I’d say they will find an All Star place for the Louth wing back Craig Lennon who scored 4-7 from play in the championship including goals v Dublin in the Leinster final and against Kerry. That is some scoring for a wing back. Lennon didn't get the Louth goal against Kerry, it was the number 2. He was quiet enough against Kerry and was taken off half way through second half. I don't remember him doing much in the Donegal quarter final either. I would be surprised if Lennon got an all star ahead of lads like Forker, McCambridge, Mogan, Ryan McHugh and Dylan McHugh. Louth will get an All Star so it’s going to be Craig Lennon or Sam Mulroy. 4-7 from play is some scoring for a wing back, Lennon got the goal in Leinster final v Dublin.

I would love for their to some sort of system where the all stars are nominated through the year so it might be more representative. For example, kerry had a shot at end of normal time to put Armagh out. Would they have received 11 all star nominations if that had gone over the bar even though the difference is a single performance? Also, am I right in saying that Barry McCambridge didn’t start a game until the quarter final? I don’t begrudge his nomination but there is a huge recency bias in the nominations. I’d have to check that. He didn’t start most, if not all, of the Ulster games anyway. I agree with the recency bias though, but that happens every year. Owen Mulligan did flip all until he scored that goal in 2005, and got an All star. DJ Carey's first game in 02 was the semi-final and he won an All-Star

We all see different things but through my eyes during the whole course of the league and championship our best and most consistent player by far was Paul Murphy then followed by Brian O Beaglaoich. The All stars are not picked fairly as its mainly based on the end of the championship.
Years ago it was based on the whole year including league. The biggest joke ever was 1998 when Brian Whelehan of Offaly got an All star at full forward.Offally put him in ff in 2nd half and he was superb scoring 1-5 but only played 25 mins there the whole year.A super hurler but that was wrong. Its like POTY is and should be judged over the whole year and mainly they get that one right.Last year before the final David Clifford was hot favourite for poty and his only close contender was James McCarthy (by commentators pundits and Paddpower). So the reality was the only player that could pip David was McCarthy.David had a quiet final but McCarthy was very poor so decision was simple. However many were shouting for Fenton after his final performance.Too late.Fenton is class but David was deserved POTY. This year David does nt deserve an All star and maybe Tony Brosnan deserves a nominatoon more than David. As I say Paul Murphy was our top man but was nt nominated but now we hope O Beaglaoich gets one but this year was a big year for backs.

Can someone please tell me how Dylan McHugh was not nominated for player of the year? He had a tremendous year!

Paul had a decent year but in my opinion Tom O'Sullivan & Brian O Beaglaoich both had much better years. A few man of the match performances between them. Tom always gets tasked marking the best forwards, kept Lachlan Murray scoreless who scored 5 points from play the week before, he was moved onto Shane McGuigan then and did the same. Turbit who was in POTY form had a quiet semi also. Disappointing for Tony, he deserved the nod. Kicked some fine scores & defended well. He's carried the form into Kerry championship. Some player!

For a lot of moryah pundits, once the trophy is lifted it's like everything that happened prior to this is deleted from memory. The nomination selection process is a joke, and I assume heavily influenced by sponsors.

Wide from the top of the D, Unopposed - All star nomination!! (PwC employee)
Soupy Campbell - a massive force off the bench for Armagh all year, big contributing factor for his team's success. - No nomination!!
It's a joke of a thing. Just a night out for the execs. That's all

DJ Carey's first game in 02 was the semi-final and he won an All-Star John Lahey won one in the 90s without even playing a championship game I think. That's mad. I guess pre-back door a lot of players won All-Stars having played only one Championship game. They say there's no such thing as natural talent, it's 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration, but Leahy took up hurling at 14 and was playing in a senior All-Ireland Final at aged 18. You must have natural talent to have that that sort of exponential improvement

It's often forgotten he played football with Tipp as well. Mullinahone were historically a football rather than hurling club.

Normally it's 50% genetics and 50% is the other factors like training, coaching, lifestyle, culture etc... The Gooch practiced loads as a child and grew up in an estate where there was a game on every day for all ages. The O'Sheas had the genetics but practised loads in their spare time. You need both really. All the training in the world wouldn't make me an intercounty footballer. If the Gooch has grown up in the countryside in Leitrim, nobody would've heard of him. Some people obviously need less training as their genetics are so good. I bet Paul McGrath would've been brilliant at any sport he tried.

I listened to a good interview with sean og recently enough and he said they got a bit of rough treatment when they first arrived different skin colour in a tough part of cork city you can imagine. So he trained like 24/7 so he could fit in. Also he grew up in a place steeped in hurling

Very different world in the pre-back door era which changed in 1997 (I think!) for hurling and 2001 for football. Players played far fewer games and the League was run on the academic year basis - Autumn to Spring.
I don't know what year they changed the rule about players being disqualified from selection if they were sent off during the year.

Where did Sean Og O’Hailpin’s hurling genes come from? He had top class athletic genetics and so did his brothers. I'm sure they would have excelled at most sports but they happened to choose hurling.

Who wins players of the year? Paul Conroy for me. 34/35 years of age, incredible to put in that level of performances after a horrific injury 4/5 years ago.

All bar one are first time winners. Craig Lennon imo seems like some sort of token thing. In reality what did Louth really do this year?

How Niall Morgan got 1 I'll never know, Tyrone lost in the Preliminary Quarter-finals and I didn't think Morgan had a particularly strong Championship. Brian O Beaglaoich especially & Tom Sullivan possibly hard done by.

No quibble with any selections (although I might have found a spot for Mulroy), but as a 15... worst All Star team ever?!
