Sully - doesn't it all depend on which Kerry team shows up next week.... a couple of handy goals by Meath ... poor football by Kerry and we could be in trouble.... fans and team must not be complacent and they must must go for the kill from minute one..... Even a below par Kerry are better than Meath. If we do lose to Meath then we know that the Dublin game was a freak. I can not see us losing this semi under any circumstances. Meath should not beat us in a month of Sundays. Cork however is a totally different matter.

Keep ringing them and they tell you the email is coming soon yet its now only 6 days to the game and nothing up yet. The season ticket idea is great but their admin side leaves a lot to be desired.

If we produce like we did against Longford, Sligo and Antrim, we're goosed. Are we as good as we looked against Dublin?....unlikely, to be fair, that we can do that two days in a row. I'd like to think we could but...Meath showed enough in the last ten minutes against Mayo to worry me. People can talk all they like about Mayo folding etc but it wasn't as simple as that at all imho...Meath blew them away in that last ten minutes. We should win but everyone (outside of Cork), myself included, thought the same about Tyrone yesterday....We have a referee as equally inept as yesterdays....

The issues with Bannon will turn up the heat on bones which has to be good. He will have to think for once.

Am I the only person here who thinks the only debate for Sunday is what Kerry team show up?
Honestly, if Kerry turn up at 60% of the Dublin performance, what in Meath's armoury do they have that will cause us problems?

Personally I felt kerry will need to find another 30 to 40% improvement on their Dublin performance to close out an all-ireland final.
I'd be concerned if kerry dipped by 40% on what they showed v Dublin.

Kerry will need to improve for sure. Even if Meath are not living up to semi-final status we should and even more. I think Meath will give their all and will play this like the final. They won't hold back anything since they know to win Sam will be a long shot. This is their final....even if it costs them injuries they will still want to win this game. Meath will improve from their quarter final performance and give this their all. We should do too and more. Kerry will need to work towards a final whether we will this game or not since if we win it we have only 3 weeks until the final and we need to win that one. Kerry will need 40% improvement on the Dublin game and another 40% for the final.

I suppose its a few things really ASA.... Parking the Dublin game for the moment, Meath showed a lot more in the Mayo game than we had shown in our championship outings against Cork, Longford, Sligo or Antrim. Looking then at the Dublin game, we run the risk of assuming that we'll carry on where we left off there...it doesn't always happen. We're well aware of the fickleness of perceived wisdom...we were written off by all and sundry prior to the Dublin game...does one great performance mean that we can forget completely what went before?...We should win but we should have easily seen off Longford, Sligo and Antrim also. The arguments about mileage on the clock etc haven't gone away because of the Dublin match. We need to very focussed going into this game...being over-confident has rarely served us well.

We shouldn't underestimate them for sure. Even if we destroy them like Cork did Donegal it doesn't matter how they play, it mattters how much we can improve. We need to focus on winning this and have to look forward as well.

That's the question I suppose. What do Meath have that worries us? And screw hunger - I'm on about players, tactics etc.

Completley agree, if after the replay defeat in cork we were all told we'd end up in the All Ireland Semi against meath we'd have been jumping around with joy. Im not trying to be disrespectful but how many of the Meath Starting 15 would make the Kerry starting 15. We now have serious options on the bench as well, AOM, Tadgh and Kiearn if they start with the same line up. Cant see any other than a kerry win based on the facts that we have seen so far this season.

Kerrys biggest obstacle will be complacency - however with Jack involved and with Daragh having sights on a swansong battle with the langers - I think we'll be ok.

www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=116832O'Mahony doubtful for Meath showdown 24 August 2009 Kerry defender Aidan O'Mahony is a major doubt for next Sunday's All-Ireland football semi-final against Meath due to suspected appendicitis. The Rathmore clubman experienced abdominal pains over the weekend and would face a four-week layoff in the event of him having his appendix removed. That would also make him a big doubt for the All-Ireland final if the Kingdom progress to a meeting with Cork on September 20. Once an automatic choice on the Kerry team, O'Mahony has fallen out of favour in recent games, but did see action as a substitute in the quarter-final rout of Dublin. An asthmatic since childhood, he was cleared of any wrongdoing when he became the first GAA players to test positive for a banned substance after last year's All-Ireland final defeat to Tyrone. Meanwhile, Meath have reported no fresh injury worries after a weekend which saw some of their squad in club hurling action.

Limerick pushed Cork a lot harder that Tyrone did.
Meath overcame Limerick.
There is a line of form there and Colm O Rourke pointed this out last night.
Dublin collapsed when Kerry went 5 points up. Meath wont.
Stephen Bray is back.
I nailed my colours to the Meath mast in 2007 after watching the two games against Dublin. They took Cork for granted. They could have been in the 2007 All Ireland final.
They imploded under Colm coyle in 2008 after the farce against Wexford when he blew a 10 point lead towrds the end.
Wexford ended up in the semi final.
Shane O Rourke is a huge loss however but Stephen Brays brothers looks to be a real find.
There is a bloody minded doggedness about Meath that is admirable.
They expect to beat kerry. Mayo dont. Neither do Dublin.
I have been expecting the return of Meath at some point....... they were too good in 2007 to go off the boil that quickly.

Hope Aiden is ok, he has had a strange season this year, but I believe he still has that extra something within him, would be a shame to see him miss out....

The reality is this Cork team is improving all the time. For the Limerick match they were short Miskella O LEary and Lynch. I also thing they have got much faster and Croke Park really suits Kerrigan and Kelly.

A break from the game might be what ensures that he comes back as a dominant player next season. Events of last season will have taken their toll on the man.

Mickmack's comments about Meath reflect my own. They were very impressive in 2007 but were inexplicably poor against Cork .
I am seriously worried about next Sunday. That is based on a few factors. The principal factor is that I am unable to get Kerry's pre Dublin form out of my mind. They were of course superb against Dublin but can any thing approaching that level be reenacted. If we get a reprise of that form, then we are likely to win. However, Meath are very unlikely to be as accommodating as Dublin were. Their forwards are more natural, more direct and physically stronger. On the evidence of previous form, Cian Ward is likely to kick frees successfully from all distances and angles. How are we equipped in that department?
On paper our forwards should be too slick for their back line but expect some bruising tackles and God only knows how Mr. Kinnneavey will respond. Historically, he has not looked on us kindly.
Reflecting back to 2007, Meath are missing two wonderful players from that year- Darren Fay and Graham Geraghty. It is unlikely that their replacements are of a comparable standard.
In summary, this is a game about which we should not be complacent and talking about a putative game with Cork is an exercise in fantasy

Honestly, if Kerry turn up at 60% of the Dublin performance, what in Meath's armoury do they have that will cause us problems? I'm with you on this one Stacks. All due respect to Meath but I think we will have far too much for them unless our heads are not in the right place. And after the summer we've had and a number on and off the pitch who were involved in 2001 I think that risk is low. If there was a Meath player who could do some damage my view that player is Joe Sheridan. He looks to me like one who's got most of the tools to be a top class forward and in the Mayo game he looked like a man who was beginning to get to grips with them.

Admittedly Veteran, this is not a game for complacency,,,but can you honestly see this Kerry team being complacent after their recent poor showings??Im sure JOC has them well drilled.
I dont think so..
No doubt this is a game that can go either way and no better team than Meath to put it up to us,,,
But I cant see us slipping up here and being on the right side of a couple of points victory will do me.
I would love to see what your starting 15 would be ?? If you would please and reasons for same.
If you wouldnt mind.

I have spent the past hour watching the video of the Meath v Mayo game.
I didnt realise until now just how effective Joe Sheridan was.
He got 4 points from play.
He gave the footpass for the first goal for Bray. He set Bray up for the lead point towards the end.
He won an amount of breaking ball at midfield.
He wore 11 but was all over the place.
He is the most unnatural footballer I have seen in a long time but he is very effective.
Meath had scored 9 points by the 52nd minute.
They tacked on 5 or 6 playing great football.
Yet the lineball decision and the penalty turned the game in their favour.
Their half backs were good but their full back line struggled against the physically stronger Mayo full forward line.
Kerry bombarded Mayo in the 2006 final from the air in the first 20 minutes. A similar ploy for the first 10 minutes might well be worth considering against Meath..................
