I thought that both teams made a lot of mistakes and the quality of football was very average at times - that said Meath finished the game very stongly and some of their scores were sublime finishing out the game.
Once again Mayo bottled it - they led by 4 points halfway through the 2nd half and showed their brittle nauture in style as Meath came back at them. A few decisions went against them and the heads visibly dropped. They also had a 4 point lead early in the 1st half but couldn't capitalise on it.
Meath will pose us problems - they are direct with thier ball into a stong full forward line. This win is all the more impressive as they did it without their master in chief Stephen Bray.
That said Mayo should have had a much bigger score built up at half time - Some of Meath's play was chronic especially coming out of defence in the 1st half but often times went unpunished. Mayo's lack of ability to score came back to haunt them. This led to Meath growing grew in confidence and the ease they sliced through the Mayo defence in the 1st half was sometimes astonishing.
All in all it was a decent game. Mayo lost Kilcoyne and Aidan O Shea after going up 4 points. These boys were motoring very well and this was the ultimate turning point in the game. A few decisions were bizarre and seemed to go Meath's way at critical times. A line ball clearly a Mayo ball went the other way and resulted in a penalty.
I would be very confident that we can turn Meath over. A better team would have punished their mistakes today so Roll on the 30th!!!

A lot of people on this Forum have been wishing for a Meath victory, for revenge!!. Be careful what you wish for has never been more apt. The very least we can say about Meath is that their forward line is as good as any in the country. Add in Stephen Bray.
On witnessing Meath's victory today a little bit of the distress I experienced in 2001 returned. Apprehensive.

I don't expect that revenge will be the motivation of the players - 70 minutes from an All Ireland Final should be enough motivation???

Agree seaniebo, the team will be concentrating on whats in front of them not what is in the past...
Did anyone see a good camera angle on the mayo 'goal', thought myself the ball was over the line?

We were outclassed by Cork, lucky against Longford if only they took their chances, Sligo should have beaten us, as should have Antrim, and Dublin well we can't count that as a game as they didn't turn up. All in all not looking too good for us!

In 2007 Meath were a seriously good side and that side included Shane O Rourke and Stephen Bray.
They beat Tyrone.
Over confidence cost them in the semi final against Cork.
The battle of Parnell Park cost them in 2008....... 6 players were suspended.
Yet Meath were 10 points up with 10 minutes to go against Wexford when Colm Coyle decided to give the subs a run. Wexford got a run on them and caught them. Obviously things wernt right in the camp against Limerick in 2008.
In 2009, they have improved in the back door games as Kerry have.
Meath footballers do the fundamentals right........ all must win their own ball. They can take scores.
Beware.

The ball certainly seemed to cross the line from one camera angle but all other angles were not conclusive so I think the benefit of the doubt must be handed to the umpires.

This situation is made for the Meath psyche, they will absolutely realish the loaming prospect of this game.Nothing to lose everthing to gain,we are Meath,we know how to win such games.
Take nothing for granted here, kerrys preparation will have to be meticulous for this game.
Meath have a lot of high quality players that have come through the Colm O Rourke academy of football at St.Pats Navan winning three Hogan Cups.

Meath went in as serious underdogs against mayo today and it suited them down to the ground, as the underdogs tag suits them and the opposite is true of mayo the cant cope with the favourites tag, so again meath will go in as underdogs against us so we had better treat this match with the respect that it deserves. On todays performance meath are an improving team and have a lot of big strong players, their play was a bit predictable in the fact that the launched long high ball into the full forward line and in all fairness they won a lot of ball, so i think our full back line will be under a fierce amount of pressure the next day. The kicked some great points as well, but they slowed the ball down an awful lot when breaking out of defence which im sure we would make the most of. I think its going to be a close tight match, which i hope it is cause if meath fold like dublin did we would not no just exactly how far we have progressed and that is the last thing we need going into a final(if we get there). Does anyone know when tickets will go on sale by any chance? ??

Paddy Power doesn't seem to have been very impressed by Meath. Kerry are now outright favourites for AI having previously shared favouritism with Tyrone at 6/4 Kerry 11/10 Tyrone 13/8 Cork 4/1 Meath 12/1

One things for sure meath wont fall like Dublin fell. Meath are one of the few countys with no fear of us and im sure they'll be writin off before the game Brolly was at it today already. I might be getting ahead of myself but what a way it would be to win the All Ireland this year banishing the ghosts of 2001 and Tryone, i should have keep my mouth closed.

we will be wearing Blue, Meath will be wearing Green as in 2001 and 1986 the day 3 Meath players,McQuillan, Lyons and Harnon, went to decaputate Ger Power, missed Power and Power had the simple task of tapping the ballinto an empty net with McQuillan and Lyons laid out injured injured on the ground, the poor souls.

No nic, both teams have to wear the colours of their respective provinces when their is a clash of colours at All- Ireland series level.

Kerry wore white against Meath before in the championship, while they didn't wear blue in the 1980s against Offaly. Expect our guys to wear the navy jersey.

Of course Kerry will not take Meath for granted and will prepare meticulously. But here is my opinion on matters. Kerry are a far superior team than Meath. Complacency is one of the only things that wil undermine Kerry in this clash.
Meath are on a bit of a roll through the qualifiers and played direct football that eventually payed dividends against a ropey mayo back line. Just remember, Meath pumped a load of high ball in to the FF line to no avail until they started to get on top. Then it started to click for them.
Meath are a limited team and I expect Kerry to beat them comfortably, provided we dont take them for granted and play somewhere near like we did last Monday.
As regards the bookies odds, I would put Tyrone favourites with us and Cork joint second favourites. Meath are a distant fourth. They are not a good team
