Very disappointed that I chose to travel for this game instead of the Donegal game but can't complain about the result. At least I won't have to travel as far for next week's relegation playoff!

A depressingly inept performance from kerry today. I walked away from today's game wondering where to from here? Our play was so one dimensional it was very easy to defend against. We offered nothing creative in the forward line. Run down blind alleys, push the ball out and then a high hit and hope ball in. As the game wore on, we persisted even more with the high ball into anybody.
Monaghan were excellent today, at times. They broke very quickly from defence and had purpose in their attacks. Kerry, on the other hand were slow and ponderous in everything they did. there was a distinct lack of energy and fluidity to our movement, which is a bit worrying. We didn't deserve anything out of the game, simple as that. We struggled in almost every sector. Killian Young and Johnsthan Lyne were superb and carried the fight to Monaghan throughout, however, we were seriously lacking in drive and ambition elsewhere.
I think Donaghy should be dropped for the Tyrone game. The reasoning behind this is simple. If he doesn't start then maybe we will be less predictable and a little more creative in his absence. On several occasions today, it was clear that Donaghy was surrounded by a ball of blue and white. However, it did not prevent our outside men from lampung the ball into the Monaghan square. This is a cop out, in my opinion. It's easy to blame Donaghy for underperforming, when in reality, he had only a 20pc chance of gaining possession from the ball driven aimlessly towards him.
This hasn't been working. We need a different plan which includes moving the ball at pace instead of at leisure. Going to Omagh to have to save our skins, yet again, isn't too appetising. Today was a huge opportunity lost. Pity.

Terrible Performance today . It is so predictable when Kerry go behind big high balls into Donaghy . What a joke . Overall it has been a poor league for Kerry . We really found no new players . I don't think Pa Kilkenny and Mark Griffin are good enough to start in the Championship so if Marc O'Se and Aidan O'Mahony are fit i think they will start again . John Lyne had a good league . I think he could start with Paul Murphy in the Corner and Crowley and Killian making the rest of the Half Back line . Maher and Moran will start and we badly need Sheehan . Our free taking was a complete joke . I can't believe some of these County players can't kick a Free . It's incredible . We badly need O'Donoghue and Cooper back . We need more than high balls into Donaghy in the Championship we will get hammered . Tough game next week in Tyrone . We could go down and they way we played in this league we probably should .

What about Monaghan v Kerry in the Championship semi final? Rory Gallagher has clicked in Donegal but Monaghan are classy, and tough and always were.

Steady on, not everything has gone to plan but to say we should be relegated is a bit much. A certain Tyrone side have only won a single game.

Few points on yesterday's disaster:
Kelly's kickouts were poor in the second half against the wind. He seemed to chip them out rather than drive them out. Other than that I thought he did well and took the short option when it was on.
I don't think Pa Kilkenny has done enough in this League to be considered a serious option for starting in the Championship.
Was pleased with Enright yesterday, he had a tough task but did as well as he could. McManus is a classs act.
Killian Young is now a leader on this team.
David Moran was stuck to the ground. Anthony tried to hold things together as best he could.
When Buckley is good he's very good, but when he's off it he's really off it. He didn't track runs, didn't contribute anything really, should've been removed earlier.
Donnchadh Walsh is a huge loss to that half-forward line and seems to be a forgotten man around these parts with all the talk of Sheehan, Cooper and O'Donoghue missing.
BJ Keane is a good footballer but lacks awareness of what's going on around him at Inter-County level. The missed goal chance being an example. He had all day to pick it up, pick his spot, round the keeper, whatever, but instead pulled on it badly. He tends to snatch at alot of chances he gets from play.
Supply to Donaghy was poor and yes at times there were 2 or 3 men around him, but at times he makes it far too easy for the opposition defence. He needs to move too now and again, also shouldn't be immune to being substituted.
Geaney was doing well and was a loss. Hope the injury isn't serious.
Silly tackle by Fitzgerald. Lack of options from the bench was scary yesterday. Lads on the line were poor.

Wasn't able to travel to the game but the reports make depressing reading.
I agree that we need an alternative to the high ball into KD, I'd like to think that management are aware of this also. Who would lead and implement that strategy though next Sunday?
If you take Kieran out of the equation, even temporarily, where are our match fit leaders in the forward line?
I agree with nacrocaigh, the frees/45 situation without Bryan Sheehan is beyond a joke.
Did Tommy Walsh not do well for his Club last weekend in the Co.League? you would think that some of that form might have carried on to yesterday but clearly not.
Losing 2 home games as All Ireland Champions isn't a great achievement. You can be sure that Tyrone's poor record in the League will count for nothing next week. They will be a 100% different proposition on this occasion.

Kerry left beaten and bothered
Monday, March 30, 2015
By Edward Newman, Austin Stack Park
Allianz FL Division 1 Kerry 0-10 Monaghan 1-11 KERRY’S ambition to reach the knock-out stages of the 2015 Allianz Football League campaign was thwarted by an impressive Monaghan side that catapulted itself into the reckoning to possibly become Division One champions.
The greater athleticism of the Farney men allied to an energetic second half performance were the defining factors in Monaghan’s first win over the Kingdom in either league or championship in 27 years, and leave the Kingdom staring down the barrel of possible relegation should results go against them next weekend.
Trailing by three points at the break after playing into a stiff breeze, Monaghan produced a magnificent second half — thanks in the main to the marksmanship of Conor McManus — to run out deserving four-point winners in front of their large travelling support.
In recent times Kerry-Monaghan matches have tended to be closely-fought affairs with a high degree of excitement, and yesterday’s latest instalment proved no exception.
The match-up between McManus and Shane Enright, for instance, was one of the game’s highlights — Enright’s clean-edged defending one of the few positives to be eked from a Kerry display that their manager, Eamon Fitzmaurice, described as “lacking energy”.
Despite Enright’s close-marking, the Monaghan attacker gave an exhibition of forward play, finishing the game on six points — but he wasn’t the only Farney man to sparkle in the Kerry capital.
Owen Duffy and Darren Hughes impressed while, in defence, the Wylie brothers — Drew and Ryan — along with Vinny Corey gave polished performances.
Clearly Monaghan manager Malachy O’Rourke had done his homework on Kerry totem, Kieran Donaghy, detailing the capable Corey on the Kerry captain who finished the game scoreless. Why Donaghy — who was having an off-day — was kept on the edge of the square or, for that matter, left on the field were two questions on the lips of the Kerry faithful afterwards, many of whom were heading to the exits long before the full-time whistle. Better days, however, lie in store for the big target man from Tralee.
Donaghy also struggled to bring other players into the game — though for the game’s opening 17 minutes Paul Geaney and Barry John Keane proved tormentors-in-chief for an overworked Monaghan fullback line, the supply of ball from outfield being accurate and regular, and the two attackers profited.
Geaney departed the game in the 33rd minute with a hamstring injury, but his replacement, Tommy Walsh, struggled thereafter to make an impact on proceedings, while, only fleetingly, was the 6,133 attendance given glimpses of the “Twin Towers” working in tandem.
How Kerry could do with having some of their star names back in harness ahead of Sunday’s trip to Omagh to face their nemesis, Tyrone. Marc Ó Sé did make his seasonal debut late in the game, but how the All-Ireland champions are missing the likes James O’Donoghue, Colm Cooper, et al.
Fitzmaurice admitted that Paul Galvin — still to feature after announcing his inter-county comeback earlier this spring — and Cooper are unlikely to feature against Mickey Harte’s charges though Jack Sherwood may be reinstated.
The Kerry manager admitted he was very disappointed with the performance, one that saw the Kingdom shoot 14 wides.
Three arrived in the opening five minutes as Kerry bossed possession, playing with the elements into the scoreboard end. By the 11th minute Geaney had shot Kerry 0-2 to 0-0 ahead, his second coming following a sweet Alan Fitzgerald kick pass — this skill being a hugely positive feature of the Kingdom game under Fitzmaurice.
Kerry’s defending in the opening 17 minutes was impressive — clean and without conceding frees — while, up front, the points began to accumulate through Stephen O’Brien, Barry John Keane and Geaney.
However, the remainder of the half belonged to Monaghan, who, in the 19th minute, shot their first point on target through a beautiful left-footed effort from McManus, the latter following this up with a 20th-minute free.
Geaney did get one back for Kerry before Rory Beggan induced applause from both sets of supporters in the 24th minute when kicking a free from 55m into the wind. Then the hardworking Darren Hughes stepped forward to make it 0-6 to 0-4.
Alan Fitzgerald was black-carded for a deliberate body check in the 32nd minute, his replacement Darran O’Sullivan putting in a hard-working performance. Before the break Jonathan Lyne kicked a beauty off the inside of his boot to give Kerry the cushion though not necessarily the comfort of a 0-7 to 0-4 lead.
Monaghan restarted in flying fashion — three points inside the opening five minutes setting the tone for a breathless second-half performance. Darren Hughes was magnificent in midfield while up front Duffy, Malone and McManus were making Kerry sweat.
The Kingdom registered just two points in the second half, from O’Brien in the 40th minute and a Moran free in the 66th, and couldn’t match the fitness levels, energy, commitment and hunger of the Monaghan men.
Owen Duffy’s 48th minute goal arrived at a time when Monaghan were gaining the upper hand in the all the game’s key battles, and the build-up play was eye-catching, too, with Fintan Kelly and Darren Hughes combining to set up Duffy who palmed to the net.
Scorers for Kerry: P Geaney (0-4, 3 frees); BJ Keane (free), S O’Brien (0-2 each); D Moran (0-1, free)
Scorers for Monaghan: C McManus (0-6, 2 frees); O Duffy (1-1); D Hughes, P Finlay, R Beggan (free) and D Malone (0-1 each).
Subs for Kerry: Darran O’Sullivan for Fitzgerald (black card, 32); T Walsh for Geaney (inj 34); P O’Donoghue for O’Brien (48); F Fitzgerald for Buckley (58); M Ó Sé for Kilkenny (61); T Hickey for Moran (66)
Subs for Monaghan: D McKenna for O Duffy (66); T Kerr for Malone (72)
Referee: M Duffy (Sligo)

Lads, I think there's a few of ye getting carried away with yesterdays performance - yes it was poor but Monaghan were probably at full strength where as we have a lot of guys to come back in. What we missed yesterday was scorers & unfortunately the subs we brought on including Tommy Walsh & Darren didn't do what they were brought on to do ie score. When I was a young fellow a man said to me, dont worry about playing bad in the first half as they only remember the second & sometimes when I read this forum after a game I wonder if some people missed the first half or were late coming in to the game. For anyone that wasn't at the game, Kerry only used the long ball into KD in the second half, which was a disaster as the wind held the ball up & the Monaghan backs had a field day - in the first half Kerry were shooting wides left & right with little or no proper ball going it to KD. For anyone that was there, remember all the balls that were kicked into the corners to both BJK & Paul Geaney plus Peter Crowley kicked two straight down the middle into Monaghan defenders hands. I cant understand why Peter Crowley was left standing on our 45 for the whole first half when we had a gale behind us & his man was a free 7th defender on the other side which gave them options coming out with the ball. Shane Enright did well on McManus for 50 mins & in fairness to him he couldn't do a lot more for some of the scores as he was getting quality ball into him & McManus is a high quality player - he had 2 if not 3 great blocks on him too. Tommy Walsh is so far off the pace its frightening, he's like some fellow that played rugby or basketball all his life & decided to take up GAA at a late stage, whats even more frightening is that he scored 1-6 last week against a team that won away from home this week in Div 1 of the county league? Darren has lost that bit of pace, which is to be expected after injury but I'd expect him to be flying in a few weeks & instead of bringing on Paul O Donoghue, who was blocked down again kicking the ball, as he was against Donegal, I though they should have brought on Thomas Hickey earlier. Kerry lacked scoring forwards & a free taker yesterday & if we scored half of what we missed we could have won the game - not that we would have deserved to. BJK flatters to deceive & is probably better coming off the bench, Alan Fitzgerald might be the same but 25 mins yesterday is hard to judge, Paul geaney looks like he'll be out for a bit, how they left him on for another few mins yesterday when it was clear he pulled his hamstring is mind boggling. We could do with a grafter like Donnacha or a young PG but yesterday highlighted more than any the need for James O Donoghue, Gooch & Bryan Sheehan to be back in the Kerry forward line asap.

Pretty shambolic, win or lose against Tyrone there is a lot of things that need plenty work on. Defensively we are far too loose. Would have to agree with a previous poster on the reservations on Griffin. Not convinced at all!
The forwards today, well 10+ wides in the first half said it all. I dont think any of the lads on the sideline will be worrying about the security of their places.
Very, Very disappointing. The lack of cohesion and fight in the second half was worrying.

It has been said many times before but if you are going to drop high ball down on Kieran , you need others close to him to pick up the breaks or a pass. Yesterday, was another example of that simple requirement being ignored. There were positives from the game though...Jonathan Lyne having what I thought was his best ever game for Kerry..so far! Shane Enright also having what must come close to his best. Don't agree with the criticisms of Mark Griffin..thought he did ok without being outstanding. The forwards left us down big time. Unfortuntely, Alan Fitzgerald got a black card and contrary to what others have said, I thought he was doing ok and certainly deserved to start ahead of Tommy and Darren. Paul Geaney was a big loss. The Tyrone game is always never less than interesting and so it will be again. Looking forward to the trip! Subject to injuries etc, I'd go with the following starting team...
B.Kelly P.Kilkenny M.Griffin S.Enright J.Lyne T.Walsh P.Crowley A.Maher D.Moran S.O'Brien B.Sheehan J.Buckley P.Geaney K.Donaghy B.J.Keane

Well done to Monaghan yesterday, they were a well drilled team with some really good displays coming from the 2 Wylies, the 2 Hughes', Dessie Mone, Demrmot Malone and Conor McManus. They were also smarter on the line.
When Kerry have been good in the league they have been very good (Donegal and Dublin) but when they have been bad they have been awful (Cork and Monaghan).
It was very difficult conditions yes, but we never got to grips with the game. Some of the fringe players do not look like Kerry players at the moment unfortunately. Maybe the experience will stand to them but I dont know.
Massive game now next week. No excuses if we are beaten and relegated.

We were so predictable yesterday it made it easy for Monaghan to defend against us. They also wished up to our midfield and flooded the zone with players. Lots of ball broken off Maher and Moran yesterday and hoovered up by Monaghan players who worked their socks off to gain possession. Why did we keep resorting to high ball on top of Star when it was very evident that Monaghan had their homework done? Our handling and passing was very sloppy and it was clear that several players were struggling badly in the 2nd half. They have either put in a very heavy week of training or they are very tired. There was very little energy out there, Young and Lyne excepted. We will have to come up with a different approach next week. If we go to Omagh expecting that the same again will do we will be in division 2 next year, not a pleasant thought.

Not all Kerry's wides were shots - many were passes carried away with the wind.

Not all Kerry's wides were shots - many were passes carried away with the wind. I dont see Alan fitzgerald (number 11) on the KY first half stats either - he kicked a ball wide from over on the terrace side after about 10 mins or was that classed as a pass? Hard to know, but if it was a pass it was about 20 feet over KD head?
