It was a big factor when the game was in the melting pot. I'm glad he referenced it. Of course he referenced it, deflects from his team coming up short.

I must say as an outsider I really admire Kerry supporters lack of excuses and blaming officials. I was away at a club championship game today so I could only see bits of the Kerry game on my phone, but I saw the last few minutes and a throw in being given from a Kerry kickout which I didn't understand and it led to an Armagh point, then after Kerry levelled it looked like a player was clearly fouled in the last attack around the 20m line which would have been an easy free to win the game. I have to say my thoughts as a Kerry supporter watching were that Gough had screwed Kerry. For balance he did give a throw in during ET for an Armagh kick out which led to a Kerry point but I have to say I'd find it extremely hard to forgive those 2 crucial decisions at the end of normal time. Armagh are the fittest team in the country and ET was always going to favour them. Unfortunately for David, who I admire (he is probably one of the few reasons I continue to watch modern football tbh) he had a poor season by his incredible standards. From what I managed to see in ET Kerry dropping the ball short was a real killer. It's really poor, but to be fair the athleticism required nowadays is remarkable and players are obviously out on their feet. Killian Burke was excellent again and is probably the biggest positive for Kerry this year. The ref David Gough lets a lot of the rough and tumble stuff go but is strict on other aspects like off the ball stuff. I think he just wants to let the game flow. Overall we can't complain about the ref. Kerry led for almost the entire game. For large stretches we were leading by 3/4/5 points. Even after conceding the goal we went 2 points up. It was a strange game. I remember thinking we'd win comfortably by 7 or 8 points whilst watching it. We were up 4 points in the second half and had two goal chances. I think the talk of getting rid of jack and rebuilding the squad are shortsighted. But at the same time it's another all Ireland we've left behind.

Reflects my sentiments entirely during the game - Kerry were comfortable despite playing in 2nd gear for large swathes of the game. It was a game they contrived to lose and I suspect they will be sick over it. Fair play to Armagh and good luck to them but Kerry beat themselves today and with a bit to spare.....

I think Tony Brosnan will take Paul Geaneys position and Cillian Burke will start half forward. It was a frustrating game but last year hurt much more. We probably need to work on more attacking set plays. Armagh had a few which Eamon Fitzmaurice highlighted during the game. Their forwards would congregate in a spine around the D which left space inn the corners for the advanced mark.

One thing I must note guys is since Jack came in, this has how it has panned out: 2022 - Champions 2023 - Beaten Finalists 2024 - Beaten Semi Finalists So in any mans language that shows we are going backwards. I always felt that a lot of this team was built under Peter Keane and Kerry were playing some superb attacking football under Keane without winning All Irelands. Jack added that bit of defensive solidarity when he came in that got us over the line in 2022. But it seems now to me its gone too much down the side of defensive football and it doesn't suit the footballers we have and it seems to be costing us at the end. So basically what I'm trying to say is..is this team going places with Jack or is it time for a change? It'd be interesting to hear the opinions on this. A change. Too defensive, safe, it cripples creativity, courage at the later Sam Changes. Understand strategy tactics but comes a time when as Mick O Dwyer used to say ‘let them worry about us not the other way’

I have an uneasy feeling being so accepting of the defeat and so accepting that Armagh are simply a better squad.
I think I would have preferred somehow believing in this team, preferred having been excited by this team... and then being crushed in disappointment about what could or should have been.
Despite a goal chance or two, Kerry found it so difficult to find scores yesterday that there was only a sliver of belief in ET.
The only thing I am looking forward to next year is a rejuvenated David Clifford.

Maybe it is due to a tunnel vision of sorts... and the only true contentment in Kerry football is winning the All-Ireland... but has there been a lack of joy, fun, and enjoyment in the Kerry players this year? I feel there has been.
Unfortunately I am pointing a finger at the management team for this... but then again the great 2000s team played the game in a fairly serious tone.
I guess it is a missing exuberance that I should be talking about.

I know club championships around the corner but take as much break before and after as needed.

I am not sure any team play with exuberance and joy anymore. Every team is playing a highly structured way.
It will take some rule changes for this to change.

I've friends in Armagh and have spent time there and I can guarantee you that their GAA population is less than ours. But those that are GAA are real gaels. I would imagine so, although we seem to have gained a few more fans lately, as there were quite a few Armagh flags flying on top of a number of bonfires. I saw a unionist on Twitter with GB flag in handle and he was down shouting for Armagh after a trip to the Boyne! He said that it was the weekend of the Twelfth was a good omen for Armagh!

No doubt Armagh were the fitter, stronger side in the latter stages. At the same time, it shouldn't have mattered. I thought we should have been further ahead at HT but Gough kept Armagh in it with some very dubious frees. Should have finished them off in the third quarter but we left at least 2-4 behind and when Tom put that 2nd goal chance wide, you knew that was the game.

Peter Keane would never have won an all Ireland. Jack will be there in 2025. His term is up then. He is entitled to see it out for all he has achieved but a fresh voice in the back room team might be no harm. Our attack malfunctioned today like in last years final and that needs to be looked at. Another year of him playing his favourites, not blooding players. We'll see Geaney starting and Clifford playing deep again. Who are these great players out there who weren’t picked that Jack was picking ‘favourites’ over? The talk to this team needing a rebuild in an earlier post is nonsense. If you had to survey the whole county at the start of the year to what would be the best Kerry team, I guarantee people would have picked at least 12 of the same starters that started yesterday. Graham’s injury and Brosnan’s adaptability to play WF the only real difference. Jack will 100% serve out the last year of his term. Tomas has 1 more year with the 20s where many of this year’s team will be underage again next year. Jack will either go out on a high next year with an All-Ireland or lose, either way, I’d expect Tomas to be the manager in 2026. No1 grabbing the opportunity in the whole league (Burke aside) was the real issue. Kerry used more players than most but barely anyone new stood up. Derry’s collapse this year really does show that the actual result of the league is pretty much irrelevant. You need people to come in and step up to the plate. That will be the task for the fringe players or players outside the panel. Senior and Intermediate club championship starts in less than two weeks. Shop window opens for all these players again

I wonder will a return of Eamonn Fitzmaurice be raised as an option next year or the year after?

Congrats to Armagh, they deserved the win in extra time.
From our point of view, we played some good football in the first half and sporadically after that, by moving the ball quickly and running at pace. Unfortunately after half time, a slower build up became the norm, which made it difficult to get scores.
A hard one to take, but the missed goal chance and Armagh's goal turned the game in their favour. We struggled with Stefan Campbell when he came on.
A word on Paudie Clifford and Cillian Burke, they both really tried to take the game to Armagh when the game was in the melting pot.
A few tweaks of the team and a potential refresh of the management team and we'll go again next year. Remember how 2021 turned into 2022.

Armagh were happy to take a punt on the guy with no previous IC coaching experience. Brave move on their part but Worked out well for them.

However I bet the management of Armagh picked the 15 such is our predictablility. This makes it easier to plan for. Not naming names but I could name 3 on teamsheet that are very fortunate to start. Secondly you say Kerry used more players than most however I'm at a loss who these were. Getting 10/20 minutes here or there is not fair on any lad trying to put his hand up. Even when they do (Burke) your still not considered by this management team. Thirdly jack laid blame this loss on a.goal miss b. Cheap goal conceaded and c. Lack of Kerry support, instead of taking ownership and saying we got selection and tactics (never mind conditioning) totally wrong. Deflection tactics if ever I heard. Finally these players are a credit to there clubs and families and didn't go out to lose or play poorly. The conductor of the orchestra needs to take responsibility and move aside for someone who can get a proper tune from the potential we have in this county.

At the game, I was surrounded by Armagh fans, most Kerry fans would have been. Reflecting what I said last evening, Kerry were that comfortable for 3/4 of the game, Armagh fans were both muted and almost accepting that they were second best on the day up to the gimme goal. Then the stadium came alive.
Three big factors for me were the following: - Throughout the first 45 minutes two players in particular were losing possession REPEATEDLY with poor execution and/or decisions. Not making a change screamed this was ACCEPTABLE. Such was the relative comfort of proceedings at the time, maybe the sideline adopted a more accommodating stance to this. It was very costly as thst was the time to drive home the advantage. - Too many players took ball into tackle yesterday and we had a number of small or light players who got robbedd of ball and confidence with that. It happened repeatedly and worse at the ground you could see it before it happened. Again, I think ot was so comfortable early doors it must have seeped into players heads that we could walk through them. We couldn't and didn't. - Finally, call it energy, exuberance or enjoyment, Kerry players looked bereft of the 3 E's throughout proceedings. While not helped by a paltry Kerry turnout, it may be thst last years defeat set this crew back into a deep depression and they look like a very constrained and joyless outfit.
Roll on 2025.

Armagh absolutely deserved their win and I hope they go on to win it out. We failed to take our chances when the game was there for us ( fear has become part of our game unfortunately). I thought Jack & Co made the correct substitutions immediately after our goal but unfortunately, they didn’t really work on the day. Armagh very impressive even if it took a goal which Shane Ryan would prevent 99 times out of 100 but unfortunately, this was that 100th occasion.
Jack will and should be back again next year. Some of the comments about him on here are a joke but that’s folk I guess.
Serious questions do need to be asked about our fitness levels though. In 2021, we had lots of guys going down with cramp in ET ( or even prior to it) against Tyrone. Exactly the same if not worse yesterday. Big questions there in my opinion.
Best of luck now to Armagh. Genuinely great supporters and I’ve always found that to be honest. Hopefully, they’ll bring home their second Sam Maguire by the end of July.

Just a few short points 1 Kerry were the better team for 3/4 of normal time 2 Can’t win games missing scores from edge of square 3 Had plenty of chances 4 Management picked the best team available . Couldn’t do any more . Can’t blame management for all the wides 5 Kerry are footballers that are athletic, Armagh are athletes that play football 6 only for. a fluke goal we’d have won 7 players never gave up. Credit where it’s due Next year. 🏐🏐🏐

Moynihan, Geaney and honestly can’t think of who else you’d be talking about. Murphy is a usual target but he’s been up there with Kerry’s best players this year. Not one person called for Burke to start given how he impacted off the bench against Derry. Everyone felt that his best impact would be felt off the bench. Who are you starting instead of Geaney? Spillane has shown that off the bench is where he does his best work. No other forward showed anything to play instead of Geaney.

I expected Kerry to win and was very confident at half time. However, Armagh won chiefly because overall they were the more positive team . A victory for positivity. That is how it should be. Congratulations to them.
One of the most alarming factors was how we tired in the latter stages of the game and in extra time. There is no excuse for that.
Another example of how thin the line is between the hero and the villain was illustrated yesterday . Kerry supporters after the match were very critical of Shane Ryan , in reference to his catastrophic blunder for the goal . It is conceivable we would have won the match had that incident not occurred . In that scenario, Shane would have been lauded as a hero for his superlative one handed save in the first half. Inches indeed.
I have flown through some of the posts and and I noticed one where the contributor said, I paraphrase , Sean O’Shea went hiding. No genuine Kerry supporters would ever use such a pejorative expression about a Kerry hero.
I am off on a holiday for a week. Plenty of time later in the year to pick over the corpse!

The Armagh goal was lucky as it was a mi* shot for a point but Shane Ryan's weakness is under a high hanging ball and there are plenty of examples over the years. He is excellent in other areas apart from maybe a fast and long pinged kick out over the press. He made a great save in the first half. I thought he could have come out a bit more to help with attacks like the Armagh keeper did. Hopefully the new rules stop all the fly keeper crap though.
Tom Sullivans lack of a right foot cost us 2 goals. How many times have we seen the Dublin team finish those types of chances. We have been messing up so many goal chances for too long now. The first match in 2019 final springs to mind.
I expect to see the end for SOB, PM and PG. Paul really isn't a threat anymore and he spends most of his time running diagonally away from goal and just recycling. He have high standards for inside forwards but we don't seem to have other options. Killian Spillane has never pushed on and probably never will do more than be an inconsistent sub option.

It’s time to turn to youth and try to bring through 4 or 5 in the 19-23 bracket. We can’t just continue trying with the same team that has come up short the last 2 years. I’ll be very disappointed if Jack stays on, his plan is always to play to a certain safe level and hope it’s enough which it isn’t. He is not a manager to identify players with potential and bring them on.

With regards to fitness levels and cramping, is it possible that other teams view this as a weakness and try to outrun us? It's difficult to see on TV so maybe someone watching live might notice it. I remember in Aidan O'Mahony's book he said in some game against Cork his opponent tried to tire him out and then a sub came on and tried to do the same. I suspect they knew about his asthma and tried to target him.

I don't have the heart yet to read all the comments, maybe in a few days.
My head and heart ache from sorrow and too much brandy.
But a few things need to be said:
We've thrown away another year that we had all the potential to win.
That's now the fifth time since 2019.
No energy, no fight and worse, no hunger or fire in the belly when it mattered in the second half.
Out on our feet already by the 70 minute and players dropping like flies, unforgivable to seemingky have such a lack of fitness compared to a division 2 side.
David looked to be carrying a knock for a lot of the second half/extra time - should he have been taken off.
