Kerry V Cork Electric Ireland Munster GAA Football Minor Football Championship Final
The Kerry Minor Football Team to play Cork in the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Final at Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday next (12 noon) shows one change in personnel from the side that defeated Clare in the semi final – Bryan Sweeney, who played in last year’s All Ireland final, starts at full forward with Ferdia O’Brien the player to lose out.
The team, captained by Seán O’Shea of Kenmare is as follows: 1. Billy Courtney Dr. Crokes 2. Micheál Reidy Ballymacelligott 3. Niall Collins Listowel Emmets 4. Graham O'Sullivan Dromid Pearses 5. Michael Potts Dr. Crokes 6. Daniel O’Brien Glenflesk 7. Micheál Foley Ballydonoghue 8. Mike Breen Beaufort 9. Mark Ryan Rathmore 10. Dara Moynihan Spa 11. Sean O’Shea Kenmare 12. The team contains three of the starting fifteen from last year’s All Ireland final win over Tipperary – Billy Courtney, Sean O’Shea and Bryan Sweeney while three others who played in that final – Daniel O’Brien, Mike Breen and Graham O’Sullivan also make the starting fifteen. Five of the St Brendans Killarney Hogan Cup winning team are included, Billy Courtney, Daniel O’Brien, Michael Potts, Dara Moynihan and David Clifford.
Kerry and Cork clash in Minor Final Kerry and Cork renew rivalry at Minor level when they clash in the Munster Minor Final in the curtain raiser at Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday (throw-in 12 noon). Kerry are of course All Ireland champions for the past two years and they can still call on the likes of Sean O’Shea, Billy Courtney, Daniel O’Brien, Graham O’Sullivan, Bryan Sweeney and Mike Breen from last year’s successful panel. Peter Keane has taken over the reins from Jack O’Connor and it remains to be seen if the Cahersiveen man can work the oracle in the same fashion as his near neighbour from Dromid did. Cork have not won the Munster title since 2010 but they do come to Killarney with a big reputation this year. Last year they went down to the Kingdom by just a point after extra time in a classic in Austin Stack Park without having the chance to redeem themselves through the back door system. No doubt this year’s squad will want to reverse that result. Games between these two sides rarely fail to ignite and early comers to the Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday could be in for a treat. Referee is Alan Kissane of Waterford.

Would Kerry be favourites to win the weekend? Wouldn't know a lot of the players so hard to judge

Would Kerry be favourites to win the weekend? Wouldn't know a lot of the players so hard to judge Obviously its a cliche but you never know what minor team will show up on a given day. Cork could and should have beaten Kerry last year, they were knocked out and then Kerry cantered to an All Ireland. Sunday will probably be similar. A few question marks hang over midfield and maybe the full back line, the forwards look very strong. Whatever the result Sunday both teams are into the quarter final but a win over Cork would give our lads the confidence to go all the way.

The raw materials are there for a win over Cork but they will need to improve significantly over their performance against Clare - the players themselves will know this more than anybody and if they don't perform I could see major changes for the quarter final. This crop have enough ability - they just need to produce it and for management to get the best team on the field. Winners play Ulster losers and the Munster losers play the Ulster winners on the August bank holiday weekend. Derry play Donegal in the Ulster final.

Would Kerry be favourites to win the weekend? Wouldn't know a lot of the players so hard to judge No bookies odd on minor games any more but I'd say that the fact that there are 5 of the Hogan Cup team in operation would have Kerry favourites with the bookies. There is a fair amount of talented footballers there but you cna never rely on minors and a decent teams will always beat a bunch of talented individuals. Cork schools didn't really do a whole pile this year but there is the 6 months age difference and schools/county can go different ways - Weight of numbers counts more at underage so Cork will surely be Heard some Cork folk who have very little belief in a lot of the quality of the management in the traditional Cork football schools. Cork beat Tipp by 3 points and gave Limerick a thumping (+15 points) so they clearly are no mugs. I'd give them every chance.

Glad to see Daniel O'Brien back. Surprised Naughton, Shaw, and O'Brien didn't get the nod. The Full back line will be up against it if Cork play Damien Gore Mark Buckley and Shane O'Driscoll in there. That could be where Cork will target. O'Driscoll is a nice footballer son of John O'Driscoll who played with Cork in the 90s. Gore is very accurate. Buckley is good for scores too. I would have moved Mike Breen back there to make Kerry stronger and started Bryan Sweeney in Midfield but the lads must have earned their places in Training so good luck to them. Great to see Cormac Linnane back on the bench.

There is huge experience running through this minor team. Billy Courtney, Micheál Reidy, Niall Collins, Graham O Sullivan, Dan O Brien, Mike Breen, Sean O Shea,Brian Sweeney,Ferdia O Brien, David Shaw and Cormac Linnane all either played or were part of the 30 players that were part of last years All Ireland winning squad. Add the experience that Billy Courtney, Michael Potts, Dan O Brien, Dara Moynihan, David Clifford, David Naughton, David Shaw and Niall O Donoghue will have gained from winning the Corn Uí Mhuire and the Hogan cup earlier this year. It is rare that a County minor team have this level of big game experience and for this reason I would be extremely confident that Kerry will win with a bit to spare.

Can we dream of 3-in-a-row? Long road to go for sure but the talent is clearly there. Well done to the Kerry minors on a magnificent victory over Cork.

Great win!! Cork put it up to them but they stood up well to it. Dara Moynihan was very good. Sean O'Shea, Bryan Sweeney , Mike Breen, Daniel O'Brien, Mike Foley all very solid. Overall they were all good. They definitely have a good shot at the 3 in a row.

The jewel in the crown is David Clifford- when we needed someone to step up he was the man- a great goal and some fantastic points. He is a special talent.

Can someone confirm this for me, is David Clifford a minor again next year? I have had in my head all day but not sure where I heard it. There is something very special about him, he's so cool on the ball, like a young Maurice Fitz. He is some talent.

Kicked a booming point from under the terrace near the end. Enjoyed watching him play yesterday.

Some footballer. will be interesting to watch his development

Nice win. We maybe relaxed too much after our two early goals but the response to Cork's third goal was terrific. Foley, Dara Moynihan, Seanie Se and Clifford were the stand out performers for me.

Another good display by our minors yesterday. Room for improvement but they certainly look as if they will be involved at the business end.

Just watched the highlights of the game on TG4. It's amazing that the second Cork goal was given especially when you see where the umpire was positioned when he gave the goal (behind the net). He made a guess and got it spectacularly wrong. From the terrace behind the goal it looked well outside the line. Umpire got luck Kerry won. Unbelievable this could happen a day after the hurling incident.

Watching the highlights make Clifford look even better. Looks to be arguably our most promising minor since Paddy Curran about 10 years ago. Hopefully he is managed well going forward

Great win and that is 4 in a row in Munster for the minor grade. Forward division particularly impressive but I would have some concerns at the back where I thought the Cork 14 & 15 gave our boys a lot of trouble. Totally different type of game next up with Ulster opposition (either Derry or Donegal) and the forwards will be asked a differernt set of questions - defence will have to be stronger and midfield more agressive. Very hopeful for this squad but a hard road still ahead and nothing taken for granted.

Yeah I thought it hadn't crossed the line in real time - (like most in the crowd ) and watching it back on TG4 I am of the same opinion (although the camera angle wasn't the best) Sometimes I think that having 2 umpires means that neither of them concentrate as much as they should - often seems to me when there are incidents with umpires, both give the impression that they were expecting the other lad to be concentrating 100% whereas both seem to assume they are there to be in the backup position.

Na crocaigh , you know a lot about underage, do you see any changes?, I agree with onlykerry, ,very impressive team but far from the finished article and a lot more needed if we are to win an all ireland. To be fair this team look like the real deal

Kildare beat Meath last night leaving just eight minor teams in the contention for the AI. Kerry, Cork, Galway, Mayo, Derry, Donegal, Laois and Kildare. The QF's will see Munster play Ulster and Connaught play Leinster (provincial winner against provincial loser) on the August B/H weekend - venues TBA.

Meath are the only side to beat Kerry in challenge games prior to the Munster championship- Having beaten Dublin , Meath were expected to win Leinster so it's a major surprise that they have exited; Kerry are probably favourites at this stage but it's a long road ahead!
