Veteran, the RTE commentary team suggested the card was for something Aidan O'Shea said to a match official. I agree that the Rugby tackle seemed tailor made for a black card but strangely none was given.

I thought it harsh and outside the spirit of the rule. On the Sunday Game they were suggesting it was for pulling down David Clifford but in the clip they showed it was hard to see who was pulling down who and wouldn't have been classified as cynical in my view. At the time I thought it was for blocking the run of Brian O'Beaglaoich which had happened a few minutes earlier (don't know if it was O'Shea) and looked harsh too.

Aiden grabbed DC and wrestled him to the ground...it was then you nornal wrestling match.
A yellow card in my book though.
The black is for cynical stuff that stops the flow of a game.

I don't like the idea of celebrity referees getting big matches. The more egoless the individual is the better chance he'll referee what's in front of him rather than being concerned about his public image. Best referees are anonymous.

With regard to Sunday , if an eight point win pulling up had been offered prior to throw in we definitely would have taken it . I thought we were poor in patches , turned the ball over a lot at times and took a number of wrong options . In short it probably wouldn't have been enough against Dublin . We still managed to dispose of a team we have struggled with in recent times relatively comfortably and we can only get better going forward . I actually think we are in a really good place , we navigated a massive banana skin on a wet day . I can't remember many wins in the wet in recent years , though I can recall a number of pretty poor defeats . As for the negativity some of it is way over the top ...... We are in the last four , won the League comfortably , won the Munster Championship at a canter , haven't conceded a goal in championship football , strengthened the defence (long may it continue) and won our quarter final by eight points. Going by some of the reaction you'd swear we were turned over by Waterford in Fraher Field and facing a rebuilt in the Tailteann Cup. I can put my hand up as someone who has been negative. This is in the context of some commentators saying that Kerry would now form a dynasty and dominate like Dublin did. That is specifically what I am doubting. I think the negativity has largely been focused on two key themes " we are not very good" and " Kerry are meant to be in a period of dominance ". I feel criticism on the first theme is over the top and not the case . With regard to your point on Kerry being built up in the national press as moving into a "dynastic" era I agree that we are certainly not in such a period and we are unlikely to dominate in such a fashion . I also share your opinion that a number of pundits are pushing this narrative probably with the intention of adding to the pressure surrounding Kerry and potentially testing our perceived "mental frailty".

I think this Kerry team need to win one and then they will push on from there and add a couple of more. The new powers up North a la Derry and Ard Mhaca will have other ideas. To meet the ferocity they bring to the table will be interesting. Anyway, for now, there's the Dubs and if Kerry survive that I'm confident they can take Derry or Galway.

I think Jason Foley marked Kilkenny in the league match. The reason I asked that question is because I feel Ciaran Kilkenny is the pivotal figure on the Dublin team. A very difficult man to counter. Strong, skillful, accurate , smart. On a different issue, I can understand why some people here are peeved by an apparent negativity by some of us when commenting on the Mayo match. The point I would make is that , in isolation the Mayo performance was fine but when some of us were reflecting on that match , subconsciously , we were wondering if that performance would be good enough against the big, blue elephant that is about to enter the room.

We can delve more into match ups next week, but would Gavin White be a better foil to put KK on the back foot, or put Tom Sullivan straigh out on him,

Pessimism isn't the same as constructive criticism and in fairness Vet you are a realist, a gargantuan wan - sure if we can't call it straight what is the forum about? I have my tuppence worth, if of constructive criticism on the Dublin v Kerry thread.

Who marks Kilkenny is definitely a conundrum. Morley is without doubt most suited but that would prevent him from operating in his very important plus 1 role. Beaglaoich is probably the next best option although he has struggled on him before. Tom is our best man marker but Kilkenny would have a big advantage in strength but maybe Tom could still do a job? What are the chance Gavin Crowley comes in to take him? How we manufacture the plus 1 will be interesting because unlike Mayo and the teams in Munster Dublin will play 6 attacking forwards who will hold their positions when Dublin are in possession.

Was half thinking about Gavin Crowley for Ciaran Kilkenny as well , but not sure . Jack isn’t prone to making drastic moves. I have it in my head that Gavin marked him before ? The NFL final when Dean Rock missed the last minute free?
You need a physically strong opponent for Ciaran. He has the strength of an ox. I remember a NFL match in Croke Park when he played at wing forward . Inexplicably, we put Fionn Fitzgerald on him. Good night Irene. Fionn was a got footballer but this was the wrong horse for the wrong course. I think EF was in charge that year.

Con seems to be the man though to make the difference. Every time he gets possession the chances of a green flag increases.
And i though Dublin will need goals to win.

Did a brilliant job in the drawn game though holding him scoreless. To keep a top player quiet 2 days in a row was always going to be a massive ask. Also to be fair to Crowley that time he was trying to hold the centre to a degree as our 6.

Foley has come a long long way but O’Callaghan will be the ultimate test for him. His directness is a huge challenge for any defender. Foley has the ability to limit him though, let’s hope he comes up with a huge performance on the day. If he does then we’re in a great position.

Well having been away for a few weeks I wasn't keeping too much of an eye on this forum. But catching up on things here over the last 24 hours I'm a bit taken aback by the general levels of pessimism and despondency after our quarter final win.
Granted I had to make do with GAA GO and yes Kerry were relatively poor for much of the game but surely the long lay-off, lack of any competitive test since the Cork game on 7 May and the terrible conditions are serious mitigating factors for this? Despite all the above we still managed to beat a team that made the last two All Ireland's by 8 points with DC on one leg and 2-3 other starters not available.
It reminds me of the unreasonable doom and gloom on here after Tyrone nipped us by a point in the League despite it being a game that meant nothing to Kerry as they were already in the League Final a week later.
We are exactly where we want to be and are playing the opponents we all knew would be waiting for us. I'm a pessimist by nature myself, one of my more undesirable traits, but thankfully that glass half empty personality has never translated into my sporting obsession with Kerry. When it comes to the Green and Gold I'm the quintessential optimist and I'm traveling to Croker next Sunday in both and expectation.
Why? Well because I believe our desire and need is greater than Dublin's. We have endured 13 long years without beating them in the Championship and this is a group that know they left an All Ireland and the chance to deny Dublin a historic moment behind them in 2019. This is now their first chance since then to exact retribution.
I also believe Kerry are significantly better now than they were in 19 whereas Dublin have regressed. And bare in mind that over the last 13 years Kerry have only lost narrowly to Dublin each time and could and maybe should have won all those games. Even when Dublin were in their pomp in 15 and 16, Kerry teams not as good as this crop were there or there abouts.
We have the defence, we have the fire power up front. Its time to put this past decade of under performance and famine to an end and put our jack boots (pardon the pun) on the blue elephants neck and press until the life is finally squeezed out of them.
I'm expecting a defining performance from this group Sunday week. Their time is now and its the time for them to become the team we all think they are. Seize your destiny lads and leave Dublin trampled in your wake.
An Riocht Abu!

Yip, should be interesting and like marking DC or indeed any star forward, it is damage limitation and the advantage is always with the attacker. Jason has rocket pace and his S&C is amazing - it was his other capabilities that has him there in the first place so Ballydonogue is justifiably looking forward to having an All Star among us by the end of next month. And as for the other key Dublin forwards, yes, we have plenty of manpower. Next week will be hot on here with many seeing this as the final and which will only delight na fir Doire agus Gaillimh.

see below for list of cynical play meriting a Black card
• To deliberately pull down an opponent • To deliberately trip an opponent with the hand, arm leg or foot • To deliberately collide with an opponent after he has played the ball away or for the purpose of taking him out of the movement of play • To remonstrate in an aggressive manner to match officials • To threaten or to use abusive or provocative language or gestures to an opponent or teammate
