Shane Ryan out injured until march Heard that there are serious doubts about his ability to play out-field with the nature of the injury he has. Shame for the lad.

Cavan beat Meath 1-15 to 0-5 in the other match in the group.
Kerry play Cavan next week and Meath the week after.
Anyone know if it's 1 or 2 to qualify for the next stage or what the sceal is after the group stages?

Was there anybody missing off that squad today or is that our full squad apart from Shane Ryan?
Good to see about 8 of the minor winning side involved, need to keep them playing football at the top level as much as possible.

Heard there's 35 or 40 training & they'll be picking guys on form, injuries & availability for the moment.I'd expect a few changes for next week so they can get a look at guys before the college scene kicks off again, can't see stacks letting the two boys play for too long more either as the semi final is only weeks away.I know it's the first outing but a draw with Roscommon wouldn't be exactly what they were looking for either.Cavan next week should be another tough task.

We were far superior. Cavan held the ball for the opening 20 mins and went sideways, backwards, everywhere but forward. After that then we settled and kicked on and we were impressive. Burns and Savage were very good and linked up like they've played together their whole lives. Cliian Fitz was very impressive also won the penalty and was very unlucky not to score another goal.
The backs were decent but not up against much to be honest. Midfield were also solid, getting through alot of work and Jack Barry intercepted an awful lot of ball. Matthew Flaherty played a sweeper role and was outstanding. He has some engine, intercepted ball, used it well and drove up the field.
Good performance overall against a poor enough Cavan side.

Great win, Meath must be brutal, should be 15 points better than them

Great win, Meath must be brutal, should be 15 points better than them Hard to judge teams as mangers still trying out players. Ros had 10 changes from the Kerry game and we're still without 3 of the best players from last year Harney, Corcoran and Enda Smith. By all accounts Meath were without their best players today and hard to know what sort of team they will field next week. The competition is really about c'ship preparation and I would not read anything into results.

From the main site.. Hastings Cup Round 2 Kerry 1-17 Cavan 0-8 Kerry secured two points in this must win Hastings Cup game against Cavan at Emo Co. Laois today thanks to an impressive second half display that saw them pull away from the Northern outfit. Scores were even during the opening quarter after which Kerry had a slender one point lead (4 to 3) and two points from impressive full forward Cillian Fitzgerald helped them into a 7 points to 4 lead by the 26th minute. Fitzgerald was then hauled down in the area and though Cavan keeper Mark Fegan saved Jack Savage’s penalty attempt, the Kerins O’Rahillys man finished the rebound to the net and Kerry went on to lead by 1-8 to 0-5 at the break. Both sides added two points apiece in the opening six minutes of the second half but with Matthew Flaherty sweeping to good effect at the back, and Micheál Burns, Jack Savage and Fitzgerald in top form up front, Kerry started tacking on the points from the likes of Dara Roche, Greg Horan, Savage and Flaherty to run out deserving winners by a 12 points margin. Jack Savage, with 1-6 to his credit, top-scored for Kerry, while Micheál Burns and Cillian Fitzgerald chipped in with 3 points each. Kerry play Meath in the final game of the Group on Saturday next in Dr Morris Park in Thurles at 2pm.The semi finals, and Plate semi finals of the competition are on January 24th with the final on January 31st. Jesus, the state of the nets. Could they not get anyone to put them up ? I know it's not the AI but that's embarrassing.
