For me, Darran O Sullivan is crucial to Kerry's chances the next day. If he start at CHF, he will effectively have a free role if our half forwards don't drop back as Cian O Sullivan will drop off to cover Donaghy if he starts at FF.
If we can get Darran in 3/4 yards of space running through the middle, he will cause all sorts of problems for Dublin. No defender likes a player like him coming at you full tilt.
If nothing else, it will ask questions of Cian O Sullivan such that he might come out to cover him and leave Donaghy with more room to operate inside.

Do Kerry match the Dubs for workrate? Where is the hunger and intensity they showed in extra time in Limerick two years ago? Have Kerry the humility to admit that Dublin have the better footballers and so to win they need to work harder, play smarter and take advantage of chances? Big questions. Good points. I'd like to see this Kerry team physically throw down a marker to Dublin in the early stages. McMahon bullied Kerry last year and it's been a long time since we came to match with the intensity we showed in Limerick that day. They simply refused to be beaten on that occasion - pure thickness! We need more of that. Someone to really take the game to Dublin and pick up from where the likes of Galvin and Tomas left off. We need someone like Crowley, or hopefully Moran to start throwing his weight around. God knows he's a big man - he should be bulling at the chance to get one over Fenton after the last two meetings

1 Brendan Kealy
2 Shane Enright 3 Mark Griffin 4 Briain O'Beaglaoich
5 Paul Murphy 6 Peter Crowley 7 Killian Young
8 Anthony Maher 9 John Buckley
10 Stephen O'Brien 11 Darren O'Sullivan 12 Jonathan Lyne
13 BJ Keane 14 Paul Geaney 15 James O'Donoghue
We need pace and legs to beat dublin. Move it fast and wide keep it away from the middle as much as we can. Murphy has to start on Kilkenny. No brainer. Crowley on Connolly has to. Enright has to take Brogan. Maher and Buckley are better workers than Sheehan and Moran. Just as good in the air and stronger won't get horsed out of it. Also better tacklers. They will tire Moran and Barry O'Sullivan to come in. Lyne can't play in the backs not tight enough too much of a ball watcher.
He can play wing forward and cover back and win the ball around midfield. Darren and O'Brien can keep Sullivan and Small from coming forward. Barry John would be perfect for McMahon hit him early knock him off his stride. He will keep him honest. Cooper won't attack if we can get fast ball into Geaney and Jamsie. They can win it for us if we can keep the game tight and give them room. Cooper and Donnacha would be great subs to bring on with 15 mins to go. Donaghy only if were losing with 15 minutes to go but I think that the high ball won't work. They always over do it and Dublin will expect it. He's my last resort at this stage of his career. A great player for Kerry but he's past it. Sheehan and Moran would be other options later in the game. Mike Geaney an option also late in the game. He can't score though.
Morley and Marc to come in the backs late in the game. O'Mahony fouls too much I would not risk it he gives away too many frees. Could cost us. Gavin has had Fitzmaurice number on the sidleines and he will have to change it up and show him something different. We can't give away goals. That will kill us. We can't go for a shootout either Dublin have better players. Keep it tight, dont turn the ball over as much as we can and move it with pace when we turn it over. We can beat them but it will take a brilliant display. That's a very good Dublin team.

A great player for Kerry but he's past it. Firstly this is a Dublin team without Ross O'Carroll. Secondly we overdo it when we bring him on as a sub. If he starts hopefully we can mix it up. Thirdly his presence alone can be a tactic pulling Cian O'Sullivan out of position. Fourthly... and most importantly... we have been doing the same thing against Dublin and --- newsflash --- it hasn't worked. In 2011 Donaghy played WF, in 2013 he didn't start and in 2015 he was dropped. We need something different to trouble the Dubs and while he isn't at his peak Donaghy is certainly a dangerous weapon. We need to panic these boys and take them out of their comfort zone.

I'd throw Barry John Keane and also Stephen O'Brien into the category of flat track bullies- players who shine against the likes of Clare, Tipp, Kildare etc and league matches but wouldn't do it in a big game. They have no business playing against Dublin. I was very pleased to have that "flat track bully" Stephen O'Brien playing against Tyrone last year. Can you recall his performance?

Another thing is that nearly everything fell nicely for Dublin in 2015...the two games v mayo, the poor day the Kerry management had, the ref didn't give much Kerry's way in the way of breaks. Maybe the small inches will move against Dublin this year. A lot went Kerry's way in the 2014 final...Donegal could so easily have had two goals. I will be happy out if Kerry players and management are the best they can be the next day....if that's not enough ...fair play to Dublin.... But the only managers still with us to retain are micko, Sean Boylan and billy Morgan so it ain't easy Jim...

Don't understand the appeal for starting Donaghy, we would be much better off with a hole in front of the Dublin goal and have James, Darren and Stephen o Brien running hard into it. Best way to put the full back line under pressure imo instead of a hail mary ball on Donaghy's head and hoping for a miracle

I feel we need to declare war from minute 1 in this game. The Dubs don't really care for the opposition getting in their faces. If Donaghy does start though, he will have to stay in the forwards. Also, the other forwards will have to support him. Geaney has good instincts in that regard. I think Darran O'Sullivan is the best option at centre forward. It is a terrible pity he wasn't brought on before half time last year.

You have to tell the other half forwards to keep their position and put Darran CHF. That will force their sweeper Cian O Sullivan to go further up the pitch to mark Darran directly. This essentially means its a 15 vs 15 match and if so, Murphy has to start wing back

A shovel might be the best and most convenient way to start Annascaultilidie and if you could get the co-operation of the ground staff , you could have it filled in at half time, allowing you begin fresh excavations at the other end in the second half. Lends a whole new meaning to the requirement that Kerry dig in, dig deep etc

It's very much drawn from the Christy Moore tactics book, well spotted. But let's keep it hush hush for now...a bit like playing Bryan Sheehan in goal and Tommy Walsh top of the left ( or maybe even in the hole !). It all sounds a bit sub-teranean to me but I understand that it's all the rage in soccer for people to be playing in the hole behind the striker or some such. If it trips up the dubs, we won't complain....

For all their undoubted brilliance Dublin can be as cynical as any side and strategically know when and where to foul. In your selected team, who would take the long distance frees? (Not Kealy, let's be serious). Or failing to have a long distance free taker would the strategy be to work it short? Tyrone were a prime example last weekend of how having an unreliable free taker can cost a side in a game of fine margins.

Seriously, if Donaghy and Darren don't start I think I'll stay in the pub.... Buckley at midfield is not a bad idea NaCrocaigh - is he playing well recently - thought he was injured? I would prefer to see Moran starting though instead of Maher. I think he has a big game in him - showed some flashes of his 2014 self in last couple of games, and he is the one guy who can place accurate ball in low or high for the lads inside.

Our full forward line, should they follow their men up the field or stay put?
Take for instance Colm in last year's All-Ireland final, back in his own half.
Do you take a chance and say let them go in the hope you can turnover ball?
Another thing if Donaghy starts full forward whoever is corner forward be ready to catch the breaks. It beggars belief how poorly we execute the high ball tactics.

He has hardly played 5 full games for the Dublin footballers in his entire career. He has played for more hurling for Dublin actually. I suspect ye are referring to his brother Rory O'Carroll!! Mixing up the O'Carroll brothers is something one would expect of journalists but not informed Kerry football folk.

Rockie you state " it will take our managements cuteness ". .... Don't you understand that is part of our problem ? Where were you last year. Cuteness is in short supply. The rest of you post does make sense though I would have Griffin midfield. Pace and speed will be an essential element against the Dubs ..... and even that may not be enough as man to man they are better athletes and can play a bit as well. I think that, right now, they have the better footballers. Simple as that. However, I do agree that the sideline have been poor in the last 2 finals, league and championship. There seemed to be too much method and not enough fast, forward moving play. Everything seems far too laboured and I haven't seen anything different in our championship games to date, as yet.

Jigser - can you explain the logic here? Barry John is a knacky footballer, with good point scoring ability. Power is not in his locker, Darren might be weak in defensive tackling but BJK is not the solution. Darran is more powerful, faster and is also a big goal threat and has been solid all season, imo. Barry John is better coming in when the power has dissipated from the game, when lads are tiring and making bad decisions, then the poaching BJK eye is best used. IMO. Darran has delivered in big games - I've not seen Barry ever command a big performance for Kerry seniors in a tough high pressure game (starting or indeed as a sub)- sounds harsh, am open to correction. Of couse limited opportunbities - but there's a reason for that. I like him, but think the Dubs backs would steamroll him. I was just using Barry John as an example really. He's like a terrier on the field, gets in the oppositions' faces, etc. I've never been a fan of him starting either but there may be a job for him from the start the next day. Match him up with Cooper and see what happens I'd also prefer Darran to start to take the game to them from the off but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't start and I think out of all the forwards that started the last day his starting place is not secure. I like your Coopering formula for BJK. Cooper is imo one of the most improved and valuable players in the Dublin team. He has some engine too and hardy as for relatively small guy. Gutty as fcuk mind, with a number of sneaky digs and hits on his rap sheet, but manages to evade the crimson card. I'm sure he wasn't a random casualty of Aidan's in April. A Dublin version of Ricey. How does it go, "everyone wants one of them in their team". :-|. Then again as pointed out forwards have only some say in the back they are met with

A lot of great posts on here and suitably a lot of different combinations which may give us an idea of how difficult the Kerry management job actually is.. Firstly....I think we have to be cognisant of the fact that all players are not totally available injury wise....Maher, Colm, Johnny and even James are only back.... Also...talk about using the young guns at midfield isn't really relative as they are not making the breakthrough as quick as we would hope and seem to be constantly hampered by injuries. Giving a guy a run at corner back or corner forward is not the same as starting at midfield in an All-Ireland semi final against 'arguably' one of the best teams ever. We definitely have a squad that is capable of beating the Dubs...how we use it will be very important....I think we are going to need our 6 subs (whomever they are) to come in and play better than the man they replaced. Imagine replacing James after 55 minutes after he has giving his all with Colm Cooper, Maher with Bryan Sheehan, young Begley with Marc Ó Sé, Stephen with BJK, Donnchadh with Johnny Buckley and that is not even allowing for Aidan, Lyno etc... Lets stay positive and believe that we can do it....this is KERRY after all...

Ultimately the success or failure of Donaghy at full forward depends totally on the quality of the ball coming in, which all too often is dismal. Are the skill levels on this Kerry team up to the standards required? Is it a preconceived notion that all Kerry teams are skillful? Perhaps we think this bunch are better then they actually are in that regards.. No doubting fellas like the Gooch, Geaney and James O'D in the skill stakes but after that I am struggling.
