No nonsense Shannonsider - just my assessment of this Cork squad. The fact that 5 have played senior is meaningless - none of them will be c'ship starters. In this context Maguire isa massive loss. There is little on the Cork bench to come on and change things. The general view in Cork is that this is a very average team and are not expected to win. Given the massive effort Kerry have put in to this U21 team it would be a shock if they don't win - don't know why you think it would be a great one to win as Kerry are clearly the better squad. Yerra ya! Brian O'Driscoll started the Sligo and Mayo games last year and will start this year again I would expect will start in Killarney in July. Vaughan came on in the championship last year against Tipp. Kevin Crowley has started in National league games already and is widely tipped to be a championship starter. Micheál Martin started in goals last Sunday in Tyrone and is nailed on sub-keeper, if not no.1. 8 of this Cork squad played in Tralee last year when Cork won convincingly aswell. Try convincing yourself Kerry are "clearly the better squad" if you must, but it plainly is not the case.

Its somewhat rude and not a little arrogant to describe a poster's genuinely held viewpoint as "Utter Tosh" and "Absolute nonsense".

Shannonsider I am offering a neutral view as someone who lives in Cork and knows a bit about this Cork side. I am also familiar with Kerry's progress and development. Just a genuine assessment of both squads and I could be wrong but there is no Yerra involved!!!

Fair enough if that's your honest opinion, but living in Cork and knowing plenty about this Cork squad myself I disagree strongly with your sentiment that Kerry should win by at least 6.

Do you still think Donaghy is a waste of space?

Cork are favourites for this and comfortably so, home advantage being a key factor.
Anybody suggesting otherwise is a misguided fool.

Cork are rightly favourites even given the absence of Maguire but I think this kerry team are more than able to put it up to them if we get the right ball into our inside forward line they can do damage. cork must have a good forward line themselves if Michael hurley last year's minor isn't on

Do you still think Donaghy is a waste of space? Now, now..don't start making up facts to suit your argument. I, like a lot of people, was annoyed with the "Donaghy as a half forward" experiment, which thankfully was dispensed with fairly quickly after losing the 2012 game in Cork. At NO STAGE did I call him a waste of space or anything of the sort. You DID however, suggest that we should play Micheál Quirke fullback. At least tell me you realise how crazy that sounds at this remove?

Paddy Power has both teams even money with 7/1 for a draw. For the AI Kerry are 9/1 with Cork at 11/1.

I have to agree with Shannonsider on this one . I think Kerry have a great chance of winning especially with Maguire missing but this is no bad Cork team . Miceal Martin is a solid Keeper he could end up starting for the Seniors this year . Jamie Davis , Stephen Cronin and Kevin Crowley are good prospects and would be close to the Senior panel . O'Driscoll , Davis and Vaughan are talented forwards . Kiely , Horgan and Hurley are good subs on the Bench . I would say it will be close and it could go either way . Kerry could shade it but I would not be surprised if they ended up level at the end .

The team must be stronger this year if starters from last year and not making the first 15 this year? There is real quality in last years minor team.

The last two minors teams have been really good and hopefully they can continue their progress and at least get out of Munster. Best of luck to all involved, especially Darragh who doesnt deserve to have his reputation as a player sullied by a record of P 3 L 3 as a manager over 3 years.

Shur what need is there of reports from amateurs like me when pros like Weeshie will be giving a blow by blow account?! Darragh's playing career won't be sullied at all in fairness no matter what happens, but I'm afraid I can see him being added to the very long list of great players in various sports who couldn't cut it in management.

Looking back three years - only 5 of the 15 Kerry minors that started the 2012 Munster Final start tonight. Another two are on the bench. 8 of the Cork minors that lost the 2012 Minor SF to Tipp start tonight with one more on the bench. Interestingly the star man Maguire came on as a sub on the minor team 3 years ago. Cork's record since 2000 at U21 is impressive with an 82% (P35, W29) win rate compared to Kerry's 50% (P30, W15). Goes to reinforce the conundrum of underage success and senior success not always following.

Good luck to the U21s tonight. I'm travelling down expecting a good performance and hopefully a win. The weather should mean a good crowd and atmosphere there.

Very disappointing. Whats another year as the man used to sing.
At least we have still time to try and make something of the 14 minors.

Very unlucky with the black card to Savage and I think that we might have sneaked a draw or even a small win with him on. Did well to battle back from a terrible start where we looked all at sea in midfield and half back line.
Conor keane was very impressive- well done to Cork and good luck in the final.
There is a decent chance of an all ireland in next years team so let's hope they can persuade jack o Connor to take them on.

disappointing to say the least.
Last years minor and senior success were great but our record at this level isn't good enough and we cant hide behind last years success at other levels
I d let Jack have a cut off the 21s next year.

You can't start 6 minors on a county u-21 team and expect to win. If it happened at club level there would be serious questions; never mind a county with our pick. A championship record of played 3 lost 3 is not good reading for Darragh and co. Managers need to learn from mistakes, doing it at county level is tough and unfair on the manager. Darragh needs to take Gealtach, a school side, ITT someone to build up some experience before giving it another lash. We need to get this grade right next a munster win is a must. Have Cork ever done 5 in a row at any level before?
