It was more our missed goal chances which cost us the game .. The missed free's and Morgan meltdown didnt help but if we'd converted at least one of those goals then game on ... But at the end of the day ifs & buts dont count and Kerry closed out the game better than we did .. it was a bit like 08 in reverse.. Spot on there Dermot. At the game my initial view was that Kerry were the better side, went 5 points up, allowed Tyrone back level, before pulling away again. After watching again, I thought Tyrone could have and possible should have won this game. But for the goal chances, the lost kickouts, and the missed frees, Tyrone would have been a few points ahead. Different ball game when Tyrone are leading with 10 mins to go, as Monaghan found out. Still very impressive for Kerry to kick the last 4 points. Just like Tyrone did in 08 with the scores level and Declan's goal chance saved. So it was poor execution that cost Tyrone the game, not the cards and penalties. For the first peno it was a 2v1 collision and maybe a 50/50 call for a penalty. For the second, once the ref saw McNulty dragging Aidan's arm he was never going to get the call. Maybe before that he was fouled, but it was less than 50/50. So to get one of those 2 penalties, Tyrone can't really complain. Now for the cards, I am going to go against the grain and say the Enright tackle was not a black card. Here's what the rules say: www.gaa.ie/about-the-gaa/rules-and-regulations/1. Deliberately pull down an opponent. 2. Deliberately trip an opponent with the hand(s), arm, leg or foot. 3. Deliberately body collide with an opponent after he has played the ball away or for the purpose of taking him out of a movement of play. Enright charged into Harte and, yes he knocked him down. But he did not pull him to the ground. At no stage of the collision was he holding onto Harte to pull him down. So yellow card for rough play correct decision. The McNamee tackle on Cooper was similar and should have been a yellow. Seems like a lot of people calling for black for cynical play don't know the 3 specific definitions of cynical play above. Tyrone should have got a black and red for the Cooper incident at the end. There was a hand trip (black card) followed by a strike to the head / dangerous play (red card).

Watching the game in real time, especially in the first half, it appeared to me that Deegan let Tyrone away with numerous technical fouls. Watching it back again last night I probably wouldn't be as hard as him, given the conditions he needed to let the game flow as best he could. The furore over the black/yellow cards - there is too much being made of it. The analysts kept going on about the Shane Enright incident as if it changed the game. The way Shane was playing on Sunday, I don't think losing him with 15 minutes to go would have been fatal, despite Marc already being off the pitch. If Enright had to go off he would have been replaced. If McNabb had gotten the red card he should have, then Tyrone would have been down to 14 with 6 minutes to play. Also, was there a pull down for the first penalty? If he fell to the ground like that over by the sideline around the 45, he would have eventually been called for overcarrying. Like you say considering the weather conditions, media attention around Tyrone, history of the teams, magnitude of the game....it was actually a really good refereeing display. If we look hard enough we can find faults anywhere, and if we want to find a fault as is the case with Brolly's analysis of the referee then a fault can always be found. Enough bad referee's in the country, stupid to be criticising the decent ones.

Just had a chance to watch the match back. I'll post about the match later but, I have to say the analysis was diabolical. I'd say half time and full time coverage must have favoured Tyrone 10:1 . Kerry got no credit and according to joe if Tyrone stuck their goal chances they would have won. You can say that about any game. Their take on the second penalty was a joke altogether. All totally in agreement it was a definite penalty when the commentators themselves said it was a dive. Firstly Mairice Deegan was 50 yards away. Then when footage showed he was next to the incident it change to " the refs had a meeting to say Tyrone wee divers" Michael Lyster doesn't seem up to the task of chairing the debate the way Billo used in the soccer. Darragh Maloney is a much better presenter. Ciara whelan sickens me with his so called analysis. For him to get I his high horse about cynicism is laughable. He was one of the most dirty f**kers to play the game in the last while. Usually facilitated by refs who for some reason seemed to cop out from sending him off. If anyone has the sky coverage an analysis I would love to see it. More guff, he wasn't any more or less dirty than most midfielders. I can recall 2 incidents, one v Mayo's Ronan McGarrity and another v a Meath midfielder (could have been McDermott) where he threw a box. You might be able to add to the charge sheet. The bould Tomas sits there like a choirboy on Sunday nights, he was as good as any when it came to dishing it. And his brother was the classic knee in the back merchant, ask Nicholas Murphy. So go easy there, I think what some of you want on this site is for analysts to be cheerleaders, cos by christ ye have enough of them batting for you in the printed media.

Watching the game again too, we missed as many chances as they did and much of which was due to conditions. The first penalty wasn't one and neither was the 2nd. Marc's black was harsh as he was in slip slide momentum but ref wouldn't see that, then again it was the linesman who ruled and he should see that. Tyrone are not as good as I first thought and on a dry day we'd have 'em hosed down by HT. The gulf in class is massive and 18 v 12 scores tells the story. Brolly has now lost the plot on Twitter, he is playing Ulster v The Rest card, he is employed as a objective national pundit, and it's not even his own county who lost. He must call by Specsavers on his way to the shrink to address his Small Man syndrome. I suppose the wee nip and tucker nipper does lack breadth of vision so that's what you're going to get. And while one must tolerate bias from others who like the champs dethroned, I think the RTE commentators got worse at the end when they felt it slipping away from Tyrone as we took grip at the death. Someone needs to have a word as it is a poor reflection on the game when our shop window is tainted. They made a sow of themselves with the penalty that was given for what they said was a 'stumble' and that they got right. I really wonder about you, the ultimate in Green and Gold tinted glasses. Whatever about the pens, definitely a black for Marc.

And Whelan scared that Kerry is also now in the Dubs way, ah I can understand that but he was blatant about is so weak. Ah Carney and Canning are pathetic, there should be a Kerry commentator to balance it.
O'Rourke misjudged the 2nd penalty too when it is now clear the Tyrone bucko had hold of our man's hand and Deegan close by spotted it, look at it on RTE player. Do you not think Kerry have enough cheerleaders in the media: O'Keeffe DOS TOS Quirke Liston Billy Keane Billy fecking Sheehan Thats off the top of my head!

Remember his bright coloured gloves got him in trouble in the Battle of Omagh. And one of his last acts as an inter county footballer was to fire an elbow into the nose of a Kerry man in the 2nd half of the 2009 quarter final. Ref felt sorry for him and just hopped the ball if I remember rightly.

It is funny how biased different people can be. Watching the match Sunday myself and the person beside me felt the ref didn't give us a thing in the first half! I agree with all the comments on the cards but referees are going to make mistakes. The second penalty shout... all I can think of is the boy who cried wolf. I agree.
During the first half we were blown for a foul nearly every time we got around a Tyrone player but at the other end when it happened we were blown for over carrying.

Not commenting on penalty 2 til I see it back. Need to see penalty 1 again too - but the brief Sunday Game highlight view, I couldn't see the contact. In 08 - the Tyrone goal straight after the break from a good move was still lucky, with Reidy falling over. Big Packie made a great save from big Tommy in first half and most critically from Dec Sull in last 5 mins which would have put us back in front. We finished out the game really well on Sunday after Tyrone levelling and the momentum from same.

I would agree on the glasses assessment too, I think they do have too true a green/gold hue. Your post above is completely one sided. The game wasn't one-sided. There was no gulf in class in my eyes. It was a great game, I thought we deserved to win, no more. It took 2 sides to produce that great game and Tyrone brought many fine contributions to it. What I was thrilled with, was the real guts and character Kerry displayed. It took real guts to dig out that result from 62 mins home when there was an awful lot on the line. No price can be put on that.

How about commenting on Kerry scoring 18 points against this famous blanket defence? What about Brolly and his laws of physics then? What about scoring 4 points in last 10 mins? How about keeping Tyrone scoreless on that time? Any comment on the composure and intelligence Kerry showed after the equalising point? What about Donnacha's foot passing which was a joy to behold as one M Carney would say. I I am beginning to think Ryle Nugent and RTE don't really care what quality the analysts give...they are happy when they talk more and more tripe so it will get people talking. Anthony Tohill was excellent a few years ago, Dara O Cinneide likewise. I give up.

No matter what comes out his mouth, people want to hear it, like it or not. RTE is a business at the end of the day(Roy Keane hhaahahha - Mario Rosenstock). The publicity gathers interest and viewing figures rise, which is the bottom line. In fairness if a less visible employee of RTE made the Marty Morrissey comment. Gone.

I dont want to hear brolly any more, despite playing on being controversial, I cannot tune in to his drivel any longer, his ultra negative analysis and personal attacks on people both on and off the pitch. There is an alternative there now, and I am glad to say it is a good one. It might not be as traditional in style, but it is very objective, and not partisan in any way. I also think that the sunday game evening panel is excellent, and it is a pity that they are not on the program during the live broadcast. Early, Oshea, Wheelan etc are great ambassadors for the game. Even McStay is pretty good, he might be a bit negative and bitter sometimes, but he does know the game and that is the difference.
I am still at a loss to understand the criticism of deegan on sunday. He did a very good job, he did get a couple of border line calls right and some wrong but nothing that would win or lose the game. I would say on this performance, he could get the nod for the final. We will see, but all in all, tyrone can have no complaints after this game. They gave it their best shot, and they were not good enough, by a bigger margin than the score line suggests too.
Kerry are not riding their luck on refereeing decisions, but they are on teams not taking chances. Tyrone should have scored a goal extra on sunday. Perhaps a second one, but that would be a stretch. I think that if either dublin or mayo turn up and are in form on final day, and are accurate in front of goals, then kerry will have to nail every chance the get in order to win the game. I am sure EF is thinking about this, he needs Moran to last at least 50 of the 70 minutes, and to play well. He also has a dilema whether to start Donachy or spring him from the bench. Both have worked in the last 2 years, but I thought his performance in the first half was very static, not entirely his fault but not entirely not his fault at the same time. One thing is for sure, it will be an interesting final. Hopefully it will be a hum dinger.

It was against Crawford and the ball wasn't even thrown in! If it was mcdermott I doubt Whelan would have seen the final whistle! ? He got away with a few sneaky punches v Mayo & Westmeath but infairness he is not the worst of them on TSG. Don't have much to add about the game that has not been said already but it was just very pleasing to beat Tyrone in Croke Park. The one point I'd take issue with is I found it amazing how TSG glossed over that cowardly tackle on Gooch.

Brolly, in fairness, said it was a black for the handtrip and a red for the high 'tackle'. And yes, it was ignored in the evening show. There is a kind of hysterical tone that has characterised the reaction to some refereeing decisions this year, both involving Kerry. The reaction has been over the top by any measure.

When I saw McStay with McGuigan on Sunday night, I thought: here we go, we're going to get fingered for a suspension or 2 here. Surprisingly, McStay wasn't on our case like he usually is.
Quite apart from the rubbish he comes out with, Brolly's arrogance and ignorance towards his fellow panelists grows by the week. Continually interrupting and shouting over the others. Then there's the hand thing, which is used in an attempt to shush everyone else. One of these days, someone's going to f*ck him out the plate glass window into the crowd. There'll some cheer from the fans outside when that happens.

Deegan seemed to take an awful long time to card Marc; thought he had gotten away with it. Thought he was a bit unlucky too. No way the slip and grab caused the Tyrone player to fall down; he could easily have rode that one and he was away free. Instead he went down and immediately looked to the linesman to get Marc the black.

Kerry won that game fair & square which rankles with some posters, we closed out the game in style. If it was Tyrone closing out the game it would have been the same as they did with Monaghan. We got careless when 5 points up with our passing but showed our class to come back and get the win. Brolly can't accept that an ulster team were beaten by us and in style so he goes off on one like he did last sunday. Oisan McConville would be a better choice as he doesn't seem to carry that usual chip on the shoulder and is reasoned in his views. Brolly can barely conceal that seething anger & hatred that comes with that chip on the shoulder syndrome.

Dermot you are a credit the way you and your people have accepted defeat. Just goes to show how the furore over young McCann was OTT by the media. Brolly could not give his own county lads a bit of praise. 11 of these Derry minors are 17 years of age and because Kerry won the little man describes a minor game as 'bloodless'. Not an appropriate way to describe an under age or indeed any game. BTW he extolled the Galway Tipp game as manly and sporting- and it was for the most part. In the interest of balance and possibly player safety might not RTE mention the tackle on Seamie Callinan which was the worst in the 2 semi-finals so far and leaves Sean Kavanagh's tackle in the shade as regards cynicism and danger to a player. End of rant about Brolly who is IMO taking up too much time even mine lol.

Wouldnt mind I'm reading a book at the moment by a fella called Steve Peters called The Chimp Paradox. All about how as a human you have control over your emotions and not to let your inner chimp take over. Jaysus as I was typing my posts today I did wonder if it was me or the chimp?

To those who challenge my assessment of the apparent fouls, take another look at the video. The Tyrone man in the '2nd penalty' had caught our fellas hand and luckily Deegan was on the right side to see it. Admittedly it was less obvious although it is a hard foul to detect hence the punishment.
Yes, Mark could have desisted midstream, and if in not doing that it was Black by the rule book then black it should be.
Are all The Dubs on here after me because everyone who answered my question on who would we like to beat in the final said 'The Dubs'? Or are yez all like Ciaran Whelan, running scared already? Maybe we won't beat yew, maybe we won't get the cnahce, although methinks we may! My 5 in a row bet is getting better by the day!

It's like those magic picture thingys that were popular 20 odd years ago....I'm looking at it but I can't see what you see.... Well Dermot, what is the feeling in Tyrone about the season? As some have said here it reminds me of our 2013 semi with Dublin, yes we are beaten on the day ( and had a poor league) but there was a feeling of positivity in spite of this for me anyway. It depends on how the squad react - will they be hahappy with a moral kind of victory or will they kick on. I'd imagine they will kick on. Get some more young blood and be the strongest Ulster challenger in the next few years. Room for optimism there I think.

Tyrone need to get new forwards, a new keeper, and a few more younger lads to cover the older tyrone legs. In other words, they need a period of transition, about 3 years. So next year could be very difficult for them, and us to for that mater. I think that the main challengers next year could well be galway. They have pedigree, and were not far away in croke park against us.

Kerry's greatest achievement in the game was our grand total of 18 points. I felt we were worth every one of them. We showed the same patience as we did against Donegal in last year's decider but were much more clinical this time round.
It must be said that Kerry didn't have much time to put a game strategy in place for last year's final. A system alien to them. Now it seems like we have tweaked it further and gotten better at it. I was delighted to see where the points were scored from as highlighted by Kevin Mc Stay on the Sunday Game. All kicked well inside the 45 apart from O Donoghue's placed balls.
Our passage up the Hogan Stand last year collecting old Sam would have been a much easier one had we been more clinical when shooting against Donegal so from that aspect we certainly have taken this set up a step further our latest display.
Fair enough we were left wide open at times but a number of these turnovers and counter attacks came from losing possession through our own mistakes ably assisted by the conditions. Fitzy and Co must be delighted. Our ice cool composure when the game was in the pot was terrific.

We did kick a lot of wides in last years AI and feared we would do the same against Tyrone last sunday. We created a lot of chances despite the Tyrone wall and as James o Donoughue said it is draining mentally as you have to do a lot more thinking in how to create in that system rather than free-flowing football. As in last years AI Final Johnny Buckley was adept in this area.
