Highlights of the drawn game were on Sky Sports again last night. I have to say that Dermot Earley is clueless at times too. He claimed Mayo supporters outnumbered Kerry by 5:1 which was totally false and that Donaghy's dispossession of Aidan O' Shea to set up O' Donoghue's chance to win at the end was a foul. You mean Paul? And if you do mean Paul Early then forget about "times", he's clueless from the first whistle to the last!! lol

Looking at other forums around the net, hogan stand etc, such hostility towards Kerry, and still a week later very angry Mayo Fans. I always liked Mayo but know with the comments before they played us and after Im turned off them! Ive been saying it for years, Mayo fans are amongest the most bitter around. They tend to get a free pass but the reality is they are a cocky, arrogant bunch who believe they are the greatest gift since sliced bread.

They have got a free pass, everybody feeling sorry for them after all the heart ache. The fact is if they were winning All Ireland's they would be much worse than the Dubs. At least the Dubs can back it up with recent All Irelands. Mayo are the worst losers I have ever come across. It's the remarks they were making weeks before we met them calling us Kerry craters in the Hogan stand forum. Laughing at the taught Kerry would even have a chance. The general taught was Mayo would win very handy. Then when they lost they lost it for good and glory. Now a week later they are still nasty with the statements they are coming out with. That lady editor of the west paper called us Kerry scumbags. I have lost much respect for fans I genuinely once respected. I always said after Kerry I would love to see Mayo claim an All Ireland. Not anymore I'm afraid and looking back at the years we rotavated them makes the memories a little sweeter now.

If McStay gets the Mayo job then I for one wont be shouting for them to win the all ireland. The thought of that smug, self satisfied, pompous puss telling us all how he ended the famine, replete with wedding planner clipboard, would be too much to bear.
Glad I got that bit of prejudice out of my system!

Agree with most of these sentiments- logged on to Mayo gaa blog today and some of the posts are so ridiculous - one has a history going back to the 1930s to date of all thei games they were supposedly robbed in! Have failed to recognise some of their obvious problems, namely cleaned out at midfield, no action from the line as Donaghy made hay, no support up front for Cillian O'Connor; also seemed to ignore that O'Connor had some poor efforts at goal over the course of both games most particularly in the first period of extra time with his two wides but this was probably down to his clash with Aidan O'Shea!! What I find most ironic though is the fact that Reilly was the man in the middle when they overcame Cork rather fortuitously when he denied Colm O'Neill a clear free for a foul from behind by Cafferkey and a possible black card to his blowing the full time whistle on the kick out after Cork had reduced the lead to a point! They could so easily have been ousted that day but Reilly played no small part in their victory.

That Tom Carr is the worst by far though, he really takes the honor for worst commentator/pundit of all time. In fairness McStay would be a step up from him.

For all that I dislike McStay, Carr is much worse. Also, I cannot really take David Brady or Colm Parkinson seriously.
I said in another post that Mayo need to get a grip for their own sakes. I know that a few supporters on forums may not be entirely representative of the county, but they are never going to win an All-Ireland by playing the victim.
They badly need to get the next managerial appointment right. Lets face it, the overall standard in the country is not great. Mayo have good players and won a Minor All-Ireland last year. The future for them should be bright.

Ya I agree the ref was very hard on Cork late on in that game, funny the Mayo fans have no problem wit dodgy decisions once they are going their way. Mayo acting very self righteous and like spoiled kids to be honest. And as somebody said if they don't take responsibility for their own errors that cost them games and stop blaming the other team and the ref and how they were robbed then they will never win an All Ireland.

I think the Mayo fans are getting an unfair rap around here. Any Mayo fans I met before, during or after both games were knowledgeable and gracious. That's how I judge supporters, not by what I read on forums as forums often bring out the worst facets.

Hi all, first time poster from Mayo here (yikes we are not liked around here are we;). Congrats on the win last week. Was a sore one to take from our point of view but that's life, we will give it a go again next year. Midfield was supposed to be our strong point and we were second best. Referee decisions aside which we can argue, Mayo were second best bar that second 30mins in the drawn game.
Yesterday our local paper had an interview with Andy Moran and he said the players have not mentioned the ref but know their own performance was not up the scratch and want to look to improve which is a good outlook to have.
Funny was speaking with a few friends around the kitchen table the day before the drawn game between us and there was a piece in the paper about David Moran, I thought there was very little talk about him and wondered if he would do damage to us...well my god he it.
Considering the retirements and loss of Cooper that Kerry are in the final, I wonder if ye beat Kerry will it be the sweetest of them all?
Hopefully see ye in Tralee or Killarney for the league in the Spring. Up Mayo!

I agree with Jo90, Mayo people love their football and are very passionate and loyal in the way they support their team. I spoke with very knowledgable football people before, during and after those two games. They were lovely honourable people in who's company I would have gladly stayed. I also met a good few Mayo supporters who were spitting venom after the first game, they were very insulting to a group of about eight Kerry supporters which compiled of two mothers and their teenage kids. Clearly these people are *s but I have seen my share of *s wearing the Green and Gold doing stupid disrespectful things in the past as well. In tight games we all go a little bonkers and like alcohol it brings out the best and worst qualities in people. Time to stop looking at the negative and focus on the positive, we are heading to hallowed on Sunday week, what an achievement for Eamon his back room team and our great players, time now to focus on bringing home the Canister

Here comes one of their finest. The constant encroachment by runners and mentors onto the field of play in GAA (all grades) is something I think is unhealthy. Difficult enough to manage 30 players but the number of others that get involved in melees should not be tolerated. Any encroachments should be dealt with severely and only players and medical staff (with the ref's permission) should be on the field of play. Water breaks should be at the side of the pitch.

While I agree the forums bring out the mad men (myself included) it went much further then just forums this time. Many fans were out right nasty and I speaking to Kerry people living in Mayo and Galway surrounded by Mayo fans they said things were nasty enough and alot of horrible things were said. I always said Mayo were sound out but on this occasion many did lose it, including Cróna Esler editor of the Western People newspaper in Mayo who said "Horrendous refereeing and scumbag play from Kerry. Only consolation is that they'll be beaten in the final" just one example of what was said about Kerry people. While I know its not nice to tarish all Mayo fans with the one brush, I have to say that many Mayo fans left themselves down after this match. That's my two cents on it anyway.

James Horan has finally joined in the fun, moaning about the venue. Claiming that Kerry play there regularly, which is rubbish. I saw somewhere that we had played one championship match there in 9 years. It's getting ridiculous now.

Link to the article in question www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/james-horan-hits-out-at-mayo-county-board-1.1929401No idea what he gains from this interview - but it reinforces my opinion that he's the sort that would start a row in an empty room. Can help thinking if he hadn't done so much in the way of falling our/alienating players Mayo could possibly have taken Sam home under his watch. Will be interesting to see if he ends up over another intercounty team down the road or where he goes from here.

Very undignified. The Limerick decision was the wrong call by the GAA, but it was clear they were not going to budge, and Horan needed to get on with it.

He has now come across as the type of fella that is easy to get under his skin.. This coupled with not shaking hands with the cork management after beating them.. I know Cork name dropped, but it is just becoming part of the 'gamesman' ship of the game.. I don't like it, but when you start making an issue of that kind of thing you are distracting players. He should have just saved it for the book! :-) If he really believes the location of where the game was played cost them the match then he is bordering on delusional, amazing he had no comment on the ref! Obviously he is getting a bit of stick for elements within Mayo about not having a plan for Donaghy.. Personally I think that is really what cost him the game.

Agree, whether Cafferkey is a fine full back or not, he wasn't having a good game either day and couldn't handle Donaghy on both days, so to say he's a fine full back, is just like saying there wasn't a problem. I think he set his team up to fail as opposed to thinking the Mayo local media were trying to do same, by leaving Cafferkey isolated with Donaghy well into the replay. I also thought he had a right cut off Conor Mortimer (bleached hair), which was unjustified. Mortimer was a good corner forward, although inconsistent and had big game questions to answer but could be prolific on his day also. It's a cheap shot really though, even though Conor and his family made a complete soap opera over his exit from the panel. He could have made the difference to them getting over the line last year, when they couldn't get enough scores from their forwards.

Horan is a pretty dislikeable character IMO. He did a good job as Mayo manager and definitely turned them into a serious outfit, but as a personality he comes across as ungracious whether in victory or defeat and as a hypocrite to boot with his "have you ever been on the end of a Michael Murphy tackle" the year before he refuses to shake Brian Cuthbert's hand.
His dig at Conor Mortimor is ridiculously classless and uncalled for.
I'm glad he never won the All Ireland tbh, as petty as that may be on my part.

I think many in Mayo wish they still had someone like Conor Mortimer. Yes, the O'Sheas bring very powerful running to their outfit but they still don't have a star forward. Cillian O'Connor is a good free taker but most of his scores come from frees. Look at the stats the lads at dontfoul have complied and it is a lll the more baffling. For a forward that hangs around near the goal end of the pitch so much he takes very few scores from play. Conor Mortimer and Ciaran MacDonald had good games and bad games but in my opinion Mayo could have done with their skills in the two Kerry games. As for Horan: the less said, the better.

But I'd agree that Mortimer would have been a good addition. The problem with Mortimer was that he was too flaky to be your number 1 forward, but alongside O Connor, Mortimer would have been a good 2nd option.

That is the point I was trying to make. O'Connor isn't bad, I didn't say that, but he is not the kind of forward that produces magic. Even a Jamie Clarke like forward would help Mayo tremendously or a Michael Meehan. O'Connor creates very few scores from play to be considered a marquee forward. Yet he is Mayo's main scoring threat. This Mayo team is arguably as good as it will ever get and they have all the elements to dominate the game except for the marquee forward. On paper there is no way that Kerry could have won against them, just look Dublin should have routed Donegal. The big difference though is the ability to change the game plan and/or to stick to a system that the players feel comfortable with and gets the best out of players. In retrospect, and hindsight is a marvellous gift, Dublin's undoing was their richness in players and different systems: they weren't tested and had no idea of what their best tactic should be. When they finally met a team that had trained to come up with the answers for Dublin's different options, they had no counter-answer. Dublin believed that their tactics were enough but did not anticipate what would happen if a counter strategy was found. Today's game is a bit like chess: a strategy and a counter strategy aren't enough, you have to think two, three, four steps ahead and anticipate the next moves.

Before the replay against Mayo in Limerick I would always have said that outside of Kerry, Mayo were the team I would most like to see win the All-Ireland. I no longer feel that way, living in Galway I've had my fill of them. A couple of points i'd like to make. (i) Did Kerry choose the ref or venue for the replay? (ii) If a Kerry fan invaded the pitch and made an ass of himself, would you be ashamed as a Kerry fan or make a hero out of him? (iii) Did anybody see the abuse some Mayo fans, in particular a young Blonde mayo girl gave Star after the game? (iv) Their fans complained about our foul tactics, anybody remember Aidan O'Sheas elbow on Galvin in 2011, repeated on james this year? Also remember when they beat the Dubs in 2012 I think, have a look at the second half if you want to see cynical dirty tactics. Sorry Mayo fans, I have many friends in mayo but I will never shout for your team again.
