ArdMhacha, if I was in your shoes I would watch the match and extra time but I would forget the penalty shoot out. That is what I would do if Kerry were involved in that situation.

“Journalism is in the gutter “ . Rarely have truer words been spoken. I no longer listen/watch watch current affairs on radio/tv and rarely buy newspapers. Sadly, rather than dispensing news/facts too many journalists have become activists and propagandists for a particular point of view. Of course this state of affairs is not confined to this country. And then we have the 'recommenders' - from bad to worse. I still engage with media but of course make my own 'adjustments' when I scratch the surface. Otherwise we grow ignorant and out of touch. BTW I know you're snubbing me over my issue with your gargantuan words - I only went to UL/NIHE, not UCC! Still if I snub you I don't know what you are at and we couldn't have that now could we? On the subject of media bias we have some mouth pieces in Kerry, though in fairness Radio Kerry's Jerry Sullivan has no bones about exploring the skeletons in the closet - credit where it is due.

A superb match and I was delighted to be there to watch it. Galway were the better side and seemed home and hosed until those few minutes of carnage in their small square. That point by Rian to level it up was a thing of beauty and the cheers from Armagh fans made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck, I genuinely felt that a wave of emotion would carry them over the line. The ironic thing is the row lifted a completely deflated Galway and gave them a new sense of purpose as they were all walking off with their heads down. Fairplay to Galway for pulling it out of the bag as after they went a point down in extra time, I thought they were done again. The 2 goals in 2 mins in extra time was an unbelievable thing to witness as the crowd was electric. Agreed Kerrybhoy. I had my kids with me who revelled in the excitement and drama. And secretly… we all bloody loved that melee at the end

That was the crux of it right there that fella had no right to be running in if it was a fan doing it he would be answering to the gardai. Other than that it was harmless stuff really bit of pushing it kind of added to it for me (i didnt know at the time re the gouge i was upper cusack ).

I agree with you on the hangers on joining in. The bizarre thing to all this is that of Comer had hit him a dig after the eye gouge then Comer would have been sent off and Galway penalised immediately while Armagh would have been no worse off

The 2 goals in 2 mins in extra time was an unbelievable thing to witness as the crowd was electric. Yes i agree. The Rian oNeill score was one of the great moments in Croke Park. When Jemar Hall kicked the lead point straight after the amazing this was that Armagh retreated en masse and conceded the kickout. McDaid kicked an unreal equaliser but Galway found it too easy to take the ball into the kicking zone. Contrast that to the end of the 2017 final when Dublin players pulled down every Mayo player in sight after Rock kicked that free. The Mayo keeper Clarke had to go to the sideline with the kickout and it went over it. Armagh have a bit to go to learn how to ruthlessly close out these games. I was there that day and it was the lowest possible point in the history of football in my opinion. It was a disgrace to the history of the game. Far worse than anything that happened in the Armagh Galway game. Not really spoken about by the media then as it was Dublin.

Kerry and Paul Galvin were a victims of that kind of scenario against an Ulster side, remember? How? I m from Kerry and have lived in Dublin a long time and work with people from lots of different counties but since moving to Dublin(I still go home alot) I have felt that both Kerry and Dublin and Dublin are the two counties with the biggest chips on their shoulders. Dublin felt they never got credit for their wins with comment like home venues money etc and felt there was a media with hunt v Diarmuid Connolly and Philly Mcmahon. Both were authors of their own destiny. Same as Galvin. Galvin deserved his punishments. Many in Kerry called for Anthony Tohill to be removed from Sunday Game for highlighting Galvin dirty play (, he was nt wrong) and he has nt been on TSG in years. Spillane highlighted Connolly and McStay highlighted Mcmahon. Most dirty play is highlighted and rightly so. We have sinned too. We had our bad boys too. Not all players are like Séamus Moynihan (a real tough man with no dirt) It's one thing to call out dirty play but the comment by Tohill brought up Galvin being a teacher. What's that got to do the price of fish? No need to bring up personal life when complaining about acts on the field. Nasty comment that led to the Kerry contingent telling Tohill to jog on for the Aussie Rules. Not saying Galvin was an angel but at least get your facts right. Tohill needed to go.

Not saying Galvin was an angel but at least get your facts right. Tohill needed to go. Maybe get your own facts right. Tadhg Kennelly and Tommy Walsh played under Tohill. There was no BOYCOTT. Other Kerry players were nt selected. Bomber Liston defended Tohills stance at the time. Tohill did nt tell a lie. For a teacher his antics were far from acceptable. If it were someone from another county you might condemn their actions but when it's our own it's ah there all against us. They are all wrong bar my Johnny. Galvin was wrong. Tohill was right. Were Kennelly and Walsh current Kerry players at the time they played under Tohill after the Galvin incident? The fact you think someone's personal life should make someone held out for a higher regard in an amateur sport shows you lack the common decency as well. All athletes should be treated the same for their actions on the field, calling their personal life into the equation is not punditry, its pathetic. So under your ideals would a father of two get a higher ban for setting a poor example than a father of one? Maybe GSOC should have gotten involved everytime Aidan O'Mahony gave a foul away. Absolute rubbish. TLDR You can slate a Galvin/McMahon for underhanded behaviour but you don't make it personal or use their personal life as a weapon.

For all that *e above, look up 'occupational hazard' and stick to the beginners program - the when 'what do you think of that Joe Brolly' comes to mind, just Google a hoor by the name of Nomulus Mutari - in ancient Ballyfireside truthology he is the product of what happened when an unstoppable force met the immovable object!
BTW what is big Anthony Tohill's day job?

So Galway v Derry in the other semi final.
Both sides are expertly coached in retaining possession which can lead to 'round the house' handpassing phases for 2 or 3 minutes till the lad in the best position takes a potshot.
The number of scores that will come from counter attacks will be small i expect.
Derry have managed to create and score goals during these possession phases and they have been vital.
I think all forwards and midfield scored from play for Galway in the semi final. One of their half back line ...Kieran Molloy ...scored too as did a sub ...o Laoi...who came on at half back. They possibly have more natural footballers than Derry but Derry seem to play more to a defined system.
Will Sean Kelly at fullback for Galway put that red card nonsense behind him and play to his potential?
Will Derry mix things up a bit and test the Galway fullback line with a few high dropping balls?
Again very hard to call this game. I think Galway might shade it. Their midfield is outstanding and there is a tradition in Galway football that expects to win when they do get a good crop together.

Galway came through a fair aul test with Armagh grabbing two late goals, back in 2019 their minor team had Cork bate only to concede a last minute goal and collapse in extra time. Galway rallied more than once in extra time against Armagh. This though must be diluted by having an extra man. But, every time they got a belt they came back. That should make them a step ahead of Derry and given they beat them convincingly in Owenbeg also gives them a psychological lift. Should still be a close encounter as Derry have plenty momentum too…

Be interesting to see how Derry get on against a forward line with as many threats as galway. Everyone they have played so far has been a case of mark their one or two forwards tighly with the excellent mckaigue and rodgers. Comer and walsh scored 4 from play the last day only even if derry keep them scoreless i think galway have enough to kick 16 ,17 points against Derry who have relied heavily on goals so far.

The novelty alone of Saturday's game will make it fascinating. It's a hard one to call, Derry look so good all year but Galway have operated at a higher level given they have been yo-yoing between D1 and 2. Have Galway more big game expereince and will that matter, and who exactly have Derry really beaten given how poor Ulster has turned out to be this year. Is it arguable Connacht was a higher standard?
Goodness knows, but the traditionalist/romantic in me would love to see a Kerry/Galway final if that's how things could pan out this weekend, memories of 2000 and that replay that seemed to be at Halloween it was so late in the year.
Not much coverage of the Tailteann Cup Final, its gotten lost amid the fallout from the hurling last weekend and the two football semi-finals.
This condensed season is giving no time or chance for fixtures to breath and get a proper build up. The All Ireland Hurling Final will be on us before we have even processed what might happen to Kerry on Sunday. Then start after again it will be the Football Final and whoever makes that.
A three week gap to the All-Ireland's should have been maintained and I do think the Tailteann Cup should be given its own weekend to allow proper coverage of it.

Cavan and Westmeath players are probably delighted to be playing before 60000 though on Saturday.
Playing the Joe McDonagh final before the Leinster hurling final was a big deal for Antrim and Kerry players.

The slagging match going on here re Tohill/Galvin is a joke. In an amateur sport your say job shouldn't be commented on. Did Jim Gavin use guerilla tactics on Mayo when they pulled their players down. Did he bring the Army into disrepute. No he didn't. Only let himself down.

Did Jim Gavin use guerilla tactics on Mayo when they pulled their players down. Did he bring the Army into disrepute. No he didn't. Only let himself down. 'Occupational hazard' it is knows as and it ain't fallacy. The only interviews I recall with Jim were about how he successfully applied his 'day job' expertise - managers talk but say nil re football anymore. Ah I was only fishing re Tohill - a pal of the Bomber's, two gentle giants I'd say. I suppose Brolly is the standard bearer here - his day job is picking holes in court cases and as opposed to broad analysis with highlights. PG is also noteworthy lab material here and as is Pats. Though revealing, such analysis ain't necessarily derogatory and any negativity can be more than off set by positives. I'd say teachers make good GAA managers - good at imparting and inspiring, compassionate; think Cody, Jackoc, etc. I suppose that they also train schools' teams and have summer holidays is a help - did a farmer ever manage an inter county team? PatS can be very forthright and which may stem from the disciplinarian that being a teacher indoctrinates in one from having to steer latchicos like the rest of us - our beloved Fr Brian D'Arcy spoke of 'Armagh and Galway wrestling' alongside PatS somewhat contrasting views on the matter in The Sunday World. I find all this hilarious really, comparing a teacher to a holy man and of course Brolly is a good auld skin too - his heart is in the right place, set in between what makes you burst your hole laughing, what can well the eyes and then what makes you want to wring the wee hoor's neck. Ah great that Fr Brian was at the games and I believe he had great crack at the hurling too - he was explaining to Alex Ferguson the 'phenomenon' of intermingling fans and volunteered rare insight on our games. Maybe he'll make it onto TSG, maybe someone will interview him on it in the long 6 months of no inter county ahead?

Yet you have no problem in making an allegation that you know nothing about. You don't know if Jim Gavin gave those instructions. Maybe it was another member of the backroom team or more than likely the players decided themselves at tha time. It was a terrible act but I sincerely doubt that Gavin said "lads if we are up one point in injury time and David Clarke has a kickout. Make sure 5 or 6 of you pull your player to the ground. We will decide which 5 or 6 do it later". Then again maybe he is Nostradamus. You are accusing without any proof. The onfield generals had time to put a pre planned scenario into operation while Rock lined up the free. Last Sunday Kyle Hayes went back into the fullback line while Diarmaid Byrnes lined up that last free. The odds on Galway keeper taking a short puckout, receiving the pass back and launching the ball into the Limerick square were very high.... Kyle Hayes fetched it and the ref blew full time.

Galway all day long for me. Galway had only 13 days to mentally and physically get over the Armagh game. I think they may struggle to get to the pace of the game and if Derry start well then Galway could be in trouble.
