Declan has also played all Dromid's games in SK League and Co. League this year so he will be a good bit further along the road than donaghy and young.

Maybe Murt might get a free transfer to the script writing team of Mrs Browns Boys after that side-splitting prank.
Cork attacking half back line could pose problems on Sunday. Last year they set up with 9 backs and two midfielders in the corresponding game making it horrible to watch. The team sheet for this game looks like they will go all out attack, hope the weather wont spoil it.

I don't see a place for Donaghy in the current team even though he is a very accomplished player. There are a number of players well ahead of him in the positions he could play. The game has evolved such that he would be too slow to be employed in full forward in my opinion unless he can get his basketball skills back into the game I.e. Turning on a sixpence, high fielding and holding on to any high ball lopped towards him and lightning quick decision making. All trades he hasn't shown in recent championships. He is a very accomplished player but maybe not what we are looking for. On the other hand I believe he might be part of a larger extended panel to use as a player with a certain X factor. Donaghy is a driven player and always gives 199% in each game popping up anywhere he is needed. This roaming also means though he is sometimes not in the place he should be, full forward. He also hasn't been known for his sure hands in recent campaigns often losing the ball. Most of the top teams will just swarm around him as soon as he comes back down to Mother Earth with the ball and stifle any threat Donaghy might have posed. Like Buckley and Sheehan he is a back up option for midfield though and imagine how an opposition player must feel after trying to contain Maher or Moran for 50 minutes and then a fit Sheehan, Buckley or Donaghy comes on.....it is certainly just as crushing as seeing MacMenamin come on for Dublin.
In the last few games we have used a lot of subs and I did not see us get significantly weaker. That is more important than we might think as all the top teams have the same. Cork and Dublin are light years ahead of us in this whereas we might be ahead of Mayo, Kildare and Tyrone in this and certainly ahead of Armagh and Donegal. We still have Declan and Killian to come back as well though meaning we are not too far behind. With the black card and the way the game is currently evolving fitness and having a very strong 30 men panel are key factors. We are behind some of the teams in fitness in my opinion and we certainly don't have the players Dublin or Cork have in reserve but we do have one of the most speedy and skilful teams in Ireland. Like Armagh and Derry we have a lot of classy players but maybe not the physicality or fitness the top teams have. Casey and Crowley add a lot of oomph to the team though as will Declan when he returns. Donaghy is also a player you can't push aside.
Colm O'Neill in my opinion is one of the most classy players in Ireland and like the Gooch he'd be one of the names first on the sheet. I would expect him to make an appearance on Sunday for sure. The same with Goulding, Kerrigan and Kevin O'Driscoll. That is a seriously strong quartet to bring on as subs as they would be sure starters and unmissable in most counties. Cork also have McLoughlin on the bench who has made a huge difference in Cork since his transfer. Cork seem to finish with a stronger team than they start with though Hayes, O'Driscoll and Hurley is a young and very energetic full forward line not unlike our own.
Kelly is not a natural centre back though probably one of the best centre forwards in the country. Our own centre back is also not a natural centre back though so Kelly might be very active around the middle third scooping up breaking ball and delivering very accurate ball to Cork's deadly full forward line. The Cork set up literally screams goals and they will certainly be anxious to know whether Kelly or Kealy will be minding the Kerry net. I hope it will be Kelly personally.
The areas where we have the edge on this Cork team are in midfield and the half back line so that might be why Kelly is named there. Loughrey and Jamie O'Sullivan though are top class players so it will be interesting to see if our forwards can win as much ball as they did in the last 3 games.
All in all I think Cork have a stronger team and panel but they have not been performing well in their last 2 games whereas we are beginning to gel and have a very good morale. I think we are still experimenting though and still making a lot of silly errors but they are using league games to try things straight from the training sessions and that is a good sign. If we win we could get into the semis. If we don't we'll still be division 1 and we can start preparing for the championship. I think all Kerry teams always like to beat Cork but if we don't no harm is done either.

Well the only way was up for Cork after Counihans reign ended dismally. His only discernible tactic was to try to get certain opponents sent off and he had one or two fooleens willing to engage in this tactic. So its a good day that Cork have a new man at the helm and they are playing attractive football and they have lots of good footballers. Its important for Kerry too that Cork are firing well. Kerry need Cork to be challenging. Cork will want to put down any signs of green shoots in the Kingdom and even though Cork are through they wont want to lose this one. Aiden Walsh is probably Corks leader on the field now so his loss may prove decisive. In my opinion Counihan had one of the best Cork teams ever at his display and did little with it. He was indeed targeting certain players and his naming of dummy teams did more harm then good. It's not good for a young lad reading in the papers he's not playing and the whole town asking him why not even if he knows that Counihan named a dummy team and he is playing. What does that do for the confidence? Cork should have gotten more than the one all Ireland out of that team and Counihan messed it up. Walsh is one of the best midfielders and one of the most natural leaders in the country and his exclusion will cost Cork dearly. It's hard to see who will be the leader in the starting team with some strong characters like Goulding and Kerrigan on the bench.

The 1989-90 team should have won at least one more. The 1973 team should certainly have won at least one more. So I certainly didn't expect the 2010 team to win more than one. It's too easy to blame the manager. It is an old argument that has been re-hashed loads of times when talking about Cork football.

He's good, extremely athletic and I wouldn't say no to him playing with Kerry, but lets not go overboard in praising him! I think you are misjudging him maybe or maybe I'm overpraising him indeed. I have seen him play in the Cork county championship a few times and with Cork several times and I think he is always doing well. Not saying the other Cork midfielders are bad but in my opinion he is the main midfielder in Cork at the moment and certainly in his current form. He is definitely playing a lot better this year. Moran and Maher have been doing well for Kerry this year whereas has Buckley hans't been as impressive as last year. Once Sheehan came back the whole team dynamic changed and even though I agree he sometimes looks a bit lazy or uninterested he brings a lot to the team and adds to the middle third. It is in that scenario that not having Walsh for Cork will be a huge miss to them. Kelly is obviously there to gather breaking ball and Hurley is one of those full forwards that roams around the field and might well pop in that middle third stealing ball and making a run for Kerry's goal. He does it often with Castlehaven and has a marvellous acceleration. If Cork can win the ball in midfield and tap it down to the other players in the middle third like Westmeath and Kildare did we will be in trouble as Cork does have the players and the accuracy to use that ball. I therefore hope to see a set up similar to the second half in Westmeath with a number of good ball winners for Kerry operating around that crowded midfield. In the first half Westmeath won almost every ball going to that midfield and if they didn't win it cleanly they'd tap it down to a number of players swooping around and living off that kind of ball. Luckily Westmeath did not have the stamina and the fitness to keep that up all game and they had no plan B once Kerry made the necessary switches, but Cork do have these advantages. On a side note though I think Cork are already firing at all cylinders and are very close to what we can expect from them in the championship whereas I think the other top teams are still looking to improve a lot of things. If we can beat this Cork team it probably means we should be able to do so in the championship as well. If we don't we know what to do.

The amount of room offered to Kyle Coney is unreal. Same the amount of space of Sean Cavanagh found himself in at times. Both had all the time in the world to look at the posts and perfect their aim. Cork are defending well though and I think they are very hard to score goals against even though Mayo had no problems with that. Cork seem to aim to push defenders out forcing them to take long range points whereas they themselves thrive on fast runs through the middle and via the wings. That Colm O'Neill goal and the Kerrigan goal were pure class and ultimately what kept Cork in the Tyrone game. Tyrone were forced to take points from far out and had no problem doing that so hopefully Kerry will do the same. Sheehan's accuracy might be key if Cork deploy a similar defence though the inclusion of Kelly in there might point at a different tactic and that is attacking from the halfback line and running at Kerry. Something we had no answer to in the first games of the league. Have we matured enough to know how to stop a team running at us?

The Cork Senior Football team to play Kerry in the Allianz League Division One on Sunday shows six changes from the side that drew against Tyrone last weekend. Ken O’Halloran returns in goal one slot ahead of David Hanrahan, and the injured Eoin Cadogan is replaced by Jamie O’Sullivan. Michael Shields moves to the full-back line, and Noel Galvin is also out through injury. In a new-look half back line, Damien Cahalane gets a first football start of the season, having featured for the Cork hurlers against Tipperary last Sunday, and Patrick Kelly takes up the centre-back position, with Tomás Clancy moving to the bench. Paul Kerrigan is replaced in the half-forward line by Colm O’Driscoll, and Barry O’Driscoll comes in at corner-forward ahead of Daniel Goulding. Cork SF v Kerry: K O’Halloran; M Shields (Capt), J O’Sullivan, Tom Clancy; J Loughrey, P Kelly, D Cahalane; F Goold, A O’Sullivan; C O’Driscoll, M Collins, J O’Rourke; B O’Driscoll, B Hurley, J Hayes. Subtitutes: D Hanrahan, A Cronin, J McLoughlin, K O’Driscoll, Tomás Clancy, R O’Sullivan, M O Laoire, D Goulding, P Kerrigan, D O’Connor, C O’Neill.

I think that Kerry have been relatively settled in the last 3 games and it showed with 3 wins - I think that they played faily well in Mayo too. IMO - Kerry's 1-9 next Sunday will be more or less their c/ship line up - with Kealy maybe coming in and Young probably dispacing someone (don't know who) But I don't think it will change the effectiveness much. Cork woudl still be very unsure of their best 1-9 - of Sunday's line up - I'd say that O Halloran, Shields and Clancy are sure to start v Kerry (maybe Loughrey too and maybe Goold) Cadogan and Aidan Walsh will come in. A few of the U21's might challenge and Sean Dineen (Castlehaven) has joined the panel and is rated as a very good MF'er. I think that Cuthbert is still open minded about a lot of positions. I see Kerry playing their 1st choice forwards except for Declan - Cork are not clear of their best 6 forwards. O Rourke and Hurley will play but the other 4 are far from certainties. Cork have experimented more and thus they are not a settled side yet - Kerry are settled and coming in with very good recent form - I'd expect a 4 point win for Kerry. I'd expect a 4 pt win for Cork in the Munster Final - mainly because it's in Cork.

I agree that Kerry's team won't change much between our team for Sunday and the championship team whereas Cork, as in the years before, are not fully sure about what their best team is. Yes, Cork can and do experiment a lot more but I also think they are already at the top of their game. Kerry asked huge questions from their young guns in the league and indeed in the championship last year and they are now stepping up and show definite improvement. Paul Murphy is rapidly emerging as a sure starter as are Fionn Fitzgerald, Peter Crowley, James O'Donoghue and a whole host of other young players that are competing with the best in Ireland and don't do all that badly. We lost by a small margin to Derry, Dublin and Mayo (though towards the end they were scoring at will and the final result was in their favour) and we have beaten Kildare, Westmeath and Tyrone without playing exceptionally well and with a fairly young team. Cork have outperformed us at minor and U21 level for a few years now but it has not provided them with any stars. Where Cork have 30 very good players, Kerry have a mix of a few real stars, some very good players, some good players and some players with huge potential. If we can get the good and the potentials to improve, and I think the signs are there that they will, we should be a better team come championship time. In Cork's case I can see a scenario where they found out who their best 15 are but apart from Colm O'Neill and Hurley and Walsh I see no real stars in that team yet. A team of a lot of very good players but not that many players with the x factor. There's a reason why Kerry have a conveyor belt of great players like Seamus Moynihan, Maurice Fitzgerald, Mikey Sheehy, the Gooch, Mick O'Connell and so on and so on whereas Cork have a list of a lot of very good players but few stars of that calibre.

Yeah - I think Kerry will be very pleased with the progress of the players you mentioned and in JOD - Kerry have unearthed yet another attacking gem. It might have bbeen expected that Cork would produce slightly better players due to underage supremecy but so far, that hasn't happened. Both sides have good management and it will be very interesting to see which will reclaim Sam first. Does anyone know for certain if the top 2 teams in the league have home advantage in the Semis ? That could have a big bearing on the Tralee and Castlebar games because without home advantage to play for - Cork and Derry won't have much incentive.

That could have a big bearing on the Tralee and Castlebar games because without home advantage to play for - Cork and Derry won't have much incentive. Wouldn't be sure about that. Last year Dublin and Tyrone came 1st and 2nd, but both semi finals were played as a double header in Croke Park. That was Dublin v Mayo and Tyrone v Kildare.

This year AFAIK, the top 2 will get home advantage in the Semi-Finals but I imagine if Dublin are able to scrape into second place it will be a double-header in Croker for the 3rd year running.

For selfish reasons I would hope that Cork get through and we get through and that we play them in Cork and not in Croke Park. If we draw Tyrone or Derry and they get home advantage I'm certainly not traveling. Croke Park would be a nuisance for me to get to that Sunday but doable. Just. But would probably still not travel. Playing Cork in Cork would be perfect for me

To attend your county's fixture this weekend you simply need to attend the venue and present your season ticket card at the designated turnstile(s).Please ensure that your card is scanned in order for your attendance to be recorded. (Attendance will not be amended at a later date) Please note that only one card per person will be scanned. I have a taker for an extra season ticket if you need someone to go in and have it scanned

Superaidan is there to save the day:
Aidan O’Mahony, a garda and a footballer for Kerry, had to use quick reflexes yesterday to catch a chair hurled through the air at Cork District Court.
Garda O’Mahony had to grab the flying chair in courtroom 1, where he was attending in the course of his duties keeping order in the courthouse.
Jason Landy, aged 25, was sitting on one of three chairs in the custodial section of the court.
Garda David Noonan gave evidence of arresting Landy, of no fixed address, and charging him with entering Blackrock Hall pharmacy at Eden, Skehard Rd, as a trespasser on April 1, with intent to steal.
Judge Leo Malone remanded the accused in custody to appear by video link from prison today.
Landy stood and shouted “* you” and words to that effect at nobody in particular, before grabbing one of the chairs and hurling it through the air.
The chair went flying down the side of the room close to where Garda O’Mahony was standing. He put his hands up, blocking it and then grabbing it.
With the assistance of other gardaí, Landy was escorted back to the holding cells.

Even Mayo can't mess this one up. I'd guess E FitzMaurice will be very disappointed that Derry are sending a 2nd string to Mayo. I suppose he'll say that Kerry have only themselves to blame by losing at home to Derry. This is bound to affect the Kerry mental state - they will know that the match v Cork is only relevant for bragging rights.

This match just won't be the same without Messrs.O'Leary and Galvin lighting up proceedings! Many people would have paid money just to see the pair of them over the years. Football is many things, great fielding, kick-passing, the Gooch, but the sight of two old acquaintances rekindling their friendship on the field takes some beating. Not that they weren't adverse either to reliving the match afterwards in the comfort of a nearby watering hole.
The league has turned into a more useful exercise this year and the young bucks have had plenty of challenges and belts which will stand to them. Our young defence is learning as a unit and although they have had their moments of uncertainty they will be ready for the championship. We may be without the Gooch but there is enough firepower up front to keep any defence honest. The Cork match will be a phoney war but it is still a chance to lay down a marker for later in the year.

The Derry team changes nothing. Kerry v Cork was always going to be important because of the rivalry and players playing for places. Our chances of going through to semi's were remote before Derry named any team, and we only have ourselves to blame for that one.
Any player having trouble to motivate himself for a Kerry Cork game, should think about playing another sport...like Cricket or someother sport where you don't get hurt!!! lol
